Dr Matute and the rest of the staff at Bond Vet UES are the best! I had to say goodbye to my nearly 18 year old cat today and they made everything so easy and were so so caring throughout the process. They have a nice room that is very comforting and allowed me to spend as much time as I wanted with him, before and after. They answered every question, explained everything very well and made sure I understood considering the situation. I'm so glad they were available for me today, especially since it is a holiday weekend. They made me and my boy comfortable at a sad time. Thank you Dr Matute and team that were there today!!

The receptionist sucks. So rude. She is y knowledgeable and dismissive, most likely because she is y knowledgeable.

*PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE BOOKING AN APPOINTMENT HERE* To start, I have been with Bond for over a year now (I frequent UES and Chelsea locations). I'm finally writing this review as sort of a last straw. The first bad experience I had, the doctor gave my dog the wrong dosage for her medication (shes a 6 pound toy poodle, and they gave her the dosage of a 25 pound dog.) I was really understanding of that mistake as I know things happen. But recently, my dog was rushed to Bond Vet UES as she was pooping blood and throwing up. I ALWAYS reiterate on the phone before any appointment that my dog "HAS A SEVERE CHICKEN ALLERGY." I told this to the nurse and the doctor. With that said, I found out 2 days later after the appointment that *Dr. Mutate* had PRESCRIBED MY DOG MEDICATION WITH CHICKEN IN IT. After I had repeatedly said that she has a chicken allergy. The only reason I noticed is because my roommate's dog has been taking the same medication and she pointed out to me that it had chicken in it. Thank god I noticed because if I hadn't called, Bond Vet would not have known and my dog would've been hospitalized. I spoke to Dr. Mutate yesterday, who did apologize but just kept making excuses saying she "didn't know the medication could be chicken". Which honestly, lame. Absolutely unacceptable to let that slip. I totally understand mistakes are made, but this is something that should NEVER happen. Again, the doctor's name was Dr. Mutate. The scary part is, if i never called to say anything, Dr. Mutate wouldn't have caught it and I would be sitting here paying thousands of dollars $$$ in hospital bills for my dog. Needless to say, my dog has been throwing up and having allergic reactions due to Bond Vet's malpractice and ignorance. Her eyes are swollen shut, and still vomiting 3 days later. She's very lethargic, and I'd argue her symptoms are worse because of the chicken ingestion. I called the practice to get a refund on the whole appointment, which they FINALLY gave me. (Shouldn't this be the first thing they offered? Why did I have to fight for a reimbursement?) I spoke to the UES clinic manager, Jante (?) today as well, who honestly handled the call so poorly that it was almost laughable. She had really nothing to say, making many excuses like "oh sorry, we usually only have the vanilla flavor in stock and the doctor didnt know it was chicken." Haha. All she really said on the phone was "Yeah...sorry." I wish that an apology could fix the situation. Too bad my dog is currently not eating and her symptoms have only worsened. If there was a change in medication stock, shouldn't the doctor be aware of this??? I am just beyond shocked and disappointed. The first two pictures are my dog's eyes post medication, and the last picture is her right now, not eating, lethargic, and throwing up. Again, really disappointed in Dr. Mutate, Jante the clinic manager, and the rest of the Bon team.

They were clear, communicative, and Dr. Macri ensured I fully understood what was happening with my little friend and what next steps were. A week later, Gomez is back to normal. In fact, Dr. Joseph Tsang (Vesper's surgeon) & the support chat reps were so obviously negligent that SD offered to reimburse us in full for our out-of-pocket medical expenses related to Vesper's case...IF we would sign an NDA agreeing not to publicly share our story. In good conscience, we turned down their settlement offer. If we can prevent even one other dog from suffering unnecessarily the way that ours did, it's worth it to us. In the first few days post-surgery, Vesper was leaking fluid from his incisions, violently shaking, & unable to move on his own. We repeatedly sent messages, photos & videos of Vesper's condition to SD's support chat. They told us his symptoms were normal & no action needed to be taken. After 3 days, Vesper's abdominal wound completely split open. We notified SD that we were headed to the E.R. & brought our dog to VEG Chelsea. Vesper was admitted overnight for intravenous antibiotics & an emergency surgery to clean out his infected wound. The E.R. doc noted on Vesper's records that his other surgical incision showed signs of a potential infection, but Vesper had already gone through so much trauma that she didn't want to cut him open at an additional location. His E.R. records were sent to SD that day, but no one followed up. After the E.R., we scheduled a follow-up appt at SDG. His condition had not improved. He was shaking, unable to stand up, & had a dark red swollen bulge on his lower abdomen the size of a golf ball. Dr. Tsang took Vesper into a separate room to examine him & change his bandages, then brought him back in & told us he looked like he was healing fine. He was so clearly NOT fine, but Dr. Tsang was so self-assured that we let our concerns be silenced. Within 1 hour of returning home, we examined his incisions ourselves & were extremely concerned by the appearance. We messaged the chat with photos & videos & asked them to relay to Dr. Tsang. He replied that it was "just some post-op swelling" & suggested alternating hot & cold compresses. From this point on, we never heard from anyone at Small Door ever again. 18 hours later, we were rushing Vesper to the E.R. again. The swelling was worse & he was visibly suffering. We notified the chat, but never got a reply. When we got to VEG, the E.R. doctor said Vesper's case had become too serious for them to take on (it's a excellent E.R., but small), so they referred us to a specialized vet E.R. for more serious/complex cases (Schwarzman AMC - also excellent). Vesper was admitted there overnight for a 2nd emergency surgery. They told us that it was a good thing we had brought Vesper in when we did because his infection was spreading & he was becoming septic. Later that day, Vesper's medical records were sent from the E.R. to SD. No one ever followed up. Our dog was so sick that we ran 24-hour shifts of care for several weeks. For the next 3 months, we were dealing with the aftermath (an abdominal drain, infected stitches, etc.) & countless doctor's appointments as he gradually healed. Everyone is licensed to make mistakes, but it is how we respond to those mistakes that matters. Neither Dr. Tsang nor anyone at Small Door ever reached out to show any accountability for their repeated failures to provide reliable medical care for our dog. This speaks volumes. Small Door is a VC-backed veterinary sweatshop w a million-dollar marketing budget that enables them to masquerade as the sweet, caring vet-next-door. They may have a nice waiting room, but that has no relation to their quality of care. As a company, they lack adequate processes & training to provide quality veterinary care. I would like to give a shoutout to Dr. Hauser at VEG Chelsea & the incredible team at Schwarzman for saving our amazing little buddy's life & giving him the level of care that he should have had from the start. We now are very happily at Greenwich Village Animal Hospital.

Called this place after doing an extensive search for a decently rated pet ER (not many around me). I am so thankful there is at least one, and they're open 'round the clock. Was placed in an examination room and was seen fairly quickly by a tech for vitals, followed by the vet (I swear I tried so hard to remember her name to give her a personal shout out but stress took away my memory). She was awesome. Thorough and caring. While nothing appeared to be an evident emergency, my cat was clearly suffering from something hurting him. Recommended course of action seemed slightly excessive, but this vet truly stepped up to help me out. I consented to an xray, which indicated constipation. Treatment included sub-q hydration, anti-nausea medication, and a laxative. Cat had never been poked and prodded so much in his life. But he was such a good boy, and thankfully never bit or scratched- just growled and hissed. I would have too, little buddy!! I truly, sincerely appreciate knowing my boy doesn't have any bowel obstruction or anything worse. Great relief that we'll manage with the laxative and hopefully he'll be good as new. Thank you to the Vet Tech and the assistant who were both so helpful and supportive (and whose names I also forgot). Great team. ***WARNING - DO NOT GO HERE WITH ANY EMERGENCIES***…read moreIncompetent, apathetic, PE-owned ER that will actually significantly increase the odds your pet dies. My 3-month-old cockapoo ate a thin thong. We were at VEG Flatiron within 10 minutes of ingestion. Only one other animal was in the facility, stable and being monitored. We were the only active case. What should have been a routine emetic-then-scope visit became a six-hour ordeal across two VEG locations. It took roughly an hour to get the first dose of apomorphine. Staff were audibly socializing and gossiping about parties rather than working. We paid upfront. When the first emetic failed, we waited another 40 minutes for a second dose, not for any clinical reason, just because nobody was prioritizing the case. When emesis failed, the vet recommended endoscopic retrieval. We agreed immediately and paid $6,000 upfront. We then waited over an hour to begin. When I asked about the delay, staff were socializing and the vet was on his phone. They were "waiting for someone to come help." When they finally induced anesthesia on a 3-month-old puppy and attempted the scope, the endoscope did not work. They kept him under while calling the manufacturer's support line on speakerphone in front of us, where the agent's first question was, verbatim: "Have you tried making sure the machine was on? That was the issue last time." That level of incompetence is truly hard to believe. They re-dosed anesthesia three times troubleshooting equipment that had failed before and that nobody had checked. They gave up and transferred us to VEG UES, promising the scope there was prepped and ready (It wasn't). They offered to cover the Uber (They didn't). At UES, the nurse re-weighed him and re-took his temperature, procedures just performed an hour earlier. We waited over another hour. When I asked the receiving vet whether VEG Flatiron had transferred his anesthesia drug history, critical information for safely re-inducing a puppy who had already been under that night, the answer was no. Nothing had been transferred between two locations of the same company on the same EMR. The vet said she would "get those records." After nearly two hours with a catheter still in my puppy's arm, I went to ask for an ETA. A nurse was rude to me. It was clear my asking the question is what prompted them to actually start prepping. They had not been working on it. When they finally induced him and started the scope, the second endoscope also did not work. The vet asked her tech if he had checked the machine beforehand. He said yes. He had not. Here is what saved my dog: the attending vet at VEG UES is genuinely skilled. She performed the retrieval without insufflation, improvising around equipment her team failed to verify, and got the underwear out because it was bright red and still in the stomach. She is the only competent person in this story. After retrieval, while my puppy was still under anesthesia, the team continued troubleshooting the broken scope, testing equipment on my dog's anesthesia time. Then their computer crashed. After ten minutes of watching them reboot their app while my puppy remained under, I told them to stop. We never got a complete gastric examination because insufflation never worked. We accepted that risk because it was lower than letting them keep him under any longer. My puppy is fine. This review is not about a bad outcome. It is about the fact that the outcome was almost catastrophic, and would have been if the foreign body had migrated past the pylorus during one of the many unjustified delays, at which point we would have been looking at emergency surgery on a 3-month-old with materially higher mortality risk. The pattern across both locations: two broken endoscopes in the same chain on the same night. Equipment not verified before induction of anesthesia, twice. No transfer of anesthesia records between sister locations. Staff socializing and gossiping about parties while a critical case waited. Three rounds of induction agents on a 3-month-old puppy for a procedure that was never properly completed. $6,000 collected upfront for a service that was never fully delivered. This is not bad luck. It is structural and intentional. VEG is a private-equity-owned chain selling consumer-friendly branding - but under the surface is hiring too few of the cheapest, most apathetic staff, and clearly not maintaining their equipment. This is Private Equity 101. Cut costs, raise prices, shove it down the consumer's throat. The positive reviews here are from people who came in with simple (often non ER) cases any clinic could handle. DO NOT GAMBLE WITH A REAL EMERGENCY. This is not my final action with this company, but I am warning anyone and everyone I can with an animal, to never go to this ER. They don't care and they will significantly increase the odds that your pet dies. We just got lucky.
