The platter included oysters, scallops, hamachi, tuna, sockeye salmon, prawns, prawn heads, and squid. Surprisingly the squid was really good, since I am not normally a squid sashimi person, but it was so tender. The oysters were creamy, and the scallops were nice and sweet. The oshi was supposed to come with truffle, but I couldn't taste any. Other than that it was very tasty.

When I got in, I got seated right away despite it being lunch time. Food was alright. The chirashi don also included a pile of kelp noodles that were not seasoned. The eating experience would have been better without it. Review Template ===…read more1. VERDICT/VALUE Is the hype real? It is...if you're looking for a place to get takeout sushi that's average to decent along with other Japanese condiments candies and groceries. === 2. FOOD The takeout sushi is all refrigerated. So it's tough to say that hot items (like don bowls) taste good when they're cold, but at least the items that are supposed to be cold taste decent. - Shrimp California Roll: Nice twist on the standard! - Mabo Tofu Don: it's cold, it's congealed, salty sauce chunks; no thanks. - Sashimi Combo: decent! - Hawaiian Poke: haha, coming from Hawaii it's certainly not, but it's fine if you eat it with rice. - Ebi Tempura Don: it's cold, tempura mushy - pass. === 3. SERVICE Apart from the fact the kitchen staff could not tell me how they make the poke (perhaps it's made elsewhere? A bit of a concern...) all staff were nice, professional and able to speak English and Japanese. === 4. ENVIRONMENT Think corner store with a refrigerated section that offers packaged sushi to go. If you've been to smaller towns in Japan, you'll feel right at home. Its cozy narrow aisles stocked with all assortments of imported Japanese items are complemented by warm greetings from all of the staff. It'd be best to leave your wheelchairs and baby strollers outside where possible; the eight or so parking spots are often full but not needing a lot of waiting time given the frequent in-and-out of the takeout clientele.

FOOD Salmon Sashimi ($17) 8 pieces of soft buttery Atlantic salmon - yum! Bento B ($20+$3 for salmon) Great option and perhaps best in town: healthy dose of cooked veggies atop a bed of rice, capped with your choice of teriyaki beef, chicken, or salmon (which is $3 more). All that comes with a couple of pieces of seasonal fruit (a slice of orange and large slice of cantaloupe today), a choice of seaweed salad or green salad (with Japanese dressing on the side) and 5 pieces of dynamite roll, and one of each of salmon and tuna nigiri along with a miso soup. The salmon was cooked well - still tender, soft and tasty - but I wish the piece was larger! California Roll ($8) Eight pieces of Cali roll done well! Futomaki Roll ($7 for 5 pieces) Oft overlooked, but quite a relish set - yum! === 3. SERVICE I called ahead to place the pickup order; service was pleasant, the food was prepared in less than the 20 mins quoted and service was great indoors also. === 4. ENVIRONMENT It's not large inside the cozy restaurant just off of Oak bay Avenue; you could likely fit a group of 8 inside but will want to stick with a group of 2 or 4 most of the time. It's bright, clean, and pleasant with a good amount of space between tables for privacy and comfort. Wheelchairs and baby strollers would not have an issue here. Parking is interesting: primarily street oriented!
