Ambiance: Nice, clean, welcoming. Pretty busy at 2:30pm on Sunday. Employees (younger gal and guy) were meh as customer service went. The gal cashier was unsure if anything with sesame or nuts. She asked the guy and he confirmed none used. NOTE: Peanut allergy people, since peanuts are legumes, they do use peas. Peas are listed. It was end of day when I got my order, and I would have thought perhaps they might want to offer options. I guess when it's a Too Good To Go app order, they don't think they need to ask. I did also inquire about spiciness. I was told no. Wrong. The cauliflower with peas SPICY hot. The chickpea thingy not as spicy. Disliked it all. Actually, my "tastebud dislike" matched the "odor dislike." I won't be returning. BTW, the location had a number of people in there eating and others ordering. So, they were not lacking for customers. This was all, as always, my experience. I always encourage you to try, maybe you will like it?

Review Visit: November 26th, 2018 Bombay Wraps was... the bomb. A final stop on my post-blizzard trip to Chicago. After grabbing dessert and a coffee at Stan's Donuts, I walked with said coffee to Bombay for some real food for the first time on this day. While scouring my GPS for a place to eat at Stan's, I saw Bombay Wraps. On a cold day, a hot meal sounded wonderful. Of all the places detailed in this blog, there hasn't been an Indian place until know. It took about 10 minutes to walk there from Stan's, due to the traffic and the amount of people out and about. Once I got there, I was surprised to see it mostly empty during lunch time. Maybe I had just missed the rush. Oh well, all the easier for me to order. The menu was kind of foreign to me. I knew quite a few of the terms, but that doesn't mean I knew how they tasted. A few minutes passed of looking over the menu before I had to decide between the chicken tikka and chicken reshmi. In the end, I picked the chicken tikka. The lady cooking it asked if I wanted it spicy. I quickly said "yes" before she could finish her question. The way they make it is almost like subway. They have all the ingredients out and make it as you walk towards the cashier. I was given my food before I could get my change from paying. I grabbed a seat at one of the stools that was along the front wall, so I could look out of the store front as I ate. I noticed my wrap was smaller than I expected but that was fine as I had most of a massive donut a few minutes before. As I tried to pick up this soaking and messy wrap, trepidation set in. I was about to taste my first Indian cuisine and I was nervous. Wrap in mouth, I take my first bite... and am pleasant surprised by how delicious it was. Once I finish the first bite, the spicy kicked in and I took my first sip of the coffee I brought with me. It did nothing to settle the slight burn that was setting in. Wow. I took my time eating the wrap as I was trying to enjoy all the new flavors and tastes I was experiencing. It was delightful. Sadly, the wrap was a lot smaller than I expected it to be. For $5 and change, I was expecting a bit more to the wrap but the quality of what I got couldn't be beat. Each bite was filled full of flavor and a spicy kick that couldn't be beat. Alas, this was my last stop before I resumed some family duties. I was in a hurry to get back to where I needed to be that I forgot to snap a good photo of the inside. It was a bit sparse when it came to decorations but there was plenty of room to handle a lunch/dinner rush. This may have been my first Indian cuisine sampling but I doubt it will be my last.

    Bombay Eats catering!

We catered Bombay Eats for our non profit board meeting and were thoroughly happy with the experience! We ordered a bunch of wraps (chicken, beef, veggie, paneer), samosas and salad and the food was a major hit. The catering process was super smooth, the food showed up on time with utensils, condiments etc. Huge thanks to Ali, Garrett, Freddy and team for coming through - love the ownership, staff and food!

Wow - fast casual, very inexpensive, and delicious Indian style food! We got the chicken tikka wrap, messy samosa, and messy potato chips. They taste very rich but not too oily or salty, which is my preference. The chicken tikka wrap is fairly flavorful, just a bit messily presented which is okay - can't really complain for $6.49 for a sizable amount of food. The chicken is just a bit dry but they give a lot of chicken - definitely more of a quantity over quality type of place. The messy samosa is very good - slightly spicy and super flavorful, and the chickpeas fill you up. The messy potato chips is topped with chicken tikka which is a weird combination but it is a satisfying appetizer. Food came out fairly quick, and you seat your serve and get your own utensils, napkins, and water. Perfect for a quick meal especially in a busy work day!

Really enjoyed the samosa wrap made with roti. The roti itself was really good and the samosa filling was delicious. I also tried the channa masala, which was good, but I'm not sure I would get it again. Fun way to make Indian food fast-casual.

Bombay eats is a great spot for a quick lunch in downtown! The chickpea chana salad and samosa salad bowls are actually quite filling, since they both come with chickpeas. The samosa salad bowl is one of my favorites, the crushed up samosas are similar to croutons and you get to choose the type of chutney/dressing on top. The dressing is super flavorful and not too spicy. I also like to get the paratha wrap with another paratha on the side. The wraps are the most economical of the options. The service is similar to Chipotle where they put the dish together in front of you, and I've never encountered a huge line even during lunch rush. I like that there are always a ton of vegetables/legumes in each dish.

This is a fast-food style eatery offering delicious Indian sandwiches and wraps. They also have bowls and several sides. I had previously ordered online a few times and always liked the taste. Stopped by for a quick bite and again loved it! We ordered chickpea chana and chicken tikka sandwich rolls and a Samosa sandwich wrap - all were super tasty. They also ask for spice level - we did medium and it was perfect. Would definitely like to try other options on the menu.

Loved all the three wraps we tried: Potato Cauliflower, Samosa and Chickpea Chana. Definitely must stop for a quick bite when in the Magnificent Mile area.

No notes. The sandwich had candied bacon on it with this perfect sweet flavor, and it normally comes with honey Dijon--but I don't do Dijon, so I swapped it for this garlic sauce ‍ And when I say that garlic tanginess mixed with the sweet candied bacon... whew. Like... flavorful, fresh, just everything. The whole vibe? Perfect for a lunch date. The ambiance was cute, relaxed, and just right And I loved that they serve room temperature water (because ice? not my thing ‍) But let's talk about the real star--our waiter Eli He was AMAZING. Super personable, funny, and just a whole vibe. I particularly enjoyed the tikka paneer, the paneer was soft for paneer but firmer than tofu, a really great texture. And the flavor wasn't overpowering. The tikka sauce was light, which I am totally fine with. The chicken quesadilla was also made well and of good value, the kids all really liked it. The salmon was good too but didn't really stand out as much, but appreciate the variety veggies on top! The mexi-Cali shrimp bowl was not bad either, but also didn't stand out much. However, sometimes there any. My family and I were just wrapping up our annual holiday trip to The Drake (we've been coming for 15 years). I had a short window while my husband got a car and a hungry kid. Coq D'or was the only open restaurant at The Drake at the time so we went there. We waited for almost 15 minutes for our server(I had to ask 2 different staff members to get her). Someone brought us waters in the meantime and I saw other servers look at us so we didn't exactly sneak in. I ordered us a grilled cheese to share when our server finally showed up and kept us with waters, not knowing how long the food would take and when my husband would be back to pick us up. Our sandwich came out fairly quickly, but was, unfortunately, the worst grilled cheese I've ever had. When I got our check, I noticed that she'd brought us a children's grilled cheese (I didn't know this was an option as I'd looked up the menu on line while waiting). It's possible that the food was so bad because it was from the children's menu- I've noticed since having kids that some restaurants serve their trash food to kids. We were starving and our server never checked back and I didn't want to drag my son and stroller and infant through the bar looking for her. I left her a note on the back of the credit card statement (with a 20% tip), which I've posted along with my review. Although from how I observed other tables were treated, ours was an isolated experience, I will never eat in this restaurant again and recommend others think twice before doing so as there are many other options in the area.

A drink at The Drake has been on my list probably since seeing "Risky Business," so it was a treat to finally get there. The hotel itself is gorgeous, and stepping into this Prohibition-era bar is indeed like stepping back in time (until you get to the TVs that is), from the decor to Bob the bartender who has been there for 31+ years. Service is what it is, but there is an interesting, immediate familiarity between staff and patrons, many of whom are locals. That said, it's nothing particularly extraordinary, in fact it's probably overpriced. The mixed drinks are generous in their alcohol content, though it's mostly all well spirits. The wine pours are generous as well. The food looked pretty good, the gentleman next to me was raving about his crab cake. In the end, I feel like this is a spot everyone should come to once, particularly in this area during the holidays. It's a small glimpse of an old Chicago that is few and far between, and a worthwhile stop for an hour long nostalgia trip.

Service; quick, courteous, attentive. Waitstaff proving good information on menu items and pairing suggestions. They checked on us several time, ensuring everything was to our liking. If ever back in Chicago, I will definitely be look for Shang Noodle!

Went here on a whim last night after reading all the glowing reviews on Yelp. Before that, I…read morechecked out a few eateries on the 4th floor of the Nordstrom building, but nothing really stood out, and honestly, none of them seemed very busy and the one restaurant Lao Sze Chuan was way too expensive, $30+ entrees were average and the place wasn't busy at all. So I decided to try Shang Noodle, which was tucked away on a side street off Grand Ave., just steps from Michigan Ave. It's across from the Nordstrom building, past Labriola's, down some steps and about a block away located on the south side of the street. As soon as I walked in, and I wasn't expecting this but the restaurant was extremely loud and nearly every seat was taken and everybody seemed to be enjoying themself, families, couples and groups. I figured that was a good sign and it signaled to me that the food was probably good! At first, the host wanted me to sit at the bar, which I politely declined because I don't usually sit at bars, also, I was there to eat, not pick up somebody! I noticed a small table open, pointed it out, and he kindly let me take it. No 'tude either! As far as my server goes, she was efficient, friendly, and very helpful with recommendations since it was my first visit and probably because I didn't look like the other customers who were more familiar with the cuisine. She suggested the pot stickers over the hot and sour soup, and the beef Chow Fun instead of chicken Chow Fun. The pot stickers were a little small, but crispy and very tasty. I also asked for some sweet and sour sauce on the side which I'm glad I did because it paired nicely with the pot stickers instead of that plain vinegar sauce they usually serve you. For my main dish, I ordered the char-grilled beef Chow Fun. The portion size was more than generous, and the char-grilled beef had a great umami flavor. A few of the rice noodles were a bit firm, likely undercooked, but overall though it was quite enjoyable. What I appreciated the most about Shang Noodle was the value. $18 for the beef Chow Fun and $9 for the pot stickers felt reasonable to me, considering it was on the dinner menu, the portion sizes were humongous and the restaurant was located on the Near North Side, which is usually quite pricey. I'll definitely be back, though next time I may try lunch instead, or go with friends of mine.
