Learning about Bombar's Beemers from word of mouth a year and a half ago after a poor, incomplete service and hearing "I just don't know" at two other shops my experience has been great. With a mechanical background and just enough knowledge to be a painful customer it is very difficult to perform to a high enough standard to keep me pleased, never mind long after the work has been completed. More recently a west coast shop told me an item could not be repaired and major frame components would have to be replaced, yes parts had to be ordered and modified but including shipping the entire cost was comparable to the west coast quote.
Looking for a shop to "go through" a retired California Highway Patrol bike, an 05 R1150RTP, they have also performed upgrades and rebuilt my wife's 96 R1000RT. Both bikes have had extensive refit, the list is too long to go through however notably complete electrical refit on the 1150 with many added farkles wired into existing police switches, suspension upgrade to Hyperpro shocks and virtually every system has been upgraded to current specs and best known practices. On the 1100 the ABS was upgraded to a larger ID tubing markedly improving the response, and a transmission rebuild with full race matched gears makes this bike respond far better than the original. Two sweet rides!
A word on Hyperpro, owning two bikes with Ohlins (the 96 R1100RT and an 2002 R1150GT) and the R1150RTP with the Hyperpro, both are great systems but to replace original equipment Hyperpro hands down with a more positive feel across terrain changes both with heavily loaded and light bikes.
Good service is not cheap but you get what you pay for. If you want to ride across country and back or across Europe than come to Bombar's Beemers. As with anything sometimes bugs need to be worked out but these folks will stand behind their work and help find solutions to difficult problems. read more
