Vanilla Sundae w. the works

When I heard Bomb Bomb was being purchased by Baldino, my husband and I knew we needed to add it to the lineup of Italian restaurants to frequent in Philly. Upon entry, you're immediately greeted by checkered dining tables, folks adorned with a big ol' smiles and plastic crab bibs, a bustling bar and the aroma of delicious Italian food making its way from the kitchen to patrons tables. Bomb Bomb offers uniquely "seafood-centered" southern Italian fare and boy if this is your thing (like it is mine), you're in for a treat! Something to note, the $62/pp price fixe allows you to order a certain amount of dishes from the dining menu, but don't just limit yourself to those options! The bar menu has some great heavy hitters you'll want to give a try! Ordered Items: - Mozzarella en Carrozza (Bar Menu) - Roast Pork Sammy (Bar Menu) - Clams in White Wine Sauce (Dining Menu) - Mom's Stuffed Calamari (Dining Menu) - Whole Dungeness Crab (Dining Menu + $) - Lobster Francese (Dining Menu) - Carbonara (Dining Menu) - Ice Cream Sundae (Dining Menu + $) For 2 people, (4) entrees + an addition of a Pasta Side are included in the price fixe. Hands down, some of the show stoppers came directly from the bar menu. You can't go wrong with hot, mouth watering, fried mozzarella thats stringy pull takes you from one end of the dining room to the next. After decimating the mozzarella, the real special bite comes from the steaming roasted pork sandwich served with a side of its very own au jus. Flavorful, juicy just like a warm hug. Some highlights from the dining menu, I just wouldn't pass up on reordering in the future: the whole Dungeness Crab + Lobster Francese. Although requiring some work, the Dungeness Crab hits it out of the park on flavor + natural butteriness. Ditch the side of melted butter it comes with, you'd be doing a great disservice to yourself for not savoring the crabs delicious Sicilian inspired seasoning. As far as the Lobster Francese goes, this dish stands out as one of the more refined + naturally rich dishes we had this evening. Comprised of some of our most favorite ingredients (butter, capers, decadent lobster) the trifecta pairing of all three of these ingredients rewards your mouth with the most beautiful, delicate symphony of flavors. Too good to pass up, a staple that just can't be missed. Aside from these showstoppers, the true heart of Bomb Bomb derives directly from those serving table side. Jack our server did not fail us on menu recommendations. Linda, the walking heartbeat of Bomb Bomb... equally as entranced by the menu and prime advocate for Sicilian cuisine, will truly make your dining experience. Linda to Bomb Bomb is Dolores to Palizzi. IYKYK. You can't have one without the other. Aislinn was the first smile to greet us and the last to bid our farewells. Ensuring our cups were never empty and our bellies always full! Thank you to this wonderful team for an incredible evening - wouldn't have wished to celebrate my birthday in any other way!

Truly an intimate experience. Very south philly, bar on one side and tables on the other. Recommend the frozen cocktails and black ink pasta. Service was great

This place is a great happy hour. Honestly, the breaded chicken wing on the menu was something a local supermarket sells at the hot deli section so I would not get. I really wanted to try to pork wings but they were out. We also got the crab spaghetti which was very good. I really want to try their ribs the next time though. The waitress was super funny and kind so I gotta give it another star.

As soon as you walk inside this palace looks like a gem. They're playing 80's pop. Little dive bar feels. I instantly felt in my heart this was a win. We sat down and the bar tender Lisa was very sweet. Not to mention she made some great drinks. Little did we know this would be the only great think about this place. We ordered fried calamari, Sliders and wings. Everything came out almost INSTANTLY. I've worked in a retirar before so I was like hold up. That means they either had the food sitting out or I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt, they have enough people working that they have the ability to move THAT QUICK. The foodie in me went in. The calamari was okay. It's not served with marinara. It's served with some tangy spicy sauce. Not bad. I myself wouldn't ever go there again and order calamari. Then came out the wings. Fat girl in me is ecstatic. One bite, and they are FROZEN STILLLLLL. Our food came out real fast because it wasn't done cooking. I was so upset because then my bar tender is giving other ppl great customer service and she's no where to be found. Then she came back with the sliders and we explained to her our dilemma, she was very apologetic, took them back. We told her to take them off. She kept insisting they would make more but I was soooooo good off that. The sliders, pickles seemed old. Buns were fresh but we were already turned off. Only thing in my eyes that was good about this place was the martinis Lisa was making and her great attitude. Also I used the bathroom and it was super clean. Other then that, no way I'm returning. I rather not eat frozen food. In my eyes the only thing that didn't make me angry was that our bar tender had such great customer service and she was very apologetic. Also, the menu says Red Bull and vodka as a drink special BUT the bar tender told us that they only buy Red Bull when it's on sale. Also it says martini on the menu for happy hour but it has to be either straight or twisted or else it doesn't apply. Once we ordered apple martini she wasn't giving us happy hour prices anymore.

Ok, I found this place on Yelp. This was my third choice. Because I was craving ribs. The first rib place wasn't open. Then, second place sold out ribs and everything. At this point, I was upset because I wanted some ribs on a nice day. I just want a ribs sandwich. I drove from Germantown Ave to the first place, was on Erie Ave, and second place was around Snyder Ave. And then I found this place Boom Boom. It was a bar/ restaurant located on the corner of a block. My gps got me their with no problem. I parked my car and walked down the street. When it and there was no one at the front, welcome you in the place had to rooms. The bar area and the back where the restaurant part was plus the kitchen and bathrooms. It was dark and dreary. Don't get me wrong, just a little from the two or four windows. and the front door was open with a little light coming in. So when I walked in, as I stated earlier, no one was at the front. I walked at this open, and it was people eating lunch. They looked at me, and I looked back. I they were wondering why this black lady looking at us. So I went back to the front and had a set at the bar. Waited for about 10 to 15 minutes, so I looked at the appt on Yelp and called the restaurant, and a lady answered and asked, "Can she help me I answered yes I'm in the font and would like to order. She told me that she would be right up here to take my oder she was helping out. Ok, she came out and asked me what I wanted. I told her to place an order this was fust time here. Then she handed me a menu and like she was in a rush so I called my husband to she if he want any thing. So, as I was on the phone and looking over the menu, she said out of nowhere, so what are you ordering. Then she looked up and saw that I was on the phone. I told her to give me a minute. So she said ok told my husband what they had and all that he wanted was the salmon blt. So the lady came back over to take my order, so I said I would like a rib platter for me, and it came with fries and coleslaw. I ordered my husband the salmon blt but with no tomatoes, sauce, and no bacon. Then she said I'll be back. I'm going to put your order in fine. Came just talking, and at one point, I zoned out because she was talking too much. Then she asked me if I wanted a drink ok I would like a Pina colada she looked in the refrigerator, and their was no mix to make my drink. Then she started their she had to go get in the back. At the time, I told her it was okay. I could order a coconut rum and pineapple juice, and that would be fine. She made it and and it was. So, while I was waiting, a guy came in he must have been a regular. They started talking about something, and then she asked if he wanted his usual. And all you heard in the was the yard door open and close and the staff must have been smoking. So then another worker came into the restaurant she started talking to her she put her stuff down and made her fresh cup of coffee but she wanted tea but put creamer in her cup. So she had to drink the coffee and it was smelling good. Oh, I forgot they been cooking the ribs outside because of the door. But my food wasn't that hot. The coffee had a smell but you couldn't smell the food. Then three people came in to eat, and the lady asked, "Do you have reservation. and the lady behind the bar said you can seat yourself. I'm still drinking my drink and looking around and waiting on our food. Then, a couple came in and sat at the bar. What really to the cake was when the lady behind told them it was Happy Hour and told them a list of items that what was for happy hour. Know that was something and rude. So our food finally came and she gave me the bill and it was $40.00 or more so I opened the food to check it my rib platter looked ok and my husband sandwich had a tomato on it I told her I said no tomatoes and told no I didn't . So guesset what I won't be going back to the Boom Boom Restaurant. Believe this was the spot, and I was tried and hungry. When you come into the restaurant, everyone should be treated the same. I didn't have a happy hour drink. I pay eight dollars. So let me finish telling you all my long story finally got ed my hands. Putting up my item that was purchased from the reading terminal. Proceeded to open the food, and it was cold, so I had to warm it up. First, for my husband, then mine. So the ribs were not good at all. I was so made that if you look at the Yelp page, the ribs look good. But taste was not their for me. You know whe you what so bad and then it doesn't turn out right well that was these ribs and the coleslaw tasted like it had a lot of vinegar in it no thank you and fries was ok. So let me tell you about the salmon BLT. First of all, their item should be on the menu also, and my husband said the salmon was not farm raised so he could eat it at all.

We came about 10-15 minutes after their 5pm opening, and were able to get seated as walk-ins. It appears to be a small space, but there's actually a little back patio with additional seating. I ordered the Shrimp Scampi Linguine ($25) and my friend enjoyed the Braised Short Rib Lumache ($25). Food was brought out quickly. I did find the shrimp scampi to be salty, but I guess that's from the capers. The rock shrimp was cut into small pieces, so it was hard to gauge the amount of shrimp that I was given, but it wasn't an overwhelming amount. The shrimp was cooked nicely (not overcooked) and I enjoyed the lemony garlic butter sauce. Having snacked at Reading Terminal Market right before, I wasn't too hungry. I would come back when I have a bigger appetite to try the Mushroom Arancini. Their menu also appears to be seasonal. We visited in September and they were already offering more fall dishes featuring butternut squash (which was different from what was posted on their website). Service was pleasant. Little Nonna's was good but nothing life-changing.

The dish was delicious. I enjoyed my plate of sea-inspired tonnarelli nero. Bay scallops in crab ragu with fennel sofrito. Served with squid ink pasta that imparted a slight brininess. The pasta was cooked pangrattato style-- coated in panko bread crumbs and garlic. The dish had many flavors but they all came back to the theme. Cocktail prices and entree prices were very reasonable. They offer happy hour drinks and specials. Certainly a very good choice if you're in the area.

We also got fried artichokes as an appetizer. It was crispy and salty -- I could munch on that alone. For the entree, I got the veal braciole with tagliatelle and tomato sugo. The whole dish tasted homey, like what you would get at an Italian family's house. The veal braciocle was small, and I wished there was more protein and less pasta to be more balanced. For dessert, everyone raved about their gelato. Their pistachio flavor was clearly a favorite, as it had intense fresh pistachio flavor. It was also tan in color, as you would expect a pistachio nut to be, not the artificial green color added to other pistachio gelatos. I had the amaretto cherry flavor. It was good too, although I wished it had more cherries. A few people got their espresso, and really enjoyed it. They roast their own coffee on-site, so I am not surprised again how fresh it tasted. Tip: Pour a little of their fantastic coffee over your gelato to make your own fresh affogato. I came here with a large group and despite the tight space, we felt cozy. Service was spectacular. We had multiple food allergies in the group, and the waitstaff took each one very seriously, asking down to the detail if the allergy was by consumption or cross-contamination. Thank you to the staff for being so conscientious!

Really nice setup, relaxed South Philly atmosphere, good drinks on the table, good food coming out, and you're just hanging out with friends. Nothing felt rushed. They have some interesting cocktails instead of just the same stuff you see everywhere, which I appreciated. The staff also deserves a shoutout. Everyone was friendly and attentive, but they gave us space to enjoy ourselves. That's a big thing for me. When you're having dinner with friends, you don't want to feel like you're being pushed through the meal so they can flip the table. By the end of the night, it wasn't even just about the food anymore. We were outside in South Philly, eating some really good Italian food, having drinks, laughing, celebrating two birthdays and just enjoying each other's company. Those are the dinners you remember. Big thank you to Maria and Mariangeli for treating Chef Dionicio and me, and to Chef Dionicio for putting us onto Fiorella in the first place.

My favorite restaurant that I went to while visiting Philly. This place feels like being back in…read moreItaly. It is tiny inside with just a bar and a couple tables. That's it. I love this European feel. Up first, I had a $17 El Noe. I was hoping for a strong burnt mezcal taste, but nope. It seems like only Florida gets this drink right. The drink wasn't bad at all, but I was just looking for that burnt taste. I also had a $18 Dirty Pasta Water Martini, basically a dirty martini. It was fine, but it came in a micro grass which was kind of weird. Clearly this isn't a place you come for cocktails. Now, onto the star of the night, the food. Up first, the $16 Spring Salad. Loved it, hit the spot. Also, had the $17 Arancini. I really liked those little balls and especially the dipping sauce. I had the $26 Rigatoni. It was absolutely phenomenal. I could go eat it every day. My mom had the $24 Tonnarelli and it was also top tier excellent. The flavors, the atmosphere, the staff, everything here is top notch. The Internet did not let me down. I'm so glad I decided to book this restaurant. I had a wonderful night.
