I took my brand new Beretta 695 over under to these guys today. I bought it online. I could not figure out how to close the action because the ejectors kept getting in the way. Turns out the ejectors came misaligned by the seller on GunBroker. Wish I got the guy's name behind the counter. He quickly determined the problem, took it to the back, and adjusted the ejectors and fixed the problem. For free. With smiling attitude and no condescension. Around December 5th I ordered an AR15 lower and selected Bolsa Gunsmithing as the FFL where I would do my transfer because I had had good experiences in the past and they had reasonable fees. So I placed my order, and then called Bolsa the next day to double check and make sure that they would still do the transfer. The gentleman on the phone assured me that when the rifle arrived they would give me a call and we could start the transfer process. Anyway, I got a call today from the website from which I ordered the rifle. The websites's rep told me that Bolsa refused my package and no longer was doing transfers unless they absolutely had to, in which case the fee was ~$125. Also the return shipping label would be printed at my expense. This also is preventing me from getting my AR before the new laws go in to effect, so that's cool, too. I haven't called Bolsa to get their side of the story, and I'm not motivated to, since they didn't see any need to contact me and tell me about their policy changes. If you want a reliable shop that is going to communicate with you then skip these guys, they're plain jokers. read more

I read the reviews and decided to visit this business, but not until after I actually sent a letter ... having not received a response I phoned several weeks later, I spoke to Dave who assured me the work I described could be done. On my arrival proudly carrying in my shotgun only to be told by the gentlemen at the counter that the work I described could not "legally" by done, contrary to my prior phone conversation with Dave. (We're talk'n placed shotgun butt stock folks) No place to barter or point fingers I walked away embarrassed and disappointed ... not to mention out time and gas as the drive was 45 minutes both ways from home. Comparing this situation with other reviews, it appears that something at the management level is afoot ... will I risk visiting this place again NOT. read more

This place is a joke. The positive reviews are from people who know nothing about guns. I came to Bolsa to have an 870 forend changed out. This is a 1 minute job, it just requires a special tool (that magpul now supplies in their kit for free) I even removed the barrel to save time before i got there.The goon at the front desk takes my gun and goes on to explain how they have a "first in, first out" policy and it would be two weeks and cost $80-100 for the work. He continues to talk about how they cant just do small jobs every time someone walks in kuz they are soooo busy. By this time he could have already replaced the forend several times. The best part was when he says "You don't want just any idiot to handle a gun like this" and proceeds to rack the shotgun (that had the barrel removed) this of course caused the parts of the bolt to go flying onto the ground and onto the glass display case. It was truly a moment of total stupidity. After this there was no way I was going to leave anything with this mental midget. I took my gun home and did the job in 5 minutes using needle nose pliers which were not ideal but got the job gone just fine. If i had been looking to buy a gun would he have told me to make an appointment in two weeks? Bolsa is known on the shotgun forums as "bolsa gun breakers" Gun smithing is a dying industry because quality guns today should last several lifetimes with just a spring or two replaced every couple decades. read more

I have been here many times and even bought guns here but as of late I have found they have implemented changes that don't suit me and it might not be good for some people. Number one they charge 85$ for a Private Party Transfer instead of the state mandated maximum of 35$ Charging more than the allowed 35$ is actually a crime. They believe they are above this law because they are gunsmiths? believe what you want but its still a crime. Number two they don't take consignments that aren't valued over 500$. Now that's just silly because consignments are a 100% profit business. Not really a problem for me as I don't require that service of any FFL but for some individuals they might. AS far as the people who work there I have had no issues with with them. They have always been nice and helpful. They are primarily gunsmiths but I have not used them for such purposes so I cannot comment on the quality of that side of the business. read more

I went in today after a recommendation from The Firing Lane, HB range. I own a number of handguns, shotguns and been around guns and shooting my whole life. My grandfather was a WWII Vet - and always educated me on guns and sport. Bolsa Gun was easy to find - on Bolsa just past Beach. Hours M-F 8-5:30 - CLOSED Saturday & Sunday. Met the guys and they were great. I have a S&W .357 revolver at the range was experiencing a light strike. Jason adjusted the spring, and they explained it was most likely the reloads from the range. They are a S&W authorized warranty center. Also had them look at my Colt .45 1911 and there was some adjustments I wanted. They looked at it and took it back and helped fix my problem. Just a small part - fixed the problem and was on my way. Picked up a clip that will hold 10 rounds too... I found them very helpful, knowledgeable and they came highly recommended. I will use them in the future for any work I need on my guns. read more

Lots of parking and easy freeway access. The shop is clean and the staff person I dealt with was polite and knowledgeable, not the overbearing or know it all type you sometimes get at shops. I dropped off a pistol for some trigger work. They warned me it would be a week or two and it ended up being a few days more, but I wasn't in a hurry. They did tell me that if I was in a hurry they could make arrangements to move mine up in the line. I appreciated that. The display area isn't huge but has a decent variety of pistols and rifles/shotguns. Looks like they might take some on consignment, though I am not sure. After getting a recommendation from my local range, I decided to give Bolsa a try. I had bought a Springfield Armory 1911 GI model because of the great feel and the beautiful retro WWII look to it. However, the GI sights left something to be desired in terms of getting the full potential out of this weapon. Basically, they were nothing more than a couple of little humps. So, after looking online for a bit, I purchased some upgraded sights that would give me some idea of where I am aiming, yet still fit in with the GI look and feel of the firearm (I'm pretty sure they didn't have tritium night sights in 1943). Long story short, I got the sights and needed them professionally installed. I know how to shoot and handle firearms safely, but a gunsmith I am not. The gentleman who helped me, Jason, was very friendly and told me the work would take about a week. Nope, it was ready after just 2 business days and the employee who helped me when I went to pick it up was just as nice. I finally had a chance to take it to the range today and it did not disappoint. The new sights were on point, allowing me to shoot nice groups that I was not able to achieve before. And the work that Bolsa performed was excellent. The sights are lined up perfectly and did not become dislodged from the forces of recoil (as they did on another sight job I had done elsewhere). I will definitely be going back to Bolsa for all of my future gunsmithing needs, and you should give them a try as well. read more

I am an 8 year Marine veteran and currently work in executive protection. I review very carefully and only after having something to review on do I review. As many of us are very cautious about who we take our guns too, I am extremely cautious because every day of my daily life depends on my weapons reliability and accuracy. Most guns I've bought are off roster and don't have night sights. My personal preference is that I will not carry a weapon without night sights as life experience has revealed to me that they are greatly needed! I have had night sights installed on over 9 of my handguns at this location and each time they have had them done in just A FEW HOURS!! For me this is awesome as! Once their on I can now carry the weapon for work! I've had two short trigger resets installed one on a sig 229 40 and on a 38 smith and wesson. Both were FLAWLESS! It took two weeks however I could care less as their craftsmanship was immaculate! With a small showroom I did not see a restroom however after asking if I could use the bathroom they said, "Sure, not a problem sir right this way." Firstly addressing me as sir is RESPECT! Secondly they could say sorry we don't let people use the bathroom. Not even turners lets you use the bathroom. I was expecting the usual filthy restroom we find at target, but to my surprise, the bathroom was SPOTLESS!! As a Marine I can quickly and confidently say that any business that pays that much attention to the little things, will inadvertently put that much if not even more attention into their work. Keep up the good work Bolsa, you guys are awesome! To all the assholes who left a bad review, eat #%*^ !! You come in here and you will find a well run business with super friendly salesmen who has impressed me greatly. I came here to have a trigger mod done on a USPc. The guy explained to me how much of a reduction in weight I should be expecting. I signed the paperwork and two weeks later, both the DA and SA pull are noticeably lighter and easier to shoot than ever. Simple and hassle free, not much else to say. The price was decent, though I do wish the turnaround time could be a little quicker. Either way, I'm satisfied with the results and would recommend/return. read more

Wasn't too sure about taking my gun to Bolsa to get it worked on, due to some reviews on Google (which to be honest are a little old). But decided to go in after a recommendation from the guys at The Stockade. First of all excellent staff, friendly and courteous. When I came in there were already people doing their DROS, at the counter but the staffer immediately told me that he'd be with me as soon as he was finished, told me once again after a few minutes passed and then apologized for the wait after he was done. Considering this was the end of the day and he was the only staff member working. I honestly wasn't in a rush and greatly appreciated the courtesy. Pick up went exactly the same, guys behind the counter acknowledged me as soon as I walked in and apologized for wait after they finished with their customers. All I needed done to was have sights (which I purchased elsewhere) installed on a handgun but they finished the install very quickly (single day) and the service was well priced. Also should note that they responded to my email very quickly unlike other gunsmiths (at Ammo Bros and Insight Range) who still haven't answered emails which were sent at the beginning of the month. Even though it's a bit of a drive, with the friendly staff and fast, well done and well priced work, Bolsa has made a return customer out of me. read more

This is definitely my favorite gun shop in Orange County. They have a decent amount of inventory and an array of firearms to pick from. The customer service is always top notch and I never feel uncomfortable when I I ask "dumb" questions. I really enjoy the fact that they aren't gun snobs like other gun stores I've been too. Came in on a strong referral from a hunting buddy... I dropped my brand new Remington 30-06 to have scope/rings mounted and then bore sighted. While I was there, I took a look at the used for sale rack. I found a great Benelli SBE in original real tree camo pattern for 700$! Too good to be true? Turns out they rehabbed the whole thing, and provided a 90 day no question asked return policy of the gun wasn't up to par. Well, 3 waterfowl seasons later and it's still my primary gun. Took my Smith & Wesson 586 4 inch to Bolsa a few months ago to have it worked on. Needless to say thatWhen I got it back it fired five rounds and the hammer stop working. I was very upset. I called Bolsa and they didn't seem like they too much cared. I started getting excuses and I didn't too much care for that either. I sent my revolver to Smith and Wesson factory and I am totally confident that they will take care of it. Surprised to find out that Bolsa is supposedly a Smith and Wesson warranty station. Amazing! They have lost a good customer and now I think that everything that they have done from mounting and torquing scopes to everything else firearms related needs to be rechecked because if I had relied on my 586 to save my life it would have failed! Once again I was impressed. Came here because I had another issue with my tomcat. Of course it was taken care of under warranty. The staff were very very nice and informed me on everything that was done to my gun. Cherry on top of it all was the guy that helped me had my gun ready when I literally walked through the door. They called me to tell my gun was ready 2 days ago but it was sitting there just ready and waiting for me. On top of that the staffer said "Shes all ready for you." I find it fun that im not the only one that refers to my guns as being female. From my 92 FS down to the tomcat all girls and to hear a staffer say that was just kind of neat and made me feel more at home. read more

Gotta say I got my Trijicon RMR sight installed on my Glock 20 at this gunshop. They did a solid job on the installation and the milling of the upper slide for a clean fitting. The RMR sight is very solid and looks like it will still uphold the Glock perfection reliability. Price was steep but when your talking optics, when isn't it. I sent my Baretta M9A3 in for warranty work because of an apparent crack in the slide below the right safety lever in the half-moon cutout area. I received a call from Bolsa on May 23rd and they stated that my "crack" was actually machining marks, and not a failure of the firearm or material... Are you kidding me??? As a fighter mechanic, I know what material failure - a crack is. They assured me that they contacted Baretta themselves and a Baretta machinist stated that it wasn't a crack but rather machine marks. I truly don't believe that this is true as I've shot M9 for over 24 years of military service. Awaiting a call back from Baretta themselves to hear what they have to say... Not the experience I was hoping for. read more

If you want to cerakote your pistol slide, do not go to bolsa gunsmithing. Price gouging at best. The place they send off for cerakote only charges $50. Bolsa charges $125. That is a difference of $75. I figured the difference amount would be gunsmithing fee but the cerakote place does not charge a disassembly fee. So where does the extra $75 goes to? So I would think the price would include shipping cost. Nope, they had the decency to charge extra for shipping. In the end it almost cost as much to get the entire pistol to be cerakoted. I knew they were asking too much but I would of never realized the extra fees piled on top. For work that they never do themselves, they seem to charge alot for no apparent reason. I debated whether I was going to leave this review, but in the end I felt it best to do so. The reason I debated leaving it is for two reasons: (1) because of the timeframe, which is, I believe 6-7 years ago that Bolsa worked on two of my rifles, a .30 '06 hunting rifle and a Browning .22. (2) In fairness, due to the timeframe and because of my irritation with my .30 '06 not being safe to fire due to their error, I did not give Bolsa the chance to correct their errors. However, after consideration of how easily another gunsmith (David at TrueZero) took care of the concerns in an expedient manner and an affordable option, making my guns safe again, I felt it my duty to leave my review. For my .30 '06 Bolsa several months to change the barrel, replace the rubber shoulder pad, add a scope, and re-blue the rifle. I was patient with the time, but I thought it was awful long. My main concern, as always, was that it'd be safe to fire. I asked them to go over it and to make sure everything was good to go and safe to fire. Between then and now I had the rifle stored. I went to shoot it a couple months ago for the first time. First shot and the plate under the rifle, where the ammunition is loaded, blew off, throwing 4 rounds of unfired ammo all about. I replaced the plate, thought maybe it hadn't been latched properly and attempted again. First shot fine, second shot, blew the plate out and an unspent round came shooting out again! I stopped shooting that rifle immediately after that now knowing something was wrong. It turned out to have two incorrect parts on the latch to that plate. My new gunsmith, TrueZero, not only replaced the parts, but also, as I would hope of anyone working on my guns, test fired it and confirmed it was corrected and safe to fire. With my .22, I brought that into Bolsa at the same time as my other rifle. It was in two pieces due to a friend of mine saying how easy these Browning's are to work on and he took the barrel off and couldn't get it back on. After I had a go at it a few times, I realized it was more than I wanted to deal with and I would rather have an expert put it back together and to ensure it safe to fire. Bolsa got this back to me quick, about a week, although I was surprised they weren't able to just put it back together there on the spot. But, so be it, I prefer it to be done right, safely and test fired. When I went to shoot this .22 for the first time since Bolsa had it, every second to third round would jam before sliding into the chamber. Again, David at TrueZero heard what I was saying and knew the problem. At first he was telling me how to fix it, telling me how to take the rifle apart and adjust the "headspace." I let him know my previous problem that I couldn't get it back together (which I hated to admit). So he took it, with a grin, and fixed the issue and let me know he test fired it, how he fired it, how many rounds he plinked through it and what types of rounds he used without duplication of the problem after the adjustment. So the reason for my low review is that the only two rifles I've taken to Bolsa were returned to me later than I thought, both had problems still, and one was unsafe to fire. The last point being my biggest concern. I had waited to shoot these rifles until I went shooting with a buddy in Colorado. That's a long way to go for three unsafely fired rounds on my .30 '06. The .22 got shot more, but was very frustrating due to the jamming problem that should have been seen in a round of test firing. read more
