So...after my dad sadly passed away, I found this box of gun parts that I recognized as pieces of his old Colt 1911. I am done w/Bolsa gunsmithing! AVOID this business. They may be able to install new sights or Glock extended mag releases, or outsource coating work but they appear incapable of all but the simplest repairs. I brought them a Winchester 1897 takedown shotgun that had issues being taken down & put back together. It could be done but you had to muscle it open or closed. That's unacceptable so I brought it to Bolsa. After having it 3 weeks, they called & said it was ready. I picked it up, paid $85 and got home & it was just as difficult. All they did was close it up & call it a day! I took a look @ it & determined that the gap in the adjusting sleeve was interfering with closing the gun all the way b/c there wasn't quite enough space in the cutout to accomodate the screw on the frame. So I dremelled it out larger and the gun now opens & closes fine! They also had my Colt M1917 revolver for a trigger install & to fix the DA timing. They installed the trigger & supposedly fixed the timing & charged me $125 for the work but I had to return it for rework b/c the timing problem persisted after they "worked" on it. They had it since August 15, the 2nd time around, without working on it at all & I just retrieved it from them October 29! The clerk just handed it over w/o a word, no explanation, no apology, no refund. Never again! read more

Great little shop who's not too snobby to only work on AR's and look down on "old wood & blued steel" or "commie junk". I needed some work done to my sks paratrooper (stock repair, murray's firing pin replacement, bayonet screw and stock action bar fitting). Quality of work was great, they even fabricated a retaining pin for the bayonet that is flush, looks the part and is way more secure than the original design that came apart under recoil/ heat despite of locktite etc. All this for a fair price and good turnaround time with an update call along the way from Dave and Justin, gotta love it thanks fellas. Bolsa Gunsmithing is an authorized Beretta Service Center. I called them and spoke to Wendy about swapping out sights on two Beretta PX4 slides. She informed it would be $65 per slide to change out the sights. So I sent them two brand new Beretta PX4 slides and two sets OEM factory adjustable sights......one slide was returned perfect and the other was returned buggered up! The "gunsmith" was either high, drunk or just outright incompetent as he made no attempt to pad the one slide in his tooling. This resulted in the deformation of the rear slide serrations and removal of the finish. Clearly he corrected his screw up on the second slide. They made no effort to contact me and advise me of their screw up, nor did the make any effort to at least try and repair the damages. I contacted them via email and they've made ZERO effort to answer back. Also, when Wendy called me to get my credit card payment info, she tried to charge me for return shipping. I had enclosed a very detail letter AND a prepaid USPS return shipping label....she looked in the box and said, "oh yeah, here it is." Clearly they didn't bother to READ the detailed letter! The laughable part of this is that the price they were trying to collect for return shipping didn't include any additional insurance, just the $100 included with Priority mail. If these were lost....It would cost me at least $1,000 to replace the slides and adjustable sights....dolts! In closing: Bolsa Gunsmithing are indifferent hacks at best and you'll be doing yourself a huge favor by seeking out alternative companies to preform your gunsmithing needs. read more

Bought a used PX4 in great condition visually. Took the weapon to the range and ran almost 150 rounds through it before it jammed in the closed position. I could not slide the upper back at all. It was jammed in the closed position. After messing with it for a few monutes i could get the shell to eject. Took gun back to have it checked out. They chrged me $97 dollars and could not explain why it jammed. They tried to tell me that it was assembled wrong. Note that i never took the gun apart before going to the range. I was ready to purchase two more guns there. Not anymore! Shop there at your own risk! read more

I have used Bolsa Gunsmiths off and on for several years. Mostly for some kind of repair or advice. On 1-17-2024 I was having an issue with my S&W M&P 9. I took it apart and cleaned it. I couldn't get it back together again! No matter what I did and followed factory directions. It was about 1430hrs I gave up, and drove to Bolsa Gunsmiths feeling really embarrassed about not be able to get the gun back together. I explained the situation I was in and showed the box of disassembled 9MM to the person behind the counter. He diagnosed the issue in seconds and assembled the gun the same time. My overall experience was horrible. Dropped my rifle off for repair and waited 4 weeks which was fine, however I called to get a status update and they placed me on hold for over an hour. The next day they call and said the rifle was fine and no repair was needed and proceed to charge me $97 dollars anyway. The WORST is coming home with the rifle and when I did a chamber check sore putting it away, I found there was a round loaded in the chamber!!!! I mean who does that! Never again! if you say you check the camera footage you should post your footage to prove that I'm lying. Because when the rifle was handed to me it was not checked! Took my dads old rifle here to be refurbished. The young man who helped me initially quoted me a great price for what I believed to be potentially an expensive overhaul, so I left it in their hands. I called a few weeks later to see how it was going and they said it was "on the bench". I waited another few more weeks and stopped by while I was in the neighborhood and the older not-so-friendly gentleman gruffly told me it wasn't ready. A few weeks later I called in again and I was told the rifle was now ready. Good thing I called I guess because it didn't seem like they were in a hurry to call me. When I picked up the rifle the same young man who initially helped was now very aloof. My interpretation is that the original quote was way too low and the boss wasn't happy about. That's just speculation. Anyway... the rifle does look great... but... Today I took the rifle to the range for the first time and never got a shot off because it just kept jamming. The guy at the range suggested I take it back to Bolsa and I said "No thanks... I'll inquire elsewhere"... I do see in the reviews that there are a lot of happy customers and I'm sure they are a capable gun smithing operation. Took a 45 year old Beretta to them because the slide would not release to be able to remove for cleaning. They said 3-4 weeks. OK, I thought that was a bit long, but I needed it done and they were the only gunsmith that the Beretta company had on their list of gunsmiths in the CA. Well They called 3 hours later and said it is done. Great, I was still in the area. When I got there to pick it up, they informed me what the problem was and they replaced one spring. My new Beretta PX-4 9mm pistol came from the factory with combat sights, which seemed to shoot far too low. Since I am a target shooter, not expecting combat any time soon, I decided to have the sights switched to Beretta adjustable. Problem is, no San Diego area gunsmith I queried would agree to do this job. "Too difficult" was the concensus. Beretta.com provided a listing of company-authorized gunsmiths, and the closest was Bolsa Gunsmithing. The owner, Jason N. promptly provided me with a quote and the model number of the sights to be installed via E-mail. His price for the sights was less than Beretta's, and his labor estimate was comparable to San Diego gunsmiths. I decided to take my pistol and drive up to Westminster to meet Jason and see his shop. Jason was at the counter when I walked in, and proved not only to be an extremely knowledgeable gunsmith, but was quite personable and obviously respectful of his customers. The latter two qualities seem to be lacking in the San Diego gunsmithing community. Jason examined my Beretta and said he would have it ready in two hours! It was almost shocking to hear such customer-oriented service from a gunsmith. Sure enough, he called me while I was having lunch at nearby Lynda Sandwiches. The installation looks perfect, and my next pleasurable task will be to take it to the range and zero it in. I am happy and very relieved to know that I have located an excellent gunsmith who will provide future services for me, even if by mail. Although I visited Bolsa for gunsmithing, I noticed the shop is very well inventoried with firearms and ammunition and the selection of shotguns and black rifles is outstanding. I would always take my guns to bolsa gunsmith to get my pistols zero as they do a good job. They are a very busy shop but do a good job. They have an indoor range so they test fire their zeros. If you suck at zeroing like I do, I highly recommend them. read more

Having picked up a new Smith & Wesson 442 Centennial recently, I was appalled at the horrendously rough double-action trigger pull and felt the installation of an Apex J-frame Duty Kit by Bolsa Gunsmithing was in quick order. I've had Bolsa Gunsmithing install the same kit in my Smith & Wesson 638 Bodyguard a few years ago as they were an authorized Smith & Wesson Warranty Service Center in the past. I dropped off the Centennial with the Bolsa Gunsmithing staff and, a few days later, I received a call to pick her up. The trigger action is now much more manageable and very smooth (made even smoother with a thousand or so dryfirings with snap caps). I'm sure it's an easy job to install the spring kit as there are a multitude of YouTube videos showing one how to install it, but, when I put my trust in a firearm (even a Lilliputian five-shot) to defend my life, my loved ones, and the general public, I'd rather have a professional do it. As a testament to Bolsa Gunsmithing's skills and attention to detail, I can find no perceptible damage to the frame or screw head slots one may find on a returned revolver from a less than competent gunsmith! UPDATE 2: I just went to Match Grade Gunsmiths in Cerritos to see if they can fix the screwup caused by Bolsa Gunsmithing. I met Master Gunsmith Sal, and he was able to undo the damage caused by Bolsa Gunsmithing. He carefully and throughly examined my pistol, and discovered that Bolsa Gunsmithing "warped" and "twisted" my pistol's floorplate and damaged the frame. I couldn't believe it until he explained and showed me EXACTLY what Bolsa Gunsmithing did to cause the damage and unprofessional work. Sal was able to fix the frame and floorplate shape, and fit the floorplate flush with the frame, which Bolsa Gunsmithing failed to do. His customer service was superior to Bolsa Gunsmithing in every way, and strives for customer satisfaction. He is not satisfied unless you're satisfied. He is a real professional. Bolsa Gunsmithing needs to learn a lesson or two on customer service/satisfaction and performing professional work. I will not be entrusting my guns for work to Bolsa Gunsmithing anymore. UPDATE: The floor plate is NOT 100% flush/fitted to the bottom frame upon closer inspection at home. Bolsa Gunsmithing put in a good effort but unfortunately I am not 100% satisfied with the work. I will have to find another smith who can remedy this issue. The work was performed by either Jason or Joe, he was tall guy with a red shirt and wore glasses. I was given attitude and bad service just because of my criticism for his apparent and shoddy work. After about three or so criticisms of his work, the floorplate still wasn't fitted perfectly to the frame. The gunsmith literally told me to take it or leave it, as bad as his work was, not a good gunsmith to deal with who doesn't care about performing good work. Clearly the gunsmith in question was not precise, careful, and not striving for customer satisfaction. Once I expressed my dissatisfaction for the fourth time, the gunsmith told me to leave and wait for a call back. Shortly after the incident, while I was driving back home, I received a call from Bolsa Gunsmithing, and I was THREATENED by the representative on the phone, to come pick up my gun or else they will keep(stealing something that wasn't yours to begin with) my gun. I immediately drove back, and John, who seems to be the most experienced pistol smith in the shop, shows me my gun and says the floorplate is "fitted" now. It appeared to be while I was in the shop, and I was skeptical with the small gaps between the frame and floorplate. I didn't want cause more fuss, so I paid and edited my review while in store reflecting the fitting was fixed. And as it turns out, the shoddy work reveals itself upon closer inspection at home. Pictures of the floorplate show the shoddy work of how the floorplate was "fitted" and which could explain why the floorplate is not flush with the frame. The front of the floorplate is slightly sticking out forward of the frame. Not a professional fit. The filing technique used on one of the "ears" was done improperly and is crooked. The floorplate is not flush towards the rear. The hole of the floorplate was "enlarged" upon inspection, I never asked for the hole of the floorplate to be expanded, as that area was fine to begin with. read more

When I lived in Southern CA I used Bolsa as needed with older guns that I don't have the time, tools or knowledge to repair myself. I moved out of CA a few years ago to a smaller community and finding a reliable gunsmith has been a challenge. I recently found a significant crack in the checkered wood forend of my 1960s AYA Matador Double Barrel 10ga. I attempted to find a way to strap it in place for glue multiple times with no luck due to the curves, and none of the local gunsmiths would touch it. I reached out to Bolsa and sent pics and they said no problem so I shipped it out. Just 2-3 weeks later I received the piece and if I didn't know where to look I would never know there had been an issue, it simply looks like part of the wood grain.
