This is THE BEST PLACE to get Indian food in LA in my views. Today we tried Kadhai Paneer thali and pani puri. I can tell you that it was the beat kadhai paneer I have ever had! What a beautiful smoky flavor with right balance of spices and salt. Just amazing ! Their samosa is like always so authentic and delicious with lots of potatoes peas filling. And we also loved their pani puri which was very crunchy and light, filled with very nice potato masala and of course served with tangy spicy water that you can't complain about! Their naan and tandoori roti are so light and soft compared to other restaurants. OVERALL A GREAT PLACE TO ENJOY NORTH INDIAN FOOD!

Came in just after 9p and was seated, but customers that came at 930p were told they could get take out only. Most dishes average $15-20. Got small Taj Mahal, garlic naan extra garlic, and Kadai (cheese) Paneer. DELICIOUS! If this place rebranded into a late night spot, it could get packed.

The Bollywood Bites truck in Santa Monica.

You can't miss Bollywood Bites if it stops by your area. It's a bright orange truck that leaves behind a fragrant scent of Indian spices wherever it goes. It stopped by at USC's Save Tommy Night to sell some of its various curries and wraps to anyone that was near Tommy Trojan that time of night. Thankfully, I happened to be there! I know very little about Indian food, and since I have had a few bad experiences ordering spontaneously and freely at Indian restaurants, I usually stick to anything Chicken Tikka. And that's what I decided on - the Chicken Tikka bowl. It came out quicker than I thought it would, and I nearly fell over from the weight of the curry. They give you a lot -- that's for sure. However, my first bite was... anticlimactic. I expected a whirwind of rich flavors and a kick that would get my eyes watering and my tongue simmering, but not to the point that I needed to be taken to the ER. Instead, I got a watered-down version of the Chicken Tikka that I know so well. The chicken was easy to tear into and the rice was pretty well cooked... but the curry was disappointing. Chasing down this truck won't be necessary anytime soon....

The similarities are unintentional but Bollywood Bites is like Bollywood movies. They can either be very very good or very very bad. Surprisingly it was the difficult things they did well, and the simpler items they had trouble with. I ordered a combo, that came with 2 entrees, basmati rice and naan. I chose chicken tikka marsaka, and lamb vindaloo, but they didn't have lamb ob the truck so I switched to a shrimp vindaloo. The Chicken Tikka Marsala was outstanding, it was a dark orange curry, that was hot without being overwhelming. I could have eaten a whole bowl of it.and called it a meal too. The shrimp was well spiced too. It was a different curry, and the shrimp was more prevalent than the potatoes. I do wish that they had removed the shrimp tails, before adding the sauce, but then I wish every place would do that. What I dont understand is how lame the rice was. By volume this was half the meal, and it was cold. I was served a bright yellow rice, that looked like saffron, but tasted like, well, nothing. It could have been plain white rice. I would have enjoyed soaking up the curry. How is it they got the marsala and vandaloo heated to the proper temperature but failed so badly on the rice? I was also disappointed in the naan. I don't know what the solution is as obviously a brick tandoor isn't an option your average food truck, but reheating packaged naan from a restaurant supply house isn't the answer either. The price was $7.50 for the meal. Sodas are a dollar and inexplicably, they had Caffeine free Diet Coke, so I passed and bought a soda at a nearby store. Since I work pretty close to LA Mart I try to checkout the food trucks that showup. This week was Bollywood Bites. The truck was very clean and there was practically no wait after we ordered. The food was good, but the sauce stole the show. Spicy, spicy, spicy! Not hot, just a lot of spice and it works well. The flat bread that they provide is perfect to sop up all the sauce, yum. I think next time ill just get the masala in a bowl though.

Chicken Marsala

Anytime I'm in or around West LA or Santa Monica area I look on twitter to hunt this amazing food truck down. My favorite dish on this truck has got to be the spicy Chicken Marsala. The chicken is very tender and cooked to perfection, it's served on a nice size portion of rice which is also very flavorful. The owner and cook are very friendly people and always have nice recommendations for the newcomers to the Indian cuisine like myself. Thanks! Keep it up guys. I also here that they have a restaurant in Westwood, I will have to stop by some time in the near future and give it a shot!

This was described as a "kathi roll," which is a lie. Do an image search for "kathi roll" and see if your results look anything like this.

I feel robbed by this place! I ordered a kathi roll. The picture on the menu looked great. It was wrapped in the proper Indian paratha, stuffed with chicken, onions, paneer, good stuff. What I received was gross, and basically amounted to a burrito stuffed with rice (not typically found in kathi rolls), wilted lettuce, and some chicken. And worst of all it was wrapped in a tortilla?? That is not the right bread for a kathi roll!! For those not familiar with the dish, imagine if you went to a Mexican restaurant and ordered a chicken quesadilla, and then you received ground meat, American cheese and rice sandwiched between two slices of Wonderbread. THAT IS NOT THE DISH I ORDERED! It is not even the dish that was pictured on the side of the truck! EVEN WORSE -- I just did an image search for "Kathi Roll" and the second photo that popped up was the photo on the truck. It looks great, but it has nothing to do with Bollywood Bites, and it is not at all what I received and paid NINE (!) dollars for. If you want to sell an Indian burrito, call it a burrito, and make sure you show an accurate photo of the food you're serving. Bait and switch = robbery. Not going back, and I will do everything in my power to make sure no one I know eats here again. The samosa was not bad.

Paneer Tikka Masala Naan Wrap

Perfect Paneer Tikka Masala Naan Wrap. This thing is delicious. Its the only thing I ever order from here. With the perfect amount of sauce, big chunks of cheese, and (although questionable at first) some crunchy lettuce. Its the perfect wrap. These are so good, I find it hard to even share one of these. Really they are that good.

Beware when they ask for fresh tortillas. These will be extra charge that they don't inform you about. Small prices increase over the years is fine but adding this and that fee to the total cost is unacceptable. Most importantly they forgot an order from my total order. The sign doesn't list any prices, so I was surprised when the total was $15. I asked before I left how much one taco was, just to make sure it wasn't a mistake, and the cashier said $3 something. Rice and beans as a side must have been $4-5. The price was not ideal but makes sense considering it's Westwood and service was fast. I brought my tacos home to eat and was disappointed to see that the beans had spilled through the hole in the lid and the salsa/juice from tacos was leaking from the taco plate. It made a huge mess getting it out of the bag onto my table. Be careful opening because it was not packaged well. They should especially consider getting different containers for rice and beans. The tacos were fully topped with onions and cilantro, and they included a side of grilled onions, limes, and two salsas. I would much rather top it myself, but this worked okay. The pollo and asada were average, not much flavor and a lot of taco juice making the tortilla wet. The pastor was just bad; I didn't finish it. Very dry, not much flavor. Rice and beans were fine. Better luck going to other well known stands in West LA. There's room for improvement here, but it is in a convenient spot. Probably will only come back for a Taco Tuesday deal.
