Unfortunately, the rice didn't seem fully cooked, it was cold and the overall aroma and flavor were not very appealing, I paid 70$ for trash that couldn't continue my food. I also felt that the customer service could be improved, especially in terms of welcoming and interacting with guests. A warmer approach would make a big difference in the overall experience. A very disappointing restaurant that lacks quality! The restaurant stopped seating customers 40 minutes before closing and made it very inconvenient. I called at 9 PM today to inquire what time they stopped seating and was told 9:30 PM. We arrived at 9:20 and were told they were no longer seating. I explained to them that I had called just 20 minutes prior and was told 9:30, which the employee just shrug off and had no desire for business. I went in at around 11 AM so it wasn't too busy.. I decided to go to a random restaurant in the Westwood area and decided on Bollywood Bites not expecting anything too crazy to be honest but man was I wrong. I promptly got seated and given the menu and not too long after my order was taken, I decided to go with Chicken Tikka Masala with a side of naan, service was fast & food was brought out steaming and smelling good. I immediately dug in to the chicken to taste it and was immediately shot with creamy tomato flavor.. I had to mix that sauce with the rice immediately just so good! For 6 years my husband and I didn't see our friend who lives in Washington D.C. Fortunately, he was here and we went to have a dinner. He loves Indian food, when he saw this place he liked in the first sign. The food is really tasty, they don't ask how spicy could be, okay? The service is very nice and friendly. Dined in for lunch on 3/13/25 with friends/coworkers. We always enjoy eating here. There's only 1 person who takes care of the customers and he is efficient. He always has a smile and very helpful. During lunchtime, it has always been the same waiter and he's friendly and provides great service. We always order lunch special which is a great value. They also offer great options from chicken, seafood and vegetarian options as well. I love the shrimp masala. This time I tried the chicken masala and it was delicious! I also love the naan bread! If naan was the only thing they had, I would be happy to eat just the naan, that's how delicious their naan is. I always get the garlic naan. The ambiance is relaxing, this time, the restaurant was full so it was loud. The restaurant is clean. They are located across the street from Whole Foods near UCLA. I haven't been to India, so I can't speak as to whether Bollywood Bites is authentic or not. I can only speak to whether the food aligned with my taste buds or not. And it did. Stopped in for dinner with a friend last week. I have to admit, on the way, I'm sending text messages asking about parking. Told that there was a lot of street parking, I was still anxious. But when I got there, there was quite a available spots. I don't know what the enforced hours are - but I'd rather pay the few bucks and avoid the fine. There's a Whole Foods across the street that looks like it has a parking garage. I don't know if that's paid or timed - gonna have to see for yourself. Walked in. Pretty empty. My friend at one table and another party - just finishing up. Not a large place but would easily accommodate a small party - not sure how it would work for a large group though. Probably would have to call well ahead and make reservations. If that's even possible. Service was fine. Again, not quite attentive but there when needed. Friendly. explained the menu and dishes. Refills, etc. Then the food - which I enjoyed. I thought it would be spicy as in hot. And though it wasn't, the flavors made up for it. The meats were tender and juicy. The greens were crisp. The sauces and dips were more than enough for the dish. And I loved the Garlic Naan. I kept eating the bread even after I was full. I don't make it out to Westwood often so coming back for me is in the undecided column. I don't eat Indian food often but I know about this place as an option should I ever have a craving. read more

After a few days of Italian food, a few colleagues at work wanted to switch up the vibe and decided to eat some Indian food for a change. I decided to join the party last minute and seems that it didn't matter anyways as the place was fairly empty. We ordered a ton of items to share. They were vegetarian and non-vegetarian. The vegetarian items ordered were: Pakoras: pretty solid Baingan Bharta: also quite good Bhindi Masala: didn't disappoint The non-vegetarian items included a Chicken Tikka, Vindaloo (which wasn't as highly favored), and I believe a chicken tikka masala. My husband loved going here when he worked for UCLA several years back. I had to go to LA for my passport and decided to come here for lunch. I ordered the fish pakodas, chicken vindaloo and garlic naan. The fish was very soft and fried very well. It was delicious in taste, alongside mint and tamarind chutney. We tried the vegeatable biriyani and the baingan bharta. Would not recommend either. The biriyani was not well cooked and had almost no flavor. The baingan bharta has more tomatoes than actual eggplant. It was better than the biriyani in terms of the quality but was still extremely bland. It was The service was also poor. When my local Indian restaurant no longer became an option, we decided to try Bollywood Bites. To be honest, we probably would have tried this place earlier if not for the corny name. I placed an order online through their website. Oddly enough, there is no way to pay for your order online. You can either pay cash/card at pick up or have someone call you back for a credit card number. They have lunch bowl specials that are listed online as being $8.50, but when you pick up, you get charge more - I think $9.50 for vegetarian bowls and $10.50 for ones with meat. They have several different entrees available for the bowls, which are served on top of rice. We've only had the saag paneer and chicken saag, which are both good. I like that the meat on the chicken saag is always tender. I would not recommend the veggie naan wrap, which was completely underwhelming - mostly peas and carrots, with some cauliflower, and lettuce, wrapped in naan. I've been used to the frankies from Bombay Frankie, and this was pretty flavorless in comparison. Be sure to check out the wall of pics with the chef with various celebrities like Michael Jackson, Al Gore and Wolfgang Puck. We walk in on a weekend night a week ago and find the place dark and deserted with only one other table occupied. There was one waiter who could not have been more disinterested. Once he started taking order after flagging him down several times in an empty restaurant it became clear that his rudeness topped his disinterest. Ask about a dish he would say it is not available, then another not available. When we ask why he gives you the look of how dare you ask why? and muttered what do you mean why? He would not let us finish ordering and wanders off to another table while we are still talking to him. He had the grumpiest look on his face. The food arrived with our waiter literally throwing down the plates as he served. In spite of all this the food was not bad at all which earns it 1 star. It was the attitude of the waiter that made the whole experience unbearable. The owners will be well served to remove an unpleasant person to bring in more customers. I would never go again and put up with an attitude that he was doing us a favor by taking our order and serving food. On our way out I asked the people on the other table and they said this is the only waiter they have had for years and his attitude always sucked. Maybe he is overworked and underpaid. Most of this UCLA area Indian restaurant is standard Anglo-Indian curry house fare. That part is probably pretty good. I had their kheer and was very happy. But this is actually for many people from India a destination restaurant. A good friend from India who lives in Upper State New York insisted firmly that we come here. What is the issue? The street food. These are 9 items on a six page menu. The appeal for the Upper State New Yorker was that you could get street food without worrying about the perils of street food. Which is an issue both in Mumbai and in theory in L.A. I'm not so sure this is an issue in L.A. I come from Austin and we have all sorts of both brick and mortar establishments and food trucks that sell Indian street food. The chaat and pura taste perfectly wonderful - and no one I know has died from the snacks. I strongly suspect there are equally fine Indian snack trucks all over SoCal. But the pura at Bollywood Bites are perfectly lovely. My own personal vote is for the Pav Bhaji. This is mashed vegetables (heavy on the potatoes but with lots of other veggies in there too) all cut in with about 653 different spices. You get a small cereal bowl's worth of the stuff. And that small cereal bowl changes flavors constantly. The Bhaji actually changes flavors while sitting in your mouth. The more you mull over it, the more surprises you get. This is fine fine eating overall. If I was flying from Upper State New York to L.A., is this the one restaurant I would want to eat in? I am not so sure about that. I think you get a lot of bang for your buck if you come here during lunch and get the Thali special, which you get to choose an entree from a pretty decent list of options. This past time, I got the butter chicken thali lunch, which comes with salad, raita, rice, lentils, an entree, naan, and dessert (I think they forgot my dessert, but I don't care much). I walked home with it so it was kind of messy when I finally opened it up, but besides that it was great. I feel it is reasonably priced for the amount of food ($20 with tax). I went for the lunch special, which is an entree that comes with naan, rice, and a salad. I wasn't a big fan of the salad, it being just cucumbers, but the sauce it comes with is good. The Chicken Tikka is a bit mild, in terms of spice and in flavor, and the chicken itself is very dry. The rice is pretty dry as well. The naan bread was my favorite part, the outside being crisp and flakey while the inside was fluffy and tender. A friend got the garlic naan- definitely the superior option. The portion size for the lunch special is really good, and if you have a UCLA student id, there's a small discount. We ordered:- Samosas (2 quantity) $5.50- The samosas are nothing like they served on their food truck. Thats sad. Aloo matar $13.95- It tasted good. Kadai Paneer 13.85- The dish had less of paneer & more of curry. Nicely spiced. Chole bhatura $12.45- Authentically the chole are supposed to be brownish back in color with dark gravy which tastes yumm, which is not what they give. And the bhaturas were uncooked from inside. Ok ok. Garlic naan (2) $2.99- The naans were good not too thick unlike other places. Manchurian $15.45- We were laughing seeing the Manchurian dish, they basically fried cauliflower tater tots with mild to no gravy. We asked to make is spicy. The dish was bland. Please do not order it. Overall, the quantity does not match the price. Is it authentic Indian? Nope. The food was decent. I will try other Indian restaurants in the same area next time. read more

Trader Joe's frozen Indian food is more authentic than this...no seriously just get the lamb and garlic naan there. This is an overpriced, overhyped embarrassment that has been in the Westwood community insulting Indian taste buds for too long. The "famous" chef (Michael Jackson's former personal chef I had heard?) that started this place probably kept up with it only for the first year.... Maybe this place last served anything near good food at all was when the King of Pop was still alive.
