Excellent cooking class did awhile ago but still make the Indian curry recipe an add some chicken. Highly recommended

We got a sweet living social deal for an Indian food cooking class at Bolly Bears and it was an awesome experience. First, chef Erin is VERY patient when scheduling- I think I booked, canceled, and rebooked 4 times before a date finally worked out. Erin and Dan always return calls and work to get you in a class that fits your schedule :) Second, chef Heather exceeded my expectations for our class last Friday! She sprinkles in these awesome tidbits and facts about Indian cooking and encourages fun participation with guesses, and some of the meal prep. There's also some fun competition to go around and Heather keeps it really light. I enjoyed it so much my boyfriend and I will definitely be back for their Thai cooking class! We bought the spice pack (even though we are now armed with the knowledge of going out and buying our own spices now) and can happily report back that our *homemade* yellow curry turned out awesome! We added chicken, cauliflower, shredded carrots, green beans and ate with naan vs rice. Total home run. read more

We got a groupon for $39 which included a cooking lesson for both of us as well as the supplies for the meal. I enjoy drinking and cooking so appreciate that holly bears is BYOB. I'd recommend bringing some or if not there's a little wine shop two doors down that we picked up some local brews from. The class was interesting, I felt like I learned a lot! It's a group of less than 20 and you work towards making one meal to share together. Our instructor was super friendly and did a fine job incorporating everyone. She made it fun with little games and factoids. The meal itself was fine, it didn't contain any meats or proteins which some people weren't expecting, it was basically rice with the curry sauces and saag. I would recommend this for couples but also our group had parents with their kids and just groups of girlfriends. read more

The wheatgrass apple cider was delish! Saw lots of people walking around with it, and the customer in line behind me was very eager/enthusiastic to get his. Said it's the best thing they offer. (He also recommended the curry.) But I ordered a mango smoothie (with milk base) with tapioca bubbles. It was meh. Like, the smoothie was fine (though next time i'd probably get the juice base, b/c I'm just not a huge milk fan so I don't know what I was thinking) but the bubbles weren't very good. I think were undercooked, and definitely undersweetened. Ah well. Guess I'll just have to keep making them myself in my rice cooker. read more

I left a voicemail on 6/2, 6/15, and 6/20 and sent a Facebook message to the business on 6/21 trying to schedule a class to use a voucher which expires on July 1st. I have not gotten a phone call or a response via Facebook. When I scheduled the Thai class a few months ago I had to call twice over the course of about a week before I got a call back. In this case it's been almost 3 weeks. This is ridiculous. Has the company gone under? Did the phone number change and no one bothered to update it or change the voicemail greeting on the old one? Unless they are permanently closed I expect a refund for the voucher I am unable to use (as it is not my fault if we miss the expiration date at this point) or an extension-- if someone ever gets around to calling me back. I went to a Indian cooking class with a friend at Bolly Bears. I was a bit skeptical at first of the sparse space, lack of visible stoves, and general disorder. But our instructor got everything together and the class was really great! It was educational, interactive and most importantly, delicious. Instead of a stovetop, the teacher cooked in a large electric skillet. She involved the students in turn asking for volunteers to chop ingredients, add and stir or serve the goods. She explained, and quizzed us, on the variety of spices that go into the curry and gave helpful hints along the way. We ended up with 3 types of curry made from one recipe and took home a generous serving. I'd definitely go back and try the Thai or sushi classes. read more

I had a lot of fun at chef Erin's cooking class. We learned how to make three different Indian dishes during her hour and a half class. I feel pretty comfortable making Indian food after this class! This is a great date night idea! read more

My partner purchased a cooking class via Groupon at Bolly Bears with Chef Dan for my birthday. It was awful from start to finish. The class arrived and we sat at the dirty tables awkwardly waiting for Chef Dan to acknowledge us. He said nothing, just drank his juice, and even wiping off the tables...nothing. It was very uncomfortable. He looked stressed, overwhelmed, tired, and irritable. Throughout the cooking class he was condenscending, even making uncomfortable Indian stereotypes and offending a person who was Indian. Very rude person. There was a person who had an allergic reaction to chili pepper and he was VERY rude to her. Even called chef Erin on the phone and had an inappropriate conversation infront of us. I felt so bad for the young woman who had the allergic reaction. He continued to make jokes about her. Unprofessional. And he was not very knowledgeable about Indian food, just basic level. His interpersonal skills were terrible, which greatly impacted his public speaking skills. It was such a horrible experience. I've heard that Chef Erin is a joy to have as a cooking instructor. I would advise making reservations with her rather than the burntout, rude Chef Dan. In the end, we made a dish of curry. The food was okay, not great Indian food. Just basic and simple, but a step up than just learning on your own. Be aware of the Chefs. Seating is cozy. Food is okay. Chef Dan has issues. read more

We had an Indian cooking class today with Josh. I don't know what all the negative reviews are about. We had a great time. Josh was very knowledgeable and friendly. We thought the class was hands on enough, he asked us if we want to chop the veggies or stir the sauce while it is cooking. Honestly if I can't operate a stove or blender and that is your idea of hands on you should be in a high school home ec class. We were there to learn about Indian cooking, and Josh was more than capable of fulfilling our expectations. read more

I love Bolly Bears! My hubby and I took an Indian cooking class there a couple years ago, and we still make it all the time! However, that doesn't stop us from eating there while we're at Findlay Market! The only thing that would make me happier is actual naan instead of pita. read more

Recently had a cooking class via Groupon at Bolly Bears with Erin. Erin was very knowledgeable about Punjabi food cooking in the US and the authentic type in India. Over the 1.5hr course, the 12 of us in the class jointly made saag, tikka masala and a typical curry sauce. The only part that somewhat surprised me was that each individual does not make their own meal; the group makes one meal together. For the great price point via Groupon I would definitely recommend the Bolly Bears class. read more

Great date night idea! Had an Indian cooking class with Erin this past Friday and it was a great time. You sit around in a U-shaped table with other couples with the instructor in the middle and help assist with chopping the vegetables, stirring, etc. You get to try three different types of popular Indian dishes with rice at the end of your class. All classes are BYOB. The instructor was very knowledgeable about the different ingredients and told us where we could buy the ingredients ourselves. The class also comes with a DVD at the end so you're able to recreate the dishes if you forget anything during the class. read more
