Love Boiling Point! The first time I came out to LA, my friends brought me here because they said hotpot at this spot is really good. Boiling point is a chain with a number of locations in the LA area. They are quite different than the usual hotpot over the hotplate and raw ingredients on the side to toss into the broth. On the menu, there are many pots to choose from. All pots come arranged with vegetable and protein ingredients. The price is fairly cheap. $10-$15 a pot. There's a burner under the pot that consistently boils the pot while you eat and goes out just at the time when you're about done eating. Servers come around with a kettle in case you need more broth. My boyfriend ordered the lamb pot and I had the beef pot. On the table, they have garlic soy sauce and a chili paste for sauce. My boyfriend is alright with hotpot, he doesn't think there's anything special to it and gets tired easily. But he agreed that boiling point was good and he would definitely come to boiling point again. I just wish there was a boiling point in the east coast. If you love hotpot as much as I do, I highly recommend this place if you're ever in the area. Just a note, if you come during dinner time, expect a half hour wait. I was not impressed. This place is always packed, with TONS of people waiting. And now that I've finally tried it, I don't get the hype. It wasn't that good. I've passed up this place for a few years now, always opting for neighboring Bowl Thai or Northern Cafe (both are amazing!) to avoid the long wait at Boiling Point. I wanted soup since the weather has gotten colder, so we decided to endure the wait, about 40 mins. We tired the beef and the lamb options and added the pork filled fish balls. The broth on both were good along with the meat. But after the meat was gone we were left with so much other unimpressive "filler" stuff that we didn't really enjoy. I don't need to eat here again, and wasn't impressed with the food other than the meat. Skip the long line and go to Bowl Thai or Northern Cafe! read more

This is place is so dirty. The walls are disgusting, the bathroom i saw a dirty pad on the floor, and the sauces were sticky. At this place im glad they are temp. closed down because they need to deep clean this place. Number 5 lamb soup was delicious. I just love adding a little of the garlic soy sauce. The broth was very tasty and light. There are plenty of vegetables in the mix. The milk tea was pretty good, but I usually have it with no sugar or boba. So maybe my opinion on their tea is not the best if you love sugar. Plainly speaking, if I still think it's very good without sugar and boba then it must be good. The service was great! The staff is friendly and helpful with any questions. The taste is consistent with other Boiling Point locations, but the service is definitely on the slower side. It took a lot longer than normal for our food to come out, which was surprising because we came during an off-peak hour. The broth on my beef hot soup was really soothing and comforting. They managed to adjust the spice level exactly to my preference, which I always appreciate, considering I've had some bad experiences at other BPs where I asked for mild and literally got flaming spice! There's a few downsides, as it feels a bit cramped, there's only one bathroom, and the shared parking lot seems like it might be really problematic during busy times. (As of may 2017) Boiling point-- your typical Taiwanese hot pot the only difference at this chain being that all the toppings are already in the soup for you. Personally, I prefer this! This Soup always hits the spot, especially on a cold day. The Gardena location, which this review is for, is the smallest BP I have been to so be prepared to wait a little longer, especially during peak hours! I got the beef #4 soup, probably the most popular one. They changed this soup now because the lowest spice level u can get is the medium-- which has a strong kick compared to medium level spice at other Asian restaurants! Every soup has a variety of toppings, as you can see in the menu photos I have attached. You can also opt to get more toppings for an extra charge! You can also ask for more broth for no charge. (I did this to lessen the spice). For every hot pot, you can get either rice or noodles. A small amount of noodles are already inside the soup, keep this in mind! There are large and small size pots , but certain flavors for each. In other words you can't get certain flavors in a large sizes, and you can't get certain flavors in the small size. All the sauces on the side (pictures attached) are all super flavorful and yum but they all contain nuts except for the chili oil. Which brings me to my next point, a lot of the soups here contain nuts. If you have nut allergies, you can ask to take the sauce out of the broth! It changes the flavor of the soup a little but it's still good. The milk tea/ drinks here are good and always fresh. Probably one of the best milk teas I've had in my life. If you come here during lunch hours (11am-3pm) you can get a free tea drink! Would recommend this place ; you can't really go wrong with BP. read more

Ahhh Boiling Point, how I loved you in Irvine. When I found out there was a BP in the South Bay, I dashed over to get a fix of some delicious hot soup! I always stick to the beef soup and I remember it being as tasty as it was in Irvine, but imma keep it real with you chief the service needs a lot to be desired. We had a night out in Torrance near our home. I have not had a hot pot in a while. I think the last time I had it was on my birthday 2 years ago. I had a cream curry hot pot and my mom had a beef pot. My uncle had the seafood pot. I think mine was the best. It was so flavorful, savory and spicy. I really liked it. The hot pot goes well with rice. The boiling point does not sell alcohol fyi. But the pot itself is very delicious and they are generous with the portions too. You have to wait awhile when you go here though. read more

They have you order using their Clover POS system before dining in. I ordered a Curry Pot with Vermicelli noodles. When my order came it was a Creamy-milk pot. I asked the waiter if this was my order and he came out to read my order receipt and confirmed that's what I ordered. Not wanting to confrontational, I just accepted that maybe I accidentally clicked the wrong thing. I started eating it and noticed that there were no Vermicelli noodles. So either I'm horrible at reading and clicked the wrong button twice, or something is blatantly wrong with their POS system and you might not get what you actually want to eat. read more

Beef Hot Pot (#4) was good, you don't even need any sauce. I'd say I like this more than ramen now. I just wish they can have a yelp waitlist because the wait can get really long. We went here Saturday at 540pm and waited for an hour before we got a table. I expected the wait since it was peak dinner time. This location is the smallest Boiling Point I've gone to, it's always an ordeal getting a table and food in timely manner. I always feel rushed when I eat here, because it feels like they're pressuring you to hurry and finish so they can clear table and seat the next guests. Plenty of parking in the lot, although it can get busy and packed during peak hours. Usually the wait is pretty long when I've gone on weekends, there's other food places nearby to explore and benches in front to sit and wait. Food is consistent with other locations I've gone to, I always stick with the beef #4 and sometimes the special #1. Love their soups and condiments, always tasty and filling! Service here is good, they come around often to refill soup and check on us. I only usually come here when I'm in South Bay Area and am craving Boiling Point hot pot, as this is the only location around the area. read more

I'm writing this review because I am LIVID. The food was great and the service was great, BUT the one thing that I am EXTREMELY AGITATED about right now is the fact that my friend and I purposefully didn't finish our hot pots because we wanted to enjoy them again at home, so we got the remainder to go. Mind you, she lives over an hour away from me and OUR WAITER GAVE HER MINE AND GAVE HERS TO ME *CRYING*. She texted me freaking out saying she was about to eat hers, and noticed that it wasn't hers and ended up throwing it away because we probably won't be able to see each other for another 3 weeks (she threw mine away because she does not eat beef). I was so excited to wake up in the morning and eat my hot pot whilst I enjoy my Netflix, BUT I GUESS NOT *still crying*. My heart hurts and it's not because of heartburn from my Taiwanese hot pot. This is the pain of knowing that my perfectly good Taiwanese hot pot is now down the drain because our waiter gave us the wrong containers. It's not entirely his fault because we should have doubled checked, BUT I mean we kind of tend to have faith that our waiters will be at least some what attentive regarding our orders. If it weren't for the long wait, I think I would've given this place 4 stars but is waiting an hour really worth it? Hmm....I don't know about that. I have to admit, the hotpot dishes here are good and I do like that they have a wide variety of different broths and hotpot dishes. If you're hangry and its a cold rainy day...avoid this place because everyone and their mother will be here on a cold rainy day. If you can withstand the hour wait, then go for it. I think they need to figure out the logistics on how to efficiently seat people or something because I saw many party of twos at 4 seater tables which causes the wait to be so long. I LOVE Boiling Point & I really want to give this location 5 full stars. But the location here is so TINY. The wait is VERY long on peak hours, just like any other boiling point. But the wait is almost double other locations. If you're not sitting at one of the booths, the tables are extremely close to each other because there's no space for more tables here. The service here is amazing. There is always people walking around checking on all the tables. Parking is difficult during peak hours even if the lot is huge. read more

Quality wise this place is okay! The wait is VERY long though. The last time I went we waited for over an hour. I never waited an hour for hot pot before, and I'm not that big of a fan of hot pot but the other party loves it so I try to accommodate. Parking is busy during lunch hours as well, even at night; just pray you'll find a spot! Food wise, the food is good. I always order the Japanese Miso hotpot with rice. I'm satisfied with everything that comes with it and have no complaints. Other than that, just 1 star off for the super long wait, I could be already done with dinner and be doing something else in that 1 hour I've been waiting. But overall it's a good spot if you like hot pot and have A LOT of time on your hands (expect to wait 1 hour+ eat for 30-45 mins if you're a slow eater like me). read more

I honestly never knew about this place until a friend of mine recommended it and told me I had to try it with her one night after work. I was skeptical, having never had a hot pot before and didn't know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised and I have to say that I do love this place now. Service is always very slow and I've learned to accept it. No one has been rude, but I just don't expect fast service anymore. I'm thankful that they've finally invested in pagers for those waiting to be seated. You can also opt to give them your phone number, which periodically texts you and notifies you when you're almost going to be called. I really like that. Her and I only get the Japanese Miso. It's so flavorful and I love the combination of ingredients in it. My favorite is the tofu skin. Somehow, I always forget to order extra of it for my soup. Maybe I'll remember one of these days... I like that they offer to add more broth to your hot pot as you progress through your meal. Hot pots come with your choice of rice or noodles. They have an array of sauces on the table and I always use the garlic one. So yummy. *Oh, and I found out that when you come for lunch, your meal comes with either iced green tea or iced black tea! Usually the service is good but today it really made me uncomfortable. I'm not sure if the manager or owner has changed but the customer service went down hill. Food is always good. I usually come here every 2 weeks. Never had an issue before and staff is always on point. Today I put my hands out 6 times and waved lightly not to annoy the servers. But the server named Tee ignored me and my friend 6 times waiting to pay and get our leftover to go. He would come half way and then turn around everytime or avoid eye contact intentionally. And then after once made eye contact and then ran off again in the back chuckling with his pals in the corner on the other side of the store. So I finally asked the female server to help us and she was good about it. I informed her about the guy in the corner (Tee) ignored us. She then said she will let him know of my concerns. He then had a indirect idgaf vibe and kept pointing at me and my friend then laughed in the back corner with his workmates (males, not trying to be sexist) but that's what happened. I'm a store manager myself and service is key in hospitality. You shouldn't be pointing or laughing at your customer. I understand serving isn't easy but I was ignored multiple times with my friend. Light fixtures has hella dust layered all around it. One slight movement, touch, motion and all will sprinkle down into your food. Oh hot pot, my love for soup is endless! This location is no different from other BPs: small, crowded, great tasting food. One distinction though is the service. I ways get the lamb pot, mild with noodles, no seafood (aka the clam and fish cake). I love that you can also make different dipping sauces and there's even some recipes to go off of. Service though. I don't know if he was the manager or shift lead but one worker killed it for the other workers. The others were great but this guy looked like someone killed his dog. Super curt and rude to people waiting and purposely ignored peoples raised hands for another worker to finally spot people. It may not look like a lot of food compared to an AYCE hot pot place, but there is actually a fair amount of toppings in each pot that would fill you up. I came to Gardena today to get an oil change for my car at the local Honda Dealership and I decided to come across the street to this little plaza. When I got into the plaza there were so many choices to go with but I decided to go with the crowds and came to boiling point. There was a huge line of people just waiting to get into this place. So I went inside put my name in this automated texting machine and immediately got my text message that my table would be ready soon but with no real idea of what time it would take to get seated. We waited for about 45 minutes before we finally got notified, came back in and was coldly greeted by the host. We got sat all the way in the back by the restrooms and my wife noticed how filthy the booth was. The walls were covered in scuff marks and chili oil. The seats had a dirty utensils that werent picked up from the last guest. The table was sticky and not cleaned up at all. But despite all that I was still willing to give this place a chance. I told my wife to just cool it relax maybe we can get the waitress to clean the booth. It took ten minutes before our first waitress came over to the table and again this was the hostess who was very cold in the beginning. Again the coldness continued no interest in really giving us a real nice experience. I immedately asked if she could help us out and wipe down the table and the walls. She explained that is the way it is, I was like thats the way it is? with chili oil on the walls? shes like yea, I was shocked by her answer. I go well can you please clean it anyway she rolled her eyes and didnt give me a yes or no and walked away. We waited another five minutes and my wife said thats enough lets leave, so we left. So sad this place needs to be shut down, i hate to see what would come floating in our soup if they werent willing to clean up there dirty walls and tables for there guests. Environment: It's pretty tight in there when in comes to arms space at the table. Luckily it wasn't a busy evening. It didn't stop me from eating my delicious food. Service: 10/10 - Didn't catch a name..but our server/trainee were very helpful and fast. Sometimes my sister can be a little over the top and can ask for much & she was also sick. They did not hesitate to accommodate to her neediness, lol. Food: 9/10 - Flavors were on point. I always get #4 Beef Hot Soup every time with vermicelli. The guy who is supposed to check us in was named BRYAN. This guy is the rudest waiter i have ever met. We got a table for 11 and our number is C123. He asked us multiple time how many people is in our party and we repeated multiple time 11 people. After azking for 5 timez, he raised his voice and ask again how many people and so we raised our voice back to anzwer his rudeness 11 people again. He then asked what is your number. This guy has the audacity to tell us that he has been asking what our number is and we told him 11 people. We have 4 people inside and none of the time he ever asked us what number are we. Because of this altercation, he has let 5 party that came after us to sit first on purpose. When we asked him how long he just keep ignoring us. My aunt told him by the time we get our number that we are willing to do split table but now he told us we have to get a new number id we want to sit. First time eating here and it was actually pretty good! My boyfriend and I got the Beef and Taiwanese Spicy. Place was already packed when we arrived at 11am, be sure to beat the lunch rush. Service was good, Winnie and Daniel we're really nice but be sure to ask your server for an upgrade on your tea (black or green) to a larger size, only $1 charge. Sharing is a good option if your first timers, they refill soup if yu want more. Overall, great experience trying out for the first time. !WARNING! Taiwanese Spicy is REALLY spicy. I personally love spicy food, but this hot pot definitely took spicy on another level. I didn't even finish all of it! If you like spicy then this is definitely the one for you. read more
