I wanted a little more spice from my medium cajon boil and the potato to be a little more done otherwise on point. Our waiter placed the wrong order for our appetizer so we had the sampler instead of the shrimp. We were rewarded with spicy mayo sauce and calamari fried to perfection. This place is pretty sweet! They have delicious seafood options with a Louisiana feel, right in downtown Akron. I was worried when we walked in on a Friday night around 6 and the place was empty. The place really started to fill up by the time we were leaving though. I had never experienced a seafood boil before, so we went right for the boil combos. We ordered the Mussel combo which contained crab legs, mussels, shrimp, 1 piece of corn, sausage and 1 potato, and split it. There was still food left over, so it was pretty well worth the price in my opinion. You pick your own spice for the boil combos, but since it's southern cooking, even the Garlic Butter has a kick. The staff was super attentive and nice. They explained the boil "aspect" and how it would come. I would recommend this place for any seafood lover in Akron. It's not a place you come dressed up, but if you are looking for cheap, delicious seafood, this is the place to go! read more

Service and food were 5 star, no complaints there. We were not, however, told there would be a 10% automatic gratuity when given our bill and it is wrapped in with the tax total, so not incredibly clear to see. Then conveniently, at the bottom of both the check and the CC signing receipt, it list suggested tip amounts that reflect the entire bill, the already added gratuity being part of that. So it is very easy to tip way over 20%. Overall, we ended up leaving over $25 on a $75 tab. User error since I did not look closely enough. I would have to agree with the other reviews as it has a hint of bbq or teriyaki flavor to it. There were a lot of mussels which I was glad to have but I just think that they could've added more shrimp. I know on the menu it states 7 pcs. The corn tasted over cooked or old, which I couldn't even eat after the first bite. Sausage was good and there was plenty of it. Sushi was okay. I ordered the dragon roll and alaskan. It is over-priced for small portions. If you are looking for a medium to spicy seafood boil with corn and potatoes, don't go to the Boiling house. The medium and spicy sauces are weak and watery,the one little cluster of crab legs and boiled shrimp are tasteless, and 1/2 corn cob isn't seasoned or buttered either. My potato and boiled egg weren't even bagged. When I told the not-to-friendly server about that, she handed me an unseasoned egg and potato in a napkin which I had to throw in the bag. I much prefer two local similar restaurants, The King Crab and A-Plus Crab. Their seafood boiling bag comes with way more crab legs, shrimps, and other seafood too in a rich buttery, spicy or med, or mild sauce. The potatoes, corn, and eggs are delicious and seasoned in the bag. The King Crab even gives you free seafood bread and it is to die for! Every year I get crab legs for my birthday and this year I decided to try the Boiling House. The restaurant is kind of an asian/cajun mix with a good mix of seafood and non seafood dishes available. We started with an order of corn fritters based on Yelp recommendations, and they were delicious! Next we ordered our crab legs. When you order crab legs, you get to pick a seasoning and that seasoning is mixed with butter and the crab legs are then boiled in a bag full of this mixture. I opted for garlic butter and it was messy but good. Because of the crab legs being boiled in butter, they are very slippery and messy, but the restaurant does provide gloves and bibs if you want them. I really enjoyed my meal, but next time I think I will just get plain butter because the garlic was pretty overpowering. I also would have liked if they had better crab leg tools, but overall it was a great meal and I would definitely go back! read more

The boiling house kind of confused me. I didn't realize it was a fusion. Ordered the house special shrimp with potatoes, corn, and sausages (all have to be ordered separately). Also, sushi .. The menu has a combination of both. My seafood boil tasted very teriyaki like, I didn't get spice. It was kind of surprising but tasty. The sausages were flavored well, the shrimp just seem like it has been bought in a frozen bag from the store and then cooked - not fresh. The sushi was extra heavily breaded. Inside and out. Service was attentive and pleasant. The bibs and plastic gloves were a nice touch. Lots of IPA's and craft beers. And specialty drinks. We met up with some awesome friends that love seafood as much as we do last night to try a new place. We all ordered a variety of seafood. I started with a seaweed salad ( I've never even tried it before) that was surprisingly amazing. For my entree I ordered peeled shrimp and a lobster tail cajun extra spicy. It was fresh and fabulous(better than anyplace we've been,even in Maryland) My hubs ordered 2 pounds of king crab legs and an order of mussels in the cajun medium and it was so good. He has declared this our new go-to for seafood. The waiter Thon was excellent, and never missed a beat. A really great place with really great service. After dinner we ordered drinks, my hubs wanted the Blue Hawaii and requested that it be served as a frozen drink. The manager made it herself and knocked it out of the park!!! Later as we were sitting at the bar we watched as the chefs rolled and plated the sushi that looked like works of art. Me and my wife go here every anniversary we've been doing it for years we've also been there a total of seven total times and every time until this time was amazing our server was normally Thun, And we enjoyed it. This time I brought my wife my four-year-old daughter and my 19-year-old son for our fifth anniversary and in the process of the whole experience we ordered sushi rolls as an appetizer and got them after our main course was served I ordered sausage in my plate and I received none the crab legs were soggy and literally you got nothing out of them by the time you took five minutes per leg to try to dissect them I complained to our server Tiffany she said sushi night slow cooks, not once did she try to fix or adjust our bill or compensate us for our lack of service and lack of professionalism. My wife went to the bathroom with my 4yr old to go potty and the sinks were overflowing and so was the trash I told that to the greeters and she told me to talk to my server as she was the owner I then brought it to my service attention and she said oh I'm so sorry she had no sympathy, no apology, no type of I apologize that your experience was not well-suited for a normal establishment. The food isn't that good it is a great experience and that's what I'm typically paying for is the food and the experience this time was zero when you spend $150 you expect the server who is the owner to compensate and take care of you if she notices that things are subpar I even called and she said oh I'm sorry that what you wanted to hear like I was somehow wrong for feeling some type away. read more

If you're traveling through Akron or live there you must give this place a try. This is hands down the best restaurant experience my wife and I ever had. We drove 45 mins to try it out and it was well worth it! The food was outstanding and in big portions! Our server, Be, was absolutely wonderful! Very nice to us and every other table we saw him service. The assistant owner, I didn't get her name, had such a genuine smile and gladly talked to us a bit before we left. She was so bubbly and seemed to truly love her job and be interested in us and our story. Not to mention, there was an event going on in town so we had no parking and she went out of her way to make us a custom parking spot. I've never had any place do that for us. Before we left, after our meal, Be came over to us and asked if we drink alcohol, we did not have any with our meal, and we said yes so he brought us a free mixed drink. Just an incredible time overall. We will most definitely be back soon and suggest everyone give this place a try! That's what I was treated to this evening in downtown Akron at this godforsaken restaurant. $100 later I walked out $100 poorer and completely unfulfilled, ready to order a pizza to get some real food inside my body. Be forewarned if you go here and you order À la cart seafood it will come in a plastic bag drenched in grease. Do not do this if you want to have any semblance of a decent meal. Having traveled and lived all over the country, we were skeptical when we learned there was a Cajun style restaurant in Akron. I mean for the most part the Akron dining scene is usually meat and taters and something fried beyond recognition, many times it's all three fried beyond salvage. The restaurant is in the middle of town, so parking can be a challenge, it is Wheelchair accessible as well as nicely set up and decorated. We started with fried cheese and edamame, the cheese was perfect and the edamame steamed and salted nicely, a bit more and spicier sauce for the cheese would have been nice, but that's a quibble. For lunch we had the Combo 1, crab legs, crawfish and shrimp boiled with red potatoes, corn on the cob and sausage. We started with mild cajun seasoning since we didn't know what to expect, it was nice but not overpowering, a good bite for a novice cajun food eater. Crab, shrimp and mudbugs were cooked nicely, to nitpick they were a bit overcooked, but most folks wouldn't have noticed, the corn, potatoes and sausage were perfect, the only thing that would have made it more authentic would be artichokes and whole garlic cloves. We will be back, it's as close to Louisiana food as you'll get in Akron. They are opening a sushi bar, so we will be back to check it out as well. read more

Check out this place with a friend last Saturday. It wasn't busy but the service was kinda slow but our waiter was cool. They quickly got our drink orders and gave us time to decide on our meals. We tried 3 different orders of sushi's, had raw oysters, and 2 combo 2 with different seasoning. Overall it was decent definitely nothing to write home about and I did enjoy the meal. I just went to the Boiling House for the first time today to try out their 1/2 priced sushi (every Tuesday). It was hands down the best sushi I have had in awhile -- right in Downtown Akron! I tried Boiling House for the first time at their previous location near the old Rolling Acres Mall and my first experience was amazing! My most recent experience at the new Downtown Akron location...not so much. I ordered the Combo #1 with crab legs, shrimp, and crawfish. To my disappointment, most of the seafood bag consisted of crawfish that was not fresh and overcooked. The house juicy seasoning was pretty tasty but you can't mask spoiled seafood with seasoning. My Husband and I shared a Calamari Appetizer. It was a bit greasy for my Taste. We shared a Combo of Shrimp, Clams, Crablegs and Sausage in a medium spicy broth. Clams and Shrimp were great. First time trying this place with high hopes based on other reviews. Arrived at 8:05 pm on a Sunday. No one ahead of us waiting for tables, so figured we'd get seated quickly with only a party of four. There were several open tables just waiting to be bussed. A large party at one table already eating and two other smaller parties waiting to order. However, no one greeted us or seemed interested in acknowledging us. Servers walked by and ignored us or told us we would have to wait. We stood around for twenty minutes before finally getting seated but the waitress didn't give us menus and seemed confused as to what she was doing. The waitress stopped after taking only half of our orders and asked if we wanted refills on our drinks, then seemed surprised that we were not done ordering. She kept forgetting my order but didn't write anything down, so go figure. The sweet tea was very good, so I remained hopeful that the food would be worth dealing with the poor service so far. And the chef delivered on that front without question despite the waitress forgetting to put in our appetizer order. The Cajun style crab combo #1 was superb.
