We were here for dinner. The restaurant on weeknight does not have customers. We were the only one. It is kind empty for week nights. The order is very straightforward with the tablet and send to kitchen. The first appetizer was came out without much of wait. We got the Hunan style stinky tofu. They are different than Taiwanese style. The tofu is black and fried and top with chili sauce. It is interesting dish. We got the green pepper boiled fish sauerkraut noodles. The fish is good but the entire dish is ruin due to high concentrations of salt. It is difficult to east. The fish itself is also marinated with salt. Soup base is salty. This not good for high blood pressure patients. Even that I am normal person, I could not take it either. We left half of the bowl not touch. read more

Boiled Fish is an extremely interesting Sichuan Chinese restaurant near Sand Lake. If you've never had Sichuan food, you might be surprised at the intense sour, spicy, and numbing flavors of their signature soups but if you are familiar I think this will fit the bill. We came on a Friday evening and were effectively the only people in the restaurant. You order on a tablet at the table, which I will say was a little grimy. They were out of many of the menu options and the only fish option was Sea Bass, which is fine but did push the price up. The space itself was very modern and clean except for the aforementioned ordering tablet. The restaurant is in a strip mall that has plenty of parking. We ordered a small Laotan and a Golden soup which come with a side of vermicelli or rice. The portion size is massive, which was great. It's a bowl of pure fish and veggies as the noodle is on the side and is plenty for two people to share with an appetizer or other dish. The soups themselves are incredibly flavorful. Sour, salty, spicy. There are a ton of chilis and peppercorns piled on top of the soup - be warned that you shouldn't eat these and if you're not careful they can easily take over the dish. This happened to my dining partner and if I went back I would request fewer, or even none. The fish is cut in a way that makes for a very satisfying bite and is very flakey and absorbs the soup flavor very well. The service here was interesting. Despite being the only customers in the restaurant, we were acknowledged a total of two times - once when we arrived and once when the food arrived and then never again. Overall, Boiled Fish has food and flavors that were totally new to me that made for a fun experience. The portion was huge and the flavors unique. We came in around noon on a Saturday and the place was completely empty. They have ample seating. This place seems to be self service so you order on a tablet and pay on the tablet but a server still comes to your table for assistance or questions. While we were eating, another couple came in, but the worker started chatting with someone she knew and completely ignored them for about 15-20 minutes, even after they waved and said "excuse me." We had to wait a while too just to get our to-go containers because of that same conversation. I know it's self service but you still expect some level of attentiveness, especially with only two tables occupied. We ended up getting our togo containers by getting up and asking her ourselves. As for the food, it was just okay. I got the Szechuan boiled fish, not the best I've had, but not the worst either. Cool concept and nice to see something like this in the area, but honestly, I'd rather drive to Orlando for a better version and more generous portions. I recently visited Boiled Fish for dinner and tried the Golden Soup Boiled Sauerkraut Fish with Veggies at the recommendation of my server. There were a lot of positives about this dish: the Sea Bass was nicely flakey, bean sprouts were crisp, noodles were soft and savory and the broth was nicely spicy. However, my server also warned me not to eat these little seeds in the soup since they tend to have an unpleasant flavor. I tried one out of curiosity, and yep, it was not good. It tasted like strong cleaner and slightly numbed my mouth. So, I worked my way around these seeds. Unfortunately, this was a major pain. Every few bites I would accidently get one of these seeds tangled in the noodles or veggies and would completely ruin the bite. Apparently this is a new restaurant that opened just for a few months and yet it's getting such excellent reviews. It's in a strip mall and rather small inside. However, it looks bright and clean inside. The waitress spoke to us in Mandarin. She's quite friendly and gives a good description of some of the items on the menu. We ordered the Green Beans with Eggplants, Pork and a Boiled Fish. Every dish is smothered in chilli, shredded or cut up. The food here is genuinely Sze Chuen which means it'll be spicy. We started with the fried gyoza, cucumber salad, black fungus in vinegar, and lotus root strips. All were good.
