    2025 (mobile) vs 2024 (office) scans

    In 2024, I got my first scan at the Santa Clara office location. It was fast, and the quality report looked good as far as I could tell. I was happy and recommended the service to others. In 2025, I decided to get another one ~1 year after. This time, I went to the mobile location in San Jose near Valley Fair. This time around was very disappointing for multiple reasons. 1) Scheduling: About a week before my originally scheduled scan, my appointment was canceled. I rescheduled for the following week. While driving to that appointment, I got a text that said they're running behind and that I should reschedule if I was in the time crunch. Fortunately, I had the time to keep with the visit. There was some delay when I arrived, but not too bad. 2) Image Quality: This is the main issue. The quality of the scan (I'll share the images). The scan images from this year compared to last were a night and day difference. The latest images from the mobile location were blurry and pixelated. I downloaded them both from the same means, the "Images over time" on their website. The new image just looks so bad... Apparently, mobile is NOT the way to go. In hindsight, it makes sense that the environment of a mobile van is not great for sensitive equipment. When I was getting the scan, I could feel the van moving slightly as the arm made its way down. The reason I wanted to get DEXA is for the quality of the results, and if that's compromised, then it defeats the purpose for me. Now I question the findings of the report. I did gain a few percentage points in body fat year, yet my visceral fat went down. That's fine by me, but now I wonder if that's true. I've contacted support about this issue, and it was communicated to me that the results are good and the difference is due to different models of scanners. I'm not satisfied with this response. Based on this, I would rate the Santa Clara location a 2/5 and the mobile 1/5 (don't bother).

    Came in today for a DEXA scan after booking an appointment online a few weeks ago. Those Instagram ads led me to discover this place. Happy that there's a brick-and-mortar in Santa Clara now. While the place wasn't busy and I was scanned on-time, I'd recommend arriving at least 10 minutes earlier than your slot because the entrance is a bit hard to find. When you navigate via Google Maps and enter the park, look for that black LINK sign and drive all the way down to get to the front entrance. Or if you're directionally challenged like myself, you can circle until you see the 2328A entrance where FEDEX is, enter through the side entrance and find the Bodyspec back entrance. You just take a seat when you get there. The attendant wipes down the machine, instructs you onto the machine, and you lay there for about 10 minutes, fully clothed, extra layers removed. The guy that scanned me was super chill. Talked me through the process the whole time, was very knowledgeable, and made me feel comfortable. It's a super casual and lax process. There's no extra sales pressure or anything. Just in and out. You get the report sent to your online dashboard in about an hour. There's a ten minute delay between the email notification and the report being available. Definitely will be going monthly scans at the current $40 rate. You get pretty good data back to track your progress. He mentioned the body fat % is slightly higher to other methodologies because it tracks everything from your head to your feet. Online articles say it's roughly a 5% deviation. 5/5, see ya next month and congrats on the opening.

    Had the most amazing experience with body spec! I had previous scans before in their vans (while a little sketch at first as it was a white van in a parking lot) great quick experience! I was excited to go to one of their storefront. Staff were super friendly upon entering! I had Randolph do my scan and he was fantastic! Got my results within minutes after finishing my scan.

    Very friendly staff, welcomed when I arrived. I watched the video online about finding the building which was very helpful since I did not want to risk being late. Kyra gave me recommendations on when to book since many people tend to book their quarterly scans at the beginning of the year in January. The scan was fast and the facility is clean and inviting. I highly recommend coming to this location.

So, remember when I said nothing is perfect, so now some constructive criticism of what can be improved upon. I completed my on-line registration, and it went well. However, the staff doesn't review the paperwork? It stated clearly I'm claustrophobic, but I was scheduled for a closed MRI. I arrived, and I had to be rescheduled. The receptionist was professional and kind, and she was able to reschedule me for that evening. I went home and returned in the late evening. With the day coming to a close, the waiting room felt sterile, cold and eerily quiet and desolate, like out of a horror movie. But as soon as Bardia called my name, I stepped into a different world. A WORLD I loved and didn't want to leave. Thank you Bardia! You are a blessing to SimonMed. Lastly, the report was received promptly by my physician.

The first problem was an endless stream of voicemails and text messages urging me to make an appointment to get the exam scheduled! (WTH?!?!?) In the meantime, the pre-exam forms asked a lot of redundant questions. Then, there were the prep instructions, which included the impossible-to-fulfill one to wear 100% cotton underwear. (How would 100% cotton underwear stay in place without any non-cotton elastic?!?) Today was the end of the road. First, they sent me an email saying my appointment had been rescheduled from 10:45 to 11:15. Granted, that's only a half-hour delay but where do they get off rescheduling an appointment without talking to the patient first?!? They're acting like an airline, not a medical services provider! So, I took action! First, I called them up to complain about the redundant messages requesting that I get the appointment scheduled. They claimed they had two accounts open for me, each with a different spelling of my last name. (Couldn't their software detect that the phone number was identical for both accounts?!?) They claimed they'd merged the accounts now so all should be well going forward. A few minutes later, I called back to make sure I was really going to get an open MRI instead of a closed one, which I had been mentioning since I was in my doctor's office. The first person I spoke to said my appointment had been cancelled! The next and last Simon Med person to whom I spoke was somebody in scheduling. He said my appointment was still on (and he didn't know why any of his colleagues would have told me it was cancelled), for the new time they'd emailed me about this morning. He again stressed the importance of wearing only 100% cotton underwear. At that point, I decided to look at the Yelp rating for the Santa Clara facility and decided not to subject myself to anymore Simon Med Imaging incompetence! If they can't handle scheduling, messaging, and information-gathering, how could they possibly be good at imaging?!?

    Hmmmm...you would probably never come here unless you had to. And even when my oral surgeon said I…read morehad to (or really should), I debated. The imaging services provided here aren't typically covered by dental insurance plans. And even if there is a slight chance that they are, this place does not provide insurance billing services - meaning, you have to pay out of pocket and handle insurance reimbursement on your own. I needed to get a high resolution CT scan of my mouth to see how close my nerves were to the roots of my wisdom teeth. Basically, if they were really close, there was a chance the nerve could get damaged and I would lose sensation in my chin. Random, yes, but also quite unsettling. So, I end the debate and decide on getting the $395 CT scan. As I walk in, I notice that the facility is quite dated and there is only a single lady behind the front desk. She spoke quite muffled, but when she said "We don't deal with any insurance!" it seemed to resonate the entire waiting room. She wasn't exactly pleasant and as I began to reconsider my hefty investment in this CT scan, I hear her typing on a 1945 Typewriter. Ummmm...please, front desk lady, I hope you'll use the $395 to upgrade to the 90's with something that at least has a monitor. The actual scan wasn't that bad. I just had to hold still for about 18 seconds. The x-ray tech was really nice and helpful. He showed me how my images turned out and explained what would happen before they send the final product over to my oral surgeon. All in all, he was a great guy. Pluses for the friendly x-ray tech but minuses for the archaic ambiance and the not-so-welcoming front desk lady = just an average review.
