Hope D.

I've taken two classes here so far and I absolutely love it. The staff and instructors are so sweet and welcoming. The LED lights and music are motivating! I've bought the 5 pack of classes and will continue coming.

Been here a few times now. Both through MINDBODY and ClassPass. Super convenient location in downtown San Mateo, there is street parking and also a parking garage nearby. The girls here have always been super nice. Being new to Pilates / reformer based workouts, it was a welcoming environment. It's not easy, and you will feel sore tomorrow! Great workout and the instructors will walk by and help with adjustments if needed. During the class they'll offer different modifications based upon skill level and even demo the moves.

Love Pilates and this studio is beautiful and huge! I attended through ClassPass and I love how they have such a huge studio and ample showers. The instructor was very good at challenging the class and everyone was getting the good shakes. These classes are about 50 minutes long and I love building strength here. This is in the heart of downtown San Mateo so there's plenty of food and drink options after your class.

Went to a 530am with Gabi and died but had a blast! Was sore the next day in the best way. I will go back for sure. I did go in early because it was my first time and that made things sooooo much smoother!!

The workouts are challenging and always changing and you don't get bored. I get bored really easily so that's saying something. However the most impressive part of this gym is Ami and the coaches. It sets this F45 from the other F45's I've been to (from London to Chicago to NYC to SoCal). There is a sense of community and everyone is rooting for each other and the coaches drive that. On top of that the coaches know how to motivate you regardless of your fitness level so you should not hesitate to give it a try. Even when I think I have nothing left they can get more out of me and I love the push! I've worked out all my life in some way, shape or form but the intensity and levity combo at this gym make it hard to go do anything else. I'm not a gym person in general but I really enjoy getting my workout in here. Again, it is the coaches and Ami who really make this a place that is worth continuing to go to.

I showed up 5 minutes early and instead of focusing on onboarding or safety, the staff prioritized forcing me to create a marketing account and hand over my email before class. Nobody asked about **my knee pain** or offered workout modifications like Basecamp or Burlingame Fitness did. I was thrown into a dark room mid-class with no idea where my station was, what weights to use, or even how to start(!) the treadmill, while the oversized class made it impossible for the instructor to notice I was struggling. I had to stop multiple times just to change weights and restart. Change and restart. In the end, I lost the class credit and time. The whole experience felt like corporate lead-generation and profit mattered far more at Barry's than the safety and success of new members.

The workouts are varied and challenging. Each day of the week is dedicated to a different part of the body (legs, upper body, core, etc.). The coaches are motivating and great at both correcting form and offering variations for moves that may be difficult for people with knee or other issues. Shout out to Coach Euni! Her classes are always the most intense and leave me feeling spent in the best possible way! The front desk staff are incredibly friendly and make an effort to learn your name so they can greet everyone personally. Great gym! Highly recommend!!

The front desk was hopping between assisting members and giving us tours. Mind you I arrived 30 minutes early only for one of the front desk girls to get us started THREE minutes before the class was supposed to start. To top it all off they didn't mention what number I was so I went into the class not knowing where to start. In addition, they put me on a rower that didn't have an IPad connected to it so the instructor had to run and grab one. The moment she put it on and connected it my heart rate monitor wasn't connected. It was such a shit show and it wasn't the instructor's fault at all. The instructor actually tried really hard to calm me down and make sure I was setup. She was very nice so no complaints with her. I woke up early for this and literally wasted almost 45 minutes of my day. I literally walked out and gave the heart rate monitor back to the front desk. They could see I was distraught. It was just a complete disappointment and waste of time. There needs to be better training or more staff to help with the peak days and hours. My BIG feedback is to have one front desk person focus on the intro members and the other focus on current members. This whole ordeal made me not want to join Orangetheory at all. What's even worse is that I live like three blocks away and was hoping to find something within walking distance. The search continues.

Long overdue shout out for OTF San Mateo!…read more Great coaches at this location! Coach Sophia gives clear instructions, and always takes the time to correct my form on the weight floor -- even while she's running the rest of the class and keeping everyone on track. Those small moments of individual attention (even if it's just 30 seconds) make such a big difference. It's little things like that , that keeps me coming back and recommending OTF to others. Coach Doug is also excellent, especially on the treads. He brings energy to all the classes. He keeps the workouts fun and engaging with music trivia and gives great advice on staying in the right heart rate zones. I honestly hate running, but he somehow makes the time fly by! The front desk team deserves just as much credit. Nicole is so kind, hardworking, and always goes above and beyond. She helped my daughter fix an issue with her account--even though San Mateo isn't her home studio. Kevin was also super helpful when my husband was on the fence about joining. He followed up, offered a second trial class, and took the time to explain the membership options so my husband could find the best fit for his schedule. He was informative without being pushy. And finally, JR, the manager, is always friendly and approachable. I work downtown, so this studio's location is perfect for me. Highly recommend OTF San Mateo -- great coaches, great people, and an overall fantastic community!

But unfortunately, the experience with their policy and customer support has been frustrating enough that I'm seriously reconsidering coming back. I've been dealing with a prolonged illness, and per their own policy, clients with symptoms are not allowed to attend class (which I fully respect). But when I reached out to explain my situation, I was only given a two-week extension -- no flexibility, no empathy, just a firm deadline. When I tried to use the remaining classes before expiration, I did not show up due to a worsening cough at the day of class-- again, trying to be responsible and follow their rules. I then received a late cancel/no show warning email, which said I'd normally be charged an extra $15 fee on top of the class I already paid for, just for being too sick to attend. Although the fee was waived this time, the tone of the message and the overall approach felt more like a punishment system than a client-centered one. The policy is confusing, rigid, and completely lacking in support for people dealing with health issues. It left me feeling discouraged and unwelcome -- not something I expect from a wellness studio.

They don't have a reception area so I was a little lost walking in but I just followed what everyone else was doing. The workout itself was fine. Compared to the classes I took in the past I didn't find the instructor to be helpful. When I got home I got an email about my bill from Pilates V which was a charge for grip socks which I did not purchase. I ended up reaching out to management for a refund. There was a couple back and forth with the emails where I had to reach out for updates. It did become a bit frustrating because I didn't talk to the instructor at all but was told that the instructor said it was me that purchased. In the end I received my refund which I was thankful for however I feel like this could have been solved in a more efficient way. I ended up not using the rest of the Groupon classes but it's a loss I would rather take than take more classes.
