I really wanted to like Pilates V -- the classes themselves were decent, and the instructors I met were kind. But unfortunately, the experience with their policy and customer support has been frustrating enough that I'm seriously reconsidering coming back. I've been dealing with a prolonged illness, and per their own policy, clients with symptoms are not allowed to attend class (which I fully respect). But when I reached out to explain my situation, I was only given a two-week extension -- no flexibility, no empathy, just a firm deadline. When I tried to use the remaining classes before expiration, I did not show up due to a worsening cough at the day of class-- again, trying to be responsible and follow their rules. I then received a late cancel/no show warning email, which said I'd normally be charged an extra $15 fee on top of the class I already paid for, just for being too sick to attend. Although the fee was waived this time, the tone of the message and the overall approach felt more like a punishment system than a client-centered one. The policy is confusing, rigid, and completely lacking in support for people dealing with health issues. It left me feeling discouraged and unwelcome -- not something I expect from a wellness studio. read more

Was excited to try Pilates again so I was excited to find a Groupon of Pilates V. I've done Pilates in San Diego before so I was excited to do it again. They don't have a reception area so I was a little lost walking in but I just followed what everyone else was doing. The workout itself was fine. Compared to the classes I took in the past I didn't find the instructor to be helpful. When I got home I got an email about my bill from Pilates V which was a charge for grip socks which I did not purchase. I ended up reaching out to management for a refund. There was a couple back and forth with the emails where I had to reach out for updates. It did become a bit frustrating because I didn't talk to the instructor at all but was told that the instructor said it was me that purchased. In the end I received my refund which I was thankful for however I feel like this could have been solved in a more efficient way. I ended up not using the rest of the Groupon classes but it's a loss I would rather take than take more classes. read more

I was introduced to Pilates reformer when my girlfriend was getting certified (I was her guinea pig). That was over 10 years ago. I've always wanted to take classes and was introduced to Pilates V in Nov. I took advantage of their introductory unlimited offer. One month for $149. I went 28 of the 31 days offered. I'm hooked! I absolutely love it. The V2 classes challenge my core while the restorative class just brings me to a relaxing, meditative place. The instructors are amazing and very patient, correcting me when I'm out of form. I decided to continue with their unlimited monthly offering. I go almost every day. I'm over 60 and it has really helped with my flexibility and strength. My doctor recommended this and I haven't looked back. read more

I've been coming to Pilates V for almost 5 months now! It's truly been a life changer for me, especially bc I have a herniated disk in my lower back. I used to do heavy lifting, including leg pressing 600+ lbs on a hack squat leg press machine (which didn't help my back). Didn't know I had as serious as I did back issues until last year, followed by depression that made it difficult to get back into exercising. I wanted to try low impact exercises to help strengthen my back and core to help with the back pain I was having. Being in a group setting vs solo working out has definitely helped me stay motivated with Pilates. I work 12 hour night shifts as a nurse, and I'll go to an early morning class once I'm off. On off days I may double up and do 2 hours of classes and I leave feeling great! Multiple instructors to choose from and different levels of difficulty as you gain more experience. Weight loss wasn't my first priority, but over time with intermittent fasting and a diet change I've managed to lose 15 lbs! If you haven't tried Pilates before I always recommend just trying it out to see how you feel after. You'll learn more about how different parts of your body can be strengthened (muscle groups you probably didn't even know needed strengthening), and find yourself in a community of ppl who are looking to be strong too! I have been coming to this studio for nearly a year and their classes and instructors have transformed my idea of fitness. All the instructors bring a different approach to their classes so there's something for everyone! I absolutely love Chelsea's classes and take hers the most. She really takes the time to focus on getting into the right mindset and doing the small movements that matter the most to pilates. Chelsea is also very hands on with her students and will correct you to make sure you're getting the most out of your workout. I've been having back pain for the longest time due to my computer work and Eddie has helped me overcome my back issues including whole body and mind well being. She correct the students if needed. She's passionate about Pilates and you can see it in her teaching where she helps students to target their health goals. If you want a killer abs burner Darin is the person! Tried this out, took the intro class for new clients. I got a really grumpy and rude vibe from the instructor (won't use her name) all I will say is that the only thing I learned from this class is to bring socks... everyone in the class seemed annoyed. During the end she started to pretend to be nice just seemed insincere. Won't go back unless they add more instructors so I can skip this one. Update- Really nice woman Catlin called to follow-up. Apparently more instructors have been added, I assume sometimes you get a good instructor sometimes not. She offered to try again, which was very nice. read more

I love Pilates V. All instructors I met here are amazing. Pilates V San Mateo studio is beyond expectation. Always clean and welcoming. Joining unlimited to attend Darin's class was the best decision I've made last year. I've been suffering from hormonal problems and thyroid issues. I've been having hard time controlling my weight and feeling low energy for a long time. After going to Darin's classes 4-5 times per week for about 8 months, I've lost over 10 lbs. My headache from neck pain, back pain is gone and my bad knee is better. Darin's class is challenging, I feel sore most of the time, but it definitely makes me stronger. She's experienced and passionate about various kinds of training, fitness and exercise. I love when she demonstrates the movements to show us and explain which part of the body we're supposed to use. This helps us understand exactly what to do during each movement. She makes sure each and every student learn and be challenged(not wasting their time during classes) according to their level. Very inflexible with the policy for free trial of the introductory class. I attempted to create account and sign up for the free intro class a few times, but life circumstances didn't work out and I had to cancel them but always on-time. Now I'm ready to try again and they keep marking the free pass expired without explaining what the problem is until I called to clarify. Even then they remained inflexible. I'll take my money elsewhere. My advice: Pilates is not cheap and if your customer is trying to see if that's something they want to pay for on an ongoing basis, work with them instead of against them. read more

I decided to try Pilates V on a whim and was so glad I did! It was my first time trying reformer pilates and wanted to change up my workout routine. I became hooked and had been taking classes regularly for over a year, and really loved all the instructors: Chelsea, Eddie, and Darin! I love how each instructor has their own style of teaching and focus. Chelsea always brought great energy and loved getting feedback throughout the V2 class from her - this was my go-to! TRX with Eddie is great when wanting to experience a different type of physical challenge and work muscles you didn't even realize were there. Darin is a great motivator and kicks your butt with a more fitness-approach to pilates. Classes are pretty easy to book as well. You will notice popular classes/times may book up a few days in advance sometimes, but you can add yourself to the waitlist or book earlier and you shouldn't have an issue. Overall, I loved all the instructors and felt like each class was quality time for my mental and physical health. I'm sad to have moved out of northern california and am no longer able to go to this studio but would highly recommend to anyone interested! read more

I can't say enough good things about this place. It has changed my life. Darren is the best instructor on the planet. She is tough and encouraging at the same time. I have FSHD, a form of muscular dystrophy, so I have some back issues and had gained some weight and was losing muscle mass. I started at Pilates V last September and have lost almost 50 pounds and my muscles are back and my core is strong. Even on days when my body was not feeling it , Darren guided me through the class and kept me going. She really pushes the most out of me which I love. I've never felt so strong. They are careful to explain posture and positioning for each movement, making adjustments for individuals who have physical challenges. Pilates V has fantastic instructors (referring to the teachers mentioned below). I started with Monica and Janelle 8+ months ago (still love their classes!) and regularly attend Janelle's, Monica's, Giselli's, Selena's and Cecilia's classes. I love coming to class, as the instructors are very helpful, knowledgeable and kind. A few of my favorite classes: TRx - Selena, Cecilia, Janelle Fit - Monica, Camilla Mixed - Janelle, Sarah G., Monica, Rhonda Barre - Sarah G. V3 - Giselli San Mateo and Willow Glen branches are always clean. Sunnyvale, not so much. Parking is convenient in all branches. Love the online booking system. I recently moved to San Mateo and heard they opened a new location not too far from me. My first class (v0 Intro) was taken in Campbell a few months earlier, so I wasn't sure if they would still be able to honor the "new client" deal for me. Fortunately, they allowed me to take advantage of the deal and the rest is history! I initially purchased a one month pass to help me lose some weight and get toned for a trip the following month. Yet after taking a few classes, I fell in love. That being said, I decided to commit to a 6-month VIP Unlimited pass! We all know how extremely hard it is to find a routine that works. Since this is the one thing that has worked for me, I didn't hesitate to spend the extra money. I definitely think it's worth it. Pilates V provides a variety of classes (mixed-level, TRX, jumpboard, etc.) allowing you to target different areas of the body. It's hard for me to do my own workouts at home, so it's great that these classes sort of just do it for you (well the amazing instructors help you do it, haha). These classes have also been great for my mental and emotional health. You just stop worrying and focus on what is important because the environment just makes you want to work really hard. Lastly, I've taken classes with Monica, Janelle, Camilla, and Cecilia! All are very personable, helpful, and attentive to everyone in class. As a college student, I made it my goal to prioritize my physical health after a lifelong struggle with asthma. To ease in to toning and strengthening my "skinny fat" body, I decided to enroll in Darin's pilates class. Since the start of Summer 2022, this decision has been nothing short of empowering and life changing. The Pilates V studio is well-maintained and fully stocked with multiple training apparatuses. While every instructor I had was great, in particular I want to highlight my favorite instructor Darin. Darin's approach to pilates was welcoming and tailored; she understands that everyone's body has different abilities and limitations. I never felt shamed for my lack of strength, and instead Darin encouraged me to develop my physique by focusing on correct form and movement discipline. Every class she came prepared with a lesson plan that allowed students to hit upon all muscle groups evenly and made use of multiple pieces of equipment (TRX, Reformer, Springboard, etc.). I attended Darin's pilates classes multiple times a week, and sometimes, multiple times a day. You can't find a more dedicated, compassionate, and knowledgeable pilates instructor than Darin, and I strongly recommend taking her classes. I cannot thank her enough for being an encouraging instructor and supporting me along my fitness journey. In just three months, my upper body and core strength have improved immensely. Beyond that, I can clearly see muscle definition in my abs, arms, and thighs. I'll be continuing at a separate pilates studio in college and returning to the studio over my Winter Break, which only further highlights my praise for the studio and instructor.
