I love this little gym for so many reasons. To me, it's a no nonsense kind of a place. You do your work out and you leave. No traffic. No fighting for a parking spot. No signing in. No getting in line. The minute We get started, I begin to feel jazzed and ready to get my sweat on! Raquel's spoken words thorough the work out I find soothing, calming, and a reminder that nothing in life is worth getting worked up over. She knows everyone's name and comes around to adjust poses. I found this place in a desperate attempt to find something other than a big gym to work out. After day one I was hooked! The classes are a good mix of fun and challenging and the instructors focus on the right areas where fat builds up and hone right in to blast it right off. I started with the $25 week pass and tried all the classes Body Rituals had to offer. From there I was able to find what did and didn't work for me and signed up officially and be a part of the Body Rituals family. I am always greeted by name and encouraged throughout my workout. Since I took my first class of yoga with Raquel I haven't found another instructor that can compare. She takes the time to correct your posture which makes a huge difference! The aromatherapy oils she uses at the end of her classes are so relaxing and rejuvenating. I look forward to taking more classes at body rituals in the near future. I'm a workout-Groupon bunny. That is, I hop from studio to studio whenever I get a great deal because I absolutely love fitness classes but am on a tight budget (military family, represent! lol). So naturally I was thrilled to get a 10-class deal to this charming new studio in Upland. The place is pretty small (although they've recently expanded), but easily accommodates up to 15 students per classroom without feeling crowded. I appreciate the intimate setting as opposed to classes at commercial gyms where 50 of us would be piled in like sweaty sardines. The smaller class sizes also mean more personalized attention from the instructors, which I thankfully always got being the clumsy beginner that I am. The first class I tried was Hot Pilates. If you are a beginner and clueless like I was, take note: Hot Pilates does not mean "sexy" or "hip/cool" Pilates (I wish I hadn't actually thought this, people). It literally means HOT, they turn on space heaters all over the classroom until it feels like you're working out in a sauna. Needless to say, I lasted 15 minutes before I had to sit out for a breather. One of the staff came and sat with me and helped me get my breathing under control and reassured me so I could jump back into class. I'm really glad they were so supportive because at times like those I feel so embarrassed and out of place (chubby girls, can I get an amen?) that I just want to quit. Well I didn't quit, I kept going until I found a class I loved: Zumba. Zumba on Saturdays with instructor D'marti is the most fun I've had working out in years. There were times when I'd just burst out laughing during a song because I was so euphoric (dancer's high!) and I always left with a giant smile on my face, feeling like a powerhouse for pushing myself that much more. I've been going to Body Rituals for about a year now, and I have nothing but good things to say about this studio! I've tried almost all of the classes here, and love them all. My personal favorites are Power Yoga and Barre Pilates. Something that I really value about this studio is the small class sizes and the attention to detail by the instructors. I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to working out, so I really appreciate this! It allows me to properly target the muscle groups that we're working on, and more importantly avoid any potential injuries. I recently to Upland in Augst. Although I formerly did crossfit, I decided to try something different and used Classpass to test out different gyms. Body Rituals was the first gym I tried. After about a month, I quit class pass and got a membership here. I look forward to going to every class. All the teachers are great but I really enjoy Raquel's classes the most. She is an amazing teacher/owner. It is a completely different type of physical and mental strengthening for me. Raquel really mixes it up every class and limits the number of people to really pay attention to each student. She will challenge you. The studio is clean, music is great, and it is very welcoming. My friend has been telling me about this place for sometime now but I was always to involved in my own ways to give it a try. I tried it for the first time and loved it!! I have been coming here for 3 months now and I get a great work out every time. Before BodyRituals I was training at home with p90x. I liked working out at home but it got boring after a while. My favorite classes are the Power Pilates and the Hot Yoga classes. They are intense and after every class I know that I pushed myself above and beyond. With the Power classes we utilize weights with high intervals which is amazing for fat burning. Since coming here I have been able to shred more fat quickly. I love the workouts and the instructors are amazing too. They know how to push you to your limit in an empowering way that is positive and uplifting. I don't know where to start. I took the hot yoga class and the environment was really bizarre. I've never been in a yoga studio that used black lights, red rope lighting, colored accent lights and incredibly loud music before. It was like being stuck in a weird late 80's bar with no ventilation or windows. There was a window, but it was covered up. All it needed was a liquor bar and it would be pretty much like a janky dive bar, but with Deepok Chopra blaring in your ears about the power of love. I'm not kidding about the Deepok Chopra part, it was part of the routine. I am still confused about the lighting...black lights in a yoga studio? B U T W H Y? The two stars are for the instructor. She seemed very caring and passionate about her practice. She gave each student special attention and gave the right amount of adjustments. It's really too bad she had to yell over the yoga techno guitar smooth jazz music. There was one thing that the instructor did that I thought wasn't good. At the end of class, when students were on their stomachs resting, she would go to each one and crack their backs, by applying pressure between the shoulder blades. Is she a certified osteopath or chiropractor? If she isn't, she definitely should not be doing this. It's just not safe. Also, the bathroom was very clean, that is included in the two stars. So if you want an obnoxious soundtrack to your club lighting yoga, choose the hot yoga class at this studio. read more

I really like this place! I was introduced to it thru a livingsocial deal and i had my doubts when I walked in. It is a bit bare bones BUT definitely a place where you'll be doing yourself a disservice if you judge it by its cover. I was beyond stoked when they moved to the new studio which is clean and looks really really nice. there are no fancy machines or super fancy equipment. However, what you will find here are extremely knowledgable instructors who push you while making it fun. I love zumba with D'Marti, pilates with Kimberly, and hot yoga with Raquel. These guys are terrible. Horrible. So why 4 stars? Because I was kidding. Ive avoided writing a review because ive wanted to keep this place a secret, but ill be moving to asia soon, and theyve been so friendly and helpful, i just couldnt hold out anymore. I love body rituals. I come here strictly for yoga. Erika (Rikki?) is excellent, and an amazing instructor, very patient and she definitely has a "yoga voice"z Haha. Racquel is intense. If you want an intense workout, go with her. I always try to avoid her classes , but thats bc for me, yoga is more about stress relief, flexibility, meditation, than it is about building strength and sweating half my body weight off. Gonzalo is the friendly face youll see when you enter and leave. So why minus a star? There never seems to be yoga at hours that work for me, or enough classes. But i get it, its not a dedicated yoga studio. Also, everything seems to have become more flexible, except for my hamstrings. Yeah. I blame them. So don't come here. Its terrible. Its horrible. I used to be a studio hopper and thought I had found a home studio until I met the owner and staff of Body Rituals. Now I'm there more than I'm at Starbucks! I love that the classes challenge me to push myself, I get an amazing sweaty workout and I honestly feel that in just the last 6 months of my practice (totaling almost 4 years) my body does things she never thought she could. I have been to many studios over the years and have been doing yoga since I was a teenager so I have become choosy with who I like. Body Rituals is by far the best studio I have ever been to. They have a great variety of classes so that anyone can find something that fits their physical needs. all the teachers are very well trained and inspiring.Raquel,the owner, is an awesome teacher, she is:motivating, knowledgeable and challenging.
