Yesterday, I popped in to browse. They have a perfume area where you can mix and create your own personal scent. I couldn't decide, so I looked at the soap area behind me. We ventured in during date day of antiquing. I was looking at gem stone crystals and sage mists...... while my wife was practically getting high from one of the custom made soaps. I looked over and this beezy has this vanity soap up to her face just sniffing it. I'm like, "babe, you look weird right now... lol" her: "you gotta smell it, tho! It literally smells like the Beach" .... and we bought it. Also bought sage mist for cleansing. Great little shop. Very friendly, smelled lovely, beautiful CD playing in the back store. I bought so many early Christmas gifts here! They have a huge selection of lovely soaps and a ton of fun trinkets to buy. I got some nice earrings and a jewelry tray! Love this shop! I always drop by when I'm in Placerville. The best part of this store is the back area. It has been converted to a little garden oasis complete with misters, bird music (bird calls and music), fountains and handmade ceramic pieces. The front part of the shop has bath beads, bath bombs, lipbalms, soaps, anything related to the body. I loved the babushka tweezers, only $2.50! Great spot to find gifts or just to relax. read more

I've been coming to body basics for many years. I love being able to custom scent all sorts of products from body wash, body spray, various types of lotion and even shaving gel (I saw the shaving gel but hadn't seen it before). This is such a wonderful place to buy gifts and also prepare for a little me time. You can't beat the eucalyptus scent for body wash and lotion for colds or for friends who have allergies, really it works great. I buy it for my mom and she also says her sinuses are so much clearer after using it in the shower, she even sounds better! One can even mix various scented oils to make super customized scents. They are more than happy to adjust the product to your liking by adding more oil of your choice then having you smell it and make changes as you like. The back room of this store is my favorite. Today when we went it happened to be freezing out so we didn't spend too much time out there. On a nice day, it's paradise. There is a bird song CD playing at all times (of course we bought it years ago). They have lawn ornaments such as small gnomes, wind chimes, locally made pottery and small one of a kind decorative dishes that can be used for candles or knickknacks. LOVE! Body Basics has been a Main Street staple for me for many years. Always peaceful and relaxing, with the smells and sounds - just a calm atmosphere with a great staff that is always super friendly, knowledgeable and helpful! Have purchased several custom scented items and have loved them all. Also a great place to find "just the right" gift for all ages, sexes and personalities. I ALWAYS visit the backyard oasis, with the nature sounds, water feature and pottery items. My favorite coffee mugs in the whole world are back there. read more

I have a favorite cologne that is no longer being made- I mentioned this to Amy, the store owner, and within a week or so, she had an essential oil sample (a generous one) that was mixed to smell like my cologne. It was close, not exact, but it smells so great, and I receive a lot of compliments! I ordered a larger bottle, and now I smell great all the time!! That's GREAT customer service! I was shopping with my Mum on a weekday and I was looking for a gift a friend who is expecting. I popped in, not expecting much in the way of products. Boy howdy, they've got a lot of different stuff! I was looking for some very specific things and the gal at the counter was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. They have an in-house line of stuff that can be blended to your liking, and the whole line is very reasonably priced. They've also got the high-end lines, but the shop is very friendly and inviting. I ended up walking out with gifts for my friend, some other friends, and myself (of course). The gal at the counter even gave some samples, and I smelled awesome by the time I walked out of there. I am seriously contemplating a trip up there just so I poke around and get some more things for myself. I wish they were closer to me, but thank God they ship. read more

Not your run-of-the-mill soap and lotion shop. They sell lots of other goodies, particularly great for gifts: jewelry, gift cards, incense, and decorative matches. Be sure to go out the back door and enter their little water garden, complete with a tiny koi pond. That's where you'll find lovely handmade ceramic bowls, bugs, plates, an pitchers, along with garden decorations. Worth strolling through this shop just to experience the water garden. read more

Pretty much your standard bath & body store, but a surprising find in the cute but small, downtown Placerville. This is a terrific little shop for purchasing small gifts - hostess gifts, stocking stuffers, or surprise gifts. It's mostly a bathing goods shop. You can find those fizzy bathtub balls here (my favorite!), get custom-blended lotions, nice-smelling quality soaps & lip balms. They also have local artist-made greeting cards, pretty glass hangy things, & sage & incense. Oh, and the sales-staff are always super friendly in that Whole Foods way, that makes me think that they really love working here. All in all, it's a pleasant stop on your way up to the mountains. read more

This store is a place of destination. I was on my way to Tahoe and stopped in Placerville. It felt like stepping back in time. Lovely ambiance. The day got better when we happened into this absolutely delightful store - Body Basics. The vibe in the store is playful and fun. I was instantly drawn to the deck in the back with unique statues. We ended up spending 1.5 hours looking around and interacting with the friendly customers and staff. The owner Amy is a stellar business woman. The essences and soaps are reasonably priced with one of the biggest selections I have ever seen. We then found the jewelry cases. I loved the crystals and large selection of jewelry. Honestly this was one of the most stimulating shopping experiences I have had in a long time. I will drop into this store every time I go to Tahoe. Amy's kindness and great eye touched my heart. My friend and I danced out of the store. Great way to start a fabulous weekend. So much FUN!!!! read more

This place stinks. Stinks like what Heaven must smell like! I am a beauty product junkie and am easily distracted by girlie marketing and products. This place is chock full of affordable and darling gifts, cards, soaps and jewelry. Do yourself a favor and discover the magical shop at the very back of the store, a petite garden paradise. Burt's Bees, Pre de Provence and their house made products. I got: ~Orange Linden and Eucalyptus/Lemon bath salts ~a $6 bottle of the scent "MoonWater" it smells so good I can't keep my nose off my wrist. ~You can use the oil to blend into your own bubble bath and lotions. You can get a large 16 oz bottle of their bubble bath and add your oil for $14.95. ~find a scent you are obsessed with? You can have it blended into just about any product. Nice place to shop for a gift. I use to come her and get bath products (specially scented) until I realized that all the products loose the scent after a short while, and all start to smell the same. (perhaps the basic scent in the product line?) I especially noticed the lotions that I purchased all began to turn a funny smell within weeks of purchase. I now go in and buy pre-made soaps and bath salts, and avoid the speciality perfumed bath products. I think the quality of oils used in scenting is the culprit, but I am no expert. I like products that have stability. read more

This place is so cute! They had all sorts of wonderful, natural body care products and ingredients to make your own bath salts, but my luggage was full so I couldn't buy anything bulky. I did, however, pick up a few empty containers to make your own deoderant and lip gloss. I've seen recipes for both but I've never seen the actual containers so I was really surprised and happy to find them here. The lady working was super friendly and helpful, telling us about some of the products, including the himilayan salt lamp, which I think I might need to pick up back in NYC. read more

I love this place. I tend to spend a lot of money on facial products. A couple of weeks ago, I stopped by to find a body scrub. The staff gave me a tip (make my own) using their essential oils. So I picked out a few essential oils the put them in my oil of choice and I took it home and poured it all over raw organic sugar and poof! ---homemade inexpensive body scrub that wasn't overly priced, overly oily and had the scent I wanted. So now I am hooked. I am a loyal patron for my essential oils. I went back last week and found out they can make scented shampoo, body cream, lotion or whatever. Now if I can just give one tip--order in more products that carry vitamin C or carry vitamin c powder, dmae powder so you can give customers options to make their body lotions more like the expensive name brands. It doesn't cost much for cosmetic vitamin C or Dmae....if you add these you have a Dr. Perricone product for only a few dollars compared to $88. read more

I love this store, I found it a few years ago & was happy to see it was still here when I was in town this week. They have a great selection of soaps, I love that the store smells nice but NOT overwhelming like other similar type shops. Nice variety of brands, sizes & prices. A great selection of small gift type things, in a broad price range. I think in todays economic atmosphere, smart store owners are expanding their lines and finding more affordable things to keep people shopping. This place has done that; I found some adorable little bird figurines, in the $3-5 range...adorable. In the back of the store is a cool outdoor section that has ceramics & outdoor things like windchimes & garden figurines...smaller selection than previously but still plenty of cute things and again, most were very affordable. Still lots of nice cards too, candles & scented oils....and the women who work there are very friendly as well. I love this store, I just miss the little free samples they used to give you! This is my favorite store anywhere. The help is great, their products are quality, the prices are right, the variety is terrific. They will spend an hour blending your ideal fragrance, offer you sample to try and, if you can't make up your mind, mail it to you later. Wow!! The garden behind the store is magical, with plants, pottery, birds tweeting and fish swimming. This is the perfect gift shop where you can find a personal, hand-picked, original gift and not spend an arm and a leg.
