It is the only time during the week when I get to quiet my mind of my ever-growing to-do list and (sort of) focus on myself. In the past when baby Maximus Rex (not his real name) started screaming because he needed attention, Anne has charitably offered to hold him so I could participate in the exercises. Another great thing about this class is that Anne checks in with all the participants to see what their focus areas are, and she changes up the exercises to address these focus areas. For example, Anne almost always incorporates exercises to prevent diastasis recti, which is something that is important to me. Of course, the class isn't just about the mommies. Sometimes we sing to the little ones and give them massages. Everyone leaves more zen!

Once you enter, it's a modern and clean open studio, with plenty of natural light that you can appreciate during your yoga practice. This is my husband's yoga studio of choice, and it's not hard to see why! Besides being a great space to practice yoga, the instructor we had for our Level 2 Vinyasa Flow class this morning was a wonderful guide through our very gentle practice. I also learned a new technique for practicing headstands, which is always fun. Having tried a number of intermediate vinyasa flow classes over the years, the one here was a slower pace than what I'm used to. This what exactly what I wanted on a Sunday after having a strenuous workout yesterday, but I just wanted to share this with my fellow Yelpers. What will definitely get me coming back here is that Yoga Junction allows the never-expiring punch passes to be shared among family members. Yes! True story. I got added to my husband's account and now I can just use classes from his pass. Muahahaha.

Even though I have been practicing at Shala for quite a while, everyday every posture is like a brand new posture to me but with deeper experience. I love it! I have never felt bored! Our amazing instructors lead us to a different zone effortlessly when we are in the class. I consider this my spiritual practice. When COVID hit, the owner and instructor, Octavia and Tam, provided us with online classes via Zoom. I can't imagine how I would have gotten through that difficult time without their amazing support. Now we have many practitioners all over the states and others countries. In Boulder, We can either take classes online or in studio (the studio has most beautiful views in Boulder!). When I noted a stellar deal on Groupon I didn't think twice before making the purchase. Setting the scene: I consider myself a new age yogi - bring on the heat, bring on the power yoga, & bring on the acrobatic yoga. Before attending my first class the thought of taking something mindful and meditative honestly terrified me. Not knowing what to expect I showed up wearing some new cool yoga gear (for confidence of course) as well as a somewhat open mind. Laura was quick to welcome me to the class and get me signed in (each practitioner receives a card which indicates to the teacher what kind of membership they have. If you ask nicely Laura may offer you a cute animal sticker to adorn your card and make it a bit easier to locate upon check-in). The other class attendees were more warm and welcoming than any class I've taken in the past 14 years I've been practicing. Each time I went up to retrieve a prop the person in front of me in line offered one to me. This is something I frequently do in class and this is the first time I've have the courtesy extended to me - it felt great! The class itself was a rare treat. Stretching and breathing into postures has never felt so good. Rather than huffing, puffing, and sweating through class the vibe and Laura's gentle guidance (and clever sharp humor) set the scene for a truly rejuvenating and healing session (I'm currently struggling with some wrist and knee issues). Today I had the pleasure of bringing my partner along and he proudly proclaimed to the teacher that this 'was the best yoga class he has ever experienced'. I'm looking forward to attending many more classes during my membership and hope you also consider giving iyengar yoga a go at this lovely Boulder studio.

Firstly, the teacher Laura is dedicated to working with all kinds of students. Interestingly, she's got a huge heart for Kids with rare diseases and helps them with specific yoga positions. For many years she has taught anatomy for Iyengar students and teachers in locations around the globe. I especially want to emphasize that you get to just be yourself here and not worry about whether you're doing it right, if you look good, or need to be competitive. It's comfortable and welcoming. Sometimes it's fun. Sometimes it's hard. Sometimes it's a new pose you never imagined. Rain or shine, it's happening there, nearly every day of the year. Check it out.

I had done virtually no yoga before hiring Allie to help me work on back pain issues related to…read morecycling. I cycle quite a bit (road and MTB) and started getting significant back and neck pain near the end of the 2018 season. I went to my doctor, did stretches from YouTube, and took pain meds. Nothing really addressed my pain in a significant way. I heard from other cyclists that yoga had helped them with similar issues, and despite it being well outside my comfort zone, decided to try yoga after meeting Allie at a networking event. I signed up for a few sessions, and if I'm honest, wasn't expecting all that much to come of it. It turned out to be a great decision. In short, I've got almost no back pain after working with Allie for several months. I have much improved flexibility in my hips and legs and can sit in the saddle for 4-5 hours without feeling hobbled by the end of the day. I'm riding more smoothly and with better core strength than ever before. For context, I do quite a bit of core work on my own, usually 3-4 days a week. Yoga pushed in different ways than anything I have done on my own at the gym. Allie also walked me through a bunch of different stretches, all of which have been beneficial. A surprising side benefit is that I can also breathe better than before, including when riding. I'm getting more air into my lungs with each breath using techniques from sessions with Allie. Allie is prompt, communicates well, and is a pleasure to work with. She listens well, provides useful feedback, and will help make yoga approachable to a newbie like me. Allie is incredibly knowledgeable and insightful, and has a breadth of experience in Yoga that far surpasses my experience level. She can help people new to yoga like myself, or more advanced folks as well. Overall, I'm so, so glad I went outside my comfort zone to try yoga. It's helped me with my sport, helped me sleep better, and given me a wealth of knowledge about how my body works and doesn't work that I didn't know beforehand. I plan to continue this journey and have signed up for another pack of lessons with Allie. If you're looking for a yoga teacher, you couldn't do better than Allie.

If you are familiar with F45, you'll be somewhat familiar with this format. Video instruction with…read moresome assistance from a live trainer. A quick google search told me that this franchise did start in Australia, like F45. They even had an Australian guy James (who was in some of the videos!) whispering in the trainers ears the first week. I feel like this video format makes more sense with F45 than Pilates. I appreciate the constant instruction that you may not get with a live trainer (depending on their personality and desire to talk through the whole class) but sometimes my head was down because of the exercise and I just couldn't figure out what the video trainer was saying. If the exercise was the same throughout that would be ok. But it would change instruction mid exercise. The verbal cues weren't always the best. With F45 there are no verbal cues. Just look at the screen, do the exercise for the full 45 seconds or whatever, and move to the next station. As the other reviewer said, their pricing was just not competitive when I visited. $60 for 7 classes intro offer was good but the gym just opened, there was hype and those classes needed to be scheduled with 2 weeks. I think some people may have gotten screwed because classes filled up so fast. Only 14 spots per class because that's all the room and reformer machines they had. Also, there was no unlimited option like other local studios offer. Only pass packs which had to be used within a certain time. And their pass packs were more expensive than other reformer studios nearby. I'm not sure how much flexibility that they have given that it is a chain.

The instructors really meet you where you are to make sure you don't hurt yourself. They are very supportive and encouraging and I've enjoyed all of them. When you sign up for a class you know who your instructor will be (if you have favorites) I've taken classes with high school students and with a couple of people over 80. It is a hard workout but class generally goes quickly. I've recommended it to several friends. My husband says it's changed my life for the better. Try it!
