First & Foremost: I will be returning to try the different items in their bakery case! This is a grocery/restaurant. I came in on a Friday evening, less than an hour before they closed. Because of that, the food was a little limited, most of the items they had out were nearing the bottom, and they didn't have many things out. Because of the lack of lack of options I decided to get the cubano sandwich, the tres leches cake, & a drink. The sandwich was massive. I ate one half and saved the other to give to my husband. I wasn't the biggest fan of the ham they used, but my husband liked it all the same. I was a fan of the bread! Not sure how they made it so good and crispy, but it was amazing. The sandwich itself was just okay. The tres leches cake. I really loved the icing (the pink one). The cake was good but I don't think it was moist enough. It was a two tier cake so perhaps that's the reasoning. I got the small one (about $7) and it was easily enough for 4 decent size servings. It was refreshing going to a different Cuban grocery store. I love Cuban food, but I was continously going to the same spot. While telling my sister this, she suggested that I try Bodega by Bashford manor. And I am glad that I did. First of all, not only are they a grocery store, but they also have a buffet behind the glass where you tell them what you want and they put it in a to go box. They have plenty of bakery, pastry, etc... different varieties of meat, rice, sweets. I could go on and on. If you enjoy Cuban food then you should try this place. Half Grocery, half cafeteria style dining area with hot meals for eat in or to go - brush up on your Spanish because the food is not marked, and English is spoken pretty sparingly. I got a yellow rice that had chicken and vegetables mixed in, and ropa veija (even, I, quintessential white girl, knows a good ropa when I see it). The food is incredibly delicious, generous and filling. Hot tip though, if you want to buy anything from the grocery side, you have to pay for it separately on the grocery side, you cannot pay for grocery things on the cafeteria side. So i went today and O.M.G. i went inside to find some fruits and meats, but to my surprise i found a huge cafe side! A real local secret for me. A couple of weeks back, one of my coworkers asked me if I wanted to go to lunch. He said that he knew this great litte Cuban place down the street. I thought, why not? What a VERY pleasant surprise. I would have never even known this place existed were it not for my friend. It is not what you think of when you think traditional restaurant because it is half restaurant and half grocery store. I did not have time to explore the grocery store but I know I will next time. The incredible aromas hit you as you walk in the door and from there it just gets better. I am no Cuban cuisine expert by any stretch of the imagination so I went with what I had always heard about, the Cuban pressed sandwich. I am so glad I did because I had only ever had Cuban pressed sandwiches at non-Cuban restaurants. The real deal is so much better than the others. The pork and turkey were juicy, tender, and succulent and the bread was crisp and buttery on the outside. It was so well done that the sandwich never got soggy while I was eating it. When I bit into the sandwich it would crunch and then my mouth would immediately fill with the juices of the meat. It was hands down one of the best sandwiches I have ever eaten. The only reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 is because of the location and limited seating. Well, it's been awhile and this review is a little bit overdue but should still be valid. First off, I'm not sure if the restaurant's name is Bodega Mi Sueno or simply Mi Sueno, as there are entries on Yelp for either. I don't think it will matter much but I'll post my review to the one that appears to have the most comments. Secondly, upon a little research, Mi Sueno translates to "my dream" so I kind of felt that a review would be appropriate, as dreams seem to play a particularly unusual part of my day-to-day. Not sure why, they just do, I don't try to dwell on it much, but the Fates appear to have a hand in these things. As readers know, I'm a fan of Cuban food. Big fan, partly because one of my favorite people on this planet introduced me to it, and two, because I just like ethnic food. And as others know, I'm also always looking for a deal. Mi Sueno fits both of those requirements. At least during the lunch hour, it's cafeteria-style Cuban, with a few meat entrees to choose from, a couple different rice dishes as a starch or base, and then a few vegetables to pick from as well. And the gal behind the counter does not hold back, she loads up the plate, in this case with a giant Fred Flintstone-sized, slow-cooked Lamb Shank, rice and plantains for about $10. Not bad at all. The appeal of the restaurant won't be with the decor though, so don't expect Havana Rumba, simply expect good food like your abuela used to make. read more

The restaurant is very bright and cheerful on the inside, and is painted in tropical colors. The dining room is huge. Once inside the bodega, you order at a counter. There is an extensive menu lighted on the wall, as well as a display case laden with Cuban food. There is also a small selection of tropical produce for sale, and a refrigerated case with desserts and other items. I ordered a Cubano, a toasted Cuban sandwich with lechón asado (pork), ham, cheese and pickles. Pork, pork and more pork. The sandwich was delightful: the best Cubano I have had. Great Cuban find on Bardstown Road. Everything I've tried is awesome but the roasted pork, congri, and plantains are my favorites. And you'll need to take flan home for later because it is to die for but you'll be way to full to even attempt eating it as a part of your meal. Portions are very generous! The congri rice was good, as were the fried plantains. The beef was still a little tough in the ropa vieja, I think it needed to stew for longer. If you want to enjoy real Cuban food, this is the restaurant for you. We ordered "La Completa". This includes one type of rice of your choice, one type of meat (pork, chicken, beef or fish) and one "vianda" which means Yuca, tamales or sweet plantains. And you better be very hungry. Because this is a big amazing portion of delicious food. If you are not that hungry you can share or take some food home for dinner. I've been to this spot several times now and it's never disappointed. Their menu changes each day and they have fresh delicious juices as well as desserts. They have hands down the best Cuban sandwich I've experienced thus far. Even better than the Cuban sandwiches I had in Miami's little Havana! This converted fast-food place doesn't look like much, but the food is great. We went for dinner and opted for the cantina-style entrees from the steam table. I had fried catfish, Cuban rice and plantains. The catfish was wonderfully seasoned, the plantains were sweet and the rice was just yummy. Portions were large enough for another meal for me. My husband had the Cuban rice, a pork option, and squash. He said the pork was delicious and the rice was "too easy to eat", though the squash did not have much flavor. I've had them before and thought it was mediocre but gave them another try tonight. They're nice people and all but my food was terrible. I ordered the Cuban, extra fries and 2 tamales. The Cubans bread was stale and the meat was super dry. The tamales were not good at all either. When I had them before they had chicken but these were just straight up flour. They had no taste and it was sadly disappointing because I was really looking forward to it. I tried to like them but I will be going to Havana rumba for my Cuban food from now on. read more

This was our first and last visit here. Upon ordering, no one spoke English, which was while a tad frustrating, not a big deal. My husband ordered the Cuban sandwich, myself, the Masa Frites, and my daughter, a chicken strip meal. Upon receiving order, which two out of three were served on a plate, and the other in a to go box? We had to ask for silverware and bought cokes out of a vending machine , due to the language barrier, we were not able to order drinks with our food. Upon my daughter's first bite into her second chicken strip, she was horrified to find the chicken completely RAW. As if they were flash fried, straight out of a freezer. The breading was done, but the chicken was completely uncooked. We were so horrified, and obviously lost all appetite. We returned the food immediately. I had taken one bite of mine, and my husband didn't even get that far with his. We demanded for our money back and this was another huge debacle with the language barrier. After 15 minutes of standing at the counter and us googling translations for "raw" and the like, they finally gave us our money back. Try this place cause had 3 stars. Food was not that great, I had rope Vieja con yuca, was pretty good. My wife had black beans and white rice, beans had no flavor at all and the rice was dry, we order a fish to have something cook fresh but when serve was under cook. Note when we arrive there was a pool of water coming from the cooler that had the flan and other desserts, meaning that it was broken and temperature was not adequately keep.
