In the unit that was previously the Filthy Cow burger bar, is now this Belgian-style beer café.
There appears to be a recent trend for European beer-focused venues in the city centre (alongside Albert's Schloss, The Bouncing Czech and Cooper Hall) - they're catering for an increased Mancunian interest in booze from the Continent.
Quite a lot has been changed inside (all the kinky bovine paraphernalia has been removed, obviously) and there are now smart leather booths, marble-topped tables and Belgian beer motifs dotted about the two floors of drinking space.
With 10 taps and dozens of bottled beers (mainly Belgian, but with some other countries represented) they have a fairly good selection for the uninitiated Belgian drinker (I include myself here).
It's table service, with every beer being served with its appropriate glass. It made for a pleasant drinking environment - you can have an audible conversation in here with light jazz background music turned down low.
You're likely to get an equally decent choice of Belgian beers at Bar Fringe or Café Beermoth - or venturing further out of the city to Altrincham's Belgian Bar or Mort Subite. That being said, I liked it in here, they're still very new, and with them serving charcuterie boards, cheese fondue and dessert platters - it's one to return to. read more
