I appreciate the supplies and fish they carry but they treat you like your business is inconveniencing them and it's 98% because they're the only "small, local owned" business for fish supplies in the CSRA. Their customer service is less than 1 star. I called the business on a Saturday right when they opened to see if I could bring in about 15-20 fish from my tank as it's too overcrowded and I couldn't go during the week and the guy on the phone said no ma'am, which is understandable but I just wanted to ensure there was no way they could accommodate to my circumstances and a man in the background screamed out did she not hear you the first time? I get it they get busy on the weekends, but unfortunately I work all week and can't make it during their business hours. Extremely annoyed with their service but unfortunately I won't really be able to go anywhere else, and they know that too... it's a shame. read more

I found this business well staffed and well stocked with tropical freshwater and salt water fish for any budget. Aquarium selection is unexpectedly broad and the plants and accessories also plentiful. Word in Atlanta is prices are better here, so weekends get busy. read more

Fantastic selection of freshwater fish. Love the variety and health of their fish. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. They are also very attentive to the fish as you WILL see tanks of quarantined fish that they won't sell and you WON'T see dead fish in the tanks. My family and I recently moved to Augusta and I have been trying to get my aquarium reestablished. I am an experienced tank owner. I have lost so many of the fish I purchased from Pet Smart that I looked for another source. I found Bob's. In general fish look better and so far not a single one has perished. read more

Staff doesn't seem too eager to help. I thought I'd get a different experience going here than Petsmart because my son wants a fish for his birthday but I think I will be settling for Petsmart. Sad to hear a locally owned business is not eager about first time customers. read more

I have been in the saltwater tank hobby for a couple years now; I've been to several local fish stores (LFS) across the states. When I've moved to Augusta, I had only two options for saltwater: petco and bob's. This is a great store to have when the next LFS is in Columbia, Atlanta, and Savannah. They stock the freshwater very well, but I'll focus on the corals and fish. The coral frags are placed in numerous frag tanks with LED lighting that make all their corals pop. The prices are written on the glass so you won't have to be dealing with shady estimated prices for haggling. Frags range from $10 and up; they get shipments frequently. They have enough to help you introduce a SPS, LPS, softie, etc. They have very well priced. Their specialty seems to be triggers, Angels, and wrasse. Beautiful and unique ones. They have the standard equipment and dry goods you would expect from a respectable LFS as well. The staff are friendly and can help anyone interested get started. They also provide RODI and saltwater. read more

TL;DR - Betta health and water quality is hit or miss. Employees are very knowledgeable and helpful. Great selection of live plants and products. This is my go to place for anything fish tank related - just not the fish. The guys that work here are very knowledgeable and super helpful. I love their live fresh water plant selection and the plants have always been really healthy and fast growing. Their fish tank decor is great and unique and I was able to find a really unique rock cave for my fish that I couldn't find anywhere else. One thing I will say is that I'm not a fan of their Betta fish. Sometimes they get beautiful ones in stock, but their health is a gamble. Sometimes the water is clean and other times the water is filthy. I bought one back in November and it barely lived a month in my heated, filtered and planted 10 gallon. The water parameters in my tank were perfect, but my betta still developed dropsy and died. The betta I bought after was in a little cup at Petco and has already lived longer than the one from Bob's. I haven't bought any other fish from them so their other freshwater fish could actually be great. Betta fish are my favorite fish though and I'm not impressed with the quality of theirs. All in all I would recommend them over big chain stores, especially for their knowledgeable employees and live plants as well as their product selection. read more

Great selection of fish and they were so accommodating even gave me a styrofoam cooler to carry my fish the long drive back. I've also contacted the owner via FB private message and he always answers and is very accommodating. I'm headed back tomorrow actually to stock my 55 with African cichlids read more

Some of these sales people have no clue or just don't care what they will sell you. I've been dealing with them for like 15 or so years. I really can't wait for a fish store that knows what they are selling. They have a good selection of fresh and salt. Most everything is priced high so look elsewhere if you can. read more

I always goto Bobs for all my pond needs from water plants to Koi fish and supplies, friendly staffs and the owner is really nice. You should check out there outdoor Koi pond in the back. It is one of the top notch pond out there. read more

My nephew has been asking for fish for a couple years now, and we gave in for his fifth birthday last week. We wanted to start small, so we purchased a five gallon tank start kit from Walmart and brought it home. We got it all set up and headed to Bob's for fish. He informed us we needed to wait until the next day to let it cycle for 24 hours. We did just that. When we came back the next day, Bob's told us for our five gallon tank, we needed about eight fish. My nephew and his big brother proceeded to pick out their eight, one of which included a Rainbow Shark. This was on a Friday. They told us not to feed the fish until Monday, and not to touch the tank to clean it, change water, or do anything for 45 days. The next morning, the water was cloudy, so we went back for Seachem's Stability. He assured it was normal and nothing would go wrong; the tank just needed time to cycle with the fish and bacteria. He said to add a caupful every day until the bottle was gone. The next morning, the neon tetra my nephew picked out was dead. I also joined a group on FB after that to look for some advice, and I'm really glad I did. I found out that not only was our tank wildly overcrowded. Not only was it overcrowded, we had a mixture of fish that were not compatible to live together, and the Rainbow shark was not safe to live in a five gallon tank, and that the smallest it should live in is a 55 gallon, that in smaller aquariums, though they are community fish, they become territorial and aggressive. we watched him chase our red tux guppy and nip at him all day yesterday. We found out you are actually supposed to cycle your tank for 2-6 weeks before adding fish to make sure the ammonia and nitrites are not harmful to your fish. We found out that a five gallon tank is not so forgiving when dealing with ammonia, and that if you need to cycle fish in your tank, it's best to have a bigger one. After everything was done, we couldn't afford a 55 gallon tank upgrade. We explained to my nephew that his Rainbow Shark would have to go live somewhere else for awhile until maybe one day we had a tank big enough for him to live in and it was safe. We upgraded our tank to a 20 gallon, got a better quality filter, and we found out which of our fish could be compatible, which need to be purchased in schools or groups (because Bob's didn't bother to give us this information either), and we learned about doing water changes and testing the water with the API master kit to ensure water quality for a healthier fish. Since they are the only LFS in an hour to two hour radius, I am likely to buy from Bob's again in the future, but I will not do it at their direction or advice. I'll make sure I do my own research before going in and purchasing a fish to keep this from happening again. Do your research first. read more

This store is not where you would expect it to be but as long as you don't go during rush hour is easy to get to. Hands down this is the place you want to go to for all your tank needs. tons of healthy looking fish to choose from and the prices seem to be good. Tons of various sized tank statues and live water plants. My complaints would be the store needs to be organized because it is very cluttered. Also they need to label the areas so you can more easily find your tank needs instead of having to hunt read more

I have only recently been introduced to the saltwater fish hobby via a close friend. When I first came to Bob's it was a lot to take in but the general layout was not overly complex. Staff were quick to offer help and information whenever I had questions about any of the specific animals or coral in stock. They seem to keep everything consistently stocked with a nice variety of salt and freshwater fish. The prices were also quite good compared to stores I have been to in Maryland and Arkansas. read more

Drove from Columbia to visit Bob's...........I won't do that again. It is a well stocked store, but the staff lacks knowledge other than what is written on the tanks. The owner was supposedly on vacation, one staff member that I questioned seemed to be a bit "put off" because I asked about something.
