Bob's Towing is the epitome of superb customer service! A few weeks ago, I went to dinner with a friend that I hadn't seen in a while. On the way back from dinner, my friend's vehicle started making a weird winding sound. The weather was awful, practically torrential downpour, and we were stuck on the side of Highway 54. I called my father who recommended that we call Bob's Towing- he had used them before and had a very good experience. Bob's arrived on the scene so quickly after I had called them. The driver was extremely professional and kind! He towed the car/drove us both back to their lot. The owner asked about the issues the car was having, and even had his friend Keith (who is a mechanic) diagnose the problem. (It ended up being an issue with the serpentine belt). Altogether, I am blown away by the amazing experience that my friend and I had with Bob's Towing! I highly recommend everyone use them! read more

This company towed my vehicle from the designated parking lot for my apartment building, even though my valid parking permit was clearly visible on the windshield. When I called to ask why my car had been towed, I was first told that I had parked in the lot for the adjacent apartment building. That was false, and the (I assume) owner later acknowledged that my vehicle had, in fact, been parked in the correct lot. Even more concerning, my property manager told me that this company is not supposed to service my building -- and that they have not had anyone towed from our property in years. In other words, my car was removed from a lot where I was authorized to park by a company that may not have even had the authority to tow there. When I asked why my car had been towed while the other residents' cars were left alone, I was told that my car may have been selected "at random." That is deeply troubling. A towing company should not be removing permitted vehicles from a residential lot, especially without being able to provide a valid explanation or clear authorization. After confirming that my car had been towed improperly, they returned it at no charge, which was the bare minimum. However, the person who returned the car -- the same person who initially towed it -- was extremely rude and refused to provide proper documentation that my vehicle had been towed. Based on this experience, I would strongly caution residents, property managers, and apartment complexes against using this predatory company. In my case, they towed a permitted vehicle from the correct lot, offered nonsensical explanations, apparently lacked authorization to tow from the property, and failed to provide documentation afterward. read more

Yes, I was parked where I wasn't supposed to be. That being said, they towed my car, then I called them and was met with a voice so muffled I couldn't hear a word they said. I was then given an only sort of accurate address and told I couldn't get my car until the next morning even though they supposedly operate 24-hours. So I went to get my car the next day. I didn't have a great way to get there because I didn't have my car, so I took the bus as far as I could and then proceeded to make a 20-minute walk through wet grass fields (no sidewalk) in 30-degree weather. I finally got to a gas station where the address took me and they told me that the towing place doesn't have an office, but that my car was behind a gate out back and I'd have to call them. So I did. I called them and they told me they would have someone out there in 15 minutes. So I waited outside in the dark. They finally get there and charge me $300. This business is predatory, overcharges, and can't bother to act like a legitimate company. read more

I was parked in a handicapped space with my handicapped placard, directly adjacent to a business that took Duke Energy payments. When I came out, Bob's had my car don his truck. I was told that the handicapped space was for a business downhill, through a gravel lot. I found that it is illegal to tow a handicapped car from any handicapped space, and my car was towed to a lot outside of any bus service. I had to call a friend to take me to the bank, get the $160.00 to get my car, and he took 2 hours to get to me. read more

My son accidentally parked in a reserved space at his apartment complex after coming home late at night from buying medication after being sick all week and missing most of his classes at UNC Chapel Hill. Since his car is registered to the complex, someone could have just called him and let him know to move his car, but instead it was towed by Bob's Towing. Still being sick the next day, my son did not realize until very late that the car had been towed so he had to get it out of hock for the towing plus one extra day of storage. He called Bob's towing to ask what forms of payment they accept and how much he would owe and was told to pay $335 cash or $380 Venmo. He then wasted a lot of time trying to get to a bank and get the cash but because of an issue with his ATM card and the type of account he has as a student, he was not able to get the cash. So he hurried to take an Uber to Bob's, and once he got there, was told that they DO actually accept debit cards and he had to pay $300 to get my car back. The cost of this towing is outrageous even for an expensive area like Chapel Hill. Here's what my Google search of towing cost in the area brought up. Nevertheless, a very expensive lesson that my son learned: be sure when parking your car when sick after getting medicine at a pharmacy to get out and verify if the parking spot has a reserved number or not. read more

Bob's is notorious in Chapel Hill for predatory towing. My coworker once parked at the Panera Bread on Franklin street to pick up a takeout order at the chipotle next door. During the five minutes she spent inside the chipotle, Bob's had already started hooking up her car to their tow truck. Based on this, I was very surprised to find that I was unable to get in contact with the towing company when their towing services were actually needed. My apartment complex uses Bob's towing, last night the spot that I paid for was taken. I called Bob's around 15-20 times over a 2 hour period and was unable to speak with anyone. I recently parked in the Lark visitors section and had an accurate reservation and verification to park there. However, two letters on my license plate were switched. It was an obvious mistake and my car was still towed by Bob's towing. The manager of Lark explained that she could do nothing about it, so I called Bob's towing to explain the issue. The man over the phone was dismissive, and would hardly let me get a word in to explain to him this very irrational situation. He kept repeating himself saying "Our work here is done," and "Have a good night." I understand this business is like any other and needs to make money, but they try to justify their practice of predatory towing on college-aged students. It is very much taking advantage of college kids in the town of Chapel Hill. Very unprofessional, and interesting that they don't take any other payment besides Venmo or cash! $250 to get my car back for a noticeable mistake right before my final exam the same day! My car was towed to the wrong location. The drivers explanation was he tows the car to the address provided. When my car arrived to my home almost an hour later. My license plate was gone. As the driver stepped out the vehicle he was telling me the plate was gone. I believe he stole the plate as his compensation for going to the wrong address. I spoke with the roadside assistance and was told they uploaded a photo of the plate and it vanishes. No circumstance just outright stealing. I do not recommend them to anyone, find a better company with more reputable employees. read more

Then tried to force me to pay a drop fee in the parking lot of my own apartment due to HIS mistakes. Had to get apartment employees involved at 11 pm. The townhouse I used to live at used this towing company. Once at 11 at night, I noticed lights flashing outside my house. I went outside to see Bob's towing hooking up to my roommate's car--parked legally within our own parking lot with the parking permit showing. My roommate went out there and the guy cursed at her when she asked what he was doing. He didn't believe she was in a parking spot, so he was going to tow her car despite her being parked legally in her own lot. Thankfully he eventually left without towing the car. The girl in the townhouse next to me wasn't so lucky. They towed her legally parked car and she had to pay to get it back even though she was parked in her own spot. If you're a property company looking to partner with a towing company, I would highly not recommend this company as your tenets will probably end up complaining to you about this company. read more

I needed to tow my Volvo to the dealership because the key was stuck in the ignition so my roadside company called Bob's Towing. The tow driver said the only thing that's wrong is the battery is dead. The key won't come out with a dead battery. He charged the battery and the key came right out. He saved me tons of money from the dealership! Not to mention the driving back to the dealership with someone else wasting both our times. My friend who doesn't know anything about cars called Bob's Towing to change her flat tire. They charged $50 to replace the flat tire with a donut wheel from her truck. Not only did they not inflate her flat replacement donut tire, they also took her rim. So for $50 they changed 4 nuts, put on a donut wheel, and stole her property, taking advantage of a naive girl. The Donut wheel was flat and the Tow truck guy didn't inflate the tire and told her to fill it up at the nearest gas station (and expected her to drive her car on a flat donut tire there.) In addition, Bob's towing took her rim with the flat tire and told her she needed to get a new tire. HOW DO YOU REPLACE THE TIRE IF YOU TAKE THE RIM? On top of everything, they didn't help get her car started and so she called me. Her battery was dead (bc of being out of state for a month) and I helped her with the tire situation. After driving half way to our destination to get a new tire, it came to my realization that Bob's Towing took her rim, so we called them and he told us he would give it back to us in 30-45 minutes. We waited for 2 HOURS. Highly unprofessional, lacks common sense, and did not come through on their word... but to there credit, the tow truck driver seemed nice. read more

I was parked in Chapel Ridge when I was towed. My friend and I stopped the guy in the parking lot and asked him to drop the car. He said he could not and we would have to follow him to the tow yard. After paying $150 ($200 card) to get my car back, we were informed by Chapel Ridge of an agreement between the two. If the tow truck is stopped on property, the driver is to release the car, free of charge. The tow truck driver (hideous spiderweb tattoo on his neck) has insisted to his boss that we did not stop him until we were on the highway. The owner will not reimburse me because it is "our word against his". I have no problem paying for my wrongdoing, however in this situation, I was charged for no reason as the driver was supposed to return my car to me when we caught him. Terrible service. Scam artists: why would there be a $50 difference between cash and card unless the company was pocketing the money to avoid taxation? Do not recommend. read more

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. They were careless and reckless my car. It was late at night and I didn't want to sit in a car on the side of the road while they told me it would take 99 mins to to come and get my car. So I told them my daughter would pick me up and to let me know when they are on the way so that I would be able to meet them. I left my hand break up and my blinkers on. But instead of calling me to let me know that so that I would be able to get into my car and put the handbrake down, they simply drug my car from the place. It was broke down to my apartment and called me after the fact to let me know that my car was already at the apartment, so coming from the mechanics They explained to me that my two back tires were damaged because the car was drugged. Multiple miles down the road to my apartment complex and when I called to get the problem resolved or the issue taken care of instead of listening to the customer and taking their side, they disregarded my whole situation and attempted to accuse me of lying. read more

My car wasn't starting even after replacing my battery, so I had Bob's tow my car to the shop to get it looked at. The driver came to my place fairly quickly and was really helpful, even helping to see what the problem could be and if something could be done before we took it to the shop. As mentioned before, definately a predatory towing service, targeting college students in the Chapel Hill, NC area. He towed my daughter's car from a neighbor's driveway while she was in class. He only excepts cash...$150 for first 24 hours, then storage fees are added. When my daughter picked up her car she noticed the rear bumper and the back of the car was dented. ($600 damage), which he claims he didn't cause. When she called the local police to file a report he locked her out of the gate. While she was picking up her car, four other college students were also picking up their cars as well. He is a Despicable Person...no surprise he has a "F Rating" with the BBB!!! read more

Unfamiliar with the towing service area in Chapel Hill I called Bob on a phone number given by a mechanic I know, it turned out he had to different numbers and I had talked to him both times withing 24 hours. He told me he would tow my car (only 5miles) but would charge $60, then he said he would charge me $50; I called him on 1 of his # the next morning to verify that if he would charge $50 indeed, he angrily repeated "$60", "$60", "$60"!! At the time I didn't know he had 2 cell # and then called the other #, again I tried clarifying and he was really rude and disrespectful and he kept angrily repeating he would charge "$60!!" This man furiously stated that was his price, then stated matter of fact he was the business owner and told me he WOULD NOT even tow my car at all and told me to go find another service to do so. They have towed me three times in the past 2 months, twice with a VALID parking pass to which they responded they didn't see, and that nothing could be done, even after showing the person who met me at their lot that it was in my car. They tow at college student apartments, 24 hours a day, hoping to make that $150 or $200, from the students who don't have cash (most don't carry $150 cash...) Called them for a battery jump on 8/11/2014. They came fairly promptly and quickly got me going. I needed a receipt in order to get a reimbursement from my insurance. However, the guy claimed and promised that they would send it electronically via my email, which I gave to him. I never got a receipt. Even after several phone calls asking for one. Can't do business with someone that fails on a promise like that, and I won't. read more

Sorry as heck, broke the ignition on my truck. Admitted to me, but lied to Liberty Mutual and Aero, their tow contractor he works for. Drove the tow truck, a flat bed from under the truck while the nose of my truck was tilted straight in the air and the tail to the ground, slamming the truck to the ground and leaving it in the middle of the street to be tagged by the police. He would not give me a receipt or wait until I called the insurance company tow dispatch to tell them of THE TERROR. They are refusing to pay for repairs so far so we are in the legal process awaiting court. read more
