Many of the reviews here are from 2021 and earlier, prior to the garage reopening after a prolonged shut-down. My experience with Bob's has been good. I can go in on a Monday morning to get an appointment to change my winter tires over and by Wednesday the work is done. One thing - check your tire pressure after having tires changed. They are always overinflated. Folks there have been friendly since reopening. I have no complaints so far. read more

I was told in order to pass inspection I needed all new pads, rotors & calipers on my 5 year old 4runner. I was quoted $1000-$1500, and it failed inspection. If I could leave zero stars I would. Apparently it's very real that a woman can't walk into a garage and be lied to. It's funny how the story changes when your husband is a mechanic. Despicable. read more

Every time I have stop here to get gas the service was rude and basically nonverbal grunts from the usual suspect who acted like we were interrupting his nap. In desperation today I had to pull in as I had a tire that appeared dangerously low. I pulled in and sat for 5 minutes, not a peep or sign of anyone. I called and politely asked if someone would kindly come out and take a look at the tire (and possibly give it some air, which I would have more than happy to tip 5 bucks) and was told by a surly man who answered that "one of our mechanics is out sick and the other one is very busy!" Now, mind you, under normal circumstances I would totally understand. EXCEPT, this is not the first time this has happened. I got the same exact response last fall. And earlier in the summer. With a different vehicle. I have always done my very best to support local businesses, but I will NEVER give them a red cent moving forward. I will drive to Sandy's Sunoco now, where I get treated like a human being. read more

Had my car inspected here. 2005 suby Forester. Used to being treated like im a dumb young woman at auto places. Had the greatest treatment here. My car was in bad shape and they were able to keep to a price point I requested even though they originally quoted me a higher price. Was ready when they said it would be and runs great now. I've never had any work done on my car here . . . BUT BUT BUT A couple months ago, I locked my keys in my car. While it was running. Poo. I called AAA and they sent over a nice young man from Bob's Sunoco. Maybe it was Bob; I have no idea. However, this guy looked more like a Derrick. ANYWAY He had my stubborn Suby opened up in about 3 seconds flat. I think my exact words were, "Holy crap, you're good!" Oh yeah, and he was really good looking :) read more

They fixed my AC, cost was $150, the very next day, AC was not working. Took it back, they fixed it again, another $100, soon as I took it home, stopped working. Tried to bring it back that to show them it wasn't working, they didn't want to see it; said I had to speak with the AC guy. Left my number, asked for him to call me. Have called every day since but the ac guy is never there. read more

I got a flat in my way to work, filled it and brought it to bobs on my break. They had a new tire on and sent me on my way super fast, even though they were really busy! Everyone was really nice and the prices are very fair. Will be going back next time my car needs work for sure! read more

First off, the review from Holly S. can't possibly be for Bob's Sunoco. It's an auto shop, they don't sell food, never have, probably never will. Bob's has done a lot of work on my car, most of the time it's been good. However, they have a partner shop in Waterbury which is not to be trusted AT ALL. So if Bob's in Montpelier is too full and suggest sending your car to their shop in Waterbury, just don't do it if it's for anything beyond an oil or tire change. The work is shoddy and the Waterbury guy will take you for whatever cash you have. I paid $2500 for a new transmission which immediately started having problems. He also put the wrong size struts in my car, said he fixed the brakes when he didn't -- really a bad mechanic all around. An additional note about the Montpelier shop: I paid for $10 of gas with a debit card at the pump and Sunoco withdrew the REMAINING CASH IN THE ACCOUNT and held it in their account for THREE days. That's right, for $10 worth of gas, they took $300 of my money for 3 days. Now this may have nothing to do with the local franchise themselves, but I will never pay at a sunoco with plastic again and consider this my recommendation to do the same. read more

Fuck these guys. They were called by my insurance company to tow my car to the garage since my starter died. Progressive covers 15mi of towing, my garage is 18mi so they said I'd have to pay $3 per mile. No problem. The driver shows up an hour later an hooks onto my car and proceeds to drag it onto the flat bed. When he tries to secure the front end he breaks a sway bar link off and dismisses it with a simple, "oh, sorry" Then after 17 tries to get the correct tension he finally starts to drive away, but stops at the end of my driveway and backs up. He gets out of his truck and tells me I owe him $21 for the difference in mileage. Someone needs a remedial math lesson. After correcting him he tells me," I'm having a bad day, and I hope it gets better" You and me both buddy. I tried to give it zero stars, but you can't. If you need a tow, call LaRoche. read more

This summer, My Volvo 240 broke down on I-89S. I had just moved to Montpelier and was unfamiliar with any of the service centers in that area (I have a marvelous mechanic in Burlington!) Naturally, I called AAA and had the car towed, and decided to follow my landlord's advice and take my car to Bob's Sunoco, where my car was diagnosed with a bad alternator. I was WAY overcharged for the part, WAY overcharged for labor, and slapped with a 400 dollar bill (for an alternator? I may be a little blonde girl but I know a lot about my old car!). I was just told by my mechanic in burlington that Volvo 240's don't often need alternator's replaced entirely, they just need a switch replaced and belts, which he quoted me would have been a 70 dollar fix. I was also treated like dirt by the receptionist at Bob's Sunoco, who gave me a serious attitude when I asked if there was some way she could bill me (400 dollars is a lot of money in this economy, and I was not expecting that!) but she just tried to shoo me out the door if there was no possible way I could pay her that very instant. I was extremely disappointed with the way I was treated at this service center. The work was done dishonestly, and was way too overpriced. Unfortunately, I was stuck in the situation, and now I refuse to even buy gas here. I do not recommend taking your vehicle to this service center for any reason. read more

Don't trust this place. This company left us stranded in a cold and snowy situation that could have been dangerous had it not been for another local towing company that eventually helped us out. After agreeing to tow us, Trevor from Bob's Sunoco called two hours later to tell us that his "truck broke down" and he was not going to make it. If I could leave zero stars, I would. read more

Worst towing service I have ever experienced. The young driver didn't help and left me stranded with my car stuck in the snow. Another towing company took care of the issue in less than 15 minutes. Very unprofessional and the whole experience was a waste of time. read more

"Eeek! Methinks NEVER" I signed up for YELP just to give these guys a bad review. I took my car here for an inspection. It's 2004 Highlander in excellent condition. Never had a problem with it. This tool shed called me 7 hours after it was dropped off and tells me it needs new brake pads and rotars-they're "almost completely gone," he said. (Never heard a squeak-never felt anything weird, btw. It was completely serviced a year ago.) He told me that he would charge me a grand total of ...wait for it... $480.00 to do both front end brakes and rotars, inspect, time for labor AND windshield wipers-that he insisted needed to be replaced. WHAT??? I have had another car towed by them and the guys were nice... But this whole thing really turned me off. Not only did I leave there without an inspection, but now I have to deal with supressing my impulse to flip them off everytime I drive by. It's guys like this that give mechanics a bad name. Taking it to Quick Lube in South Barre (which I've heard excellent things about). read more

They've always done good work, delivered when promised and been honest. They've fixed little things at no charge, like when I've stopped by with a Check Engine or TPMS light on. They work on the state police cruisers, so that tells ya they're good! read more

Service seems to be deteriorating in Montepelier. It's 6:15 PM and I'm still waiting for a tow promised at 2:45 PM . The back office staff in Montepelier were unsymapthetic and in one instance, downright rude. At AAA's suggestion,I'm giving Crosstown towing a try. To be clear, in contrast to Montepelier, Bob"s Waterbury staff shows concern and really seems to try to address customer issues . read more

I would suggest avoiding these guys. I made the mistake of having them try to address a starting problem with my car. 1. Almost 1000 dollars, new battery (first thing they tried, i DO NOT believe it was needed), rebuilt starter (didn't fix problem), 3 separate times bringing the car back over several weeks and finally it turns out it needed a new starter. Still paid full price for the starter at the end, with a tiny tiny bit of labor cost reduction. When I expressed (calmly and politely) my disdain at having to pay anything at all at that point, I was told that they "would take care of me next time". How about taking care of me right now? What kind of idiot would I have to be to take my car back there again, even if I believed that would remember to "take care of me" in the first place?!!?? 2. They were exceedingly rude on the phone, even when I told them that I was waiting for numerous callbacks that never came. I was immediately put on hold many times while I was still speaking. 3. I waited several months to post this, because I didn't want to do it in the heat of the moment. I still think that they took advantage of me. And it if was all just honest mistakes, they should have absorbed some of the cost. Hope this helps someone to avoid a long, painful expensive process! read more

Stopped with a very low tire to get air. The very unfriendly, unhelpful man working 2/14/16 at 2:00 pm said they had no air. Straight up lie. I have lived in Montpelier 20+ years, and have had air for a tire there before. I asked him if he knew who did and he said no. Great customer service - NOT! My girlfriend had the displeasure of getting into an accident on 89 on a very snowy morning. Everything was ok with her, luckily, but the real displeasure was finding out her car was towed by Bob's and having to deal with them. After getting there they determined the car totaled and said they brought it to impound yard and gave us directions to look at car to take personal things out. Well after finally finding the place the car was locked and nobody was there and I called them and was told "oh yes nobody is ever there". When I asked where the keys were she said 'we have them here". I asked why weren't we given the keys and she said.."because you didn't ask for them" So she tells us to take personal things out of the car & doesn't mention that it may be locked and keys are here. I guess I had to do her thinking for her since she wasn't intelligent enough to say you may need the keys. Well after retrieving keys and going back to the car, again on a very snowy day, we find things were stolen from the car by their tow truck driver RODNEY..cash, cd's and you can see he went through the car for whatever else he could find worthwhile. When I called Bob back to report this they couldn't care they said talk to the driver or call the owner, she had NO interest or offered NO apology. So if you're looking to deal with irresponsible, rude & ignorant people, and have a thief they employ, then Bob's sunoco and RODNEY the tow truck driving thief is the place to go. read more

These guys are helpful if your car breaks down or if you lock your keys in your car, but if there is even a hint of snow they will tow your car instantly. These guys seems to be reaping the benefits of the new way that Montpelier does their parking ban and they are nothing but smug about it. I would recommend them if you're in a jam, but they way they handled my car towing makes me never want to call them again. read more

Typically, I receive quick reliable service from Bob's Sunoco. However this time, after scheduling an appointment to have my oil changed and winter tires put on, I am disappointed. I dropped my car off in the morning on the day my appointment was schedule, came back in the evening and found out that they had not gotten to it that day. I brought it back in the next day, and was surprised to find the charge for the tire change was about $20 over what I have paid anywhere else. Very disappointed in the service and cost. read more

Went here for some basic work and eventually a new clutch on my Outback after a friend said they are trustworthy. Now I think my friend is not very trustworthy. Their bills always seem higher than what they quoted, and after they did the clutch, I started having transmission problems a few weeks later. I brought it back and they said that was unrelated from the clutch, but now the engine is MUCH louder! So once the tranny totally failed, I brought it to a different mechanic, and he tells me my gearbox was DRY and I have an exhaust leak (ie-loud engine) from what seems to be from the sloppy work on the clutch. Since then, I've heard other people warn me not to take my car to Bob's for anything except oil and tire changes, but I don't even want to do that. read more
