My sub and sides
Tiffany Y.

Bob's Sub is a casual restaurant that has several locations throughout the Pittsburgh area and has been in business since the 1970s. Their menu lists several types of submarine sandwiches, some salads, and some sides. Prices are roughly several dollars per sub and a couple of dollars per side. I sent my husband to this location to order food. He said that the employees did a good job. We ate the food at home. Here are my reviews for the foods: Totally Turkey sub - 5 stars - The bread was perfectly toasted. My ingredients were simple (I could have added more ingredients if I had wanted to do so), but I greatly enjoyed the flavor of the turkey, lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise. Bob's Delight sub - 3 stars - My husband ate this sub. He seemed to think that it was OK but not as good as Dibella's Subs. The ingredients were capicola, ham, and turkey. Macaroni salad - 4 stars - The noodles were cooked well, and my husband liked that not an excessive amount of mayo was included. Potato salad - 3.5 stars - The potatoes were cooked well and were cut into a good size, but I thought that a little too much mayo was included.

Excellent value and super friendly staff. It's a convenient spot for a quick sandwich higher in quality than your standard subway. Overall quality of ingredients and options are solid, and I appreciate how you can essentially build your own large for just over $10. Dining area has a diner/yinzer vibe...super casual

You always know you're going to get a solid sub when you go to Bob's. The portion for the senior subs is huge and awesome for the price of around $10.25. I enjoyed the spicy Italian, it was fresh and delicious. I felt it could've been a little more toasted, just my preference. And never time I would probably get a sandwich with the legendary mayo like the chicken salad. One of my friends got that and it looked phenomenal. Overall a great time, casual atmosphere and great staff.

Not so good cheesesteak.

I wanted to like this place as it had its own charm, and the two young guys were working hard. But alas, the subs just weren't good. I ordered a cheesesteak all the way but it was so dry I would be surprised to find out if there was any mayo or oil on it and it was supposed to have both. It was pretty packed on a Saturday afternoon and with only the two employees hustling, the tables were a bit of a mess and they were completely out of ice (not sure how that happens). We made the mistake of also trying some donuts, and they are even more fake tasting than what Dunkin offers up.

My son and I got Bob's Subs by North Allegheny High School after watching a state playoff soccer game there. I have been to the original in Slippery Rock several times. I got the Super and my son got the Turkey. Everything was pretty good, but not nearly as good as the original.

I love bobs subs!! My husband and I went to slippery rock and fell in love with this sandwich's there. This is always a treat for us to have. We do like to ask for light mayo because they do lay it on pretty heavily. The spicy Italian with banana peppers and light mayo is our go to. If you're looking for a quick sandwich and something new to try, I high recommend bobs!

I ordered a Buffalo chicken sub on 2/5/22 and it's inedible. Horrible. Asked for light ranch, they didn't put any ranch on. Gave me way too much dry shredded chicken that was definitely Not made today. Tasted more like spicy taco meat dog Food chicken meat. Waste of 9 dollars. Not coming back.

Ever since moving to Pittsburgh I've been told to check out Bob's Sub downtown but haven't gotten around to it. When I saw one went in near me in North Hills I had to go! It is in the same space as Delicious Donuts (which I'll also have to try). I stopped one evening to grab a sandwich to go and settled on a Senior size Spicy Italian and Potato Salad Combo Bob's way which includes mayo and in-house Italian dressing. The sub was huge for the $7.95 price tag and all the meats, cheeses and veggies tasted great and fresh! I really liked the dressing which brought it all together. The Potato Salad was also very good and a decent portion size. Think your standard "Grandma Style" Potato Salad. There ordering system is pretty neat and I've seen it done before at another sub shop in Akron whose name escapes me but I digress...they give you a playing card and when your order is ready, they call it out. King of Clubs! Your order is ready! The only real draw back I saw at all was no one was at the counter when I walked in and I had to shout a little to get someone's attention. Granted it was later on a Sunday night and it was a very young staff. And when my order was called I had to remind them of my Potato Salad because they forgot in the span of 3 minutes...like I said, young staff. But it's ok Bob! Your Sub was worth it! Try for yourself!

Was driving by and saw the sub shop and decided to stop. It was Mothers Day so only a couple customers were inside. The very young man took my order; he was quiet but efficient in getting my chips and drink. I ordered a classic turkey and it was delicious; I asked for no onions or oil and glad the order was correct. The sub was delicious and I enjoyed it. I also ordered a potato salad and it was wonderful! Highly recommend you choose this for a side dish. I enjoyed my visit and highly recommend you stop in.

Examples of menu items are appetizers (e.g., shrimp cocktail and nachos), soups, salads, wings, burgers, flatbreads, entrees (e.g., pasta primavera, chicken, duck, pork chop, swordfish, and A-5 wagyu), desserts (e.g., limoncello and cheesecake), and drinks (e.g., mocktails, cocktails, wines, whiskeys, and beers). My husband and I have eaten here twice--once for lunch last year and once for dinner this year. Both times, we enjoyed the employees' service and the foods. Here are my ratings for what we ate: Passionfruit-Paloma Mocktail - 4 stars - sour. Spring Sangria - 4.5 stars - slightly fruity. Jumbo Pretzel - 5 stars - huge size with beer cheese and mustard sauce. French Onion Soup - 5 stars - This soup had a rich broth, onions, and cheese. Ybor Cuban sandwich - 4.5 stars - nicely crunchy toast with tasty pork, ham, and Swiss cheese and a side of crispy onion rings. Salmon - 5 stars - I ordered this entree both times. The salmon was perfectly cooked and came with flavorful farro grains, cherry tomatoes, and asparagus. Filet Mignon - 5 stars - This 8-ounce steak was cooked mid-rare as my husband prefers. It came with whipped potatoes and his choice of au poivre style (black pepper crusted with bourbon cream).

Excellent Food in a Family-Owned Spot, But Transparency, Noise, and a Few Service Touches Need…read morePolishing (4/5 Overall)** I visited Wexford Public (12087 Perry Hwy, Wexford, PA) recently for dinner with my family, drawn by its reputation as a locally owned, chef-driven American restaurant in the heart of Wexford. Owned by longtime locals John and Melanie Dober, it positions itself as a warm, community-focused spot blending upscale comfort food with a welcoming vibe--think handcrafted sandwiches, premium Black Angus steaks, fresh seafood, flatbreads, and daily specials, all with thoughtful wine and bourbon selections. We were excited for what promised to be a polished neighborhood gem, and in many ways, it delivered. The food was genuinely great and the clear highlight. Our dishes were flavorful, well-executed, and creative without being fussy--fresh ingredients shone through, portions were generous, and everything arrived hot and beautifully plated. It's easy to see why so many reviewers rave about the crab cakes, steaks, and chef specials; the kitchen clearly knows what it's doing. This is elevated American fare that feels special yet approachable, and we'd happily return just for the meals. That said, a few aspects fell short and left us feeling the overall experience wasn't quite as seamless as the food deserved. First and foremost, the billing transparency issue was disappointing. They add a 3% bank/credit card processing fee to the check (which adds up quickly on a family dinner), but this isn't disclosed on the menu, at the table, or in any obvious way during the ordering process. There's only a small sign posted outside the restaurant. We only noticed it when the bill arrived, and it felt like an afterthought rather than a clear policy. In an era where many restaurants are upfront about surcharges (or absorb them), this lack of disclosure came across as sneaky and detracted from the otherwise positive value perception. The atmosphere was another mixed bag. The space itself is attractive--soft lighting, comfortable seating, and that friendly "upscale brew pub" energy the owners aim for. However, it was noticeably noisy during our evening visit. Conversations required raised voices, especially as the dining room filled up, which made it hard to relax and enjoy the meal fully. OpenTable rates the noise as "moderate," but on our night it tipped louder than that, possibly due to the layout or lack of sufficient sound absorption. A bit more attention to acoustics could make a big difference. Service was mostly attentive and efficient, but the management interaction stood out in a negative way. When we politely mentioned the surprise fee at the end of the meal, the response was an apology that felt scripted and insincere--like it had been delivered many times before without real follow-through or ownership. It didn't leave us feeling heard or valued as guests. On a brighter note, the owners John and Melanie genuinely come across as lovely people. The restaurant has that personal, homegrown touch you can sense even when they're not physically present, and locals speak highly of them. They were absent during our nighttime visit, though, which is understandable for owners juggling a busy operation--but their warmth is missed when the front-of-house team is handling everything solo. In summary, Wexford Public excels where it matters most: the food is consistently excellent and worth the trip on its own. The family-owned charm and diverse menu make it a strong neighborhood choice for special occasions, casual dinners, or even happy hour in the cocktail bar. However, clearer communication about the credit card fee (ideally on the menu or bill upfront), better noise management, and more authentic handling of guest concerns would elevate it from very good to outstanding. We'll likely go back for the cuisine, but with tempered expectations on the finer details. If you're in the Wexford area and prioritize great American plates, it's still a solid recommendation--just check the small print before you pay.
