Fresh, Fast, and Flavorful! Stopped by Bob's Subs for a quick bite and grab subs to go, and was seriously impressed! The restaurant was super clean, the service was friendly and fast, and the subs? Absolutely delicious. Fresh ingredients, great portions, and the prices were very affordable--what more could you ask for? An added bonus: The Donut Connection is located inside as well. We didn't grab any this time, but they were well stocked (even in the early afternoon) and looked so tempting. Definitely saving room for those on my next visit! All around, a great spot. We just moved back to the Pittsburgh area, and are trying out all of the places near our home. I really wanted to love Bob's, but it's just okay. The staff was friendly, and the place wasn't filthy or anything, but the subs were just okay. I had a steak "Bob's way" and my wife had a turkey sub. Both were more bread than filling, and mine wasn't very hot. We both also had to wash up at home afterwards due to excessive sauce and mayo. Again, not terrible and certainly convenient for us, but there is better in the area. read more

Bob's Sub is a casual restaurant that has several locations throughout the Pittsburgh area and has been in business since the 1970s. Their menu lists several types of submarine sandwiches, some salads, and some sides. Prices are roughly several dollars per sub and a couple of dollars per side. I sent my husband to this location to order food. He said that the employees did a good job. We ate the food at home. Here are my reviews for the foods: Totally Turkey sub - 5 stars - The bread was perfectly toasted. My ingredients were simple (I could have added more ingredients if I had wanted to do so), but I greatly enjoyed the flavor of the turkey, lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise. Bob's Delight sub - 3 stars - My husband ate this sub. He seemed to think that it was OK but not as good as Dibella's Subs. The ingredients were capicola, ham, and turkey. Macaroni salad - 4 stars - The noodles were cooked well, and my husband liked that not an excessive amount of mayo was included. Been going to a dentist out that way and it was always early morning so they weren't open. We were pretty excited to try it when we had an appointment and they were open ..... however it was not good at all. I got the steak hoagie and i was disappointed that the meat is marinated in something that just didn't taste good. I asked for banana peppers - got none and the cheese was skimpy and not melted. Same with the Italian hoagie. Asked for no capicola - the kid even said "we take it off and add ham". That sandwich was pretty cold and cheese not melted. I was sooo disappointed. You always know you're going to get a solid sub when you go to Bob's. The portion for the senior subs is huge and awesome for the price of around $10.25. I enjoyed the spicy Italian, it was fresh and delicious. I felt it could've been a little more toasted, just my preference. And never time I would probably get a sandwich with the legendary mayo like the chicken salad. One of my friends got that and it looked phenomenal. I wanted to like this place as it had its own charm, and the two young guys were working hard. But alas, the subs just weren't good. I ordered a cheesesteak all the way but it was so dry I would be surprised to find out if there was any mayo or oil on it and it was supposed to have both. It was pretty packed on a Saturday afternoon and with only the two employees hustling, the tables were a bit of a mess and they were completely out of ice (not sure how that happens). Ever since moving to Pittsburgh I've been told to check out Bob's Sub downtown but haven't gotten around to it. When I saw one went in near me in North Hills I had to go! It is in the same space as Delicious Donuts (which I'll also have to try). I stopped one evening to grab a sandwich to go and settled on a Senior size Spicy Italian and Potato Salad Combo Bob's way which includes mayo and in-house Italian dressing. The sub was huge for the $7.95 price tag and all the meats, cheeses and veggies tasted great and fresh! I really liked the dressing which brought it all together. The Potato Salad was also very good and a decent portion size. Think your standard "Grandma Style" Potato Salad. There ordering system is pretty neat and I've seen it done before at another sub shop in Akron whose name escapes me but I digress...they give you a playing card and when your order is ready, they call it out. King of Clubs! Your order is ready! The only real draw back I saw at all was no one was at the counter when I walked in and I had to shout a little to get someone's attention. Granted it was later on a Sunday night and it was a very young staff. And when my order was called I had to remind them of my Potato Salad because they forgot in the span of 3 minutes...like I said, young staff. But it's ok Bob! Your Sub was worth it! First time there... not sure I would head back. The menu has something for everyone although it was a bit confusing. No price for drinks. Ordered the middle sized ham and turkey sub, chips and a drink. I thought it was alittle high bit my fait didn't check the receipt right away. Turns out she charged me for a medium and small sub. Ggrrr. The sub itself could have used more Meat. It was like one slice of turkey, one of ham, a tomato and lots of shredded lettuce. They only have provolone cheese. There are many different sandwiches to choose from, from Italian to roast beef. (My personal favorite is the roast beef). The very young man took my order; he was quiet but efficient in getting my chips and drink. I ordered a classic turkey and it was delicious; I asked for no onions or oil and glad the order was correct. The sub was delicious and I enjoyed it. Drove 20 minutes out of my way to get a sub because the restaurant closes at 8pm. Got there at 7:30pm to see a bunch of teenage boys running around the restaurant messing around. I go in and am told that the store is closed for some reason? Don't put 8pm if you're not open until 8pm. On a side note: I got harassed by the boys who sat at barked at me in their car while I was trying to find somewhere else to go. We found this place quickly when we were driving around looking at houses for sale. The first time we went it was fantastic. Second time, still very good. Third time, we got some new employees and they liked to slather on the mayo so thick the meat slid off the bun. The first time we had the mac salad it was so tasty. We liked that the mayo did not dominate the mac. Second time we had it, someone had overflowed the mayo in the mix and it was not good. The macaroni tasted like wax. We will keep Bob's in the rotation. I must say, toast the bun. I definitely think there is something to their idea of toasting the bun Bob's Way. We hope they can keep some consistent employees. Very cool quirks that make it stand out from other hoagie shops in the area, including the laid-back environment and the way they use a card out of a deck of cards to hold your place in line/call your order! After the (non) service and total lack of attention received this evening we (me, my family, my local employees and anyone that I can influence) will not patronize this combination restaurant ever again.
