Went today to get an oil change on my car. Their special $19.99 oil change is over but with such the great service I will go again and again. The nice gentlemen there were really friendly. Asked if they could check my tires please (they did so for free). Also had said how another shop had fixed this gases being stuck in some part of the car's motor (unsure of what I'm so not a car person) they checked two items and saw nothing was wrong with them but now the car is running smoother. They did this while waiting for the oil to drain and for free as well. They were fast, friendly and knowledgeable. A+ read more

Pulled in with my son's pickup needing to have a belt replaced (that we brought in with us that we had just purchased at a local auto parts store). The guy, Nathan, starts to install the belt and finds that the air compressor (or smog pump) has seized up. So he tells me a "guestimate" price of about $250-300 and I say ok, let's do it, but it's late in the day and the part will have to be ordered. No problem, we leave the truck. The next morning at 9:00am, Dennis calls and tells me that he is going to get it fixed that day, the price has now gone up to $375. Ouch...ok. We wait all day for a call, no call. I finally reach out at 6:30pm and I am told, "Oh yeah, it's not done, the part didn't come in." Okay so we wait another day. On the third day, Dennis calls and tells me a different story, he says that the pump that he ordered came in but it was bad (so apparently he is ordering rebuilt parts) so he orders another one and that one is bad as well, so he orders one that is almost double in price but NEVER calls me to let me know so that I can make an informed decision. He just does the work. Oh, and the belt I furnished was apparently the wrong belt...no it wasn't, it was the exact replacement to the one that broke because we still had the one that was broke, but the one he used was twice the cost as much as the one I provided. $279.10 for a smog pump? I cannot even find one that is that expensive anywhere! The total price including the new belt, "misc. shop supplies", labor and tax was over $470.00!! I feel like I got ripped off. 40$ for a smog check is out of control. guess you can get top dollar when you are one of two places in carson that smog check.

I have an older model Jeep and I know that it won't always smog without a slight adjustment to the carburator. Bob ran the check and failed me, which I proceeded to tell him to go ahead and do whatever he needed to do to make it pass. Well I guess Bob needed money or something because he over-charged me to tune the carburator, for 10 minutes of tuning, I was charged for an hour. He also claimed the seal on my gas cap was bad so he made me replace that too, and I paid twice the normal cost of a gas cap. All told, I got out of there for no less then $250.00 for something every other smog check place charges only $40.00. I would never go there again. read more

If I could give no star I would. This owner is always rude, acts like you are disturbing him to ask for propane and always tries to find any reason NOT to service you. "Well, that depends, how many gallons you need?". Or "you're not going to fill it all the way?" (I was doing a safety check on my class "C" RV . "Well, you still got 5-6 gallons in there" "I'm not sure about those valves". This was from a large trailer where the one owner got the tanks filled in Reno for years without incident. Like I said he always finds a way to get out of servicing customers. Just generally rude abrupt and not a nice guy. Unfortunately he is the cheapest price in Carson but I won't return I've gotten this same treatment. BTW I was always friendly and cordial but he seems to take this as some sign of weakness and is just even more rude. Also he is not Shell franchise anymore. Last I passed he was painting his station non Shell colors. No doubt his relationship with Shell was the same as with his customer's. Finally I would not have written this review had I not given him several chances thought maybe he was just having a bad day but everyday with him is a bad day. read more

The gas pumps at Bob's Shell Service have no overflow safety shut off. My vehicle overflowed about 15 gallons of gas on the ground. They recommended I push my truck away from the pumps before I start it. They then squeegeed the gas into the city drainage system causing the current rain to spread it under the city streets causing a potential volatile situation. Federal law mandates each pump be equipped with overflow safety shutoff protection. It states if the pump is faulty it is to be taken off line until it is fixed. When confronted with the problem they said "We have been having problems with that pimp". They were aware of the safety issue but did nothing to rectify it. This is a very serious safety issue. read more

9/21/2013 I was in South Lake Tahoe for a week long bicycle ride across Nevada. When I arrived in Tahoe I noticed I had a screw in one of my tires but it was too late to get it fixed that night so I figured I could get it done the next day which was Sunday. On Sunday, I did a Yelp search and Bob's Shell station was the ONLY business open to repair tires. So I made the short drive to Carson City to his station. When I arrived his technician was assisting another customer. It was a beautiful day so I chilled knowing my tire would be repaired that day. Soon he was fixing my tire. The technician was good before he took the tire off he marked the stem and weight location. The other great thing is they patch flats from inside the tire instead of a plug. A short time later the tire was back on the car. $26 not bad and the confidence that it was fixed properly. Everyone was super nice and knew what they were doing. So make a mental note Bob's Shell Station is there to help you out! read more

The service I received by Bob and his crew was truly exceptional. Fitting tie chains to my truck proved to be a challenge but Bob wouldn't quit until I had the proper chains which he custom cut for a perfect fit. I was so impressed I will always stop at Bob's Shell service when we visit the Reno Carson area...Thanks Bob... read more

We drove from Sacramento to check out a Jeep we were considering buying. We took the Jeep from the used car lot to Bob's and asked them for a vehicle inspection. Bob's smog checked the Jeep, checked it over, and pointed out a couple of minor issues with the vehicle, nothing too serious. Bob's gave us quick and courteous service and helped us in our purchase decision. They knew we were from out of town and would probably not be regular customers, but it didn't matter, they gave us the same level of service they'd give to someone they'd been serving for years. read more

I was on a road trip when my battery wasn't charging. An auto parts shop tested the battery said I needed a new starter. Bob's Shell was the only mechanic open on a Sunday. After Bob checked he said the starter was good, only needed a new battery, we were back on the road within an hour. Great service. read more
