Drove to Carson City to buy a used Subaru for my son. The Subaru had not been smog for five years, as in California seems to only require it when you change ownership? Anyway, I did not want to purchase this without knowing if it would pass smog. I called and talked to Bob personally. Definitely a good old boy. A bit of a sense of humor along with it. I asked him if he was available to do a quick smog check on the Subaru. He told me he wasn't sure if it was quick, but there was no one in line so I can get right in lol. Took him about five minutes (The Subaru did pass this morning, nothing to do with him, but it was pretty nice about it) it's a bit more expensive in Carson than in Reno. So don't be shocked when you pay $29 for something you get for $20 in Reno. Two days later I get a postcard in the mail thanking us for doing the smog and offering us a free lube and/$100 off on an oil change. Thank you Bob :) read more

I bought some shock absorbers on Amazon and had Bob's Shell install them. He quoted me a price of $75 per axle or $150 + tax (a little high, but OK) and then charged me $312.86 for 1.25 hours of labor ($250.29 per hour.) Stupidly enough, I went back to Bob's Shell to install rear brake pads I bought off Amazon. The mechanic worked very lackadaisically for a job that should have taken 20 minutes per axle. He took an hour and twenty five minutes and charged me $295.14 or $227 per hour. I'm sorry that Christensen is out of business because I always got a fair deal from them. I won't go back to Bob's Shell and I'm still looking for an honest shop. read more

Moved into washoe and found out at DMV that smog is required for registration, so I popped over to Bob's and they got me smogged super quick while I had a snack and chit chatted. Needed tire repaired due to nail. I called several places regarding cost and timeframe for a repair. When I inquired about service, timeframe, and cost, I was pleasantly surprised when I was informed the repair could be done any time, so I rushed over and was pleasantly greeted, informed on cost, waited under 30 minutes, and it was fixed. Not only did they repaired the one nail I knew about, they located a second one. They also informed me that I would need new tires by Fall, not immediately as what the dealership had informed me, so I left as a happy customer knowing I found a reliable, efficient, well-done work, and honest business. read more

Took my car to Bob' Shell in 2018 when I was new to NV; loud knocking under hood. Young man behind counter ignored me. I spoke up asking for mechanic and he said he was, "kinda' sorta". I told him problem and he said Dennis, mechanic, would call me if I left the car. OK, Dennis called next day about the problem, but couldn't give firm estimate and I wanted it in writing. I went back to station, but Dennis was gone and owner, Bob was also gone. Took my car and for next few days, tried to see Dennis or Bob. Each time they were both gone. Learned there is second mechanic, Tommy, Dennis' brother. Long story short: took my car elsewhere and glad I did. read more

Took my truck in for a tire leak. Bob put a plug in the sidewall knowing that wouldn't work and dangerous. Charge me $32 for a plug in sidewall that was flat the next day. Bought a new tire and went back thinking they would make it right. NO charge me another $33 dollars to replace the tire. Long time customer but no more. read more

The absolute most demeaning and awful service I've ever received from a repair shop. They'll be dishonest about what's wrong so they can fix it and charge you for that, just to turn around and tell an even bigger issue. They'll claim they couldn't see the problem without it and go ahead and charge you way over the estimate when they don't even fix the car. The people on the phone have serious attitude problems besides the lady, and they need to do some serious trainings in customer service. You are not the end all be all of car service. Get it together Shell, no one likes dishonesty from businesses. After reading other reviews and the owners responses, it's clear this business is a money grab. After an hour of this guy trying to find the bad fuse I told him to skip it, that I would take my truck to the dealer. I went to the Shell gas station to ask if he had free air because my tire is going flat and it's hard times but the employees were standing on the side doing not a dam thing, I asked if air was free and he said no it's a dollar or get gas then it's free. Now how is it free if I have to get gas? These guys didn't give a shit about me having a flat tire and the safety of other people on the road and myself. Whatever happened to being nice and maybe paying it forward and helping out when times are hard, or being neighborly. I wouldn't recommend anybody go to this shell. The manager should be ashamed of his employees treating future costumers and word of mouth about a good place to go and get gas or anything. I took a trip to the June Lake Loop with the family. On the way there I noticed the tread on my tires was pretty low. Fearing a blow out, I looked for a nearby tire shop. Well, it was Sunday and every shop I could find was closed. I finally found Bob's Shell an gave him a call. Bob was great. He didn't have the tires in stock, but was able to make a few phone calls and found some. So I made the 2 hour, 100+ mile trek to Bob's shop. When I got there, he verified the size of my tires and promptly went to get the new ones. When he got back Bob and his tech put them on. All in all it was probably about an hour wait. Bob and his tech were very nice and did a stand up job. This shell station has an old school shop feel that you just can't find anywhere else nowadays. From a full service gas station, to a shop where you can see them working hard, Bob's does it right. I was in a pinch and Bob of Bob's Shell station saved the day. Came in here a few years back and still recall the terrible service. They refilled my moms AC just charged us a hefty fee and they apparently said that they put the AC in and just let it go through even though they could tell the compressor wasn't working. They said here's the bill sorry about that. I've talked to others with similar experiences, those with good experiences seem they came in for something impossible to mess up. Bozo mechanics working here or a lack of knowledge, either way this place really killed the image of Shell gas stations for me. I really felt the old fashioned aspect from the funny looks I got from literally everyone working there. I vividly remember the faces were dull only to see them almost laughing after they gave us the bill and said nothing else can be done. This is a good old fashioned SERVICE station. You don't see much of these around anymore so you have to appreciate the quality and friendliness that comes with the work ethics of our parents generation. Bob or one of his awesome mechanics (Dennis or Tommy) are always there to take my questions. I have taken my vehicles to them for over five years and they have always been honest about what needs to be done or NOT done. I've never had to take a vehicle back for an issue they fixed. NEVER. In a world where Walmart sells you tires and Jiffy Lube changes your oil in 20 minutes, service stations have slowly disappeared. I trust Bob and his team completely.
