A few days ago, I visited Bob's Muffler in Bakersfield, Ca with a friend of mine who needed some work done on her vehicle. While we were there, the men working on her vehicle provided excellent service and were very professional. However, I was completely shocked when a woman (don't know her name but I believe she is the only woman that works there) approached the men working and spoke to them in such a disrespectful, degrading and extremely embarrassing manner that had me so upset I had to distance myself from the situation because it caused me to have so much anxiety. I waited across the street for them to finish servicing my friends car. I was so shocked by this womans behavior that I told the story to the people who referred my friend to Bob's Muffler and they have seen this woman also treat the employees on multiple occasions the way I described. I don't usually write reviews especially to complain but this womans behavior was so shocking that I had to say something. Any complaints made to the company I believe are first reviewed by this woman so i didn't feel it would do any good. read more

I was very impressed with the service at Bobs. I had a corsa exhaust that I needed installed on an 09 vette and these guys nailed it in 40 mins. Removal of the old one and install of this new one. I was really impressed with how careful they were with my car and how nice they are to the customer. I was also impressed that they are open at 730 am. It seems like most businesses open at 9 at the earliest. I will be returning to these guys in the future for any needs I have on other vehicles also. I wish much success to Bobs! read more

DO NOT COME HERE! unless you want to be ripped off! I come in and ask them how much would it be to do a Muffler delete and they told me $250 each side so it leads up to 500. I said "Oh no thank you then" and I called my friend to know if he knows if good muffler shops and he did and called one them and they said it'll be $65 and I was wow! And I had told them about how bobs Muffler wanted to charge me 500 and he said "Oh Fuck no! , They're just trying to make money" and by the way I shop I called for muffler delete for 65$ was "El Gatos mufflers". I was very pleased with this down-to-earth shop. So I had the displeasure of eventually needing 4 catalytic converters for my two cars to get smogged. I brought my first car, expecting a huge bill and time consuming hassle. Happily, the bill was much smaller than I expected, they showed my exactly what the problem was, and I only waited 20 minutes to it to be done! They tried to test as much as possible so they wouldn't need to replace the other, more expensive, cat. I appreciated their work, and brought my second car to them a few weeks later. Even though they couldn't get a specific part that same day, they seemed sincerely sorry about it, and always displayed a friendly manner. They even diagnosed a separate problem, which wasn't muffler related, that they told me about. I would certainly recommend this place to others. And my mechanic friend mentioned this place to me. Worst customer service ever! I walked in there after talking to someone on the phone to get a part put in the car. When i walked in the shop all the people the were there just ignored me and didnt even asked me if I needed help. After waiting around for a while, some guy walked in looked at me right in my eyes, and just keept walking. How are this people going to make money when they ignore their customers? I just walked out and left. And by the way, one of the mechanics was sleeping in his truck while I needed help! Will not EVER come here Again and I will make sure I tell all my friends about this place. read more

Great job, great price. I would recommend this shop to anyone. I arrived at opening and the employee was there on time, and ready to help me. He was very familiar with the addition (Cat-back) exhaust system I wanted to install and got to work right away. 20 to 30 minutes later it was complete. Received a fair quote, waited in line, and had the work done all in about an hour on a busy Saturday. They know what they are doing, and there is no fuses about it. These guys are great. Despite the older shop in a generally seedy part of town it is obvious they take pride in their work. I had a single chamber muffler installed with a resonator delete on my '05 Hemi Ram and I couldn't be more satisfied. I believe I paid just over a hundred dollars and was in and out in an hour. Let me begin my review by saying that Bob's Muffler did an excellent job installing a complete dual exhaust system on my older Class C RV a few years ago, after getting less than satisfactory work done at D&D Muffler locally in Lancaster, CA. That's why I decided to make the 90 minute drive to Bakersfield and have them fix the exhaust pipe-to-manifold leak (exhaust donut gasket) on my newer 33 foot long Class A RV. Left early in the morning, on a Saturday, and got there at 10:30 AM. They had cars/trucks on every lift in the shop when I got there. So I ask the lady in the office how long the wait will be. She said I should come back later, after lunch. when they're less busy. I asked her if 1:00 PM would be a good time to come back and she says yes. So I leave and have lunch in town to kill some time. Get back to Bob's Muffler at about 1:15 PM, and they again have cars/trucks on all their lifts. They close at 3:00 PM on Saturdays. Walk in and the office lady says that I'm next up, and the wait shouldn't be long at all. At around 1:30-1:40 PM, they have me drive my RV up onto their lift. One of their guys looks for where the exhaust leak is on the left side, and then tells me that, yes, it's leaking past the donut gasket at the pipe-to-manifold connection, just like I suspected, and also a slight leak from between the manifold and cylinder head. So I said "Okay. Go ahead and fix it". Here's where it all starts to go downhill. The guy starts to tell me that he doesn't want to start on the repairs right now because if he tries to take the rusted hex nuts off of the rusted exhaust studs, they might just break the studs off, and that would mean it would take longer to repair because he would then have order new studs from the local auto parts store because they don't have them in stock, and it's too late for them to start working on it, and that I would have to bring my RV back some other day. Right when he told me all that I wondered to myself "What? They don't have 3/8"-16 studs for a Chevy exhaust manifold in stock??? They're the most common exhaust stud for all Chevy small block/big block V8 engines! What kind of muffler/exhaust shop is this???" And so I told the guy, "Well if you break a stud off, you can just simply burn out the broken piece with a torch and thread in a new stud!" Heck, I've seen that done by skilled mechanics at many exhaust shops in the past 35+ years. And the leak between the exhaust manifold and cylinder head can be fixed by simply tightening up all the 3/8" diameter exhaust manifold bolts with a 9/16" hex wrench and deep socket! What??? Apparently this guy at Bob's Muffler must've been one of their newer employees, because he started making excuses to the boss about how he wouldn't have enough time to work on it if he broke a stud, they would have to order the studs from the auto parts store, blah, blah blah. Excuse after excuse. What??? If they let me use their tools and torch, I could've easily fixed it all myself within the last hour they were open, while it was up on the lift. And then to top it all off, when I went to back my RV off of their Bend-Pack lift, their high angled ramp was nice enough to snag onto my drain valve manifold for the waste tanks underneath the RV and broke apart the glued joints on the plastic ABS pipes. Great! Thanks Bob! Bring my RV to Bob's Muffler for exhaust repairs and end up leaving with more damage than when I got there. So my positive attitude about Bob's Muffler went completely out the window that day. I'm guessing that the only thing they're equipped for is basic simple repair work like removing & replacing worn out catalytic converters and mufflers, and to fab and install complete exhaust pipe/muffler systems. Anything other than that apparently seems to be too hard for them to do. I only recognized the lady in the office and one of the workers out in the shop from the last time I was there. Didn't see Bob anymore. It looks like Bob's Muffler is now under a different owner, and they've got a whole different crew of guys working there now. Not the same guys as before. So my long trip to Bob's Muffler turned out to be a complete and total waste of a lot of gasoline in my RV, my time, and the whole day! These days, it seems like if you want anything done, and done right, then you gotta go and do it yourself. Less and less skilled and knowledgeable people out there to fix your car/truck/RV these days. So after I got the RV home, I drove my car down to the local auto parts store and bought 2 exhaust donut gaskets and a set of Fel-Pro exhaust manifold gaskets for the RV. Gonna have to crawl underneath the RV and fix it all myself. What letter comes after "X"??? WHY??? WHY??? WHY??? read more

Had a small hole in my Jeep's exhaust pipe and took it in, the service at Bob's place was so great. They fixed my tiny hole for no cost because they said it was an "easy" fix! I found Bob's Muffler on Yelp last year while I was still live in Valencia, not too far from Bakersfield, but I don't have time to do my custom muffler until today (and I already move to Orange County). Last week, I start contacting several muffler shop by email, no one response except James, the owner of Bob's muffler. He gave me his personal cell phone, I call and text him, he give me a rough quote over the phone and I decide to drive 170 miles one way to Bakersfield to install my custom muffler at Bob's Muffler. James is very friendly, he quote me on the lower range of the price he gave me over the phone, Kimberly the manager is also very friendly and nice, she choose Kevin one of the custom mandrel bent specialist to assist me. Kevin the mechanic do most of the MANDREL Bending and spent 6 hours and skipping lunch to custom make everything and at the end Christian also do a good job helping Kevin with the final alignment of the Exhaust Tips. I am a very satisfied customer. What they did was install an OEM Honda Civic Si resonator and muffler with customer 2 1/4in Stainless Steel (OD) Piping for my Honda Fit, and it was a TIGHT FIT, but they are very patients and make it happen for me. Kevin welding and mandrel bending skill is as good as it can get! I am very happy, worth the drive. Thanks James, Kevin, Kimberly and Christian. After pricing stainless steel kits online or in catalogs I decided to to visit Bobs. Up sized to 3" with a flow through muffler, everything stainless and installed for less then buying and shipping through a catalog! Five stars is not enough! BEST shop in town! If you call the other shops in town ask if they have mandrel benders. If they don't have a mandrel they will press bend your pipes,very sloppy looking, I had another shop put new pipes on my dads truck from the headers back. Now that I have installed a lift kit on the truck I have to cut that system off due to the pipe rubbing the driveline, and also I don't like the press bends. I will take it to Bobs when it is time for the exhaust to be installed. read more

Bob's Muffler is a diamond in the rough. I took my car to have my muffler replaced because it fell off and I thought it was a hole in my original muffler. The guy I was working with said to me let us take a look at and have a seat. They raised my car, look at it, then called me over to let me know it needs a new pipe to be welded on and to keep the original muffler because their was nothing wrong with the muffler other than the scrapes on it from it dragging. The repair was inexpensive and quick. I highly, highly recommend them to do your muffler work. I wish they did other mechanics because his honesty and the work they did is beyond extraordinary. read more

We needed a exhaust manifold installed to our car to pass smog. We bought the part from Pep Boys for cheap. And we took it to Bob's Muffler, who installed it for $100 in about an hour. They did exactly what we asked them to do, and they did it for a very reasonable price. The only confusing time was that I called them at first, and they said they could do it, but when we went there in person, they said they couldn't do it at first, but then they eventually said they could do it. It was confusing, but they eventually did it, so it was okay. read more

Drove down from Clovis, CA. (about 125 miles) to have a mandrel bent exhaust system installed on my 2010 F150 FX4. After researching various shops around California I decided to go with Bob's for 3 main reasons; 1: Longevity in the industry. 2: Mandrel bending machines and the extensive experience to use them properly. 3: Price. I was not disappointed. Work took some time but this is to be expected since it was not a quick muffler swap (I wanted a SI/DO system) and I am picky. The crew at Bob's is very friendly and they definitely know what they are doing. The price for my setup was also quite a bit below even lesser equipped shops. I will definitely be referring this shop to family/friends. If you want a mandrel bent exhaust system, want it installed by folks with a LOT of experience, and want a great price...go to Bob's Muffler in Bakersfield. read more

I drove from San Jose to have a downpipe installed and a mandrel bent exhaust system fabricated for my 1995 F250 diesel. I was told on the phone that both of these tasks would be no problem, and to "come on down." Upon arrival, I talked to Jim, who told me straight up that he refused to install the downpipe on my truck. After I questioned him about the information I received on the phone, he then insisted that it was James who I had talked to. He then quoted me $375 for what I wanted (downpipe install and 4" straightpipe back from the downpipe) and announced that it would take until 6 PM. (it was 9:30 AM at the time.) After this, James came back from a parts delivery and insisted that he had never said they would do a downpipe install on a 1995 F250 on the phone, which was an outright lie. He also refused to attempt the downpipe install. In the end, I just got a 4" straight pipe mandrel bent for the truck. They charged a very reasonable $179 installed, and included a section of 4" straight pipe for free when I offered to buy some for another project. I will give them the credit that they deserve; the work they do really is awesome, and the fact that they mandrel bend is a huge plus in their favor. However, the poor service and phone information is enough to make me slaughter them in the overall rating. If you do go down there, expect to be treated poorly; however, your exhaust work will be mandrel bent and top notch. read more

I had ordered a custom exhaust for my Jaguar and stopped by Bobs to get an idea of the cost to install it. It was my first time there and I was kind of taken back by the facilities. The places is very old, all the work is done outside on lifts that are probably just as old as the building. There are take off parts stored all over the place. I was impressed with their knowledge and the information they gave me on the installation. When the kit arrived I stopped by another local shop that had done work for me before. I showed them the custom exhaust, but they were reluctant to attempt the job as they were not comfortable with the directions and working on a performance Jaguar. So back I went to Bobs, though still a bit concerned because the look of the place. Well they put the car up on the rack, looked at the exhaust and the directions and said no problem. They did the job in a little over an hour, were reasonable, and did a good job. Bobs is a great example of the old saying " you can't always judge a book by it's cover". read more

I took my Honda Accord to get fixed. They got my car right up and took a look at it and told me that it was just low on anti-freeze. The gentleman added some in for me and when I went to the office to see how much, they told me I didn't have to pay anything. So when I heard a strange noise from my muffler, I knew where to go. I have an old 1966 mustang which had an exhaust manifold leak on one side of the dual exhaust. First of all they did not tell me it was too old or not their work so they could not touch it. Instead they took a look and then put a new donut ring between the manifold and pipes for only $40 while I waited. Many shops wont work on old cars but this place can handle just about anything. They had several outdoor racks going and did a lot of big 4x4 truck work. I also listened as a customer with an Infiniti sportscar asked them to custom repair a system which was never done right by someone else. While I watched they bent the proper crossover and had him fixed right away. I heard them clearly explain his options and their suggestion on how to do it properly as well as what was wrong with how it was done by someone else. These guys know their business and can likely fab anything needed and their prices are reasonable. read more
