Another awesome experience at Bob's! Affordable car care without worrying about being ripped off or hustled into buying things for my car I don't need yet. Fast, friendly, efficient service. My wait time was less than expected. They have a lovely air conditioned waiting area with comfy couches, a table and chairs, TV, free WiFi, free beverages (Keurig & Espresso maker), and a big calming fish tank. There's also a cute outdoor waiting area which I used intermittently to tan my legs and vape. Everyone there are professional and super accommodating. Matt, auto technician, fixed my car and came to get me personally, enjoying a very pleasant chat. What a beautiful personality he has as well as automotive expertise! Bob Repair today is the last day I deal with them. I will be taking away from your 3 more clients. First they say they are going to rotate the tires and they DON'T do it, but they charge you be aware of that. Second incident and the last- oil change and tire rotation on 1/13/25 mechanic DID NOT tighten the tires correctly which could have been a major accident on 1-4 or I-75 I can't believe it. I recently had a bad experience dealing with Bob's Auto Repair in Clearwater. Attached are several photos to document my narrative. I do not write many reviews. I need to have really good service or really bad service that inspires me to share my experience. Sorry to say Bob's, but this is that - "less than one star" -review. I am the property manager for Toby. Because Toby travels non-stop, a friend of Toby's that was visiting from California (Tim) brought Toby's 2019 VW Golf to Bob's for an oil change. Here is where the bad experience begins! The mechanic installed a new plastic oil drain plug ($14.99) and conceivably over torqued on installation, causing a fracture in the oil plug. VW mounts a large full pan shroud under the motor that allowed a large amount of oil to gather before leaking out. The car was not driven for several weeks. Eventually the leaking engine oil filled the shroud and oil covered the garage floor. Gad! What a huge mess! The engine oil dipstick registered no oil in the motor so I had to have the vehicle towed to the VW dealer. Fortunately the car is under warranty including towing, or that alone would have cost over $200. The conclusion report from the VW dealer was that all the motor oil had leaked out from the cracked drain plug. VW uses a specific tool for plug removal & installation. Note that the drain plug can be removed and installed with a flat head screwdriver, but this risks damage to the plastic plug. This is a condition seen infrequently from non factory technicians that might not be versed in the nuances of installing these plastic oil plugs. The VW dealer cleaned the entire mess up and performed an oil change. I drove the car directly to Bob's. I dealt with the Manager, (Christian) and explained the situation to him with Volkswagen's findings and repairs. I gave him copies of the Bob's invoice and the VW invoice along with photos of the VW findings. We were fortunate, towing was under warranty but I requested Bob's pay the $83.36 that I had just paid to VW to perform the oil change. Christian was apologetic for this service mishap and said; no problem they would pay the $83; however! He could not simply give me the money. It would have to go through accounting. If the story ended here, I would not have written this review. Accidents happen. The mechanic probably doesn't do many oil changes with a plastic drain plug. Bob's is owning up to it. The end. But sadly not the end of the story. After 10 days I had not received the "alleged" check. I went into Bob's shop and spoke with Christian. He apologized. He had forgotten to tell accounting to send me the check, but he would take care of that right now! After another week I phoned Bob's and got Christian on the phone. This time he told me that they indeed were sending a check but it could only be sent to the original party. They had sent the check to TIm. I thought this was odd, as other than TIm's credit card, there was not even an address for Tim on the paperwork, and... if they were going through that much trouble, why would they not just credit $83 to TIm's card? And.. I was clearly the documented party that paid VW the $83 that I was requesting. After another week or so I called Tim. He had not received a check. I phoned Bob's and spoke with Christian. Christian says the accountant sent the check but had the zip code wrong and got the check back. Then.. about 10 days later (after checking that Tim had not received a check), I phoned and spoke to Christian again. Believe it or not!... the second time Bob's sent the check out, again was returned to them! I told Christian that this is ridiculous. He had a different story every time I contacted them. It is now been over 5 weeks since my initial visit to Bob's. After speaking to Tim; No Check. I phone Bob's and speak to Christian. Christian has lost any sense of customer service at this point. He snarls to me over the phone. To quote; "He is tired of my bad attitude every time that I phone. "it's not a different story every time! its the same story, and don't ever call Bob's again!! - call Tim". He hangs up on me. Um... Wow!... I am shocked and a bit numb. Summary; On the positive side; Bob's Auto repair is a nice looking shop. It is clean and at first contact they were friendly. On the negative side!... The oil change at the VW dealer was $83.36. Superficially Bob's was the same price, but add those pesky fees that Bob's charges of "shop supplies" and "diagnostic aids" and you are up to $97.04, yes... MORE than the dealer charges. And.. did the mechanic's unfamiliarity with a plastic oil drain plug or installation possibly cause this failure? If you have an issue with a failure of auto service work that you get done at Bob's, are you going to have an experience like I had? Maybe worse? And, this thought... What do we look for when dealing with an auto repair shop? Price? Integrity? Honesty? In my experience Bob's has failed all of these benchmarks. read more

I am sorry to have to retract my earlier rave review for Bob's auto repair. Apparently there's been a change of ownership and definitely a change of service. My former customer service rep was Mike and he was amazing! Conscientious, professional, friendly, honest, and very thorough. I took my car today for an oil change I've had done several times before and not only was there a misleading coupon: The coupon said $49.99 for full synthetic but when I went to pay I was told it was $69... What is the extra $20 for? "Oh rags and supplies" I was told by customer service rep Jen. I protested mightily as that is misleading and shifty pricing - should've been included in the price - when I got home I pulled out a prior receipt & the same oil change was done for $43 including tax only a few months ago. The girl, Jen was unfriendly, sour, and not thorough. She didn't go over the condition of my car as Mike always had or make any recommendations for a future service - she just didn't care. When I got home I realized that the windshield wiper fluid had not been refilled so apparently no fluids were checked, and there was no sticker telling me when I should get my next oil change. I brought my car into Bob's Auto Repair on the morning of Thursday, June 1st to fix the windows which were not rolling down. I was assured that they could diagnose and fix these issues before the weekend. I picked up my car on the afternoon of Friday, June 2nd, which I was then informed they could not fix my car windows without thousands of dollars of repairs. I refused the extra service, paid for my "inspection" and left. On my drive home I realized that all the electronic components of my car were inoperable. Headlights, center console, and electronic transmission all were broken and behaving erratically. leaving the vehicle inoperable. Christian the mechanic refused to accept responsibility and claimed the car was already broken which was a blatant lie.
