I feel bad leaving a poor review but after spending almost $30 for the very scrawny portions received I'd at least hoped it would be excellent cuisine but no such luck. When I walked in the door and the place was empty, not one customIer it worried me but it was too late to back out because the lady at the counter was fixated on us. I ordered an appetizer crunchy egg roll (3) one crunchy teriyaki chicken meal and one spicy beef number. The beef tasted old and tough, was terrible and couldn't finish it. The teriyaki chicken I didn't try it because the portion was so small I didn't want to take any from my girls (5 and 8yo) and ended up having to make them another meal shortly after because there was such a small amount. The egg roll was meh at best. Sorry Bobo I won't be returning I feel slightly disrespected that someone would serve something so terrible, shameful really. read more

Great restaurant and great owners! Stopped by today to grab a chicken banh mi sandwich to go. I was very surprised to find the restaurant empty at noon. The owner took my order and then chatted me up while I waited. My sandwich is LOADED with flavor and spice, just the way it's supposed to be! I'm hesitant to even give this place one star. I was driving from the Bay Area to Grass Valley and stopped for a quick lunch. What a mistake! My chicken salad came with a bad smelling dressing and my nephew's lunch special tasted like it was reheated in the microwave oven. The lunch special was supposed to include hot or iced tea that was not even offered. When we dared asking about it, our server's response was: "You didn't ask for it!." We asked for it to go, and were dryly told that there is a .50 cent fee for that. In short, awful food and worse service. read more

Come here only if you're desperate and starving, otherwise I would not recommend. Broth was very bland, had hardly any meat, and the little meat there was in the pho Thai is not the thinly sliced beef u get at a real pho joint, I'd say more like a week old brisket and the seafood pho had mostly dried up chicken and maybe 2 tiny shrimp. Also, their large size is more like an extra small. The Thai iced tea was watered down with hardly any milk. My daughter had their grilled beef with rice (didn't come with any side veggies) which is on the lunch menu special, but they charged us full price. She didn't really like it but I forced her to eat half of it, which she threw up an hour later. Yep, that's how bad it was! I am very excited that Bobo's Cafe is open again. They have wonderful luncheon specials Monday through Saturday for $5.99. Their dinner menu is delicious. They're open from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday. I highly recommend this restaurant for Vietnamese cuisine. read more

As a former Auburn resident for 12 years, I feel obliged to defend this place. The food is not the best in Viet cuisine, but generally tasty and reasonably priced. I found none of the criticisms (poor service, filthy, cold food, lack of fluency in English) to be justified. The Vietnamese espresso is just as good as elsewhere. Besides, there are no other Viet restaurants anywhere in town. I say give it a try. read more

We have been eating at Bobo Cafe in Auburn since it opened and it is a great, fast and cheap place to eat. Sometimes the chicken in the dish I normally eat is a bit on the dry side but other than that Bobo's is a great value. Service wise not so much.. I feel sorry for the first timers, they have no idea what to order and the wait staff have no interest in helping them. If the wait staff smiled at all, there business would go up twenty percent. If they helped people order and added just a bit of personalty business would double. Try a #51 and mix some fish sauce with the hot sauce.. Soak the egg role.. Yum. read more

It's really hard to hate a place, especially after only one visit, but this is as bad as they get. Run, don't walk away! I was in the mood for some Vietnamese chow, and have passed Bobo Cafe what seems like hindreds of times. When you walk in, there are sever "Best Of" accolades. Obviously, they are older than the dirt on the restaurant's windowsill. The place was empty, and now i know why. It was a seeming eternity before I even got a menu and even longer until an order was taken. The only timely event thru the meal was learning that the soda machine was out of order. It took forever for the food to arrive. Guessing that they cooked it quickly and just left it sitting in the kitchen as it was totally cold. When I say cold food, I mean not a hint of warmth as if it had been sitting out for quite a while. Additionally the "fresh" vegies served with the meal amounted to some lettuce and bean sprouts. "Fresh," I guess, is relative. They were in fact quite "fresh" a couple of weeks ago but now slightly brownish. Oh well, guess I got there too late. At the end of my meal, they of course brought the bill to me but never came back to take payment... Again, it is rare that I have absulutely nothing positive to say about a restaurant. After all, it was sustinance. This is one case where I am safely stating that the place is awful. read more

I am VERY fond of good Vietnamese food and enjoyed it every chance I got when I was living in Hollywood, Calif. The best restaurants there were always jam packed with enthusiastic patrons, most of whom were Vietnamese (always a good sign). I was excited to find a Vietnamese restaurant in Auburn so I decided to try it before bringing my wife here for a meal. Large restaurant but I was one of only 5 people there for lunch. I ordered two entrees to make it a good test - pho and vermicelli. Both were completely unremarkable. They didn't taste bad, they just didn't taste. Ingredients were sparse and dull. I was very disappointed. Waiter was very unenthusiastic and distant. Cheap food that will fill you up, but that's about it. What a shame. Two courtesy stars because I'm comparing it to world class Vietnamese restaurants and don't want to be unfairly critical. read more

Disclaimer: I've never ever had a meal in a Vietnamese restaurant that I've enjoyed. Don't know why; I love Thai and Chinese, there's just something off with me and Vietnamese cuisine - and I don't get the pho craze at all. Second trip to Bobo Cafe. The first trip was before they closed for remodel. The food was decent, and we ordered what we thought was a lot, but this is the only time I've ever eaten in a restaurant where we were still hungry when we got in the car - we went and had another full dinner at El Agave! Anyway, seeing as Bobo was open again decided to give it another shot. Saturday evening, the place was deserted. We were the only table for a while. Predictably, the prices went up on most menu items about $1.55, but sadly, they weren't worth the additional pricing. Special on chow mein, $10, but it came as a very small serving for the price, and wasn't very good. The entree meats came sauteed with onions, no other vegetables, and several of the onion slices were the papery outsides so that rendered them inedible. As someone else noted, the summer rolls (shrimp rolls they are called on the menu) were very sparse, one small shrimp, no mint, carrot, Thai basil, etc. Even the fortune cookies weren't very good. Service was 5 stars, ultra friendly and attentive. Homemade boba tea was delicious. It's in a location that if you are zipping by on 49, you'll miss it unless you know where it is and make it a destination. The Thai place across 49 has much better viability and when we left Bobo, their parking lot was packed. I would love to see Bobo make it with their return, but hard to say if they will. read more

We loved this place. We had the spring rolls for an appetizer, they were wonderful and the sauce was so yummy. I had the sliced chicken with asparagus. The chicken was very tender, and the asparagus was crispy. My husband had curry chicken with roasted peanuts in an awesome sauce. We totally enjoyed our meal. The prices were excellent. They advertise lunch special for only 5.99 but they only have a few choices.. chicken with noodles or pork with rice or vegetarian. Delicious and fresh-- the service was remarkably friendly and gracious. Highly recommend the chicken with bell peppers and cashews (add broccoli), as well as the bean sprout cake and spring rolls. Great food! I don't know what everyone else's problem is. My family and I really wanted Pho, but Pho King Good was closed that day, so we went to Bobo. My family had been a long time ago, but it was my first time. I had the Wonton Soup, and my family had the Combination Pho and a crepe-like thing that we forgot the name of. We also shared the shrimp spring rolls. Everything was delicious. The toasted garlic in my soup was a godsend for the cold I had, and the peanut sauce with the spring rolls was delicious. The ambiance isn't amazing, but the staff is kind, and it was mostly empty when we were there. Don't be scared of the bad reviews, give it a try! It's super reasonably priced too. read more

I've been to the Sacramento and Carmichael locations over 25 times each and their food is amazing. I am a regular #11 and #73 orderer. My buddy religiously orders #69, also a tasty meal. It hurts me to give Bobo's a 3 star rating but the quality varies too much from week to week. Sometimes it's a 5 and others time a 1. We enjoy the grilled meats but on one visit they are lean and moist then another dry and fatty. Service is always rather poor. Sick so decided to find a Vietnamese restaurants out here to eat. And only found one. This place is so nasty. The bowl of noodles were so small and the soup taste like its all MSG and fish sauce added with by water I got a number 2 a beef noodle soup. While ordering he tried to push us into getting appetizers we didn't even want but he insisted to write it in till he got the point of NO means no. And I wouldn't be complaining but the service was not good. Food was nasty even for 6.45 for a bowl of noodles. I wouldn't usually mind paying for, if it was good. AND for 2 bowls of noodles was 17.50 all together, and it was 6.45 each so 12.90 all together I asked him why it was so much he said because of the 2 hot tea!!! 4.60 for a green tea bag in a teapot and 2 teacups which we didn't even really touch. I would NEVER go here EVER again. And I'm usually always tipping people when I go eat but I didn't even bother to. Leave a tip because it was that bad! NEVER AGAIN! They don't even deserve one star! Ordered lunch special - chicken over rice noodles. Came with only a few small pieces of dry chicken that looked as if it had been sitting under heat lamp. Egg roll looked same way. Salad lettuce was brown at edge along with green onions. Didn't realize the lack of food this meal came with until I returned to office. This place was just terrible. Nothing like the many other Vietnamese restaurants I have been to. It was not very clean inside either. We were afraid to touch anything because of the visible dirt. When our dishes arrived came there was hardly any meat. I asked for chili sauce and it seemed weak. When I asked the server about he said the hot sauce was too hot for people so they add water. It seemed like they watered down the whole dish as there wasn't much to it. Just a little bit of noodle, not much meat and a sauce that was very sour. Terrible! I had always wanted to try Bobo for lunch but 2 of the women I work with recommended against it. One of the other women was willing to go. I usually like to try something and judge it myself. I'd been to the Bobo in Sacramento and it was awesome. Like people said already, the place is filthy. The table cloth was stained and gross. My table wasn't clean and I asked him to clean it off. He brings out a bottle of cleaner and proceeds to spray it on the table without removing anything. I had to quickly grab my plate so it didn't get 409 on it! Yeah, one guy doing everything. He acted like we were a bother when we asked for anything. Oh and he did try to push appetizers as already mentioned. My plate of food was barely warm when I got it. It was "okay" otherwise, nothing great. As said below...sparce ingredients. My friend's bowl had grilled chicken which was super dry and over cooked - I could see by looking at it. I'm really not a negative person. I'll usually give a restaurant a second chance but this one was so bad, I definitely won't go back. Don't go, it sucks. read more

To bad this place is only 2.5 stars, I actually had a great experience. The place was very clean, our waitress was very nice, the Pho was smaller portions than most places but the price was less than most places also. The FLAVOR was the best I've ever had!!! Honestly! The broth was perfect I didn't have to add anything to it!!! Yummy yummy! I got the wonton egg noodle soup but had to order a plate of veggies to add to it. My mom and sister are pretty funny. They actually like this place. 1. The place is filthy! It just looks dirty and I even had some black speckles floating around in my drink! yuck! 2. The owner takes everyones orders, makes food, delivers, fills water, takes checks...... He doesn't hire any help! And to make it worse, he barely speaks a word of English! If you want a special request, forget about it! 3. The food and portions are decent but don't expect to be able to alter the dish in any way, because he will probably not understand what you're saying but rather nod his head and sort of pretend he knows what you're getting at. 4. The "Vegetarian" dishes come with fish sauce in a little plastic container which of course is not vegetarian. He likely cooks those same meals in meat based broths as well. I wouldn't suggest it..
