Okay, since the passing of the torch from Bobby Guccione, this place has not missed a beat. I actually got a chance to speak with one of the owners who checked up on me and how I was doing with by beer, etc. very friendly fellow and cares about his customers, which is always great. He also speaks the language of us Beer geeks and gave me his opinion on some of the beers on tap, which was real cool. Still seeing a lot of the regulars that come in here and they also still look happy. I also love the variety of what's on tap; I love IPA's, but also Stouts, Porters, red ales, pretty much anything interesting and boozy. Keep up the great work guys! read more

They do a pretty good pizza. The crust it tasty, the sauce is solid and not overly sweet. The pizza tends to be quite oily, however.

ive had real NY pizza and I hate when places claim its real NY pizza when its not. But this is the real deal. The crust is amazing and the ceasar salad is to die for. They have really big TV's and i like that you can watch big events. I actually came here a few years ago to watch the obama election and it really seems like a community place. I love the atmosphere here. Everyone's just there to have a good time. I love the Sweet Italian Sausage Pasta (is that what it's called). It's the most amazing thing ever. Picked up a meat combo pizza. Bar staff was very friendly. Pizza was just ok. Toppings were good enough but the crust was burnt. Like burnt burnt. I understand a little char but this was not cool. Maybe train the cook to remake it if he burns the hell out of it boss. read more

GEEZ this place offers a huge variety; there are pizzas (NY-style, Sicilian, Pan-Fried), paninis, sandwiches, salads, and desserts! There will ALWAYS be something on the menu that will get your appetite going. We ordered 2 small signature pizzas (Margherita and Paradise Pie). The Margherita was simple and good. I enjoyed the Paradise Pie more; the mango puree was definitely an interesting twist to the classic Hawaiian but it tasted great. The mango taste added to the sweetness of the ham but was not overwhelming. For the 4 of us, it was about $10 for each person. Portion size was not enough since we were fairly hungry that day. A few of us ordered additional cheese slices to get full. Servers were very friendly and ATTENTIVE. I'm notorious for needing MULTIPLE water refills when eating. The guy learned my drinking pattern after 2 empty glasses, and for every glass afterwards, he was SPOT ON with timing for swinging by to refill my glass. Kudos to him!" read more

For what it is--a great neighborhood gem. Pliney beer. Live bluegrass band. Wonderful mushroom ravioli and breadsticks (surprisingly not great pizza) and oh so cheesy cheese filled breadsticks. I have frequented Bobby G's about ten times, and none of them were at my suggestion. With that being said I think it can be summed up by saying it has a good atmosphere with mediocre food. Mom and I decided to walk around downtown Berkeley. I saw a bookstore that I wanted to explore but it was ready to close a minute after I arrived. So, I walked a little more and saw Bobby G's. My mom is more hesitant about restaurant food but I am less cynical than good ole Mama. The service was prompt and courteous. When I raised my finger to get a knife, the gentleman quickly acknowledged me. Here's what you really want to know: Mom chose the chopped salad and a slice of pepperoni pizza with a fountain Cherry Coke. I selected chicken Alfredo with a green salad and a fountain Cherry Coke. There really isn't anything special about this restaurant, especially when Arinell's is right up the block. It reminds me of Gypsy's equivalent of Pizza. The workers are nice, there's a TV going with games, they serve beer but the pizza is simply meh. Just nothing special about it. This place gets 5 stars for their beer selection and happy hour prices alone. Pliny the Elder and several other phenomenal beers for a great price during their long happy hour. I wouldn't really suggest the happy hour pizza -- cheese slices, which are nothing special -- but their other combo pizzas are bomb. I was looking for a vegan pizza with vegan sausage, and this was the only one I found in the area. The sausage was actually quite good. The soy cheese? Not so much. It made the crust, which was great at the edges, into a wet paper mache' in the middle. Bobby G's is the bees knees. Beer, pizza and sports, what more do you need? It's close to Bart and open til 2am on Fridays/Saturdays , so it's super convenient for a late night bite. Pricing is very reasonable and the service is always great. This is the best spot to watch a game too, lots of tv's! read more

I'm in love with their fried crust pizza..makes it firm and crispy the way it should be but still has a great dough flavor. I always get the personal size with meat and mushrooms. They have a great selection of craft beers which you don't always find in a pizza joint. Great place to watch the game. read more

The first problem I have with this place is that the owners think that honey is vegan. As anyone knows, honey is the product of a bee, not a plant, hence not making it a vegan product. Anyways, I've been here three times and as a vegan it is an adventure finding vegan pizza. The last time I was there though I ordered a small vegan veggie pizza and a side salad for 6 dollars (the salad wasn't even that big or filling!!) and after spending nearly 20 bucks on my food, I was starving an hour later and had to go to Smart Alec's and get something else to eat!! The ravioli was good, but I wouldn't say it's worth the 13 dollars to eat. read more

Nice spot! I joined some friends for a light dinner here last night, and I was pleasantly surprised by this lovely establishment. I had the baby green salad with chicken, and my boyfriend had the fettucini alfredo with chicken. Both were delightful. They have a great beer and wine selection, though I opted for a Numi Gunpowder Green Tea, being the driver for the night. I loved the ambiance and can see it being a great place for a football game, with the flatscreen tvs. I will definitely be back! read more

This place is tasty and has a great $5 1 slice and a small salad special. And, the garden salads have candied walnuts in them! How fancy is that? They also have a pretty good happy hour with cheap pitchers and slices, lots of brews on tap. Me and a friend came here this past weekend to try it out. He wanted some pizza and this was the closest place to us. It was our first time there so it took a minute to figure out what to get. We just ended up with a thin crust pepperoni. I liked the thin crust but the pizza was just okay. I would definitely try more interesting toppings next time and their pasta. The soy "cheese"! It's not really anything like pizza cheese, more like a gently herbed ricotta. A bold and wise move: vegan imitations of mozzarella are always plasticky and disappointing. I think it might be house-made too. read more

We love Bobby G's. The pizza is delicious, sauce has a good flavor, they are gracious about doing two different sets of toppings for our two preferences. They are not cheap, but it's our favorite local pie (we like it even better than Cheeseboard). We tend to get our orders to go and they are great about getting a complicated order correct every time. Their salads are excellent. Huge fan of the caesar (I prefer the vegan caesar dressing, better flavor) -- I always request no pepper because otherwise it's far too peppery; also love the greek salad. My husband loves the green salad with candied walnuts and peppers. The greens in their salads are always fresh and crisp, much more so than I'd expect from a sports bar. Nutella and banana dessert pizza is delightful. The only negative is that sometimes the pizzas are a bit scorched on the bottom. We've started asking for half-baked pizza and doing the rest of the cooking ourselves. read more

Good place to catch a game on one of their TVs over a drink. I didn't go with the pizza, but with the arugula salad with goat cheese, sunflower seeds and figs. The salad was too dry and only 10 sunflower seeds were coutned in it along with one lonely fig. The chicken wings weren't memorable either. Grabbed a couple slices a while ago and overall it was fine. The slices weren't bad, and I really enjoyed the crust. They were a bit small for the 3 dollar + tax price tag and the toppings seemed to be just thrown on there, not baked with the pizza. I brought a group here in the early afternoon, and it was busy but we got a decent table. The food was tasty as usual, arrived quickly and was cheap at that. It turned out to be a nice, neutral place to converse for half an hour. The ambiance was a bit weird, being a cross between a dinner-place and a sports bar that already had locals sitting at the counter during the brightest hours of the workday, but I gotta love Bobby G's anyhow -- the most consistent pizza place I've been to in Berkeley, and my favorite. We finally tried Bobby G's and I'm not sure what took us so long! We decided to just go with the Vegetarian specialty pizza vegan style with their house made soy cheese which was like a ricotta. The pizza was a beauty and was covered with nice fresh veggies, olives, and herbs. It was very tasty and and we really liked the crust.
