Pretty good pizzas here (pie with clams I think the best), but not great. The entrees are hit and miss. The big draws here are lively atmosphere, good selection of beers, and several screens for sports fans. I give an extra star for their Tuesday night blues/rock open mic, and Wednesday night's trivia game (if you're a newcomer, don't blurt out the answers!). I noticed a couple of posters complaining about their dishes. I had a bad experience with a chicken entree. As a semi-regular I mentioned it to Bobby and I got a $5 dollar off coupon for the future (the dish was only 7.99 at the time). Not a real refund, but at least a gesture on his part. read more

This is my first review on yelp, and it is Bobby G's restaurant that has inspired to get the account and start reviewing places. In short, this place is awesome. The pizza's are great (the best I have had in Berkeley) and they have a long list of good toppings (my favorite the fresh jalapenos). The pasta dishes are pretty great as well. But, what makes Bobby G's really 5 star worthy is the friendly inviting atmosphere, great owner and workers and the clean, open environment. I go there often with a magazine or to watch a game at the bar with other similarly interested people from all over. The owner is extremely friendly, kind and funny; and you can tell he is passionate about his restaurant. Bobby G's is an fabulous local bar/restaurant! My boyfriend and i live a block away and think of this place as an extension of our living room. Only, much...classier =) Or like our version of Cheers. Great beer! Awesome food and desert! Their Caesar Salad Pizza is one of my favorites! They also have live music from time to time, free wi-fi, a wine bar, and a very comfortable and fun atmosphere. I go there to study, get work done, watch a game, or to have a night out with my friends. I definitely recommend this place, as you will see it is very popular with the locals! And almost always full. The owners Robert and Heather are absolute sweet hearts who often stop to talk and check in with the regulars (which there are many). I can't believe I've been here for so long and never written a review of this place. They do a pretty great job of hooking up the vegans here. Last time I came was with my lady friend and we got slices and split a vegan ceasar salad. They were nice enough to split the salad up for us, that's always appreciated. I like their vegan cheese (really garlicy!) and I like that they have beer. I think I still prefer lanesplitter's pizza joints, but this is a great place and I should come here more. read more

Another decent slice of pizza, but the owner was rude. I was sold a pitcher of pilsner, and asked to surrender my table to other patrons who wanted pizza while I waited for my guests. Ten minutes later, my guests finally found parking, but we had no table, just a fat tab. I pass by this pizzeria frequently, but I don't eat or drink there. Decent pizza and good beer are easy to come by in Berkeley; however, lousy service and rude behavior always determine the final verdict. read more

My wife and I randomly chose this place to have dinner last night because we needed something near the Berkeley Rep, where we were waiting to see a show, and Bobby G's was just around the corner. I'm vegan and my wife is not so it's exciting when we find a place that seems to have a lot of options for both of us. And there really are a lot of vegan options, especially for an Italian restaurant. I had the spinach ravioli and it was excellent. The sauce was creamy and exactly what I wanted. The salad that came with it was also very good. The staff is very friendly and they helped my wife find a glass of wine she liked. The atmosphere is relaxed, they play nice music, and overall I felt very comfortable there. I wish I lived closer to Berkeley so I could come here more often, but despite the long drive I fully intend on going back soon so I can try the soy cheese pizza. read more

I live right down the street from Bobby G's, and my roommates and I would agree that it is our favorite go-to pizza spot in Berkeley. We like trying new places, but somehow we always end up coming back to Bobby G's. We're happy and full after eating at Bobby G's. Usually our pizza is made in a reasonable time, it's convenient to order to-go, and the staff has always been super pleasant. My favorite pizza is the buffalo chicken pizza. Additionally, we're pretty new to the bay area. Often times we have visitors and we enjoy bringing them to Bobby G's. read more

In my quest to find good takeout gluten free pizza, I tried Bobby G's recently. They use Mariposa dough so I figured it would be pretty good. The crust was decent, the toppings were very fresh and flavorful and they tend to give you a decent amount of toppings. But, at around $25 for a small gluten free pizza, it's so pricey that I probably won't be grabbing pizza from here again :( read more

Never going back to this Weird pizza place two blocks from Berkeley campus. We ordered two pizzas, one arrived and the waiter said "Hey, if this isn't good we can make another one." The pasta here is really good, lots of herbs and meat in the sauces. Be sure to ask for the free salad and bread that comes with the pasta though, they tend to forget to tell you about them. O and there is a 10% discount for students!!! read more

It's a good pizza-buy-the-slice place with a decent beer selection. My brother really liked the Meat Lovers pizza, but I prefer the arugula and cheese. The salads are alright, but not worth going out of your way for. You're probably better off going to Cheeseboard down the street for great flavor, but it'll do. Totally Boss! Ok, so I'm here all the time because it's three doors down (terrible band, nice proximity) from work. The environment is fantastic -- and the place is very, very clean, including the bathroom, which is my dad's litmus test, if not my own. The happy hour discounts are fantastic -- $2 off wine, $3 pints. I excuse my mostly-vegetarianism for Robert's pepperoni pizza and santa fe sandwich. The wild greens salad is excellent (although make sure you're aware of the inclusion of candied walnuts). It's nice that many items can be made vegan, even though I am not of that persuasion. Which brings me to Robert, who is as nice a proprietor, or co-proprietor, as I've ever met. So nice, in fact, that he has not only the football package, but the MLB and NBA packages, even though I don't think they really pack in the patrons. The ordering scheme may be a bit foreign at first, but you'll get used to it with time. And if you see a mustachioed indian at the bar, conversating with a large black man, say hi. Came here on a Thursday around 2:30 pm. Even in the middle of the day people are here! Heard this was a great place to eat so we checked it out. We had the penne pasta with pork and arugula. It was....ok. Tasted spicy with the roasted garlic and red pepper flakes. But overall tasted a bit plain. I heard, though, that the pizza is TO DIE FOR. I wish I would have tried it! But I will most definitely come back for it. And the guy behind the counter was friendly and we got a small salad before our pasta :) read more

When it came out I we started to chow down and then we realized that there was wayyyy too much garlic in it. made it taste horrible. the blue cheese in it was overwhelming all the other cheeses too. was super nasty. the only good things about this place were that the giants were playing on one tv and cal on the other. bad pizza though. read more

I want so badly to love Bobby G's. All my friends like it. I live three blocks away. They host local artists' work for free. It's pizza! And good beer! What's not to love?! I've been here twice now. I haven't been too impressed either time. The menu definitely reflects a combination of California tastes and New York-style pizza, I'm just not sure how well they mesh the two. The first time we ordered some veggie combination (there are a couple on the menu, not sure which). The sauce seemed like tomato paste from a can and there was hardly any cheese. Veggies were indistinct and mushy. The second time we got a fresh arugula-goat cheese mix that was just ok. I also had an Italian soda that was seltzer with just enough syrup to color the water without giving it any taste. I'm so confused by the atmosphere here. Great jazz and blues photos and sometimes live music and sports on flatscreens? The staff are very nice. I've heard good things about the 4 cheese pizza and blt, so I'll have to give them another chance. I'll definitely be back for the beer selection, but I'd rather be at Emilia's, Cheeseboard, or Gioia. read more

I had a vegan veggie pizza. Unfortunately nothing had any taste - the vegan "cheese" was gritty, the crust was flat and lifeless and all of the vegetables on the pizza - what few there were - lacked freshness. Could it be that everything was frozen? A vegan pizza (with non-dairy cheese) can be good - I had one recently at Small Shed Flatbreads in Mill Valley. I'd rather not have to drive all the over there to get it, though. I applaud the attempt to accommodate vegan diners. The space is cheerful and the location is great. I met Bobby G and he was a jerk. I didn't notice the student discount until after my credit card had been swiped and the guy behind the cash register had to go get Bobby G to apply the discount retroactively. Bobby gave me a lecture about how inconvenient it was for him and tried to make me feel stupid for not seeing the little torn, out-of-eyesight sign. Does this seem like a good way to win the allegiance of customers? Then the pizza took OVER AN HOUR to show up for our starving table of 8. The kid said something about how our order got stuck behind other ones. I'm going to assume that this wasn't Bobby G's payback for wasting his valuable time. The pizza was OK--not too generous with meat toppings. The mediterranean pizza was quite tasty however. I prefer Tomatina or Emilia's which is the best pizza in the East Bay IMO. Oh....my....gawddd.... the BLT pizza. Bacon, tomato, mozzarella, smoked gouda cheese, Bobby G's own special bacon-mayonnaise sauce, and some nice warm iceberg lettuce on top. It is seriously the best thing ever. I will keep coming back to Bobby G's for this pizza, no matter how far away I live. This pizza is mind-blowingly good. It's the bacon-mayonnaise sauce that really makes it, as I've tried a customized pizza with just bacon and gouda and it's not the same. Bobby G's pasta is also quite good. I highly recommend the sweet italian sausage rigatoni. Bobby G's isn't perfect. I called in an order once and they didn't enter it at all and lost the order. I'm not a fan of the pan fried pizzas. I kind of liked the egg one, but I really didn't like the nutella one. As the pizza cools, the "crust" takes on the consistency of a giant tortilla chip. I ended up cutting my mouth pretty badly when a giant shard of the crust jabbed the top of my mouth as I chewed. Pan frying a pizza is an interesting concept, but be warned - it's kind of a risky buy. I'm not gonna dock a star though for any of this, since as I said, I'm gonna keep coming back for that BLT pizza. It's kind of like how mind-blowing sex keeps people in terrible relationships together. I don't care what they've done, as long as they keep making that bacon-mayonnaise sauce. read more

I've been at Bobby G's twice for lunch, most recently yesterday. It's OK, but there are definitely better options at the noon hour on and around the UC campus. The first time that I came, I had some pizza and didn't think that it was anything special. I learned yesterday that their slices are "par baked" and then finished off when customers order by the slice. The phrase "par baked" made me lose my appetite for pizza, though I'll admit that I probably would have had a better reaction to a phrase like "light-baked," which is what the Cheese Board calls their pizza that's intended to be finished off at home. I decided to go for a sandwich yesterday, and thought that no one could ruin a ham and cheese panini. I should have read the menu, where I would have learned that the sandwich includes caramelized onions and garlic aioli and that it gets nuked in the sort of huge iron presses that I used to associate with hot pastrami. The sandwich-like object that I found in my plate was greasy and less-than-wonderful tasting; I'd definitely experienced better. On the other hand, the salad of tossed greens that came with the sandwich was A-OK. Now on to the prices: they're about 9% too high, I thought. Then I realized that I could point to the student who was dining with me and get the price down to something more reasonable. Grumble, grumble: I'm not at all in favor of a price structure that includes discounts -- student discounts in this case. It's the same as a price structure that includes a surcharge for customers who can't figure out how to get the student discount. One price for all would be my advice. read more

Vegan and gluten free options are available albeit incredibly pricey. Basically the Sports Bar vibe means that every douchebro and drunken asshole in Berkeley frequents this place on the weekend, so that's something to take into account if you're having a bad day or if you're just a vegan straight edge curmudgeon like myself who doesn't want to deal with obnoxious trust fund kids from UC or tryharding alcoholics. The service is decent and the pizza is actually quite tasty, but consider getting a to-go order. read more

Bobby G's is definitely my neighborhood go-to pizza/pasta place. The wait staff here are always more than friendly, service is prompt, and although it can get crowded I've never had a problem finding seating even on a weekend night. They also have live music sometimes (i'm not sure on exactly what days/times) which is a nice touch and makes it seem like a step above your typical pizzeria. I haven't had any food here that I haven't liked. I've tried their deep fried egg pizza which is delicious but also a heart attack on a plate. I've also had their pepperoni pizza (yum!), and the eggplant and goat cheese panini (really tasty!). My boyfriend also had the mushroom ravioli which looked awesome. They also have a solid beer selection as well. The crowd is usually mixed which I like (mixture of younger Cal students - I run into a lot of fellow grad students here, and older couples / families with younger kids). Overall Bobby G's is definitely worth a try and won't disappoint if you want quick, solid pizza or pasta served by friendly staff in a casual laid back environment. read more
