In my opinion... the absolute worse possible place you can take your car for service... CUSTOMERS BEWARE. Brought car in for an axle replacement on a 2009 chevy malibu. Tried to charge me $280 for a seal replacement ( mind you seal has to be replaced once axle is removed and seal only cost $28 THEN.. once home, I noticed my new impact wrench, and OBD2 scanner was missing out of vehicle. SMH The topper is that my car came back BONE DRY with NO oil in it. Positive car was fully topped off as I had just stopped in for a fluid check at valvoline. Maybe someone came at night... stole the tools, and drained my car bone dry of oil, OR something nefarious has transpired. Avoid this place at all costs unless you have video recording... capturing ever angle of your vehicle.. incessantly. read more

My tranny went out so I got it towed to bobs. We haggled price back and forth and finally came to a price. Pricing is basically like a flea market so you must haggled. The tranny works fine now which is what this shop is about. The reason why I'm only giving them 3 stars is because there is zero communication unless you call them every 2 hours. Was told they would called after an inspection or a test ride etc. No calls so I just called them constantly for an update. Also, they returned my car with a messed up alignment and grease stains on the inside of my car roof. I once again called Bob and told him the situation. They did the alignment and removed the stains for free but I had to wait 4 days to get it done. Got the car back and the alignment was off on the other side of the steering wheel BUT the grease stains were gone. I ended up just taking my car to my friend to get the alignment done correctly. End of story, tranny work was good but bad communication and the workers are sloppy with people's cars. I hope I don't need to bring the car back. Meaning I hope the tranny last a long time and I don't want these workers touching my car. The car should leave the shop the way it came in. Clean. read more

I bought a used SUV at 88,000 miles and two weeks later, the trans started to fail. I had Bob put a new trans in it 13 months ago. This past week, the "check transmission" idiot light started flashing at me after only 17,000 on this rebuilt transmission, so I brought it back under warranty. Strangely, even with the warning light flashing on the dash, it drove fine, but I didn't want to take a chance of getting stranded. Turns out the torque converter failed and had to be replaced. Bob did it for free under the warranty and had the truck back in two days. Nothing like honesty. Honesty, competence and quick turnaround are about the only things I care about with a car repair shop. Most places struggle to achieve all three. While I am not amused my torque converter failed so quickly, I get it that sometimes excrement happens. The reason for the five star review is how it was dealt with, which was honestly, competently and quickly. What more can you ask? read more

The ole' car was still running the first time he went to see Bob's Transmission on Plainfield. I just knew that there was still live to be lived in that Taurus. I first went there a crisp fall day in October of 2007. He had to be towed in which was no problem because Bob's does towing as well for a very reasonable fee. After a few days, sadly it is because they are always busy and my car seemed just to really prefer the holidays that Bob's Transmissions take off. Bob's did a check up on the Taurus and found nothing wrong with the transmission. He changed and flushed the transmission fluids for me, FREE of charge because he had the car for 3-4 days and couldn't find anything wrong with it. All I had to pay was for the towing. Bob also, told me that if it happens again he would tow in back in for free. Another great bonus! To my luck the car magically healed itself but, that is another story. Two years later (December 2009), right around the Christmas holidays I noticed a shutter and a clunking in my car and not on the roof. I was near Bob's and pulled in. There were able to have one of their expert mechanics check it out within minutes, despite all the bays were full and were clearly very busy given the phone call volume. About 15 minutes later I new the problem, just as I suspected the transmission. I asked about the worst case scenario and costs, everything was explained carefully and full of detail on what needed to be done (the transmission needed to be taken out, taken apart and looked at). Within days the car was being looked at and transmission removed from the car. Worst fears for me the transmission needed to be rebuilt. The price was discussed, evaluations were weighted and I told Bob (the person you will hear all of your information from), I would a few days to think about it. About 3 days later I called back, to tell him the car was sadly not worth being fixed. Bob was very kind, he knew it was a tough decision on how to handle it. There my car set for about 2 weeks, while I located a place to take it for salvage. With no luck, Bob called me back and helped me find a place that would take it. He didn't have to help at all but, he took the time and made it so easy for me. It is rare that you find any kind of place like Bob's Transmission any more. With the service that I received there, I will recommend and encourage everyone to go there! He has my service for life! read more

YOU HAVE TO READ THIS REALLY COOL ENDING....The shift lever on my son's 2001 Chrysler minivan became disconnected from the transmission under the hood. I didn't want to put a lot of money into this aging 209k mile vehicle, but my son really needs this van to get to his college classes and he can't afford to buy another car right now. I went online to find a transmission place, -these yelp reviews for Bob's Transmissions looked good, so I gave them a try. Bob's technicians were able to reconnect the old shift cable with a simple clip. When we picked up the van I was so impressed with this business........he didn't charge me a dime. Who does this kind of old school, small home town style of business favor for a total stranger???? I took my transmission to Bob's to have it rebuilt and I was under a time crunch due to a different transmission shop not fixing my trans, I explained to him how it was time sensitive ordeal. He had the transmission fixed and ready for pick up in less than a week And I couldn't be happier with his service, attitude and professionalism. I had some repair work done at Bob's transmission in jenison mi. I was told I was going to get a call to let me know what the problem is to decide if I want to fix it. I wasnt called . I was going up there to get something out of my truck and was told it was about done. The same thing was do name that another place did before and I made a point to say what was done previously. They said we have to start somewhere we dont get many of these truck in here. My truck I'd not a ginnie pig. It started leaking again. I waited a while to go back and when I did the gut was rude and said we make mistakes. I said I want a place that will guarantee it wont leak. He said you dont want us then. I said you dont stand behind your work? He said we stand behind our work but we cant guarantee it wont leak. If one place already did one repair twice why would Bob's think them doing it will magically fix it? Then they tell me to go somewhere else. Never will I go to Bob's again not should anyone else.
