Derek in the service dept. has been my contact for our vehicles for the past 4-5 years. Although I purchased my Yukon XL from another dealership, Derek has taken exceptional care of us for a long time. He secures a loaner vehicle each time my truck needs service, even for a simple bad battery swap. We leased a vehicle for my wife from Kool solely because of the service Derek has provided. I will purchase a new Yukon in the near future. We will be purchasing from Kool. Again, because of the services provided by Derek. Derek has called us from his cell on his days off to provide updates. He emails or texts me when needed as I am in and out of meetings all day, every day. Communication & support are (in my opinion) more important than the vehicle itself. Kool Chevrolet has consistently provided both. I left my house keys in a loaner vehicle after hours. Derek was gone for the day but contacted the sales manager--last name DeVos, cannot remember his first name) who was still at the dealership. Mr. DeVos & I scurried around the dealership, searching for the loaner vehicle I used earlier. We were unable to locate the loaner & discovered it had been loaned out to another customer already. Derek called me at nearly 9pm apologizing (with no need to apologize. I was the dummy who left the keys in the console of the loaner) & indicated he would have the keys at his desk first thing in the morning. I was able to get into the house by other means. I arrived at the dealership the next morning to discover Derek had the day off (he loves his cottage & pontoon boat, especially on a nice Friday in July!). Discouraged, I meandered over to his desk. Please get a second opinion! So glad I did. I dropped my car off at 9:30 a.m. with a 10:00 a.m. appointment and didn't hear back with them until 5:00 the next day. I had to scavenge for rides to and from work because they were low on loaner cars. I had called six times and left two voicemails during the time that they had my vehicle with getting no one except the receptionist. They then added $125 for a service I did not approve and did not know that until pick up. They quoted me $2,000 for a repair that I did not need, by which I found out after taking it to get a second opinion by a family friend who has worked on cars for 30 years. He and I are both livid at their deceit and how they take advantage of people's general lack of car knowledge. These people should not be allowed to be in business. We need more honest people in the world. I'm disgusted. Use these people at your own risk. read more

I decided to by a used vehicle from kool GM after having leased a vehicle previously and referring friends to them. I have had okay experiences with them in the past, but this was the last one. The used vehicle that I purchased ended up getting a check engine light the day I got it. I got home, read the codes, and decided to check a few things. I was surprised to find out that even though Kool had said that the air filters and oil were replaced, they were not. The oil was still black as night, the air filters were dirty, and there were still leaves and dirt under the air filters. I was out an extra $548 from having Mercedes repair what kool couldn't. It makes me wonder if cool is purposefully defrauding people or if the service department at kool really has no idea what is going on. read more

Slowest service of any shop I've ever been to. Over an hour and a half to change my oil and replace a cabin air filter. They allowed me to walk through the garage to see the dirty air filter and I noticed my car was one of 5 total vehicles back there. Over $100 and 90 minutes later, will never be returning. Service has gone from good/very good to poor in the last 1-1.5 years. We've dealt exclusively with Kool since moving to the area 10 years ago, bought 2 new vehicles from Sales and all our maintenance / repair needs have gone through their Service department. We are taking our business elsewhere after our last experience working with service advisor (Derek Drudy). Brought in our Traverse for work on suspension. Scheduled a Tuesday service appointment over the phone - minor issues during drop off but not a big deal. Normally get a call in the afternoon with a diagnosis / estimate - 4pm rolls around, nothing - I call expecting to hear cost and time for pick up....Vehicle had not even been looked at - things were backed up etc etc. Surprising and a little disappointing (expressed that I would have expected a phonecall informing me of the delay) but told them to hold on to it and service it the next day. Wednesday rolls around, no communication from Kool and same deal - I had to follow up in the afternoon and the vehicle had still not been looked at. Totally understand being backed up - what is unacceptable is the lack of communication and their expectation that its ok to hold on to a customer's vehicle indefinitely. PS - went to pickup the vehicle the next morning - keys were misplaced, there was a mixup etc. Spoke with service manager (Deb Cain) who, to her credit, listened to the complaint but did absolutely nothing to try to change my mind or win back the business - besides let me know how busy they were and hence backed up. I get it, they are busy and doing well even though new car inventory is low - they can probably afford to lose customers. Just letting others know what to expect. read more

Quite disappointed with Kool Chevrolet. Recently had an oil change and asked for my serpentine belt to be looked at, was told it was in perfect condition only to have it shred today while driving. Wish they would've listened to me when I asked them to replace it the first time rather than having to deal with breaking down because it was so worn out... All I can say is wow! Never had an experience like this before. I would NEVER recommend this dealership to anyone especially If you're a person of color please avoid that place at all cost. I am saving you time, embarrassment, being judged etc. My husband and I went to looked at a truck at that dealership and met up with John Davis. The moment I started speaking to that man, he tried to discourage us from buying the truck. Mr Davis, was more concerned about selling his credentials than the vehicle. He told us he had been doing this for 20 +yrs and that he wouldn't be able to help. The only thing I had told Mr Davis at that point was that we had a business and wanted to buy a truck. He then told us "I don't think I can help you with that" we were so confused because there was no credit check or finance process to know you can't help. He provided us with his contact card and we left. We called him twice no answer and no call back. We went back to the dealership and met up with him again. Without pulling up our credit. "I don't think I can help you" We said to him can we please complete the credit form. He ran my husband's credit then said " I'm sorry to have to informed you this but because you're from out of state we can't sale you this vehicle" That's perfectly fine if that's Michigan's law. Two years ago we purchased a new Cadillac Escalade from New York with no problem and we don't live in New York. We said well that's fine my sister is from Michigan and she's also interested in that type of truck we'll let her know that it is available here. He said I cannot sale it to your sister either because of you guys‍. That made no sense. We had enough with him so we left and thought it would be a great idea to report him to his supervisor. Don't remember the supervisor's name but he was no better. Cut me off while I was explaining the situation then he told me to process the finance form. Called him back to let him know it was processed. He then started to interrogate me then said I see there's a fraud alert on the credit report. His tone of voice was not asking why but was judging. We placed a fraud alert on our credit to be notified first before our credit is processed for any loans or credit cards. Supervisor then stated that the vehicle would cost about $1800 a month once it's financed. I said to him why would it be so much monthly. He had the nerve to tell me then I should look for something that is cheaper. We ended up purchasing a vehicle that is almost double the price of their vehicle and it wasn't $1800 a month ‍. It is heartbreaking to go somewhere that you thought was safe and trying to do an honest transaction and felt mistreated and judged and still don't know what you did wrong to caused that. I couldn't be happier with my new car purchase experience. Most people hate the car buying experience, the overly assertive sales person, and the utter confusion in the numbers. I started looking for cars with the same thoughts and called multiple Chevy dealers looking for the best value. After making several calls, leaving voicemails, getting shrugged off because my trade wasn't a Chevy, or hearing "our sales staff is busy,.....Audrey from kool Chevrolet called me back. She won my business because she took the initiative to reach back out to a missed call. The dealership is beautiful, very clean and welcoming, multiple trim packages in the same vehicle so I could physically see the difference between trim packages, and one of the easiest closing processes I've been a part of. Audrey didn't try to hard sell me which I appreciated very much- the desperation in some sales people makes buying anything unbearable. She quickly realized what I needed and didn't need in a new vehicle and focused on that. Zach the finance guy was excellent to, no hard up sell on protections, insurance, or warranties, and was extremely personable. Their team was transparent with the numbers, offered me a fair value for my trade, and respected my time- I canceled my appointment at another branded dealership later that day and bought a new Silverado on the spot. Bought a car from them 3 weeks ago and the check engine light came on the day after I bought it. Jay and the used car manager Jim assured me me that they would take care of me and at least diagnose the issue for free. After a total of 4 days and no communication from the service writer Ben, I decided to go pick it up so it wouldn't sit there for the weekend. I was told they only ran the codes and test drove it. I dropped it off again two days later and I finally heard back from Ben and he informed me they could not diagnose it and that I should take it somewhere else. Wish I could give less than 1 star here. Purchased a "new" $70,000 Camaro from them today. Car didn't even make it home before it wouldn't start again and then the computer began throwing error codes for just about every safety system on the car. Had to drive home with no gages, speedometer, safety features, turn signals or headlights. I contacted them and after a video showing what was wrong along with 5 or 6 text messages I got a response of "Its probably something simple, just call and have it towed in to service". Wow... just wow. Now I know why they gave me a low price, they were trying to unload a piece of crap they knew was defective before they even sold it to me. Don't trust the mechanics! I purchased a low mileage used car from Kool Chevrolet and with that they include an inspection sheet done by their mechanics. Within 2 weeks my air conditioner went from great to nothing. Luckily I bought the extended warranty for 3 grand because my 1000 dollar fix after 2 weeks only costed me 100 dollars. BUT... then less than a year later, and only roughly 9,000 miles, my breaks were metal on metal. I asked them how their mechanics decide for the inspection sheet and they said as long as its over 50% break pad left. I then asked how long break pads last and they said roughly 50,000 miles or more. I asked how 50% of my break pads were lost in 1 year because that is when they inspected it. They did not have an answer. So another 700 dollars down the drain. I asked them if they would be able to do anything about this, and now I'm here writing this post. So, don't trust their mechanics. SAVE YOURSELF!! Go find yourself a mechanic you can trust to look at their cars, because Kool Chevrolet's mechanics can clearly not be trusted. read more

Appt are a joke at Kool. Just plan on them having your car all day if you are getting more than an oil change. I've had my vehicles serviced by Kool for over 30 years and Phil, Brett and Paul have been good. Now this Ben handled my wife's safety recall and brake job. Recall parts did not show up. You would at the least expect a call saying the necessary parts not here. Now we get to make an appointment to have that done and I am sure they will have the car all day for a hour job. If a person made a doctor's appt at 11:30 and they did not call you in until 5:30 what would you call that? Then when you get called they can only do a partial job you'll have to come back later for the rest. Latest visit went very smooth. Their estimates and repairs were always accurate and timely. They would always fix me up with loaner or rental car if I needed it. I would recommend them. read more

Kool Chevy has been nothing but problems. First they tried to tell me I needed a new radiator in my Silverado. I called and talked to the service manger and asked why it needed to be replaced. I have never had a problem with it leaking, overheating, coolant level was always full. He explained to me that it's a common problem that the inlet cracks and it's more of preventative maintenance. Here we are almost a year later not a single drop low. Good luck trying to get someone in service to pickup the phone rings and rings and rings. Kool Chevy is a joke save your hard earned money and go to a dealership that wants your business. read more

Stay away from Kool Chevrolet. I took my 2015 GMC there for an engine light at 37,000 miles. The service advisor Paul plugged his scanner in and returned to the counter. I asked him what the reading was. He said it's just old codes and asked how long the light was on. I told him about a week. He wanted me to pay $105 for a diagnostic check. After I asked why he said your bumper to bumper warranty ended at 36,000. I told him I thought it was covered under the 60,000 mile power train warranty. He said no. That just covers internal engine parts. At that point I knew he was lying and left the dealership. He must have failed to notice my service history in the computer. That will be my last visit to Kool. When I returned home I googled the the problem and guess what it said. Disconnect the battery and the code will clear. I reconnected the battery and no light, problem solved. My auto start also works again. That code prevents the auto start function. read more

I went there for a full service oil change and tire rotation and overall check. About 45 minutes later a service tech comes into the waiting room where I was and tells me they broke off a lug bolt in the rear, said they could leave it or fix it for $65. So I said to fix it. Went to change my rear brakes after and they never fixed the lug, and only the tip was snapped off. This place just wants your money. read more

Don't do business with these folks. They don't stand by the cars they sell. I bought a pre-owned car from them that they claimed they inspected. I had a tail light out and a two buttons that would stay stuff down on my radio. While this may not seem like a big idea it would constantly change the radio station bc the button stayed pushed in. I contacted my sales representative within 30 days of buying the car (after I had a chance to make sure nothing else was going on). He told me you should have tested it out before buying the car. Then his excuse was you should have told me immediately, saying that he would have fixed it. Then his excuse was you bought this as-is car. Then his excuse was you would need to drive it back an hour to the dealership but advised me that they would not probably still not be fixing anything. One thing I have learned in life is when someone has more than 1 (or maybe 2) reasons why they don't want to do something, it isn't about the reason. It is because they are full of s#!t. Then when he realized he wasn't buying the bull s#!t, he tried to put the positive spin on it that the radio wouldn't be that much. Great then repair it. You go service techs that are already on the clock. People like Del Contreas already decided what the outcome they want is and will make up any reason under the sun to squirm out. And two be clear, he claims to have spoken to "his manager," so let's be clear, the whole operation is a piece of crap if you go there. In the process he basically said it was my fault and called me a liar (that it really wasn't broken). read more
