This was my first time ever buying a vehicle, and I'll be honest: I walked into the process with zero experience. I'm a single mom with two kids and this car purchase was literally my entire savings, so the stakes were extremely high for me. I bought a 2019 Kia Soul from Bob King Mazda. A few days after purchase, I noticed some issues with the car and ended up taking it to Bob King Kia for diagnostics since it's a Kia. They discovered a pending check engine code related to the O sensors and replaced both sensors. The invoice showed the repair would have been around $850, but thankfully they covered it and I did not have to pay. I want to be very clear about something: the people I dealt with were great. Billy at Bob King Kia was very helpful and reassuring when this all started. Randy at Bob King Mazda was also great to work with. But the real MVP was Josh in the Mazda service department. Even when things were confusing behind the scenes, he stayed patient, explained things clearly, and treated me with respect the entire time. His people skills alone would make me consider returning. They also provided me with a loaner vehicle while the issue was being addressed, which I deeply appreciated and absolutely made a stressful situation easier. That said, I do have some concerns that I think future buyers should be aware of. When I first purchased the car, the coolant was extremely low and the engine air filter was completely clogged with debris. It was obvious those things hadn't been checked before the vehicle was sold. That's what ultimately led me to discovering the other issue in the first place. After 10 days of diagnostics and repairs, the jerking sensation I initially noticed while decelerating is still present, although it is not nearly as severe as before. The explanation I received was essentially that the vehicle has over 100k miles and sometimes cars just have their own "personality." Maybe that's true, but as a first-time buyer, I was hoping for a clearer mechanical explanation. To be fair, the dealership did step up and handle the emissions issue at no cost to me, and they treated me respectfully throughout the process. I genuinely appreciate that. However, I would strongly recommend that the dealership implement a more thorough mechanical inspection process on used vehicles before they're sold. A quick inspection by a technician could likely catch things like low coolant, clogged filters, or pending codes before a customer drives off the lot. At the end of the day, the staff treated me well and the issue I didn't know about was addressed. But as someone who spent their entire savings on their first car purchase, this experience was definitely stressful and could have been prevented with a more thorough pre-sale inspection. For now, I'm hopeful everything continues running well. Time will tell. And as a first-time buyer who learned a lot through this experience, I'll definitely be paying very close attention going forward. read more

Walked in, told them it was my fuel pump. Two days later I called them (they never called me) and they said they couldn't figure out what it was, due to not having car history. You'll never guess- it was the fuel pump. Then I get a full report on the car, where they state that the car won't turn off. I ask them to describe it- and tell me how they could fix that. They said it needed an electrical switch. I asked for the name of the switch, they couldn't tell me. I come to the dealership and turns out they weren't putting their foot on the break before pressing the start stop button. I have a Mazda 6. They didn't know how to turn off their own car. It took almost 3 days and cost over 3,000 for a mechanic that didn't know how to turn a car off. Would love to know what electrical switch fixes that. read more

went to look at a vehicle the Saturday after the fourth of July. got out the door quote the thursday before july the fourth so I could have cash in hand. I live 2:45 hours away from the dealership. My wife and I got up early to make the trip and be there right after they opened. was contacted by the sales person 2 hours into the trip with a story about one of the other sales people had promised to hold the jeep for another customer. Sales person said that they worked on a first come first served policy but this time management was letting it slide. said I could come in and test drive but would have to wait and see if the other customer did not purchase the vehicle. This car dealership is worse then bad it's scam. I have purchased brand new CX90 hybrid 2024 in November 2023. They run my credit that was exceptionally high at 805 and general manager shook hand with me on approving me for special offer Mazda financing. Only to find out when they used my electronic signature on financial documents that they have sold me brand new vehicle as used on their paperwork with almost double interest rate but not with Mazda, with their own TD bank. They defrauded me from my credit rating. They themselves provided official dealership certificate of brand new vehicle, signed and stamped. I have window sticker of new car from purchased car window and new car price I have paid and in edition NC state ownership regulation that show me as the only owner of my car. I was thoroughly with my experience at Bob King Mazda,. My sales as well as her manager I have no complaints about. However, the finance manager Christian was very inept and what he does. First of all I requested that when signing financial papers I did not want to hear about the added maintenance plans available. I verbally made a request to Christian not to hear about these plans. He proceeded to disregard my request and did it anyway. Then after signing the papers we got the car and drove. It was not until I got home. Did I realize that Christian had not provided a bill of sale. When my daughter called back over to the dealership and spoke with Christian, he blew the whole thing no big deal and also requested that she not say anything to his manager because he was afraid he would get in trouble. Is that the behavior of a professional? I was further angered when I called Christian myself, and he still did not take ownership of the mistake that he had made. When someone makes a mistake like that, and then tries to cover it up, I think that the customer should be compensated in some. way. We have been so distressed by this car dealership. Bought a car three months ago - still do not have the title. We have called many times and been lied to or they have ignored our pleas for help. They say they are looking into it, they say they will call us back - nothing. We have no choice but to report them to the law enforcement division of the DMV to get some help. My husband and I showed up at 6:30 pm on a weekday to look at a used Miata we saw online. We hoped that we'd get to test drive it, but we're doubtful since it was 30 mins before closing. Za'Kwan greeted us with a smile and a handshake and was in no hurry. He let us take the car out and we fell in love with it. We decided to purchase the car that night. We had a trade in and he got someone to do the evaluation right away. The entire staff made us feel at home, offered us coffee and water and were so nice. Mazdas have an excellent rating. Mazda dealerships don't necessarily align with these standards. Bob King Mazda is one dealer that falls short, short, short of excellent standards that we expect from the Mazda brand. They are dreadful. This is the worst experience I've ever had from a dealership or body shop. Do your homework and find a competent body shop to perform your work. Don't go to Bob King just because you purchased your car there. Bob King is useless on many levels. First of all, when they tell you your car will be ready for pickup, add one or more days to that. I called to verify that my car would be ready, and they told me yes. But when I showed up on TWO OCCASIONS, my car was still not ready to drive away. What's worse, they told me that they could not find the parts to replace on my car and tasked me with this responsibility. I refused to do this work as I have no experience with cars. They should have never asked me to do such a task. Mind you, these parts were on my car when I purchased it from Bob King Mazda, and yet they could not and would not assume the responsibility to make it like new (or even similar to new). They turned my car over to me unfinished and tasked ME with finding replacement parts for my car. They told me they would continue to search and contact me with results. They did not ever contact me to follow up. After more than a month, I visited the sales person at Bob King Mazda who may know the origin of the parts. He said he would be in touch with details. He never contacted me. I emailed him. No response. I left a phone message. No response. I visited the show room AGAIN. Another sales person was nice enough to tell me the part was out of stock. WOW. THANK YOU FOR AN ANSWER MORE THAN A MONTH AFTER MY CAR WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN COMPLETED!!! Next...back to the body shop...Let's get this resolved please??? So I left my car with them and was told it would be ready the next day. The next day, I called to confirm completion. Nope. Not ready. Come back tomorrow. Called "tomorrow" to see if it was ready for pickup. Yup. Come after 4:00 for pickup. I came after 5:00 and it was 50% complete. They offered me the opportunity to bring it back sometime during the following week. WOW! REALLY? WHAT AN INCREDIBLE OPPORTUNITY. THANK YOU SO MUCH MR. BOB KING. I'M THRILLED WITH THE OFFER. BKM will markup MSRP without telling you until time to work through the numbers. What is advertised on their website as MSRP does in fact match that from Mazda USA, so, all good on that point. However, when requesting the Bob King Price from the BKM website, they don't disclose anything additional other than tax, title, etc., and I quote, you know....the usual stuff, and that was verbally. BKM marked up the cost by over eight percent, almost three grand, and only disclosed the increase when working through financing options. They called it an addendum. I had looked at a car at Bob King Mazda and then eventually got tired of them and bought from another dealer. There were multiple features of the car that the sales representatives at Bob King had assured us the cat came with yet when I went to Flow Mazda in Greensboro (which is indefinitely better, I hight recommend them) we learned the car didn't have any of the features that we were promised at Bob King. And these were not extra features such as roof racks or anything, I'm talking about features that come standard with the car. I came back for a few oil changes. The first one is free and the second one was over priced. They do get you in and out in a reasonable amount of time. A huge thumbs up to Zach I am going to refrain from providing any kind of rating on pricing or purchase options, etc., because I feel as though that experience would greatly vary so my review is going to be based on the customer experience, and NOT the vehicle price or those details. Car dealerships have always had a bad connotation associated with them. I can say, with that in mind I feel as though the staff at Bob King Mazda seemed to be aware of this instead of trying to pretend it wasn't a real thing and each person I had contact with seemed very down to earth and very willing to treat me as a person or friend, and not a customer they had trapped. Firstly, I started dealing with Lesli Johnson by talking to her online and getting info from her and getting the ball rolling. She was quick to respond to my emails and questions, and was willing to set me up with times to come see what I wanted. Once I arrived she was very busy with another customer and I was given over to Zach. Zach pulled up the models I was looking at and let me compare them side by side. Zach stayed professional and friendly and stuck by me, not just when the prospect of a sale looked imminent. He text or called me anytime for the smallest detail. We swapped some movie recommendations and chatted about our families and life like old friends. He did great at easing the perceived pain of car buying. All around super nice young man who was very capable and knowledgeable. The guy is just someone you can tell is an all around good guy. Although everyone was equally great, Zach was my quarterback through the process and all the credit goes to him. I give Zach 7 stars. I made that rating up but he deserves it. During my process of two different days there, I also saw : Danell, whose name I have surely misspelled, was very down to earth. I had to call him and deal with him in personal a few times. He was professional, but again in a friendly way. He was just a good guy and pleasant to talk to. I felt comfortable telling silly dad jokes or making stupid comments with him and the others and they were gracious enough to laugh and follow through as if I were actually funny and they hadn't heard the same thing before. Christopher was also a manager or finance director or something (I apologize Christopher for not getting this right). I can't necessarily remember their positions because it didn't matter. No one acted like they were above someone else or too important to see you personally. Again, perfectly friendly and pleasant to talk to. He was quick witted and down to earth as well. During the final closing up of my deal, I had a question about how some things were written in and Rachel stopped me and went to see if Christopher could come answer my question. Without waiting, he stopped what was happening and marched right back into her office, and broke down what I was asking about, decided to find some paperwork that made it easy to see as well, and printed it for me. That was a good sign for me that there was transparency and they wanted me to be sure and happy instead of signing on the line to get me sold. Then there is Rachel. She helped me close things up with all the final signing and wrap up. What a total sweetheart and wonderful young lady. Again we had conversations about tv shows and YouTube channels, and she treated me as if I was a friend. She was knowledgeable and gave me all the information I needed but made sure to break down what I was looking at and never once tapped a foot impatiently as I took too long to read and re-read everything. She was so kind and pleasant, and it was 7 pm. I know she had been there probably 11 hours at this point, there was no yawn or sigh or rush. No one here EVER made me feel like I was some trapped customer at the mercy of a big evil dealer like we may sometimes get the impression will happen. There wasn't any unnecessary pressure or horsing around with my time. They were all in a hurry to help me but never rushed me. Not one person I dealt with was unpleasant and they all were, again, like friends or acquaintances. No one kissed my butt to try to make me feel special to get me to buy but appreciated me as a potential customer and respected my time and wishes. They were just.... normal and nice. Exceptional to find in customer service and sales. For the experience in dealing with a dealership during the selling process, they get all 5 stars. read more

When asking all these questions, I recorded them all on my phone saying it would only be pulled once. So either it will be removed by 5pm tomorrow, or the car will be returned and a lawyer retained. I'm going to provide my honest review of my terrible car buying experience at Bob King Mazda. I'll start with what went well. First, their prices are the best I've seen throughout NC, SC, and VA. They tell you on their website what you can expect to pay, and very prompt on answering any questions that you have. Second, the dealership looks superb upon pulling into the entry, and throughout the actual facility inside. Third, the interactions I had with Tiffany Shelton, who addresses online communications, was great. She was very responsive. Fourth, the actual person who dealt with my car sale, Ashely Owens, was great. She was very patient and responded to all my questions. I know that upon entering she didn't know much of anything about me or why I was there because I spoke with Tiffany and the most disrespectful men, I've ever encountered in car buyer who I will name below. It's quite deceiving to expect to complete a sale with one person, and then you show up only to be passed on to someone else who doesn't know anything about why you are there or what has been agreed upon. This was not Ashley's fault, and maybe not Tiffany, but it's sure a bad way to start the process. Now to my terrible experience. Now to the issues. Let's start with Brad Goins. Where do I start? Brad and I had several chats via text, email, and phone calls. I was very clear in what I wanted to know, the out of door price including taxes, tags, processing fees, rebates, and other dealer incentives. Now during this month, Mazda is offering either 0.9% APR financing for qualified buyers (meaning credit scores of 750 or better) or $2750 rebate. I get that dealers will use the rebates as leverage to entice buyers, and it sounds great. I was direct with Brad that I want to decide which option I want to use. He was very clear that I hadn't decided what to do so I asked about receiving in writing the breakdown for the pricing. After requesting this a few times here was his response via email, "I'm sorry you don't feel we are being transparent. I gave you this information. I know you are shopping and that any dealership will want this information so they can "beat or match" our deal. I won't send you this, but I will honor it. If you know it's a great deal and wants to take advantage of it, it will be here waiting for you. Thank you and we hope we can make it work for you when you are ready. Why does this matter? Later on, in this experience, I met this arrogant General Manager Darin Griffin, who stated who was shocked I was given this information and he always shares that with customers. I'll address my issues with him in a few. On a phone call with Brad, I let him know my disappoint, so yes, he felt my frustration. I said just tell me the price without the rebate. We had it settled, and I said I would get back with him. The next day I let him, and Tiffany knows I was ready to drive the 2 hours to get the car based on the agreed-upon price. I emphasized no rebate. Back to Brad. Brad walks over to Ashley's desk to show me the price breakdown. What do I see? The DAMN REBATE, which I asked why is this hear. Brad said there must be some miscommunication, which there wasn't. He said what he needed to get me there, and then acted cluelessly, and it makes sense why he refused to send anything electronically because in that type of full transparency it would have been known and he would have lost the sale if I saw that info. Welp, Brad got up with an attitude, crumbled up the paper, murmured something under his breath, and walked away. Next up is Darin Griffin trying to explain stuff. Basically, Darin said he wasn't going to honor what Brad said and that mistakes happen. No mistake cost me $2750 in my job, nor my time off work, or travel. I angrily walked out. I came back and said at I'll take your offer for gassing my car up on the ride home. Darin felt away about my exit, which he can feel how he wants. He didn't try to address the issue was that Brad lied and the dealership would lose money based on the pricing offered. After haggling back and forth we settled on a price. I love the car, but Brad and Darin are terrible. All the welp mistakes happen, I've addressed Brad's poor communication, and we can't make the deal he said didn't' matter. Darin acted like he owns the place and its money I'm taking from him. I was expected to put down less money than I did, but I'm glad it's over. I will never buy another car from this place because transparency isn't reality. Even some of their web links don't work, but I'm sure they don't know that.
