We stayed next door at the La Quinta Inn so we thought we would try Bob Evans for breakfast. We had to wait 15 minutes because it was busy but once we were seated we were greeted and ordered quickly. Our food came quickly and was hot. The eggs were exactly as ordered. I would have given them a 5 star but the bacon had good flavorand was meaty but it looked pre cooked and was very dry, almost the consistency of beef jerky. The pancakes and crepes were light fluffy and delicious. The service was very good and friendly.

This Bob Evan's did not disappoint. I ordered ham steaks, mashed potatoes, and mac. Overall, the whole meal was warm but not hot; something I do not mind but definitely something to note. The quality of the food was good, no complaints there. Our waitress was attentive and polite, offering refills when we were low and getting our orders accurate. I would definitely come back.

What an eater!!!!!!

What a cute small town diner! Nothing fancy but boy, their food is top notch!…read moreWe went on a Friday evening for their cod cut ups; small order is $11.49, large order $11.99. Three pieces of fish with the smaller order and 4 pieces for the large order. Nice selections of sides; stewed tomatoes were so delicious with bacon, green beans seasoned like grandma's!! Mac and cheese tasted homemade and was just a little dry. The smaller pieces of fish were dry and very crispy while the larger pieces were piping hot with delicious white meat. Our waitress was quite busy and highly efficient. Can't wait to come back for their fried chicken!!

I don't know who's back in that kitchen, but they're frying with passion, prayer, and probably a cast iron skillet blessed by someone's meemaw. We didn't even go for the all-you-can-eat fried chicken (which is only $13.99, by the way?!), and our total bill for TWO people was $24. That's highway robbery--in the best way. Let's break it down: * Fried chicken: Golden, crispy, juicy. Absolute perfection. * Mashed potatoes with gravy: Smooth and savory. * Coleslaw and green beans: Comfort food classics done right. * Rolls: Fluffy carb clouds of joy. * Brownies: $1. Moist, chocolatey, and sprinkled with powdered sugar and magic. Their slogan is "Food so good, you'll think we stole your grandma," and honestly? I never met my grandmas, but if they cooked like this, I see why they'd get snatched. This is one of those hidden gems that makes you feel like you discovered something sacred. No pretense. No gimmicks. Just fried chicken and feelings. Worth the drive from anywhere near the St. Louis area. And if you're into brutally honest food reviews with a little sass, follow me on Yelp and Google Maps--I'm always chasing my next favorite bite. #NewBadenEats #FriedChickenDoneRight #ComfortFoodGoals #GoodOlDaysMagic #WorthTheDrive

Therefore we opted to get the bakery to go. The staff were nice and friendly. We ordered our bakery items and walked around this town to explore this town for a little bit. Despite living in STL for over 30 years and having visited Kimswick many times for their various "festivals", we'd never eaten at the Blue Owl, since the place is usually packed. This morning was no different, but to our great surprise, they got us a table for 2 right away. We were seated just after 11 am, which was unfortunately too late for their breakfast menu, so lunch it was! We started with 2 cups of freshly brewed coffee . My lunch selection was a slice of their homemade chicken pot pie, freshly made crust and large bites of chicken inside, topped with a cheese covered crust. It was fresh & delicious! For a side I had a large serving of curly fries, doubt they were made in house, but they were good! My wife eats largely plant based, and ordered a quiche... she may not have read the description of it closely, but as she took her first bite, she discovered it had bacon on it. Rather than send it back, she chose to eat around the bacon. I took a couple of bites and thought it was pretty tasty as well. She had a fresh fruit cup as her side, and it was just that: fresh fruit. The Blue Owl is known for their fresh bakery and after perusing their cake/pie menu, we decided on a lightly frosted carrot cake, but at a $52 price point, we thought it was pretty pricey and instead opted for 2 take-home slices ($7 each slice) to savor later today. Maybe it's holiday pricing, or maybe carrots have been subjected to the tariffs, but $52 for a store bought ( no matter how fresh) cake seemed a bit high. All in all, a delightful experience. The food was delicious and our server was friendly and attentive. Highly recommend The Blue Owl Restaurant & Bakery in Kimswick, MO!

It is a Trojan horse for one of the best burgers in St. Louis (my wife says I'm being dramatic for calling it THE best; I say I am not NOT going back for another). We enjoyed everything we order: the pork belly burnt ends and cashew chicken wings, and a coffee & cardamom old fashioned that sounds like a personality disorder but tastes like a vibe, smoky, a touch sweet, and very drinkable year-round. The Sam Elliott burger, BBQ sauce, bacon, crunchy onions, brioche, is named for a man who has never disappointed anyone, and neither does the sandwich. And the meatloaf is NOT your grandma's brick: tender, charred at the edges, laid over silky mashed potatoes with broccolini, perhaps closer to a chop steak than a loaf in the best possible way. Vibe is farm-chic: old church pews, repurposed interior doors, a proper bar up front, plus a patio and rooftop for when the weather cooperates. Fun fact -- it's named after the blue duck Billy Madison paints in elementary school, which is a fantastic piece of trivia and tells you absolutely nothing accurate about the actual restaurant. 4.7 Stars. Picking Nits: the counter-order setup is efficient, but it sets expectations in the wrong direction for the first 90 seconds, you brace for fast-casual and instead get something considerably more ambitious. Food comes out fast once you've ordered, which is great if you're hungry and slightly jarring if you wanted a slow, lingering dinner. And the Billy Madison naming is charming trivia but entirely misleading as a vibe preview, no complaints about the actual restaurant, just the branding expectations it sets. If The Blue Duck were a character: Ron Swanson. Hear me out. If Ron ate here, he'd be suspicious of the entire experience until his first bite of protein -- the counter ordering, the repurposed doors, a burger named after a fellow mustachioed American, all of it registering as potentially too clever. Then the Sam Elliott hits his plate, he takes one bite, and the skepticism dissolves into the quiet respect of a man who has found his people. Looks rustic. Has strong feelings about meat. Secretly sophisticated -- plays saxophone in a jazz club under a fake name, builds his own furniture, would 100% approve of the farm-chic decor once the protein has spoken. Presents as simple. Isn't.
