I hired Bob for a second project after I was happy with his work from the first project- again his work was absolutely perfect! This time I had him move a large iron gate from one part of my driveway to another part, as well as crawl thru a super tight attic space to install a light over a shower and added new outlets for a new dishwasher and vent hood I was preparing to install. His solution for anchoring the gate was brilliant! The electric work is perfect and he also helped me attach a sink drain (with materials I already had but couldn't configure to save my life) at no extra charge. He is very good with his communication, both in person and via text... we walked thru the project beforehand and he asked lots of questions so that we were both on the exact same page.
I was not going to be home on the day of completion, so I instructed him on how to get into the house. He is a self-professed animal lover and was cognizant of my pets as he went about his business, even hanging around after he was done as I was only 20 minutes away and did a walkthrough to make sure I was happy with his work!
What I really appreciated was that he allowed my son (who is a welder) to do the welding portion of the project. When we got to the part where he submits his formal quote to me before completing the project (which is exactly what you want your contractor to do!) he asked what my son was going to charge for his services... I hadn't thought of that! So he explained what his regular welder would charge for a similar job, saying that of course I am free to just ask my kid to do it for free. I'm glad he didn't assume my kid would do it for free and shame on me for assuming he would (which he would because he's a great kid!), I took the amount his guy usually charges and decided to deduct it from my son's rent- because a skilled tradesman SHOULD be compensated for his time and know how!
Bob pays attention to the small details, both in his business accounting and in his handy work. He explains every single charge and provides receipts for materials... you are made aware of where every penny of your deposit is going and why. I lost a LOT of money to a dishonest contractor 4 years ago so I totally understand being apprehensive about paying someone any amount up front, but having done this with Bob twice now I can confidently say that he is NOT the kind of businessman to misspend or steal your project money!
Hire him with confidence!!!!
