Cheers mate!
Victor H.

Met up with a friend here in early October during my stay in Arlington. He suggested this spot as it was near his hotel room. Once he mentioned the name of this place, it reminded me of a location in the Clarendon area with the same name; one that was about brews and board games. I wondered if this place would be identical to that. Well upon entering, it hit me that it is similar but with fewer tables due to the size of the building. All the tables were packed with people playing board games such as Scrabble and Sorry. My friend was at the bar area since tvs were blaring there and we hung there. We sipped on beers the entire time and chatted it up. Beer selection does have a few locals and some domestic favorites; we switched between some IPAs and the Porter (forgot the names/types sadly) which were tasty. The bartender made sure our beers were always filled up which was attentive of him. The interior has some side tables at the front and more in the back along with some shelves of board games available for the choosing. Not sure of the rules regarding picking your game but this is a great concept in the DC area; especially if you don't want to drink alcohol and only want games for socializing. If you don't want to game and just drink, the bar area is there for that too. There's a good amount of seating at the bar and I'm glad my friend got a spot for us there. It's a clean joint that serves a good purpose. We enjoyed our time and then started getting hungry and realized they don't serve food. That's when we decided to saddle up and head out for grub. As we walked out the door, we talked about meeting up here again when I'm in Arlington/DC; maybe next time we'll do a game of Monopoly for old time sake!

We first stopped in here about 1am, after finally arriving at our hotel down the street. From what I found in my searches, this place was the only place open late in the immediate area. We were just interested in having a couple of drinks to decompress from our long drive. There were not many patrons here when we arrived and the bartender did not seem too excited to be there. Hubs went simple and just ordered beers. I ordered fancy cocktails and they were delicious! The Mulled cider definitely hit the spot. I wish we were able to spend more time here. There were so many games to play and the space was massive. I definitely will stop in again if we are in the area.

The general mess of games. Some good ones in there, but not maintained at all.

So, was very excited to go find a place to play some games and relax. Being a bit of a board game nerd, I was expecting to find a well curated and cared for set of games to enjoy with my family. The games are just jammed on a few shelves by the door and very beat up. Played Azul, Ticket to Ride SF, Qwirkle, Llamas Unleashed. All were missing pieces, direction books either missing or just completely torn and disassembled. The tables are really too low for games and you play hunched over and have to yell at each other as the place gets very loud. Good selection of local beers and a full bar. No food, but bringing your own is fine. Good for casual gaming/party gaming. They have some bigger games there that I can't even imaging fitting on the tables they have. Lots of TVs with general sports on them. Mostly a board gamed theme sports bar. But it must be working for them as at night they will charge you $3 per game. Not sure if you get a discount for missing pieces.

So much fun! We brought in our own food and took advantage of the happy hour until 7 - drinks were nice and strong (great bartending!) and the selection of games were great!

This spot is perfect for a chill evening with friends!! They have a big assortment of games of all types to play while you chat and/or drink. It is solely a bar without any food but you are allowed to bring in outside food which is great. I loved spending time here, playing games and talking. During happy hour the games are free, but after 7pm they say you have to pay $3 a game. (wasn't enforced while I was there but it was not crowded at all)

The Board Room is a great place to chill and play board games with your friends. The bar has a great variety of beer, wine and cocktails. The area is large enough for groups and also provides cozy spaces for couples to hang out. They host recurring themed game nights and other events. My husband and I only had time for a quick stop before going to dinner at a nearby restaurant, which is another good point, they do not serve food at the Board Room, but there are plenty of nearby eateries. We will definitely comeback. Thanks!

Ask the Community - Board Room

How old do you have to be to get in? It’s my 21st birthday next week but my boyfriend is 20.

It's a bar, so I'm fairly certain you have to be 21. There is upstairs seating though, so I'd suggest calling them to be sure. Happy birthday!

Is this a place to watch sports on tv as well as play board games? Or does anyone know a cool place to watch the Grapefruit Opener (Nats) today? Thanks!

Yes...there are plenty of tv's to watch sports

If you come with just two people, what are the chances that you can join up with another group to play a game? Is it that social?

Highly unlikely...but that just may be my experience.

I guess that's why she came at me more like "what do you want" as opposed to "table or bar?" Anyways, I ordered the BBQ beef on weck but it was salty and soggy. The Cole slaw was so plain and untangy. And I had to get up to ask for a fork. Only reason I ate this nasty food is because I was high and hungry. Only reason I stopped by was to watch the Bucks @ Wizards game and while they did have the game on the big screen, the audio was for a WNBA game playing on a different TV that nobody was watching. They might have better food and service on a different night and I'd really like to see it if they do because otherwise the place is chill and the TV screens are freaking ginormous.

Chris the manager was very friendly amazing service. Definitely will come back thanks to him!…read more Food, Service was amazing, ambiance is was lovely outside.

be sure to check the math on your credit slip, this place stacks their charges and miscalculates…read moretheir surcharges and tipping. A recent redditor visiting the city had two beers and a buffalo chicken sandwich: $36.98 in menu prices, but their total came to $52.03 in cash or $53.50 by card. The place added a 6% "DC Minimum Wage Act" service charge ($2.44). The receipt says this is not a tip, and it isn't - but it was calculated on the food plus tax, not just the food, and then the included gratuity is calculated on top of this. The requirement to calculate the (arbitrary) 6% before tax comes from D.C. Tax Code § 47-2001 and Office of Tax and Revenue regulations: Sales tax must be applied to a service fee, not the other way around. Then, a 20% gratuity ($8.67) was added automatically, calculated on the total including tax and also the service charge, rather than on the food. And after these two additions, a 3% credit card fee, which came to $1.47 on the bill. This is stacking their charges. Could be inadvertent but that says something else about the place. This same order with tax and a normal 20% tip would be about $48. These fees cost the visitor about $4 to $5.50 more than that, and the tip was decided for them of course. If you go, check your receipt carefully. I did not eat here: I'm incensed for the person visiting my city who got taken like this.

Great spot to watch World Cup games if you've been looking around for options!…read more The space is fairly massive with plenty of screens, so even for popular games you'll likely be able to find a space to perch. I was concerned that for a highly anticipated match it might just be standing room only. But even with a 9pm start and a 9:30pm arrival, my friend and I both were able to find some seats. The bartenders were attentive while appearing to be laid back and kind. Even the food people ordered looked pretty good as well! If there is a good game on with highs and lows, the energy of the crowd really matches the energy of the game. Since there is so much space, those celebratory moments just feel joyful instead of overwhelming. Overall, nice lil vibe and I wouldn't hesitate to return!

My spouse and I decided to treat ourselves on a beautiful Thursday night and - hold on - The Admiral was the place we selected. Ok, so it's halfway between our office and our house but even if it were WAY out of the way, we would gladly go there. The food is solid, the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, the service is always perfection. This time I had the Filibuster Smash Burger. OMG so good! A 4 ounce burger patty topped with shaved steak, some sort of sauce that kept it moist and tasty and some veggies to make my doctor happy. The menu said the sauce had jalapeno in it but there is not even a hint of spiciness on this burger. However, it is a total huge mess to eat so I had to eat like a grandpa, cutting the burger with a knife. But I didn't care because I loved this burger! My spouse had the All American Burger and he put the server through his paces asking for every topping to be served on the side. Sounds like a mean thing to do but the server gladly satisfied his wishes. To be honest, my spouse enjoyed the burger immensely and added only the toppings he wanted, in the amounts he wanted and there is nothing wrong with that. Our server, Declan, was very friendly, fast and served us perfectly. So, another great meal at The Admiral with great food, great service and great times!!!! Cydney took my order, and although I had to repeat myself a few times over all the noise, she got everything PERFECT. I ordered the Lobster Garlic Noodles with salmon, and that was all I needed. With the crowd, I fully expected to be standing around until after 8 PM, but Cydney handed me my food around 7:45. I'm not gonna lie, I was a little skeptical like, "Wait...has my food been sitting somewhere?" Chile...NO. I got in the car, opened that container, took one bite and immediately started eating like I didn't have a home to go to. The noodles were HOT, the pasta was perfectly al dente, and the garlic flavor was GARLICKING! There was a good amount of lobster and shrimp, plenty of that garlicky sauce, and the salmon completed the whole situation. Meanwhile, the dine-in wait was running about 1-1 1/2 HOURS, so that takeout order felt like I had cracked the code. Thanks, Cydney, for taking care of me in the middle of all that chaos! I'll definitely be back whenever that Lobster Garlic Noodles craving hits again...because now I know exactly what I'm coming for.
