Born and raised in East L.A. I have had the opportunity to experience different types of Mexican foods. Eating the food in East L.A. makes me proud of tradition. All my life my parents have taken myself and my two brothers to East L.A. to eat good authentic Mexican food that bring back memories of my childhood. My wife and I went the Blvd Cafe in East L.A. on Whittier Blvd this street has lots of history since before my wife and I were born. My dad told me the restaurants were call hole in the walls or a diamond in the ruff. These were restaurants that cooked traditional old school Mexican food from different part of region of Mexico. Stepping in the restaurant it feel going back time with rich with history of Whittier Blvd. At time we went in the restaurant was busy with family and a tradition Mexican meal. We were seated right away the menu was really simple to understand. We look at the menu and what we like to order my wife decided to order the Nopals con huevo in english is cactus with eggs. I decided to order the chilaquiles con huevo con salsa verde it's chilaquiles with egg with green salas. The waitress bought us our meal wow I say it looks like be made by the traditional way. I took a bite of my chilaquiles it was so good so many flavors in the salas verde and crunch of the fried tortilla but the egg tops it. I really enjoy it the dish. My wife enjoy the nopals con huevo very much. My wife and I need to come back again soon and try another different dish but also come in early and beat the crowed.

This spot is a bit hard to find. It blends in with the rest of the stores on Whittier blvd. Once you find this spot you won't regret it. This is like a mom and pop shop/home made food if you will, very delicious. I usually come on Saturday/Sunday to get the menudo plate. The prices are very reasonable. I've tried the taquitos/flautas, and the tortas de pollo. All of the things I've tried have been excellent. Once you sit down to eat they serve you chips and salsa. The salsa is really good but spicy. They do serve to go plates as well. The environment is really laid back and welcoming. They have a/c. The best part is they make the orders pretty quick so you don't wait long.

How this place is still in business, blows my mind. From the canned beans to the canned green sauce on the chilaquiles, far from meeting any type of expectation. Below average bland, tasting food leaves it's patrons disappointed. Hole in the wall but the authenticity and flavor is not there. Look elsewhere if you are in the area.

Love this mom and pop restaurant! Everything from the food to the horchata is amazing. This is my must stop when I'm visiting East LA

Our waiter was personable and took our order quickly as well as consistently replenished our drinking water. Everything was delicious and had its own unique flavor, from the chickpea fritters which had softness and crunchiness, the goat mousse with sweet and savory sauces and the crumpets and crackers; then the goat belly with a deliciously crisp skin and soft inside and intense flavor (but not gamey) with a rich sauce, the steak was yummy and precut, and the pork shank which was epic! I loved all the greens and pita to wrap the pork and goodies into! We ended with a bday scoop of mango sticky ice cream which was completely different than I've had before and yummy.

With things like goat curry and gluten free options, you gotta have rice. Second, they ran out of goat curry. I came all the way from San Diego to try it. Oh well. Excuse to come back. I loved every bite I tried. There was nothing that disappointed. The standouts were the green beans, the Brussels sprouts that came with the chicken, the pork shank and the tuna and crunchy quinoa salad. I'm still thinking of that crunchy quinoa. We had no room for dessert. So maybe next time we try the goat curry, get the quinoa salad again and get dessert! The service was great too. Attentive but not overbearing. It's a cute restaurant both inside and outside.

My wife and I stopped here a few weekends back for lunch and I was pleasantly surprised with just how much I enjoyed the food. The ambiance here is pretty generic, white and bright and very copy and paste of a lot of places popping up recently. The staff was super friendly while taking our orders and dropping the food off, which is always appreciated. I ended up ordering the Santo's Turkey Melt which is smoked turkey, grilled onions, Swiss cheese, and chipotle aioli served on sourdough with a side of french fries. The sandwich was really good and the same can be said for the french fries and I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of fries given, so thumbs up to that. I forgot what the food costs so I visited the website and for some reason they don't think it's important to put that online, which is pretty darn stupid if you ask me. Overall, I didn't have a bad experience at Sandcouch Cafe and I would visit again in the future thanks to it's convenient location. The food was solid and the staff was friendly, and that's really all I need when ordering a sandwich.
