I LOVE THE BOOKSTORE…read more They have everything. Office supplies (my weakness), gifts (both UofA themed and not, in varying levels of tackiness), a decent selection of cards, a pharmacy (with my favourite pharmacist)... oh, and books too. I can spend a lot of time wandering around in here, choosing notebooks and pens. Lately their selection of whiteboard markers has been pretty bad though (if you care about that). The best item they've ever sold? The Butterdome butter dish. Apparently other people don't agree with me though... they've got a big stack on for $1 and they still can't seem to get rid of them.

If you're a U of A student, or were one in the past, you probably hate this place. It's where you…read morehad to endure incredibly long line-ups just to give the university more of your money. Been there, done that. And now I'm here to say, it's not all that bad. I still think that the U of A is like every other college bookstore, and hikes up textbook prices disgustingly high. Photocopied course packages can also be just as expensive, only you're not getting the book covers with it. C'mon, you can't tell me copyright is that high right now. I'll let you in on a secret: I was a total advocate of getting the books from the library and photocopying them myself. Saved me loads of money. After all, we're students, not bank accounts. So the infamous bookstore (also housing the Microstore and Health Sciences bookstore) is located on the lower level. The entire store is pretty big, with a students pharmacy and gifts section on the main upper level. Practically everything has the U of A crest of course -- men and women's clothing, mugs, clocks, pens and stationary supplies, backpacks ... the list goes on. They also have fun gift items like jewelry, stuffed animals and dolls, and some Christmas decorations. I also saw a rack of winter Crocs. Yes, that's right, winter Crocs. They're pretty much the same as the regular version, only they're lined with fleece so that they're actually slippers. Oh my god, will the Crocs never end? These hideous things keep popping up everywhere. It's like they know they can't survive past summer so they have to figure out a way to haunt us in the winter too. I'm glad I no longer have to worry about buying textbooks, cause they really are expensive. I can just come here now to pick up neat little gift items, or U of A memorabilia, when I'm on campus and have nothing to do. Unlike the books, the rest of the merchandise is reasonably priced.

We took a chance on Sara's and I'm so glad we did. It was the second store we went to. We walked in on May 19th, with Grad coming up on June 7th. The saleslady acknowledged that it was a tight timeline, but wasn't worried. She explained the layout of the store and let us look around for a few minutes. She was incredibly helpful with pulling dresses and getting them done up. We found THE dress quite easily. It was only the second or third one that was tried on, but there was no interest in anything else after that. They had the correct size/colour combo in their warehouse and said it would be in in a week. So, back we went on May 24th to try on the dress again. The seamstress was standing by to make note of what we wanted done, and made a few suggestions. I was worried but she assured me that the dress would be ready by June 5th and it would be perfect. She was right. It was absolutely stunning. It fit perfect and the alterations were amazing. The dress was $525 and the alterations were $189, but hey... you only graduate once! I would definitely recommend this store to others. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Side note... on one of our visits to the store, there was a lady there trying on dresses for her wedding. She was probably in her 40s or 50s and mentioned that this was her 3rd wedding. The staff gushed over her like they would any young bride and helped her find the dress of her dreams. It was so heartwarming to watch.

I am truly pleased that it ought to arrive in plenty of time for the special occasion for which I have ordered this dress. While this place only has limited space, they use every inch of it for dresses and the three dressing rooms. I liked how there were a couple of chairs for people to sit along with candies to eat. Additionally staff were very helpful in ensuring good fit and picking out options.
