I came to Bamboo Ballroom for the first time last week after receiving a gift certificate to the store from a Yelp Event (Yea Yelp!). I was pleasantly surprised by the array of jewellery available by local artists. The store was bright, airy, modern, and fresh! I loved the tree at the entrance to the store used to display local jewellery! I found most of the clothing a little out of my price range - but many beautiful pieces none the less. I ended up purchasing a gorgeous little change purse after drooling over dozens and dozens of items. Especially when on the hunt for a unique piece of jewellery for myself or a gift, I will definitely be returning to this store when in the area! read more

Anytime I'm on Whyte Ave, I stop into Bamboo Ballroom. I love this store. So many local designers are stocked there. Usually there are only a handful of sizes so if you see something you like you better get it fast. It's guaranteed to be gone the next time you go. I keep an eye on their Instagram to see new items as they get them in. Then get down there to snap up those must have items. It's great to have something totally different from the rest and Bamboo Ballroom lets you do just that. Best of all it's great to be supporting local designers. A lot of the clothes can be pricey but they are good quality. The displays are great and on the whole the store is well laid out. It's lovely to peruse the wares, especially the jewelry designers they showcase. When I'm struggling to find a gift for someone this place always delivers. This is another trendy store on Whyte Avenue that sells a lot of really nice clothes, but carries really small sizes. I hate to take it out on Bamboo Ballroom, but I am getting rather frustrated with these store, when they don't even carry a single size 14 or an Extra Large shirt. It was too bad too, because I found a few top that I absolutely love, but they were just a little too small for me. They were way too expensive anyways. I'm not sure how I could justify spending $150 on a shirt. I have a hard time jusifying spending just $60. The space is nice, with its hardwood floor and all, but the prices and sizes suck. I'll still give it three stars though, because I guess it's not their fault that nothing there fits me and that I haven't won the lottery yet. read more

I didn't LOVE this store, like many other reviewers have. I find the clothes expensive and the staff a little snotty. I am not a tiny, girl and these clothes did not flatter my body at all. The staff gave me a weird look when I walked in, and I was never greeted or offered help finding anything. I felt very out of place. I really did like their accessories. There is a small selection, but I really like the stuff they do have. If you are a tiny girl, this store is probably perfect for you. But if you have curves like me, you probably won't find anything that will fit. Too bad too because I do like their clothes. read more

This is a great store! I've been in here a couple of times before and I just love a lot of their simple but really fashionable looking clothes. They have a great selection of jeans that have some really simple but nice designs on the back pocket, but they are a bit pricy. They have some really cute tops and have that old meets modern but classy kind of look. They don't have too many accessories but the ones they do have are extremely unique and very modern. They have some headbands with feathers and a cute little bird on the one side of it. I know that sounds crazy but that look is totally in. Their store is really nice and neat with large open areas. It makes walking around very smooth; you don't hit anything or feel trapped. The girl that was working the day I walked in was really nice and super sweet. She let me just look around and do my thing. This is the store that I love to come into and walk around and make mental notes of all the items I wish I could fit into or afford to by. Bamboo Ballroom always carries a wide variety of great brands like S&K, Free People and Gentle Fawn, but I love that they also carry pieces by local designers too! How many other shops in town can you say that about? Not only that, they have a corner full of vintage stuff that had me swooning. Seriously, a vintage lover's dream! Also lots of locally designed jewelry as part of their unique and ever-changing jewelry selection. The ladies here are always friendly and quick to say hello too. Love, love, LOVE Bamboo Ballroom! It's amazing that they support local makers and designers, not to mention that they do a fantastic job curating - all fashions are always in style and I sort of like the exclusivity of their small-batch stocking method, because you don't see everyone walking around in the same outfit as you the next week. If you buy something from Bamboo, you know it's going to be a unique addition to your wardrobe and that it's going to be great quality. As a boutique, prices are higher than some retail stores, but I've had some of my Bamboo purchases for like seven years, so I don't think twice about dropping a few extra dollars on something I love (and couldn't find elsewhere) that I know is going to last. In addition, the jewellery selection is beautiful. I literally found my dream necklace (simple silver sea horse, with subtle sparkles) last summer and I'm always so impressed with the jewellery display. Lastly, I love the terrariums that are sometimes kept in stock. The store space itself is beautiful, with floor-to-ceiling windows, and the addition of hanging terrariums for purchase really brings some extra life to the room. I bought a beautiful hanging geometric enclosure with an air plant for my house and I absolutely love it. Great for me and for gifts! read more

Visiting independent boutiques can be a touch dicey at times, especially ones with higher price points (what can I say, I like a bargain!) and holier-than-thou staffers. Many such shops seem to populate Edmonton's Whyte Ave., but not this one... Ladies and gentlemen, I'm talking about Bamboo Ballroom! The staff at -- oh, let's just go ahead and call it 'BB' for funsies -- are incredibly friendly, knowledgable and unassuming. Every time I leave the store I feel happier for having gone in, even when I haven't purchased a thing. The girls who work there seem to enjoy chatting with and helping customers as much as they like making a sale, which is something you don't come across in this kind of environment every day. In my humble opinion, good customer service is hard to come by in this town, but BB has it in spades... Not to mention the fact that they carry and support local designers, which is always ace in my book. All in all, I give them five gold stars for being oh-so awesome. read more

I came in here with my cousin on Canada day as she was wanting to browse some of the high end boutiques on Whyte to see if she could find something to wear to her friends wedding. For myself personally as a woman that takes average shirt sizes but plus size pants these higher end stores are always hit and miss because while the potential exists to sell me shirts,hoodies,blouses etc I often find I receive a lack of customer service because it's very obvious from looking at me that I won't fit the bottoms and perhaps staff are worried about offending me or not interested because they know I likely won't give them a large sale. My cousin on the other hand is a volleyball player who is in phenomenal shape and even she couldn't get any customer service out of these girls. I don't know if it had anything to do with the fact that she also has a prosthetic leg but it seemed like anytime we moved anywhere close to a staff member they slowly inched away back towards the counter. The most humorous moment being when one went to move a mannequin and two more felt the task was a three person job meanwhile my cousin was forced to pull a t shirt over top of her tank top to try it on because nobody was offering her a dressing room. They have some decent brand names like Gentle Fawn and Free People and also seem to promote local designers which is why I will give a second star but after the treatment we received here I have no more than two stars to offer them and both my cousin and I will definitely not be returning. I recommend Loft 82 if your looking to shop high end brand names and get some great customer service. read more

I needed to get the girlfriend something nice and I heard good things from Bamboo so I went to take a look. I'm terrible at shopping for clothes (especially for others) but luckily the staff were very helpful. I showed them some pictures of her off my phone to give them a better idea of her "style" and they helped pick out a really nice shirt and a necklace. I absolutely love the space that Bamboo Ballroom is in. It's got huge windows, hardwood floors, and a lovely spacious feeling to the store. It isn't cluttered with loads of stuff. Instead, it's got a good selection of things, neatly organized. I'm a sucker for things that are nicely put together - mess is a major retail turnoff. Another thing that's a turnoff for me? The price. Bamboo Ballroom is a little pricier than the places I usually frequent. While the clothing and accessories are very nice, I just can't justify spending that much money on them. I do love to come into the store and browse and to pick out the things that I would buy if I were to suddenly become a billionaire with loads of expendable income. read more

I'm a huge fan of The Bamboo Ballroom for so many reasons. While I don't fit the sizes they carry currently, I do love all of the fashions they bring in. I also love that they typically only bring in styles with only one in each size so that you're getting a more special and unique piece. They have a great selection of brands, including local, that make for a great shopping experience. You have probably seen them around town and you can find your (eye) heart yeg shirts here. The Bamboo Ballroom lip glosses come in stunning colours and are a perfect addition for any gift or for yourself of course. And speaking of accessories, you can accessorize both yourself and your house here with adorable terrariums and incredible local jewellery, scarves, sunshine glasses, Matt and Nat products and more. There's a ton of denim and watch for the annual event wherae you can bring in your old denim (to be donated) where you'll then save on new jeans. The Bamboo Ballroom gives back to the community in multiple ways, this being one of them. I just love the shop if you're looking for a unique, and likely local gift at any price point. I love to drool over the fashions too and look forward to the day where I can fit them - for now, I'll keep shopping the accessories area. read more

This might just be my favourite little store on Whyte. Well, it's not exactly on Whyte, it's just a half a block off, but you know what I'm saying. My style ranges from preppy to retro to urban depending on my mood that day. But I know that when I go to Bamboo Ballroom, I can always find something stylish and on-trend. There's an awesome selection of brands, including one of my favourites, BB Dakota. Lots of bright, colourful feminine pieces in here that are more in my price range than some other boutiques on Whyte. I love that they also carry Matt&Nat accessories, plus some local items. The staff here are always really friendly. I know they host private shopping parties, which I would love to try someday as well! Hair and skin care are provided by expert stylists and estheticians. The store has an unusual atmosphere, with a retro flair but modern feel. BB is especially known for its collection of denim. I really like the selection of designers, and the fact that I can shop there and still have money in my wallet left over at the end. read more

A great place to shop! The store is stocked with beautiful clothes at a variety of price ranges- so there is something for everyone! They also make an effort to support local designers, which is fabulous too! And I love how they also support local Edmonton charities as well- there is nothing better than getting a discount on your new jeans purchase, because you brought in an old pair for charity :) I absolutely adore their jewellery selection- if you're ever in need of a great gift, make sure you stop by here! On the upside Bamboo Ballroom is a pleasant shop- a mix of North American labels(bb dakota,bench,etc) and some indie jewelers.Nice to see some support for smaller lines as it's tough for the business owner to keep up with all the forever 21's that everybody can't seem to stop shopping at. Staff was nice and let me know the new spring products that were in.Lots of bright colors and i picked up a wallet by Mat/n Nat. This shop is a a great place for young trendsetters . As i'm a little more bohemian I moved on but nice to see an edmonton shop on the strip.Expect to pay boutique prices which seemed very fair and enjoy keeping local stores healthy. read more

Everything about the world at the moment seems upside down and a bit chaotic. COVID-19 and social distancing and mandatory closures of so many types of businesses it is all A LOT to take in. I'm sure I'm not the only one but retail therapy does make it a little easier and if at these uncertain times I can kill two birds with one stone - why not. I wanted to make myself feel a bit better and do a little shopping and also support a local business. Long story short, I just wanted to thank the staff at Bamboo Ballroom for being accommodating and flexible (I apparently didn't read the fine print, my bad). They easily could've said "sorry, we can't help you" and at the end of the day I misinterpreted and it was on me but instead they made it really easy to get me the correct item. I know I wouldn't have been able to do this at a big box store and would've been stuck with it. I really appreciated their willingness to find a solution that wasn't like pulling teeth. I felt they valued my business and I'll continue to support them. Great shop, trendy and stylish and definitely recommend. read more

I was really disappointed in the customer service when entering Bamboo Ballroom. There were a couple other customers in the store at the time who were receiving excellent customer service, however, me being the shorter, curvier, darker customer, I did not get so much as a greeting. In fact one of the girls working there stared at me, no smile, not saying anything. It was very uncomfortable. Although I'm a curvy body-type some of the sizes would have still fit me, I was too uncomfortable to stay long or dare to ask to try anything on. This is a beautiful store with some great pieces, a lovely space, and really helpful staff. I stopped in for a shirt for an evening event and I found one almost immediately. The sales staff were lovely and made sure to check in on me regularly without being pushy. I wanted to buy almost everything in the store! It's a local boutique, so prices are a little higher than mall stores, but it's worth it for the immense variety and unique styles available. This was my first time visiting and I'm a huge fan. It is true that they do not carry a lot of items, but I think anyone who is into fashion will find something here. I love the jeans they carry. I've been a regular at this store for a few years now and I have to say that each season the clothes are better than the last! They keep adding new brands and while they have items that are expensive (but worth it) they have new budget friendly brands that are amazing! I also really like the staff, they're friendly but not annoying and seem to give really honest opinions - I've been guided to items that would better suit me than the ones I've picked out for myself and I really appreciate that - it keeps me coming back! Bamboo Ballroom is a cute trendy store. There isn't that much stuff here, so you won't be overwhelmed. In fact, there are only two or three racks which are densely packed with clothes. The clothing sold at Bamboo Ballroom is elegant and minimalistic. What you will find here are jeans, pants, tops, skirts, dresses and some outerwear. And don't miss bags, scarves and gloves (made of real leather right here in Edmonton!). For me, Bamboo Ballroom is similar to Ginger where the owner stocks the store with fewer clothes that one would expect but which are of good quality. I did notice that most of the items at Bamboo Ballroom are synthetic however they do look nicely tailored and unique. During my last visit I located amazing belted wool dress which unfortunately was too big on me. What I love about this store is that they carry small sizes. Finding pants and slim fit tops are real drag for me, and Bamboo Ballroom provides a nice relief. Generally, this small store is really worth checking out. Sales girls are friendly and helpful; don't pressure customers into buying anything; and if you come here with your guy, there is a couch at the front where he can sit down and relax while you scan Bamboo Ballroom's selection of trendy clothes and chat with sales associates. read more

I discovered this trendy shop after a visit to the hair salon, Shanti. The girls at the hair dresser all shop here and since they all look fabulous - even on a bad hair day - I had to pop in to check it out. Bamboo has lots of '80's inspired baggie shirts with shoulder slits, designer tops from British label, Bench, unique House of Spy pieces, Seven For Mankind jeans, wooden jewelry from local designers and much more than I can often afford. You definitely pay a premium here to blend with the hip kids who work and play on Whyte Ave. but there's always a sales rack if you don't mind joining the ranks of the cool at season's end. If you're like me and you shop for Christmas ornaments and bathing suits off-season, then you can still look trendy but save a few precious pennies in the process. A lot of these clothes are so edgy and cool I'm afraid to spend the money on them only to have them go out of style, so I usually settle on pieces that are a bit more classic. read more
