As a vintage enthusiast, I've read reviews of Tattered Rose for the last year and been dying to check it out. It's not in an area that I pass by often but I has an appointment nearby and as I was parking I spotted the sign. Luckily I was 20 mins early, giving me the perfect place to kill time! The store is underneath some apartments but tokes over half of the ground level by the looks of it. A fantastic big space, filled from top to bottom with vintage treasures. The owner does a great job creating cute corners highlighting furniture, decor, ornaments and clothing. I immediately wished I had more time to browse! The clothing is divided into rails of amazing dresses from the Victorian era and more. The underskirt section was unreal and made me wanna dress like a steam punk to my meeting. So cool. Lots of eclectic and romantic bits for a vintage wedding. Just wonderful. read more

It's funny how I never noticed this place before, because it's a pretty neat little boutique. Very original and very different! It's got women's clothing and accessories, but everything is in a dark, edgy Victorian style. And I mean everything. Although I wouldn't personally wear anything from here, they've got a lot of unique pieces if you love all things vintage and Victorian. The shop is divided into two halves, one side displaying ivory and lighter clothing, while the other has darker, more gothic Victorian clothes. Lots of lace, which makes everything very feminine. They've also got tons of unique jewelry pieces towards the back of the store. Pretty stuff, but a little too much on the showy side for me.There are also Victorian-style corsets and lingerie in the back, along with lots of handbags and home decor items. The store itself is impeccably decorated from floor to ceiling ,and I found myself in awe of the interior design even more than the clothes themselves. It makes you feel as if you've stepped into a dark and abandoned secret garden! So this place is definitely worth checking out, even if you're not planning on getting anything, because it's interesting to say the least. But if you do have an eclectic and vintage style, or plan on dressing up as a dark angel for Halloween, this place is good for that! read more

This is one of my top favourite shoppes to visit in Edmonton. When you enter this store it evokes an era of romance. It's as if a John Singer Sargent painting came to life. You feel like you could be in a Paris salon in the 1800s. With fashions and accessories corsets, crinolines (petticoat), bohemian, Victorian, romantic, eclectic clothing, antiques, home decor for those that love a touch of romance. I have purchased many beautiful items from this lovely boutique. I discovered this boutique 6-7 years ago when it was located on 123 Street and followed it to this new location. This store has limited hours and I understand why, as the owner is a designer and spends her off hours designing one-of-a-kind couture pieces. I really appreciate the staff and find her most helpful in finding the right style, colour and cut to flatter any body shape. She really has a great eye for fashion. I purchased the most luscious black velvet tattered opera coat that is truly a timeless work of art. I also found a long periwinkle blue vintage silk dress (designed by Estée Parker a designer who had dressed Jacki and JFK's daughter, Carolyn Kennedy in the 1960s) in this shop. I had to have this unique piece of history, which I've worn to a couple of formal events. I would certainly recommend a visit to this hidden fashion gem in Edmonton. You never know what you will discover in this shoppe. There was a mannequin that made me look twice, as I thought she was Claire time travelling from Diana Gabaldon's 'Outlander' to Tattered Rose in Edmonton. I was in yesterday and noticed the most unique long ivory coat designed by Ms Simons on display. She finds unique fabrics to work with and many vintage fabrics never to be repeated. It's wonderful to shop and support local designers like Carol. I love the quote "Life's too short to wear boring clothes." - Cushnie et Ochs. This place is a feast for the eyes. The store is located in Rosedale Place 9917 -110 Street. Edmonton you do not know how lucky you are to have this little piece of Parisan style couture in the city. I just love the name of this eclectic boutique. It's got such a rogue romantic feel. Driving by this shop, I'm often drawn in by the window displays, which are ever-changing and filled with beautiful dresses that layer, cinch, billow and pool, like turn-of-the-century clothing with a Lady-of-the-night or cabaret edge. Unfortunately, when I stop by the shop it's often closed. Hours are a bit shorter than regular business hours: Wednesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and they're closed Monday, Tuesday and Sunday. But if you have a chance to visit and browse, you'll be mesmerized by the many racks of beautiful fabrics: lace, chiffon, velvet, linen, silk, taffeta and more. I love the accessories, like the oodles of bead strands and broach renditions of the classic cameo pin. The merchandise, some of which is one-of-a-kind handmade, is not inexpensive, but you'll have an original piece for your wardrobe. read more

Okay, now go to Tattered Rose and get some Victorian inspired pieces of your very own. Or think Goth, Boho, but heavy on Raphaelite romance. You can kick it up or tone it down in terms of creating a "style" look. Some items are so chic they translate well as simple, tasteful and current, period. I wasn't nearly daring enough on my first trip and only went for staple pieces when there was a rainbow of possibilities. Champagne taste on beer budget unfortunately. Most ladies won't peep at the price because it's also good quality.Those pieces I do have will be wardrobe staples for years! Timeless. Quality, uniqueness, great atmosphere and the staff is awesome. Very cool vintage clothing, jewelry, and some decor. Love the styles that have been put together on the mannequins. I found a lovely long open sweater that I purchased, and I know my curiosity will bring me back to browse for more. Good place to find some unique pieces. One of the outfits on display reminded me of a pretty, gothic, western, steampunk look. The woman in the shop is super nice too. Make a date to go there, because it's not in an area with much passerby traffic and it has limited hours of operation. Neat place. read more

The boyfriend and I came across it one day while on a walk apartment hunting and went inside. Went with my sister (the bride) and mother to try on wedding dresses. It was a horrible experience. Very rude, unprofessional, insulting, sales service. Sold the wedding coat my sister was called in for. Would not let my sister try certain dresses based on how she felt (it should be about the bride willing to spend hundreds of dollars at your store), and actually accused the mother of the bride that she was trying to steal designs (this based off of my mother relating a COMPLIMENT that she also sews and loves the designs). To top this, the owner posted a passive aggressive post on facebook on wedding gown etiquette accusing my sister of wasting her time and my mother of stealing designs. Do not shop here if you would like an enjoyable experience searching for wedding gowns. read more

Wow! The clothing selection is absolutely beautiful! A lot of Victorian-inspired wear and lace, though I believe there could be a piece in there for anyone. Slightly pricey but worth every penny, I am IN LOVE with everything I've ever bought there, even years later ;). The boutique itself is decorated immaculately, very romantic atmosphere. The hours unfortunately are a bit of a setback sometime (though I'm sure my wallet is thankful for that) as they are open daytime hours and closed on Sunday & Monday I believe. read more

Tattered Rose, for me, is my absolute favourite clothing store ever... and I have been to Paris, New York, London, Budapest, Prague, Amsterdam. I live in Saskatoon, and bought my first 2 pieces of clothing over 10 years ago when Tattered Rose was located in Winnipeg. I still love those pieces and will continue to wear them as they are timeless. I am a Tattered Rose blog follower, and plan road trips just to get my Tattered Rose fix. There is so much to see, that I find I need at minimum 3 hours to view the store. The fabrics, designs, store decor is exquisite. The clothing is feminine, vintage inspired with a bit of an edge, just what I am looking for. I do not find the clothing costumey at all, in fact quite the opposite. The pieces are unique and interesting. Carol is a master at displaying her items in a really unusual and style accessible way. This world class boutique is a must shopping destination in Edmonton. When I enter Tattered Rose I feel the same excitement as I do when vacationing, and have come across the most amazing boutique. You know that feeling when you walk into a shop, love everything, and want to take it all home. I feel like a kid in a candy shop, and always leave with something I love wearing. Most importantly, I leave with something that I will wear over and over again. The Sympli line of clothing at Tattered Rose make up my favorite basics. Mixing a matching everything in this line makes dressing for work or play a breeze. But Tattered Rose is so much more. The owner brings in the most amazing lines of clothing not seen anywhere else in Edmonton. I'm able to combine pieces from the other collections with my Sympli pieces to dress it up or down. I might spend a little more at Tattered Rose, but I love everything I buy, and that means I wear it. As such, I know I have invested wisely by not buying another piece of "throw away" clothing that I rarely wear, or wash and don't want to wear again due to poor quality. These less expensive pieces have worked out to be more expensive given the little wear I got out of them. The owner of Tattered Rose is a professional clothing designer. She will assist you in looking your best, by helping you pick the best styles for your body type, and the most flattering colors for your hair, complexion and eye color. She is also so helpful in ordering in other sizes and colors for you. You really get one-on-one, personal service at Tattered Rose.
