Bluebird is one of my favorite pizzerias in the East Bay! The owner is from New York and you can definitely tell with the quality of the pizzas here. The pepperoni is absolutely delicious; many pizzerias have overly salty pepperoni, but that's not the case here. My favorite is the magherita and I add pepperonis on top. Wow, where have these guys been all my life?! After having tried actual NY pizza as a kid, that really set the bar wayyyy too high for me as a cali native. But eventually I found my certain rotation of pizza spots that would suffice. Until about 2 weeks ago my amazing employee mentioned he went to this spot in San Leandro and it was the best pizza he ever had! Naturally my love for pizza perked my curiosity so I inquired about the location and planned a trip. First of all, let me start with the salad...Omg- the lettuce is very fresh, and they put walnuts with chunks of feta inside, great start! But what really sets it apart is there dressing! Made from scratch that is by far THE BEST balsamic dressing I've ever had (and I consider myself a salad connoisseur. The only thing I feel was missing was some lemon to drizzle on top (so I brought a half of lemon in a ziplock bag the next time I went, and ya that brings the rating to a 10/10). Salt pepper lemon and their dressing is super fire. Ok the pizza, if you know NY pizza, it's soft, amazing taste ofcourse and not burnt or overcooked. They hit the nail on the head every single time. I catch my self saying ima save half for later or tomorrow but my hand keeps grabbing more, and next thing you know my entire large pizza is killed in one sitting. The restaurant itself is quite small with only a handful of tables, which makes it very homey/cozy/family establishment like. Wait times can get long during peak hours but absolutely 1000000% worth it, no doubt about that. They got like 5-6 people bustin ass behind the counter, non stop. This my new go to spot, even if it's 30-35 min away from home during traffic hours, and even though the wait can be somewhat long at times non of that outweights the feeling of being fed some of the most delicious pizza you will find in the bay area. Also, a must try is there red peppers! I always forget the name of them, but it isn't red peppers like you get at the grocery store, they are little red chilli peppers? Like barely spicy but amazing flavor. Wish I could remember the name off the top of my head. Just ask them for their special peppers and they'll ask red peppers or "xxxxxxx" it's the second option. read more

Love to get pizza from this place. I recently found them and unfortunately have to move but their pizza is the best. I eat it and don't feel bad eating it and the crust and the dough is the best part! If I get a chance I would try every flavor they have on the menu. Their cannoli is good too. Quality/Quantity - Got a half and half large pizza. Half Nelson and Half Double Combo. Half Nelson - Ricotta Sauce, Fresh & Aged Mozzarella, Ricotta Dollops; Chicken, Onion, Spinach. My daughter's preference of the two. Half Double Combo - Combo and NY combined. So meaty and good. A Little greasy though, but what do you expect from all that meat and all those sausages. My wife and I preferred this one. Beautiful freshly made pizza. Love the thin crispy crust. Baked well. Fresh ingredients, etc. No beers on tap, no happy hour, etc. Decent selection of beers and reasonably priced. I actually chose NOT to drink today, even though I had/have a VERY long day. Atmosphere - Very small local pizzeria. Street parking, free 2 hours. Approximately 4-5 tables/booths; see pictures. Only open for dinner, 5 days a week. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays; see picture of business hours. One clean unisex restroom. Service - 5 stars. Counter service. The cashier, greeter, and server (all the same person) was inviting, professional, and proactive. When we got here at 6pm, there were no tables available. So we squeezed into a two person tiny table. When a booth finally opened up, she invited us to sit there as it was obviously more comfortable. She quickly cleaned the table and area. Loyalty program, see punch card. Price - $38 + generous tip. I found this place by chance. I was a little skeptical walking in but the pizza was delicious. Crunchy crust and toppings were on point. The vibe inside was cool nothing crazy or special. The pizza speaks for itself. Service was on point, very helpful and super friendly. I got a salad and 12" pie and a Mexican coke. Sat in the corner and read the yelp reviews. I'm not the biggest pizza lover, but I do like to have that type of comfort food every so often. My issue is that a lot of places don't offer vegan options because I don't eat cheese or dairy, so a lot of the times, I just don't have pizza. I've heard about Bluebird from a few friends, and I'm surprised to see that they actually have some vegan-friendly pizza, so I decided to give it a try one Friday night. Like their website said, I made sure to order ahead of time, before they open, since it may not be available during peak hours. For myself, I ordered the 12" 'Glass of Heart', and my partner ordered a 16" Combo/Margarita pizza for himself. My pick up time was around 5PM, and when I got there, my order was ready to go. Their restaurant is quite small - just a few booth and a few small tables. At the time that I went, half the tables were taken, but then again, maybe their turnaround time is fairly quick. Either way, I'm glad I opted for pickup this time. Although my interactions with their employees was limited, they're quite friendly and regulars seem to love them! It's a good sign when locals love them. My 'Glass of Heart' pizza came with mushrooms, artichokes, peppadew, and spinach - 6 slices for 12". One thing I like about them is that they just don't use cheese in their vegan pizza. They just make the vegan pizzas extra saucy. There's very few vegan cheese that I like because a lot of the vegan cheese just mix in a lot of other odd ingredients into it to make it taste or feel the way cheese does. Theirs is just a good ole pizza with normal ingredients - I like it. Their crust is not flimsy, a little dense, and has a bite to it. Their tomato sauce is great. A little tangy and sweet. They add a fair amount of toppings to it. As for my partner, he thought his Margarita was a little bare, but other than that, his half Combo, half Margarita really hit the spot for him as well! He particularly liked the tomato sauce on his pizzas. We also noted that the price for each size is pretty equal LOL. It never actually crossed my mind to do this calculation until my partner brought it up, but their prices for the 12" and 16" is fairly (and insignificantly) close! Good on them! Would we be coming back? Definitely! I'm looking forward to trying their vegan combo next time. read more

We have tried most pizzas here and they are all so delicious. Love the owner and how she is in there working along side her peoples. Almost 30 years ago we moved from jersey. We have found ok pies, nothing to write home about. Until last night, our friend took us to blue bird omg. From the minute we saw Birch beer on the menu the memories of home (jersey) came piping up. And when the pies arrived the smells took us back to Festa pizza(atlantic city) & bruno's (buna). Bluebird is a San Leandro staple and its by far one of the consistently best pizza shops across the entire Bay Area. The bread is remarkably good and the toppings are fresh. You do not feel overwhelmed and the combinations are perfectly portioned. The service is efficient and friendly. Its has a neighborhood ambiance that just resonates with alot of its consistent patrons with a good family friendly vibe. This is my life hack to get a delicious slice when I most need it. We are new to the area and so far have had pizza from Bluebirds twice. First time my husband went and picked it up, the second we ate in. This is some of the best pizza we have ever had and my husband is from Philly. I've had pizza in NYC and this was better. Few tables inside but worth eating in, they have an unusual selection of beers and non alcoholic drinks. If you have never had Bluebirds, you have to eat there. read more

I discovered this little gem of a pizzeria when I lived in Hayward a few years ago. Now that I'm back here across the bay, I all too often DREAM of their custom cornmeal crust, sheetpan "Grandma Pizza" . . . and I'm literally salivating as I write this because I'm craving it right now. I have eaten at this place a handful of times with my sister and brother in law in the past and I remember it being very delicious. My partner has been wanting to try this place out since the start of this year and we finally tried it. As soon as they opened, we called and ordered a half white and half pepperoni pizza. We were a little surprised to hear the pizzas would be done in 45 minutes but at the same time, I knew this place is very bustling and so we picked up our pizza and went straight home. We quickly ate almost the whole pizza box and it was delicious. The flavor and aroma were so fresh and tasty, but we were disappointed that the pizza was quite small. As a Bay Area native, I highly recommend this pizza place to anyone that loves Sicilian or East Coast style Pizza. This is comparable to Pasquale's pizzeria in San Francisco on Irving. Grandma's pizza is baked in a pan (square shaped) with tomato sauce, aged and fresh mozzarella, ricotta,and basil. The woman working the kitchen may very well be hard of hearing, because she was holding a conversation all evening at a level of volume that made it impossible to hear each other at our table. I enjoy anything from Round Table to Tony's Pizza and a lot in-between. I've even eaten at a few of the acclimated spots in Italy/Naples. Nothing I've had at any of those places approaches what you get at Bluebird. It's simply the best pizza ever created in every single way. I drove from Hayward to San Leandro over 15 minutes just to get this pizza....it was well worth it! The dough is nice and light, and the tomato sauce has a bite that you can only get from quality Italian tomatoes. The white pizza with spinach is one of the best I've had in the Bay Area.
