The Franklin restaurant gets a lot of love from the area and Yelp reviews especially regarding…read moretheir famous fries that they run out of during dinner service. We stopped in to try them as we love oysters, the cocktails looked good online, and who doesn't want to try famous fries! Overall, this was a miss for me on our trip to Portsmouth. Service was nice and food came out quickly but nothing blew us away. The cocktails were okay. I didn't love the rum cocktail I got, it had a tangy after feel that kept me drinking my water after each sip. Not a great thing. Not every cocktail is a win and I kept an open mindset for our food. The fries- they are good, very good in fact. I preface this by saying I am not a fry person so they got high marks as far as how nicely fried they were, perfectly salted, and soft inside. The malt aioli was also great! We tried two of each of the three kinds of grilled oysters they had. I only liked one- it was a pesto one. The other two were not good. The bacon maple one had too much bacon and too much maple syrup making the oyster not really present. The corn relish one- just not good. Corn was a little hard and chewy and again took away from the star- the oyster. I wish we had gotten more of the pesto one which had a small amount of sauce and allowed the oyster to shine. Our dozen raw oysters were just okay as well. Quite a few had shell bits and grit still in them so not cleaned well and just overall okay. For a place that is known for oysters we left not impressed. Sorry Franklin, have to be honest in my review.

Wonderful little lunch stop!…read more It was full of locals and regulars and on a wait for lunch. At that moment I knew I had picked a good spot! We chilled with the folks up front for a good bit before getting a table. It seemed we were the only people that had not been here 30-40 times before. Most people didn't even want menus and the sweet server ladies just brought them food without conversation at all. It's kind of old school feeling inside. It's an open kitchen and you can see all of the action. Inside is all wooden and rustic. It reminds me of my grandmas house in Camden TN. Not sure why. It's just really comfortable in here to me. The tile and fireplaces make super cozy. This place has some of the best chili that I have had in a long time. I dig the fact they give tortilla shops automatically with the chili. Win!! Thick and meaty and oh so filled with spice and love!! Cheese on top was a nice touch too. Really liked it! My French dip was fucking killer!! So damn big too! I could only eat half of it because of the the fire ass chili I had already eaten. French fries were battered type. Nothing wrong with that!! I drove around with this sandwich for two days of travel and ate it on the road later. Stupendous French dip!! C had an open faced roast beef sandwich. FIRE!! The green beans were so pretty and fresh too. She could barely get 1/3 down, lol. It was a ton of food. Economical! Hometown feel! Good people working and eating here! I love it!! I'm not even sure I could find the place again. I sure am glad I did the first time! '26 -39

I had a wonderful haddock dish in sauce with a vegetable melange that I couldn't finish it was so good but huge. The location reminds me of an old New England club, great atmosphere. The beer selection was expansive, and best of all included a large selection of local and New England brews. Heck, we have about the best brews in the country, might as well show them off. Service was also superb. The attendants at the lunch knew their business, their ettiquette, and their offerings. I walked around the spacious and well curated historic building taking it all in. Next time we'll be here for their brunch....

We both started with a cup of the Stracliatella soup which was amazing. Then for our main course, I had the chicken Marsala and my wife had the Cobb salad. Both very good. My friends had the salmon, mussels and calamari, and a steak tip salad-everyone loved their meals. For dessert we shared crème brûlée warm donut dessert with ice cream and whipped cream, which were amazing. Our server, Naomi, was the best-attentive, friendly, and sweet, always making sure we had everything we needed for a great dining experience. The restaurant was packed on a Tuesday night, which says a lot about how good it is. The two small cons: when I made the reservation on March 7, I included a note asking for a surprise birthday dessert for my friend Anita after the meal (I had planned to order the Swiss Chalet Cake), but it never arrived. Luckily we ordered the crème brûlée donut to share, which was fantastic anyway. I just wish reservation comments were reviewed so special requests like that can be carried out. Additionally, it was also a bit loud for a small restaurant, especially on a Tuesday night. Overall, everything was perfectly cooked and we'll definitely be going back again soon.

It feels like Maine with the wood logs as the decor and trees. We sat in the back room which almost gives a Maine camp porch vibe. There are two different Prix fix a three and a four. My husband got the three but I went with the four because I had heard some great things with the glazed carrots, I thought we could share them. Everything was wonderful but just too much food for me. I started with the tuna sashimi which was superb and my husband had the pork belly. I had the glazed carrots and they brought my husband glazed cauliflower on the house, loved both. My husband had the steak and I had the halibut and they both were delicious. My fish came with baby potatoes, I'm not a fan of those. Finally my husband had their famous glazed donuts, the plate was licked clean and I had the chocolate cake. I am gf so I could not partake in some of his items but he said they were delicious and Earth did a fantastic job ensuring my allergy safety. Can't wait to return.

He completely disregarded the other guest and only focused on my drink order, which felt disrespectful. After taking my order and walking awaynot once but twice, when he returned I had to ask, "Are you not going to take her drink order?" The tuna sashimi was great and the carrots were good as well. However, something about the halibut tasted off. I work with fish daily, and this personally was not it. I had one bite and could not continue eating it. The server boxed up the halibut for me, but then tossed a to-go container onto the table for us to box our own dessert, which felt inconsistent with the level of service. The bartender was wearing an H&H raincoat and appeared to be drinking on the job, while other female staff members were scrolling on their phones. Overall, not a great first impression. The ambiance itself was nice, but when you make an 8:30 PM reservation and receive a text at 7:30 PM saying your table is ready, it feels a bit off-putting. I had asked beforehand if anything earlier was available and was told no, so I intentionally booked later for an evening experience. Then upon arrival, the restaurant was fairly empty. Within the first few minutes of us being there, the kitchen doors were closed and cleaning was happening all around us. It created an unpleasant atmosphere for what was supposed to be a social evening out and a little hoorah celebration, and nothing was acknowledged by staff. It was clear that reservation notes or comments in chat of reservation were not reviewed. Overall, not thrilled with the experience. Been there, done that -- one visit was enough for me/us unless that 49-year-old male server Charlie learns how to properly serve guests and the kitchen team start to season the food a bit better. Would have been nice if Charlie checked in with us more like he did the other tables hence the eaves dropping to know more about him and the place. 4/10 experience, will not be back which is a bummer.
