We were off to a little bit of a bumpy start. My party of 7 scoped out the menu on their website beforehand so I arrived ready to place our order (they don't offer online ordering). When I arrived, the cashier frowned and said their website was terribly outdated and that we'd have to order from the in-store menu. Annoying but we made it work. That bit aside, they had our order ready in about half an hour. Everything was accurate. With your sandwich or wrap, you get a side of: chips, pickle, potato salad or coleslaw. The coleslaw left much to be desired; it was fresh but tasted like cabbage with oil and poppyseeds on it. My group appreciated the freshness of the food and that all the sandwiches/wraps were sizable. Side note- they had a full coffee menu and breakfast items in addition to lunch. Got 3 items "to go" for our drive across Trail Ridge Road. Service was fast and pleasant. Food packaged well. Everything was sooooooooo delicious! This place is okay for someone who is driving by and wants to get something to eat. Price a bit on the high end for the food not being anything special. I got the Benedict wrap which did not tasted good, my husband got a meat bagel that didn't have a lot of meat, and the donut he got was hard and tasted like an old donuts. We loved our breakfast!! The croissants are showstoppers, for savory breakfast items I would recommend first the European croissant and then the Zeus wrap. Both are delicious. For baked goods, we had the hazelnut croissant which was 10/10. We also tried the blueberry peach cake, which was very good but I don't know if I'd get it again. Ordered a salmon breakfast, and it was missing the Hollandaise sauce. I simply asked to add it per the menu description and both the cashier and the cook didn't even know the recipe. The cook showed up 20 mins later when we finished the meal, and asked to bring it back so that he can add the sauce. Scrambled egg with a bit of salmon and a toast was $17. There are a variety of fresh baked pastries to choose from. My friends and I picked the strawberry and cream croissant, plain croissant, chocolate croissant, and some crumble cakes. There are also sandwiches, bagels, and breakfast items available. Great experience ordering for a group of 6 which could have been tricky but the lady working was patient, organized, and friendly as my friends and I debated on what to order. She really made us feel right at home. I really like that this bakery has a used book library, indoor lounge area, as well as outdoor tables and chairs. I had a really nice lunch here with a friend. There is indoor and outdoor seating and we were able to eat looking at the lake. This is the kind of place where you walk up, order and pay, and get buzzed when your food is ready. I had the best lemon scone. All the pastries there actually looked amazing. It was hard to choose. You could tell everything was fresh baked. We tried the salmon wrap and it was pretty good! A bit pricey ($30 for the wrap, coffee, and scone) but on par for the location and compared to other places in the area. read more

Bakery with a nice view outside of Grand Lake. I like the small town feel and charm of this cafe. They have a nice spread of breakfast and lunch options to choose from. I came here because the staff at Fat Cat was extremely rude. I ordered the ham cheese and egg bagel sandwich on a tomato asiago bagel and my boyfriend ordered the sausage egg and cheese bagel on a garlic asiago bagel. The bagels looked homemade. We also ordered chai latte and a Blondie. The Blondie was probably the best thing there. The sandwiches were alright, they weren't the bagel sandwiches of my dreams or anything. I wish the cheese was more melted. The ham was also super dry. I then ordered an iced Lipton black tea for the road. It was $2.70 and I gave the girl a 20. She shorted me $5 in change. Blue Water Bakery has a-okay breakfast food in a slim pickings area. I visited Grand Lake for a weekend and after a long walk, was looking for some quick and easy brunch food. This place fit the bill, and the line out the door was a good sign from the start. The menu is long with an assortment of sandwiches, egg dishes, and savory breakfast items, and gluten free options are even listed on their regular menu. Portions were large, and my Vaquero scramble was decent, with sour cream, jalapeño, salsa, and cheese. The hashbrowns on the side were a little soggy, the eggs were a little watery, and some ingredients listed on the menu were missing or not fresh as stated (no cilantro, and the jalapeños were the slimy canned kind). But overall, it did the job! And the wait time was really reasonable. Will I be rushing back? Not really. But it's a small town, and if you're looking for breakfast food, Blue Water Bakery serves it with enough options to keep everyone happy. NOTE: Amidst COVID, it was also really encouraging to see that this place is taking things seriously (despite the rest of the town's lack of seriousness). Cute little bakery down a side street near the Grand Lake Marina off the main strip. They have scones, bagels, muffins, coffee cake, cookies, etc in the glass counter by the register. They have breakfast and lunch options as well. Breakfast is only served till 11:30am and lunch ends at 3pm. Can't quite give this place five stars because they wouldn't let us order lunch (it was 2:20pm). All the sandwiches and things on the menu were "quick cook" items and we didn't understand why they were closing down so early. The lady up front wasn't the friendliest either. My husband and I ended up getting a couple bagels, one asiago garlic and a spinach Swiss cheese one. Both were delicious. Really fresh tasty homemade dough. And they make it with organic bread flour (see the sign in one of the pics I took). Aside from us not being able to experience their lunch, this bakery is in a great location, has a cool inside and has solid bagels. read more

We decided to give this place a try, only after Fat Cat and The Wake were both closed for the season as of today (lucky us right). We then had to settle for our last option for breakfast, which brought us to Blue Water. Although, based off the reviews, it seems people have had good experiences here - we did not. To start, the staff came off as being a bit rude. I had ordered the French toast special ('special', meaning meal, as they had it advertised). The young lady taking the order laughed and replied "Special? What do you mean? You want special French toast?". I then had to continue to explain that it was advertised as a special because it came with a side and I didn't want an order of French toast by itself. She laughed again and then proceeded to take my girlfriend's order. Well apparently she had planned on asking for her meal the same way, but decided to not include the word special after hearing the ladies response to my attempt. The lady, again, laughed, then replied "Just scrambled eggs, that's it?", which then made my girlfriend have to explain that she wanted the special as well, which included sides. Although it was no big deal and we laughed about it afterwards, we still felt either the lady didn't know how to take orders, or was simply rude for no reason. We also didn't enjoy that it was essentially a take-out/fast-food cafe. We were really hoping to sit down in a restaurant and get table service somewhere with nice people during our stay. You know, that small town feel. We ended up getting just about the opposite. As far as the food goes, the French toast was pretty mediocre. The lady actually put the order in as cinnamon swirl French toast, because apparently she still didn't understand what the word 'special', from their own menu, meant. The silverware was thin faux wood, which made it very difficult to eat anything that required cutting of any sort. To top it all off, when we were leaving (around 11am), one of the workers came and hung a 'closed for the day' sign on the door - right below the other sign, which exclaimed 'Open Daily 7am-5pm'. There were several groups of people walking up to the door who noticed they had closed and seemed quite upset about it after checking the hours and making the drive over from wherever they were staying. Keep in mind, this review is coming from the opinion someone who is not very picky and is typically very laid back and understanding. This review doesn't display that, and there are reasons why. Won't be going back - even if it is a last resort again. We did leave with full stomachs, though. read more

I'm European, and the pastries are pretty authentic and home-made. The coffee was OK. So was the "iced" tea, but it only had two cubes of ice. I do suspect that was because they brewed the tea fresh, and then the ice cubes melted very quickly. We had bagel sandwiches, the bagels were home made. The eggs are real and scrambled. Not the squishy egg that you would expect from a fast food restaurant. We stayed around the corner from the bakery for 3 days, so we frequented the bakery a few times. Nice location. It was the prefect breakfast paired with an earl grey tea to hit the road on our road trip through Colorado. Found this place right after driving out of RMNP. It's a small restaurant by the lake for a quick sandwich or soup. We ordered two sandwiches- grilled veggie hot sandwich and veggie brie... felt like the hot sandwich was not even near being 'warm'. It tasted good but there weren't enough vegetables. I also ordered a cup of vegetarian chili which I must admit was really good. They have outdoor seating as well and it's easy to find parking outside the restaurant. Nicely decorated place with cheap prices for the drinks and baked goods. Cinnamon roll wasn't bad. Unfortunately the worst coffee I've ever had - even fast food places have better coffee. All I had was a brewed coffee with soy milk. It had no taste at all and as my friend said "tastes like the cardboard cup." My friend also got a breakfast bagel which was $9 (on the pricey side) and while the filling was fine the bagel itself was subpar. Love this little bakery at Grand Lake! My husband and I visited on our last day in town before driving back into Denver and only wish we had stopped by sooner. The ambience is casual - you go up to a counter to order your food and have the choice to eat your meal inside our outside (which by the way, has a perfect view of the lake). We had to order our breakfast to-go, and they quickly and kindly accommodated our needs. We both ordered the ham and swiss croissant, and a black coffee and cappuccino. The croissant was delectable and still maintained a good presentation although it was placed inside a to-go container. We honestly could have shared one croissant as the portion was quite large, but if you're planning on a hike, this is a great base for your adventure ahead! Alternatively, they have a great selection of homemade baked goods such as scones and muffins, or if your appetite is even LARGER, opt for their breakfast burritos and wraps. To top it all off, the staff is very friendly, the service was quick, the quality of food was fresh, and the prices were affordable. Usually I check reviews before I go to a restaurant but since it was the only bakery in town and it was 7:30 in the morning I skipped it. It was a busy little place with lots of people in line, which was not a problem. When I finally found my way to The front of the line I was greeted from a lovely counter person. I ordered a mixed fruit coffee cake and a blueberry muffin. I was very excited when I return to our hotel to surprise my husband. As I opened the package the bakery items did not feel fresh. The experience got worse as we proceeded to eat them. This is really quite disgraceful to be called the bakery and to charge what they charged, not cheap! It seems really sad that the only bakery in town and cannot figure out that fresh baked goods are really important. PS - the only reason for the two stars, and not one, is the delightful young woman at the counter. read more

Interesting experience. I felt an odd presence the moment I walked in, as if the employees thought lower of my friends and I for some reason. Equally, my friend ordered a gluten free meal. This friend then asks the cashier which items were gluten free, which she then states she has no idea... When my friend begins to digest the menu herself and states "Well, there seems to be only egg, potato, and greens," the worker then snaps at my friend and states she "guesses" its gluten free. You cannot "Guess" as some suffer legitimate medical conditions that prohibit the intake of gluten. When she went to pick said meal up, there were two large slabs of bread on her plate. Unfortunately, the employees here have not heard of cross contamination and sarcastically smirked at her as she said that, and simply removed the bread instead of making an entirely new dish. They point to the receipt that states "no toast" (as requested upon payment) and explain they did not toast the bread....!?!? (a misunderstanding on their part) when that really suggests to add no toast at all... because this is a gluten free meal.... Considering these meals were upwards of 15 dollars, we left dissatisfied with the attitude of your workers and the disregard for cross contamination. My friend has a high sensitively to gluten, meaning we cook all meals separate from hers to avoid cross contamination in general... If you claim to sell gluten free breakfast up until 11am, your employees should understand the full magnitude of this rule, as well as implications to avoid instances like this. Your employees should also be fully educated on the meals that are and are not gluten-free. read more

I was pretty disappointed with this experience. I stopped here for brunch on my last day in Grand Lake and based on the long line out the door and abundance of locals, I figured it would be a pretty good place. First of all, the line moves extremely slow. It is a lunch counter sort of deal where you stand in line, order, and then find a seat and you collect your food when they call your number. Once I was able to get into the restaurant - still in line - to read to the menu, it did not say anywhere that lunch and breakfast were served at specific times. It was 10:30 am and for a place that is only opened a short amount of time, I was set on ordering lunch. Once I got to the counter, I ordered my lunch food and all was fine. Finding an indoor seat was a struggle, there are only about 4 tables inside the rest is outdoor seating. I sit down inside and someone from the kitchen called my number about 5 minutes later. I went to the counter expecting my food to be ready, but I was instead informed that they were not serving lunch and that I needed to order breakfast food since they could not make my order. I don't know why the person at register failed to explain to me that I couldn't even receive what I wanted! Had I been told that they were only serving breakfast then, I would not have been nearly as annoyed. I ordered a waffle instead of the turkey and brie sandwich and was given a pastry since I could not be reimbursed for the difference since I paid with a card. The breakfast was okay and the strawberry and cream danish was delicious, but it was such a clustered mess to even get my food. The restaurant is like a poorly set up Panera Bread since you order, sit, gather your own utensils and napkins, and clean up your own table. The restaurant should clearly indicate lunch and breakfast hours on the menu and have more communication. I would return for the baked good and coffee, but I would absolutely not order food here again. read more

They tell you you have several options for the bread for the sandwiches however if you want it on the croissant you need to know they WILL be charging you more.
