We reserved a table inside, we got seated in the "tent". It was beyond hot. I asked to be seated inside, the hostess told us that's all we have (even though I made a reservation), there was 6 empty tables inside....but still got told that's all they have. We had to ask for water twice, the steak was over cooked, the lobster was tough and chewy. Swatting at flies and mosquitoes the entire dinner while sweating our butts off. Spent $400 on sub par food and left drenched in sweat with mosquito bites....will never go back and definitely don't recommend. read more

Took my wife out on a Friday night. First off, the restaurant was not even half full on a friday night, that is red flag number one, and should have known somwthing was up. We ordered two margaritas, and for $15 a drink it should be pretty good, and it was overly sweet and could not even taste the tequila, and possibly the worst margarita I have ever had. Then the appetizers came. The goat cheese wontons were okay, not the most flavorful, just okay. Then the thai calamari, now this was just terrible. The calamari were cold number one, and also they were not cripsy because they were cold and they were so chewy and over cooked and we could not even eat it, it was allost inedible. Then the entrees come, and my wife got the stuffed lobster tail over risotto, and the crab was okay that was stuffed on top, however the lobster was so overcooked it was so rubbery and fishy-tasting, and for $40, it was just ridicuolous that they can not cool it properly. The risotto on that dish was okay. I got the seafood risotto, and the fish was cooked well, I will say that, however the risotto was just so salty, it was not good, and there were some cracked clam shells that were so small in the risotto, that I almost cracked my tooth on a couple of them. We definitely did not get dessert after that mess of a meal. The service also was not good. No waitress was to be found for a good ampunt of tome and we wanted some water to wash down the disgusting saltiness of the risotto. I would never ever go back even if you paid me to go there, that is how bad this place was. I do not know how this place is still in business. I came for a private bridal shower. First impressions - the parking lot is very small. There is only one bathroom (one toilet and sink) for women and one bathroom for men. The restaurant is on the small side but the views are beautiful. The service was great and the staff was very friendly. The food was amazing. Appetizers consisted of steak kabobs, calamari, goat cheese stuffed wantons, and stuff mushrooms. The calamari were my absolute favorite. They were delicate and flavorful. The mushroom were substantial. The wantons were creamy and crunchy. The kabobs were wonderfully seasoned but the meat was tough. My entree was a steak medallion with spinach mash potatoes. The mash potatoes were creamy. The steak was cooked to my liking. The desserts were Nutella stuffed wontons and rice pudding. The rice pudding did not look appetizing but looks can be deceiving! The rice pudding was delicious. It was not overly sweet, it was not mushy. I have a lot of experience with rice pudding and that was A1 stuff. This is one of my favorite neighborhood restaurants! It is in a quieter part of Staten Island, but a bit upscale so dinner feels special. It is right on the water and you can see all the boats go by. On a nice day it is so nice to sit outside and have a glass of wine with some excellent food! My favorites are the goat cheese and nutella wontons (2 different types of wontons, not in the same one!) They are so amazing and are great if you want to share some small plates. The charcuterie and cheese plate is also really great; it's a large portion! For dinner, I always get the salmon because it's just that good. It has a teriyaki glaze and it's served with a fruit and veggie salad. It's a lighter dinner, but definitely delivers on flavor. The staff is really friendly which just adds to the experience. I love coming here, whether a special dinner or just some drinks and bites with friends. We were a large group of 6 adults and 6 kids. The food was decent, nothing to write home about, no dish has stood out to wow anyone. The service was off. It started off well with our waiter introducing himself, but then he was hard to get a hold off and the bus boys were clueless. Took 5 attempts to get them to bring plain water. The worst part though, came at the end. Besides waiting for our check for almost an hour, they have managed to lose my friend's credit card (she was paying for everything and then we just split it). The card was nowhere to be found and she ended up spending some of her evening calling the bank, going over transactions and securing a new card. Went to Blue for lunch, ordered the 'scallop purse' appetizer and the Clams and Spaghetti. The 'scallop purse' came and for $14 there were only 2 on the plate. Afterwards the Clams and Spaghetti came. When the waitress placed it on the table I said, "where's the spaghetti?". She laughed and said it's hidden under the Clams. There were 12 Clams in the plate which were delicious, but the most inexpensive item, the pasta, wasn't enough to fill me up. There was maybe five or six fork fulls of spaghetti. First she calls to make a reservation (6pm), once the big day comes they said "they had the name and miner written down but on time". So we then had to eat at a later time (9:30pm). Blue is always wonderful, especially in the summer when you can outside. The atmosphere is terrific. This will be the fifth time dining at Blue. I've only eaten dinner here once a few years ago. I've been twice for drinks and apps at the bar and twice for lunch. Sitting outside is relaxing, there's background music, shade, good service, and good food. Came to this location for a quick lunch. We were immediately greeted upon arrival and seated right away. The location was pretty quiet, this could be because it was lunch time or because we had torrential downpours at the time of our arrival. We were constantly checked upon and the servers were very kind and friendly. We ordered off the lunch menu which was very reasonably priced considering the location is a bit fancier. It is now 90 minutes after it was scheduled to be here and 45 minutes after I called and was told it would be here in 15 minutes. Usually good food, not prepared to deliver.Ruined our anniversary Last night we posted a problem with the delivery of a meal From Bleu. I want to now post first,that the meal was delicious as always and of the same quality we have always experienced there. Most importantly, is that the management has reached out to us and has taken every possible action to first, apologize for the delivery issue, and even has gone so far as to want to reimburse us for the meal and offer another meal on the house. Besides the dinning room being way too loud it was a perfect date spot. We opted to sit outside where it was a bit chilly in early October but bearable. The view was nice, the servers impeccable, and the food . Let's get to the very best part, first off the food is amazing, so fresh tasting. We had pomegranate martinis that didn't taste like syrup and sugar it actually tasted like a real drink and not some cheap knockoff. We had grilled octopus and I've never just had a grilled tentacle before but it was so yummy It's actually become a fave for me. The strawberry crab salad was great everything we ordered seemed so fresh and tasted pure. You know food is good when you don't need to add salt and there was no need for that anywhere on our plates. This will become a regular spot for us once the weather get nicer cause the dining room is just too small and the sound amplifies making it feel like you're in a cafeteria. Over the years I have been in blue many times and always liked their food. Spacious seating , location is some of the pluses. Well my husband and I decided to go out on a Wednesday night date. We decided to go to Blue. We were seated immediately. When we were presented the menu we noticed the menu had changed and were very limited. For appetizers we ordered clams which I thought were going to be sauteed in a broth or sauce but when they reached our table they were essentially baked clams...very disappointed. We also ordered a beetsalad with goat cheese. Now I would expect some greens on the plate but instead it was sliced beets with some basil and a blob of goat cheese in the middle. Now you know how pungent the goat cheese is and I feel it should be used sparingly. For my entree I ordered a lamb burger. Which was very gamey. Lamb should be well seasoned with garlic ,black pepper, thyme. Red wine and worchester sauce. All n all a very disappointing menu. On the bright side the waiter was fantastic!We use to come here regularly but sadly we need to move on. read more

It is small and cosy, it's upscale and beautifully designed and of course with food that is worth raving about. Water waves hit old Staten Island railroad tracks just feet from your table, glittering lights reflecting in the canal and huge windows to enjoy it all. Ok, enough about the ambiance, I have to get to food! Ahh, the delicious food... Mushroom Avocado Carpaccio, while name is misleading (the only thinly sliced raw thing in it is avocado) is to die for. It took me back to childhood and my grandpa's wonderful fried mushroom dishes. I am planning a surprise birthday for my mom and Blue Restaurant accepted a deposit to have a party at the venue over 4 weeks ago. With less than a week to go before the event, the manager is claiming that they are not able to accommodate the time that was agreed upon. Which for a surprise party, is a big deal. After speaking with the "manager," I am told that the restaurant NEVER does evening events and that it is posted online. I came here again last night with my girlfriend (the same girlfriend :D) to celebrate my birthday. The reservation was at 10:00 PM, which I believe is last seating, I may be wrong. We arrived about 10 minutes late, but the staff did not seem to mind at all. We were cordially seated at a wide table by the window. I'd be remiss if I failed to mention their excellent complementary pita bread this time around. I recall that I enjoyed it immensely the first time we were here, and I'm surprised I foolishly neglected to mention how great it was then. After having it again last night, I knew the pita bread simply could not go unmentioned in a follow-up review. Our server brought over a warm plate of oven baked pita bread with olive oil to dip it in. The dip consists of olive oil, olives and yellow raisins. I kid you not, this is one of the best bread/olive oil complementary servings any restaurant has to offer, and best of all, it's free! Our server also offered to bring us more pita bread, but we declined, to save our appetite for our dinner. I ordered their coconut mojito because I love coconuts and mojitos, so it was a no brainer there. I was, however, a tad disappointed with the drink because it tasted like a regular mojito, but I soon was over this minor letdown. Conveniently, we ordered their prefix menu because it was on their Tuesday menu. For the appetizer, we both elected to order their pumpkin soup. It came with a swab of cream cheese in the center of the bowl. Albeit a bit unusual, the presentation was flawless, and I thought the cheese overall complemented the soup nicely. We also ordered a separate appetizer of their mussels, which came in a decent number. The broth for this dish was the best broth to accompany mussels that I've ever had, or maybe I was just hungry, but I truly believe it was the former. Let's just say you must order this appetizer if you come here, in addition to ordering their grilled octopus appetizer. For our main entree, I ordered their beef medallion, which was the same dish I ordered the last time, and this dish never fails to impress. I also sampled my girlfriend's Parmesan chicken which was equally a worthy contender. Being the fast eater that I am, I finished my entree well before my girlfriend. I then waited for her to finish her entree. Shortly thereafter, I began to see the other two remaining tables make preparations to leave. Feeling for the staff, I offered to close out the check in advance given we already knew our deserts would be included, and it would ease the burden of having to stay late. The staff politely declined to close out the tab mid-dinner and told us to take our time. This is the type of service you should expect to get here. For our desert, I ordered the carrot cake, and my girlfriend ordered vanilla ice cream. I asked our waiter if they could combine the two, and he politely told me not to worry, and that they would take care of the arrangements -- I should have known what to expect next by that response. A minute or two later, I was startled by a fanfare, as our waiters accompanied by a third waiter crept up from behind me and began singing happy birthday to me. I was quite embarrassed by it, but it was also nice to be sung to, but what's more surprising is that they even memorized my name and included it in the song! Now that's service. Husband and I came to Blue on a lovely day to celebrate our anniversary. The weather was very nice, and the view was gorgeous. Since its a celebration, we plan on splurging a little. We have ordered three appetizers, and two entries. (See pics) The appetizers were very good, seafood taste really fresh. Note that the portion of the food here are definitely consider to be small, so please be aware. One thing I notice was that, the mussels we have ordered, a few of them were not opened (meaning they are not edible). I would appreciate it more, if they can actually not include those in the dish. Since the portion is small, and a few of them were not open, so there were only about 6 mussels that were edible in the dish. In my opinion, if they charge 12 dollars for that, they should do a much better job on that. Moving on to the entree. My husband had the steak, and I have ordered pasta with broccoli rabes and sausage. My husband liked the steak. But when my entree came, right away I notice something was not right. Instead of broccoli rabes, they put broccoli in the dish. I notified the server, and his response was if I want him to go check with the chef. I thought the question was quite strange. First, he should know better what kind of ingredients came in each dishes, second, if it was not the right ingredients, he should be the one to ask the chef, not to wait for the customers to ask him to do so. When he came back, he told me that there is no more broccoli rabes. I am really shock at how this is handle. First if there is any items that has ran out, shouldn't they ask the customers of they still want to dish first? And substituting broccoli rabes with broccoli is just absolutely not acceptable. Since it is our anniversary, we didn't really want to make a big deal and ruin out day. We would expect some sort of complimentry for the mistake they have made, but unfortunately, there was non. On our way out, the servers didn't even acknowledged the mistake, and didn't even say thank you to us. We were fairly disappointed with our experience, I hope that the management would read my comment, and improve on this. Otherwise, I cannot see that I will come all the way to the other side of the island to here. The competition is really big on Staten Island, and I believe that having a good customer service is so important to keep their customers. read more

Amazing food and service I highly recommend this place. The steak and seafood there is amazing

We've been to Blue a few times now and it NEVER disappoints. Tonight was another wonderful meal. We didn't have reservations on a Saturday night and didn't get there until about 8:10. Even though the place was jammed we only waited about 10 minutes for our table. The service was friendly and prompt. But the highlight of the night was the food. My wife ordered the salmon from the regular menu...it was hard for her to go with something different as she has had it before and loved it. Tonight was no different. I had a taste (or two) and it is a great dish. I ordered an item on the specials list, duck breast with roasted potatoes. That may not sound like much, or anything special, but WOW! The duck was done to perfection. The potatoes were tiny little spuds packed with flavor because of the sauce served on the dish. Just a wonderful plate. For dessert we split the cheesecake with a port wine reduction sauce. Are you like me and thinking "port wine and cheesecake?" Well, it may have been one of the best desserts we've ever had out. All so very fresh and it exploded with flavor. We highly recommend Blue for those of you who like flavor and great service! read more

I hate writing bad reviews unless I've had a terrible experience. In this case I definitely DID NOT have a terrible experience, but I saw a lot of potential semi-squandered so I wanted to actually do a legit constructive critique. First the plusses, the decor and work they've done to the building are incredible. The carved wood ceiling work and old world windows really get you away from Staten Island. The view is awesome too, I really enjoyed it because it was realistic to what's there. Too many complainers about it being "just Jersey", fine, go to Manhattan then. The service was excelllent, read a few posts below that seemed like they were met with poor service, Blue seems to have straightened that out. Our waitress was attentive, friendly, knowledgable and added to the overall experience a lot. Now, for my issues. This concept is all over the place. It's called "Blue" which would indicate sea food....but no. Not really a seafood place. Ok, so it's Mediterranian right? Well, sort of, but there are loads of Asian influenced dishes on the menu. So just what the heck is going on here? The beers on the menu seem to be chosen out of a hat, obscure beers from Asia that don't taste any different then Budweiser and a lack of much Craft presence just doesn't cut it any more. The one craft they had, Circus Boy from Magic Hat, was out of stock. The food itself, nothing really popped off the menu and called to me the way the dishes at Bayou do. That said, I experimented with the Frogs Legs. I've never had them before, so maybe I'm off here. But the taste was sort of like an oceanic chicken. It tasted of salt water like fish but had the consistancy of chicken. Maybe that's normal, but they kind of fell apart nonetheless, were sloppy and didn't taste like much. I ordered the steak, I did ask for a change where it'd be paired with potatoes instead of a veg, but my choice made for a bland plate. Call me crazy, but if I order a steak I shouldn't have to request potatoes and the potatoes should always match the protein. The steak was ok, nothing worth going to what's considered a "high end" restaurant by SI standards for though. The potatoes were very good, a mixed bag of styles of potato roasted well. My wife had a grilled chicken dish that was asian inspired with some sort of rice. I tried a little, the rice was flavorful when first served, but as the dish sat, even 5-10 minutes later, it got watery and bland. The chicken was very average. Also bland. Between the two of us we were very uninspired and as much as we tried not to, when compared to Bayou (same owner), it wasn't even a comparison. We just wanted to re-do the night again at Bayou to be perfectly honest. And that's a shame. The menu needs work, it needs to be more bold and more focused. Right now it feels like a trip around the world collecting some of the more boring flavors one can find. It needs to be more to one or two destinations, handpicking only the best. The beers also need to have some relation to the food served as well. At this point, because of cost vs. flavor balance, I wouldn't return. Like I said, it wasn't terrible, I was really rooting for this place and still do. Hopefully I'll catch wind of menu changes and give it another shot. Until then, I won't be visiting Blue again. read more

Final tried this place. Decor is great as well as the al fresco dining as long as you dont mind the sight of the port across the way. The riviera it is not. Overall faboulous service for a staten island restaurant it was exceptional. No one called me bro or pal or chief when refering to me or my party. Very professional. Now the food. Apps were okay a bit pricy . I dont recomend the antipasto very puny needed double the amount of food. It consisted only of 5 thinly sliced pieces of ham cappy and prosciutto. Flavor was good Bruscceta was ok had good flavor but the crustini was kinda stale. The mains Chicken curry was a bizarre menu selection. But nonetheless very fresh and vibrant. Not your traditional curry so dont give up that indian spot just yet... The awesomeness The lamb shank and risotto was am almost perfect dish. Well seasoned cooked well shredded with a fork. Risotto creamy . Al dente rice, not mush very delectable. ..definitely a return dish! Overall very pleasant experience, I feel that if the retaurant removed some of its out of place and bizarre east and South eastern dishes, and focused only on Med it would be a 5 star in my book. Nice place in a neighborhood dying to become Red Hook/Williamsburgh BK. Hopefully, it will happen quick! Love the waterside atmosphere with the ships passing through. Dining area is fair in size, probably 30 tables or so and a nice outdoor patio. Got reservations within 20 minutes of calling and didn't wait to sit. With that said, I felt like the service was very slow. Seemed like the small dining area was a direct reflection of the small kitchen. Waited quite a while for appetizers, I'd say 20-25 minutes for 3 apps. Wait staff and management were extremely pleasant. Which takes your mind away from the wait...unless you are starving, like we were lol. Fried Calamari was really good, so were the Pancetta Clams and grilled octopus. My entree was the lamb shank, really good although I've always preferred lamb chops. All in all a pretty decent experience. Would go back, hopefully with a quicker ticket time! read more
