I originally got a quote from the garage company whose commercials are on tv all the time. Then I did a quick google search and found their reviews and BBB ratings are horrible! My second quote was from Blue Sky. Their reviews and BBB ratings were GREAT! So they came out and gave me a quote. About $8,000 LESS than the first company!!!!!! (and a bigger garage door opening - 8 foot versus 7 foot). Dave the salesman was great. No pressure at all! It took about 3 weeks to get the permits, then the fun began.... First up was the demo crew. They tore down my old garage in about 2 to 3 hours. Extremely professional and cleaned up after themselves. Less than a week later, the concrete guys came. It took 2 days to frame, then pour the pad and apron for a 22x22 garage. About 3 weeks later the framers came. I think it took them 3 days. Another guy came after them to clean up. Within a week, the garage door and gutter guy came. He was here and gone in the same day. A week after that, the electrician came. Took him 2 days. Overall, every crew was on time and very professional. They were there at 7 am. Worked til noon. Lunch. Then left when finished, or at 5 pm. Finally, the inspector came. He was impressed with the straight lines and how everything was done. read more

With belt instead of chain, it was $550 and included 2 remotes, inside button, outside keypad, and Wi-Fi capability. Showed up on time, friendly, professional, efficient. It's still working great. Our second garage door was having issues. Replacement was scheduled to be installed in 2 days. Ted called before arriving. Ceiling motor, inside button, & outdoor keypad were installed. He also programmed 2 remotes for new garage door and existing garage door. Communication was easy and no mess was left. We had issues connecting to Wi-Fi. Tried troubleshooting with Chamberlain over phone. The next day Ted came back out and troubleshot for an hour and a half. He was very patient and thorough and ensured everything was working and connected. Highly recommend for being quick, clean, friendly, professional, and easy to communicate with. read more

Definitely a five-star company. I hired Blue Sky Builders to build a 2-1/2 car, 1-1/2 story garage with a full staircase. The salesperson, Dave, was very professional and quick to respond to questions. The project manager Bruce was fantastic with scheduling and a prompt (and witty) text communicator. The construction work is solid, even the city inspector noticed that our crews clearly knew what they were doing. He spoke down to me and when I brought up some research I did on concrete psi and slab thickness, he said "Well in my 31 years of doing this, I've never heard of that." I called him out on his negative tone from our conversation and SURPRISE SURPRISE, after a discussion with "management" their demand is too high in the richy rich Western suburbs and they won't serve my area right now. Dave came out to our house and did not sugar coat or exclude any details. He's a little long winded, but due to his attention to detail we felt comfortable and confident with Blue Sky Builders. Dave explained the different steps from demolition to getting the key to our new garage; a realistic time frame was given and the company delivered. They collect a deposit, something like 15 percent up front, and then you get billed after the completion of key steps (demo, concrete, frame, etc...). I am surprised that I am the only one-star review out here given the service issues I've had with Blue Sky. I had a one-car garage demolished and a two-car garage built in late 2013. I was generally happy with their work with me to design, including when details were added and subtracted at the last minute. I also MOSTLY like the finished product. That said, we had one minor issue which Blue Sky seems to have not interest in resolving. I have given them at least two dozen chances to rectify prior to posting, but alas, felt like I am out of options and this might be the only avenue I have to spur them into action. The concrete of my garage was not quite pitched right, resulting in all of the water / ice coming off my vehicles running into the corner. In the winter it freezes, and I have a permanent ice patch there. This also resulted in eroding the dry wall put up in the garage, and within months of being built, some of the dry wall simply fell off. I don't know what the solutions are to fix (pour some additional concrete in the corner? Create a groove that would capture runoff and route to the garage door?), but it would seem that Blue Sky may not be a part of them. To be clear, Blue Sky has not told me they won't help--they'd have to call me back first to say this. I am here waiting for you guys! Gimme a call! So long story short: if you go with these guys, don't have confidence that they'll stand behind their work. I am more than happy to update this post if/when Blue Sky fixes the situation. read more

Just had a 3+ car garage built by Blue Sky. Their teams are the best. The demolition of the old 1 car garage went flawlessly. Next came the cement team. They prepared the gravel and then after the village approval, did the pour a couple of days later. They did a beautiful job. See addendum below about the concrete. In came the building team. In two days I had a monster garage, completely roofed, with windows and a door. Next up to work was the aluminum team. They did all the facia, gutters, and trim. Another day with lots accomplished. Then in comes the door man. He installed the 3 overhead doors (gotta have a party door yardside!). One man, all by himself does the door and opener installation. Last but not least, the electric team. They worked their tails off (they had to dig a trench and run a new line from the house). We added more electric than was provided in the contract (which is a decent amount, but we wanted more) and viola, DONE! There were no long delays between teams showing up at the house and getting things done. Everyone took great care to clean up any of their mess. Now that it's all done, we could not be happier. Every night when I pull in, I am amazed at my beautiful new garage. Thanks Blue Sky!!! Addendum: After one year, some of the concrete is starting to chip away. I have been told that concrete is never guaranteed. They asked me if I "sealed it"? Seeing as NO ONE we ever talked to ever mentioned that, we had not. Our two car garage has been there since we bought the home in 1975, it's hard to tell how long it had been there prior but it did require a "rehab" back then to keep the structure sound as it was already slowly decaying. After a rough winter in 2014 we decided it was time to explore getting a new garage built in its place. We very much wanted a quality garage and like most are on a budget. After hearing horror stories from neighbors who had purchased garages built by well known local "mega" garage builders we were not sure exactly where to turn. Then we found Blue Sky... A few years back a friend had bought a home and rehabbed it from top to bottom - including the garage. He went all custom - from top to bottom and it was amazing. Not something we could afford or have the space for, but I couldn't ignore the quality and inquired about the builder. Our first consultation with Blue Sky was informative, thorough and they were very transparent when I asked questions about costs and quality. I knew then it was time to break ground! Blue Sky came to our home on two occasions to discuss plans and options. They were unique in that there approach was focused on my everyday needs for a garage vs. just a quick structure and a garage door. It was detailed and gave me plenty of options when it came to costs. I also called and emailed many times with questions and always got a prompt response back. Blue Sky gave me a timeline and schedule which they meticulously stuck with - all the while I got calls and inquires from the project manager to inquire about any questions I had along the way. I don't usually write testimonials for purchases, but this particular experience really struck me and I do take pride in supporting local business. My Sister and I met with David Krecek to discuss getting a bid to get our garage fixed. We called the office and he met us the next day. He sat down and explained how the process would potentially go when dealing with the insurance company. He had a lot of information and was able to give us quite a bit of advice on how to proceed. We left feeling like he was the right person to do the job because of his vast experience and knowledge regarding this matter. Blue Sky Builders built our garage in 2004. Since that time we've had minor issues with the side door not fitting properly, however, the larger issues surfaced this year. Rotting wood all above our overhead garage door. Understanding that our garage was build 17 years ago, didn't expect them to come do the work for free, but they never came out to look at it like they said they would and after repeated attempts to have them come out and no further return calls - we hired someone else to repair the rotted wood at a cost of $1600. If you want your garage to be built to last longer than 15 years, go with someone else. Repair person we hired corrected the poor design & installation of the siding/trim so hopefully we won't have to deal with rotting wood again. read more

Do not waste your time with an estimate unless you have several hours to waste hearing the man that comes out, Dave, complain and rag on other companies the entire time. Very unprofessional. The man was at our house over an hour and still wasn't near done with giving us a quote when finally we had had it and had to ask him to leave. He is supposed to be out to build a complete garage then asks us if we have an electrician. My husband was at the table with him and told him no since we thought that's part of this job. He then proceeded to start in on how his electricians are out on leave and stooped mid way to make a rude comment to me while I was on the couch tending to my crying 9 month old baby and 3 year old. I was told that this is important and I need to listen up in an extremely rude manner. That's when my husband has had it and told him to leave. He wants to brag on how his company is amazing and no complaints and came off as a complete jerk. I'll definitely be getting the word out to stay clear. read more

He answered all of our questions and handled all permits with the village. He has done this for a while and it shows 100%. I reached out to several garage builders in the area and although all were quick to respond Dave at Blue Sky was exceptional. Dave knew all the permit/variance issues prior to meeting with me to set time expectations(which other builders did not know)He was honest with price points and was very knowledgeable when requesting out-of-the ordinary add-ons. I had a terrible experience with one of the owners in simply trying to get an honest, straightforward quote. I had reached agreement with them on a basic garage in November, and told them I was ready to sign a contract. They told me they couldn't pour a new pad in December, so we'd have to wait until Spring. This made sense to me. I asked if we could sign the contract and get the permit, so we were all set in the spring, but they told me that would be more expensive, as we'd have to resubmit for a permit. Then in January I tried contacting Blue Sky several times, and finally got a response in mid February. After another 2 weeks of back and forth, they told me the garage would now cost $2,000 more. I told them I was unhappy and felt they were dishonest, and got no response. The friend who recommended them is now having problems with the concrete they poured. Cannot recommend! read more

This company built my parents garage over 20 years ago. It was well built and haven't had any problems. This past winter the overhead garage door needed to be replaced. There wasn't anything wrong with the door itself, just the opener and the mechanism. After shopping around we decided to go with the original builders "Blue Sky". After calling for an appointment they told me that they would give my phone number to the service person and he would call to set up the appointment. After a week I had to call them back b/c he never called. Then after he finally called we set up the appointment and then the day of it he called to cancel and re-schedule. After all was set and done, the door and opener were installed. The door seems to be more flimsy than the original. Other than that it will due. And the installer told my mother that the rafter boards needed to be replaced, b/c they were buckling. But he never gave her a price or even contacted me to inform me of this. My mom later pointed out the problem. 5/29/14 I called "Blue Sky" I asked them to send out a guy to assess the work needed to replace the boards. He said he would give my number to the repair person. 6/6/2014 I called "Blue Sky" again, because no one had called me yet. As of today 7/24/14 I haven't received a call or even a follow-up call from them to see if the job was done or if I was satisfied with the service. Unfortunately, I feel like they just don't care or they don't want our business. The owner that I spoke to has always been pleasant but he needs to find other service workers because the ones he has are not very reliable and it will damage his reputation. read more

Blue Sky overall built us a garage that meets our needs. We did not choose anything fancy. The salesperson did not try to oversell us and thoroughly explained all aspects/choices with us. He went over timeline with us and explained the process (signing contract, obtaining permit, demo, concrete, build, door, electrical, and inspection) to us. We chose Blue-sky since they would handle everything start to finish. We were really happy that our permit was approved on-time with no issues and we were put in contact with Bruce our project manager, but unfortunately the great service ended there. We went over the time-line a few times with Bruce to ensure things were going as planned. Bruce however made the process of our garage build quite daunting. He was uncommunicative, did not return calls/texts, and was hostile. We called to tell him there was damage to our neighbors landscaping after the cement crew completed their work. He gave us an attitude and said we had unreal expectations of a demo project. I guess we thought damage to a neighbor's property would at the very least have been addressed by the project manager. We weren't given instructions on care for the cement after it was poured. When our project was at the very end of the window for completion, we asked why our next phase (electrical) had not been scheduled and we received no response from Bruce at all. We had to reach out to our salesperson who then had to work to get us on the schedule. Salesperson told us Bruce had an emergency, but no one contacted us to let us know that. Bruce defensively said we were not scheduled because they did not receive our payment, which was dropped in the mail one hour after we received invoice (they do not accept electronic payment). Some of our invoices were sent to us over a week after work was completed, not sure how that is then our fault. Then when we complained about all these issues with scheduling, landscaping damage (not near garage build), and non-communicative project manager we gave them the opportunity to rectify the situation. However, Bruce once again defensively argued that they were on schedule and the only set backs were our payments (which we mailed each one with an hour of receiving) and the weather. Our project was never affected by weather, if other projects were Bruce never once said that to us. After each phase, we asked him once again for an updated timeline and it always remained the same. We were told after each phase that we were still on schedule for completion end of June, however it was completed on July 17th. This caused us to have issues with other contracted work taking place at our home. Had Bruce been able to communicate any and all issues with us in a appropriate manner we would have understood. However this was not the case and we would not recommend Blue Sky to anyone. We could have spent less on our garage and used another company. read more

Similar to Mark Y's review, my experience started out well and but declined quickly. Blue Sky helped up front to get zoning approved, so in return i did not competitively bid them and gave them a $22,000+ contract to build my garage. From this point is when the trouble started. They were not organized and their salesman Rick and the field staff did not seem to communicate. The first day they were to show up and remove debris and dirt from my garage area ( i paid an extra $1,500 for this to removed); instead of removing the debris they simply pushed it into my yard and poured the concrete foundation and concrete slab. In their haste to pour the concrete they did not put the appropriate finish on the top of the slab (which i later had to pay additional cost to a 3rd party to correct). My garage is approx 9 months old and i have a crack in the concrete apron. I have sent the salesman Rick numerous text messages and pictures and the only thing i received back was a text that said "who is this, i do not recognize the number?". i told him who it was and never heard back from him again. Now they will be hearing from my attorney. My recommendation is to find a smaller company who values their customers and craftsmenship. Blue Sky is just to BIG to manage their work load, hence you get cracks in the concrete and no reply to warrantee issues. A friend of mine had similar issues and warned me, but i did not listen. They communicate well and are always on time. The employees that work for the company are all great people to work with. This has been the best experience I have had on any home project I have done.
