John is a super honest and knowledgeable person who always fixes my issues quickly and fairly. I had a garage door emergency and was frantically calling several places because it was a weekend and I wasn't sure that anyone would be able to come out. He was on his way but someone that I left a message for (and my address on the voicemail) beat him here. Ugh. John is so professional that he called my voicemail and said he would bow out when he saw a work truck in my driveway as not to make things uncomfortable for me. That person replaced the spring but then I had another issue with the actual opener a few months later and John was the person I called. They did a repair for me to keep it cost effective but it didn't work out as we'd hoped and it needed replacement 2 months later. John gave me a fair price on the replacement assembly that had a WiFi opener (awesome when you have kids that leave the garage door wide open when rushing out to go to school and I'm sitting helplessly at work. Not anymore!) He set us up with new openers, and he also changed the rail because when we bought the house it had the wrong size and the door didn't open all the way. Now that my garage door issues were over, or so I thought, now I was noticing my door was loud. He came out again today and fixed something that should have been caught by the company that replaced the spring, and then he didn't even charge me! John is a great guy and I would recommend him without hesitation. He will be my go-to for garage door repair. He's got a new customer for life. read more

I would highly recommend Barrett for any of your garage door needs. They are extremely knowledgeable, they took the time to check everything out, and their pricing is great. Also, they were able to come out on the same day which was really helpful. Excellent service overall. read more

We moved and the garage at our new home hadn't been maintained and squealed when it opened and closed. It sounded like it was going to snap and come crashing down. I set up an appointment for a tune up about 10 days out from moving in and everything went smooth come appointment day. Ken showed up, assessed the issue (mounting brackets were worn out and needed to be repaired). He also helped reset the codes and program new remotes and swapped out the wheels on the track. He greased the track as well and now it runs so smooth and quiet. Ken was great and I'd highly recommend this company. I'm always a skeptic of home maintenance because I always feel like I'm being taken advantage of but not in this case. read more

On Sunday night, our garage door at our home on a busy street in Elmhurst would come down halfway and the cables seemed off the track, we suspect it landed on a foreign object. We called first thing Monday morning and spoke to a pleasant gentleman (John) who promised someone can come in the afternoon and will call ahead of time so I don't spend all day just waiting. Ken then calls me an hour later in the morning to say he can come in half an hour. Even better! Ken came on time, looked at the problem, listened to my explanation of the problem then went right to work. About an hour later, it was working as before. Price quoted for service visit was reasonable and we appreciate the honest and straightforward service - didn't insist on unnecessary work or parts replacements but gave reasonable recommendations to consider to keep garage up and running. We highly recommend them! read more

Quick service that was thorough and explained very well. They put extra effort into the repair to ensure a happy customer.

Caused a power surge while pretending I'm an electrician. Thankfully, the only casualty was the garage door opener. As a do it myself kind of guy, I normally would attempt to replace on my own, however, I was in trouble with my better half and left it to the professionals. Searched reviews on several sites and settled on Barrett due to their stellar reputation and proximity. Called Monday morning, and they were at my door 3 hours later. Eddie had the old unit down and new one up in no time at all. It would have been an all day project (or more) for me. Eddie programmed all remotes and the keypad and explained the operation thoroughly. He even stopped the squeak in my door I had been trying to correct since I bought the house 3 years ago. Do yourself a favor and leave it to the professional team at Barrett. Bravo for a job well done. read more

Barrett is by far the BEST at what they do. They have always been there when I needed a new system or when my current system was in need of repair. They have done work for us at 3 different locations and my son has also used them and was impressed. The customer service we've received is always top notch. Calls are always answered promptly they have come out same day or the following day - on one occasion they arrived after regular hours for something that could have waited until the following day. They are extremely honest and will never try to upsell you to make a buck, complete opposite actually, while they're there, they will fix/cleanup issues at no additional cost. Extremely knowledgeable! Highly recommend! read more

I have been using Barrett garage doors for preventative maintenance for several years after being scammed by another company. I had an issue on a Saturday and needed my garage door working for a party the next day. John was gracious enough to come out and check it out on the way to a personal engagement he had since they don't work on Saturdays. In 45 minutes he was there and fixed the problem. Of course, I will continue to use them and highly recommend to others. read more

I had called another Yelp Reviewed Door company and got a quote for replacing the circuit board. After a week they said they couldn't find it and quoted me $475 plus additional to put a longer rail system in. Called the number that i found on the door opener and called. Presto...$375.00 later my garage door opens all the way which it has not since i bought in 1976. Real professionals and i would highly recommend them. James knows his stuff! read more

These guys are great! They returned my call fast, showed up 30 minutes later, and did a great job fixing and servicing my garage door at a fair price. I highly recommend. read more

I found Barrett on Groupon and saw high Yelp and Google reviews.  I was not disappointed is an understatement.  I called on a Friday morning and was able to get an appointment at noon the same day!  Eddie called to confirm on his way to my house.  He was very polite, respectful,  and thorough in his explanation of what he would do with the garage door maintenance.   He was done in about 30 minutes,  showed me what he'd done and had me open and close the door; which now sounded brand new.  They have my business and recommendation from here on out. read more

I first called another garage door company to come out and look at my garage because one of the springs broke. They quoted me saying I needed a new door and opener. After that company failed to come out two days in a row, I called Barrett Garage Doors. John came out and said all I needed was new springs and a couple of improvements on how the door was installed because the previous owner who installed the door did some things that didn't look correct. He also opened up the opener and examined the gears and said the opener did not need to be replaced or repaired. He did a very thorough examination and analysis of my entire garage door, which is something the other guy didn't do at all. John saw things that I never saw in the 4 years I've been in this house. He knows his stuff. He said he would have the work done the next morning and he was true to his word. I came home and the garage door opened and closed better than it ever did. In the past, it used to bounce up randomly and I would have to physically move the door down. Now I don't have any worries. The price was reasonable and fair. I couldn't praise Barrett Garage doors any higher. I will recommend them to anyone around. Good prices, reliable service, and just a great company to work with. Can't get any better in the garage door world as far as I'm concerned. Hire this company for your next garage repair/installation! read more

Friday night when my wife came home garage door would go down and pop back up. Called after hours left a message. John came Saturday morning to look at it and Ken came Saturday afternoon to fix it. read more

I used Barrett Garage Doors to get new garage doors at my home in Lombard. John was very helpful and quick to provide me with pricing on the various options I requested. The garage doors took several weeks to come in (which John made sure I knew ahead of time) and they had great communication throughout to let me know the status. Eddie arrived this week to install the doors and he was fabulous. Not only did he and his co-worker do a great job on the install, but Eddie was so, so excited about our new doors and how much an improvement these doors were over our old doors. He was genuinely giddy about it! I was so happy to find a local company to give our business to and highly recommend them! read more

I called Barrett while out of town with a broken spring. Wife was at home with a screaming baby and errands to run before family came to visit. Though 2pm and they were booked until the weekend, the tech came by after hours and replaced the spring, cleaned the hell out of the door and tracks, making our entire garage door assembly purr like a kitten. I'm sure this was reflected in the price but it's rare to find killer customer service like that these days. A "stand up" company like that deserves Yelpers business. read more

The garage doors, at our new house, were out of alignment. Barrett realigned the two garage doors, basically reinstalled them. They are old doors that probably need to be replaced, but they told me how to keep them working for quite a bit longer. I talked to the owner, who was very polite & helpful. The team that came out to the house was very professional. I will definitely be using them when it's time to buy new doors. read more

My garage door was a disaster. Cable broke and the door came off its track. Couldn't get the cars out...help!! Called Barrett Garage Doors. Service came within an hour or so. Eddie was excellent. He was professional and friendly and got the job done right away. I am so impressed. Prices are reasonable. You will not go wrong with this company. They saved the day for us. read more

I recently put a review of Barrett Garage Doors a few days ago that was negative. Since then i received a letter in the mail from the owner of the company. He said that the employee that was rude was disciplined and told me how small companies get their referrals. He was so kind to say that he would pay the invoice if i had the door fixed. We got together and agreed that he would send someone out to repair the door at his expense and 2 days later sure enough he kept his word. i have never had this kind of service before where the owner agrees to make it up to the customer for an employees customer service mistake. I think that Barrett Garage doors is a great customer service company which puts its customers first and that's the kind of supplier i like to deal with. I would call Barrett in the future in a heartbeat. They do professional work and they stand behind their work. They have done work on my door before and the work was exceptional. If you want very good top of the line service for your garage door, call Barrett for your garage door needs. I highly recommend them. read more

Don't bother call elsewhere, you will & can get the same quality they offer for 1/2 the price. I got the same door & same opener elsewhere for literally half of what they quoted me for. saved me $1400.00 thank you, i'm going on vacation with the extra money i saved! :) read more

I have had an older garage and door that has given me fits for years. I saw an Amazon Local coupon for a $250 garage door tune-up for $99. I decided it was worth a try. Ken was great. Did it all, rollers, hinges, rails, chain, you name it. Works like a dream! My garage door nightmare is over. Highly recommend. read more

This is good, old-fashioned service like what my parents used to get back in the old days. You know how you could call someone and get great service? Well, that is how John does business. In fact, John will even try to help you over the phone (if he can) if it is something that doesn't require a service call--that's the kind of businessman he is. John will make sure you get the service you need as soon as you need it--even early in the morning. I have shopped around and Barrett Garage Doors has outranked the competitors across the board. He is extremely reasonable and stands behind his work. I have recommended him to my friends and even elderly relatives. John treats his customers like he would treat his own family. That goes for every member of his staff, too. Trustworthy, reliable and quality workmanship. read more

I had a 15+ year old garage door / operator. The door got jammed in the track and was damaged beyond repair. A friend recommended Barrett Garage Doors. I spoke to John, the owner directly. He got somebody out the next day to evaluate the situation and make a recommendation. He designed to the application...didn't try to sell me a Mercedes when the Chevy would do. In fact, I have an old operator that has reach useful life, however, it still works well. They didn't push me to replace the unit...which saved me $450 near term. They came out a few days later to install the door. They took their time, did a professional job and cleaned up after themselves. Very happy with the result. read more

AWESOME!! They repositioned and properly installed a garage door opener the previous owner tried to put up that wasn't right and didn't work as it was free of charge when they installed our door. The door was special ordered to meet HOA requirements and their price was $100 cheaper than other companies' estimates. Now we have a great door with an automatic opener!! read more
