Where should I begin…read more I had heard about Kema Health Services because they had a small ad on the back our our church bulletin. (Mistake number one. This is the third business that I have used because of a religious affiliation. Shame on me....but heed my warning, these businesses seem even LESS ethical.) I wanted an appointment with them to discuss genetic testing to determine what meds would work best with my metabolism. I think they must be PART TIME, because no one ever gets back to you and they outsource their answering service to INDIA. India? For a small provider in Frederick, MD. You can't even pay an American to answer your phones? I was looking for an appt. with their main provider, Josyane Kengni. Instead, I was given a person named Sandrine, who is not even listed as a provider on their website. After playing phone tag, I finally got an appt. I show up, there was no receptionist, but there was a elderly couple in the teeny waiting room. They were early for their appt, but had been sitting there for half an hour. I asked if anyone had come out from the back rooms to greet them, and they said no. I waited 10 minutes and walked to the back, and knocked on some doors. Nothing. Finally, someone walked out carrying their lunch and chomping loudly and asked if she could help us. We said we had appointments and no one has come out. I finally get in to see Sandrine, and the first thing she does is ask me the EXACT QUESTIONS that I had spent the previous day filling out online for them (and received a confirmation that I had done so). I literally had to tell her ALL my medical history so she could type it in again. This took up half my appt. The other half was her talking about her kids. It was truly unbelievable. Towards the end of the appt with her, I knew I was not going to have any further dealings with Kema, OTHER than getting the genetic test results. Then I'd take my findings elsewhere. My insurance requires prior authorization of genetic testing, so I provided the information, and Sandrine assured me she would be back to me the following week with an appt for the test. Crickets. I called the number, and reached India, but was not comfortable giving my details over the phone to this man I could barely understand. So I emailed. And I emailed again. No response and it's been 5 weeks since my appt. Now I have to start all over with another provider. Giant waste of time on this unprofessional group. But you can be assured that they wasted no time submitting for payment to my insurance company. Steer clear.

I found Rachel from Life Change Therapy Now after switching jobs and having my health insurance…read moreprovider changed. I was sad to leave my old therapist, but happy about this wonderful life change. We left on good terms with the office. A coworker, with the same health insurance provider, suggested I give LCTN a call and so I did! Rachel is no longer a part of this office. I liked her, however, but I can't blame her for moving on with her life from this elementary, disorganized, and unempathetic office. At first, I was very clear about my needs. As a daughter of refugee parents and as a first generation immigrant, my problems were very specific to this. I made this very clear in my intake interview and while they did their best to hear me, I can tell they did not understand that growing up as a first generation immigrant is not the same as having issues with immigration. I emphasized this several times. If you browse their Meet The Team page, it is very apparent why they are not educated about the difference in the difference, no matter how hard I emphasized that immigration was my issue. There is not much diversity in this team to help the needs of POC or those who are children of immigrants. I understand it may be due to location of this office, this may be my fault but it is still good to note if you are of minority background to avoid this place. I messaged this office to notify them of my illness (flu) with over 24hr notice from my appointment date and they refused to refund me the no-show cancellation. They said this is due to the fact this was my second time having a no-show (the first was due to my therapist switching hours and my appointment got changed around). I was disappointed by the lack of communication, understanding, and empathy for my being sick. If fact, their appointment reminder came AFTER I had cancelled my appointment. Absolutely unprofessional. BOTH this incident and the incident on not understanding the difference between having immigration concerns verses growing up in a refugee household were both handled by the same person--Zoe. So maybe other staff could be more helpful and empathetic, but I have not had that experience. Their emails that are sent to your inbox are full of very amateur and unsettling clip-art-esque images that have their worded updates in it. I do strongly wish they would spend time working on their client care than to draw up an email that is just so ugly and unappealing to read. In addition, their online portal is absolutely abysmal. It is not user friendly. As the coworker who had recommended me this office also needed to leave due to being underwhelmed with her service, she was then sent a satisfaction survey to complete. I did not because I upfront told them I was unhappy with my service. Therefore, please take any testimonial on their website with several grains of salt.

Most are better saved for another day. But one, "Doctors are like plumbers, if one doesn't work out for you, you go to another," applies here. I used Lifespan Behavioral Health Services for more than seven years. I stayed with this practice because one thing was always clear: The patient came first. No more. Perhaps due to new ownership, money is paramount here now and patients, well they are just supposed to accept that or move on. Recently, I "missed" my first appointment. A telehealth appt., I mistakenly clicked on the wrong practitioner's link. Only 10-15 minutes later when I saw this, I fixed my mistake. But my practitioner (who was online) told me it was too late. I'd need to reschedule. Soon after I received a bill for more than $150 for the "missed" 15-minute appointment. (My first missed appointment in seven years!) I asked my practitioner about this (a nurse, not a psychologist) and she said I was late, and she had to move on to the next patient. No empathy, no second chances, the cash register came first. Moving on to another psychological practice isn't something you do lightly. You've bared your soul to people and getting someone else up to speed takes time. (As Richard Lewis wryly said about the necessary recap, "the crib alone takes six months.") But I'm doing it. Yes Pop, I'm choosing another plumber. Because to quote you again, "Ain't none of us getting out of this one alive," and I'd rather work with people who want to see me thrive; who care more about their patients than their bank accounts.
