I love Dr.Tan and her staff are excellent. Dr.Tan has a great friendly welcoming personality and has provided my daughter and myself with annual eye exams that were perfect. She's lucky to have such capable professional support staff particularly Cory who works at the front desk. He is super nice, very knowledgable and has a great fashion sense as well. He is extremely helpful and accommodating. I wish the glasses weren't so pricey. That's the only downer. Wish I could give 10 stars! Just got out of my first appointment with Dr. Tan and had a delightful experience from start to finish! The office staff is very friendly, kind and professional. Dr. Tan has fantastic bed side manner and was very friendly and knowledgeable. She answered all my questions (which were a lot!) thoroughly and she never acted like it was a bother. She explained optional extra procedures to me and while she communicated the importance, she was never pushy. She could tell I'm a bit talkative so she even told me a story that had me laughing. Furthermore, she double checked my new prescription for me because I was unsure on my some of answers, and she wanted me to be completely satisfied. (The last optometrist that I saw was rude and condescending when I told him that the several of slides looked the same to me.) So needless to say, Dr. Tan is my new permanent optometrist. I'm going to bring my children to see her, and I will be referring all my family and friends to her. :) read more

Also, the front of the office staff is amazing. They know me by name when I go in! Ok before I get slammed for my rating, hear me out. I give 5 stars for Dr. Tan. I have never had a more enjoyable and detail oriented exam before. Right from the start I was comfortable and relaxed. It's beyond obvious how passionate she is about what she does. She told me she has to try all the contacts herself before giving them to her patients, so she knows how they will feel. That's amazing to hear! She gave me some trial pairs for daily use contacts to try, that was so nice! She described everything about what is happening with my eyes and what she was doing at every step of the way. No other eye doctor has done that for me before. 5 stars to the front desk girl, she's extremely friendly and helpful. Also remembered my name after seeing me just once. It was a breeze getting an appointment, although my first visit I scheduled for 5pm but got a text saying it was for 4pm. I think there was some glitch with their system that day. Not a huge deal. Now where my 3 star rating comes from is my lenses. The first pair of lenses I ordered I got the basic thickness but got the blue coating on them. I didn't really enjoy how blue that was, not my thing, so I called to see what my options were on getting that fixed. It was suggested I wear the glasses for a few days to make sure everything else was fine since my insurance only covered one replacement of lenses. It was clear from the second I put on those glasses that something was wrong with them. They were incredibly thick, heavy and most importantly all objects I looked at looked distorted and went in and out of focus. I got a headache after wearing them for all of 15min. One side of them seemed to be not as focused as the other. So I went back to the office to explain everything, and they were more than happy to get me a replacement lenses. I told the front desk girl all that I experienced and she suggested investing in thinner lenses and that would help with the distortion. So I upgraded to that. I didn't get a prescription check at that time. Once my new lenses come back, I had a lot of the same issues. They were slightly thinner and lighter but everything was extremely distorted and wearing the glasses for all of 5 min gave me a splitting headache. I've been wearing glasses for about 20 years and never had this problem before. I scheduled a prescription check thinking this could be the problem. It was explained to me since I already got one replacement lenses I would probably have to pay for a new pair of the lenses. Dr. Tan told me that my prescription seemed to be just fine and she didn't know why I was having problems. She also said to try wearing them longer and get used to them. I agreed to try this but now it's been over a month and I can't wear the glasses for more than 5 minutes without have a headache. I'm now out $400 for just the lenses, that I can't wear. Basically it doesn't matter how friendly you are, $400 is a lot of money for a product that doesn't work for me. I was pretty upset about this, but what can I do? I already got my one replacement lenses. Overall the eye exam was great, my contacts worked out fine. I would suggest going here if you wear contacts and need an exam but I wouldn't suggest lenses from here. Maybe it's just the lab they order from? read more

My mom's eyes have been bothering her for quite some time and we have gone to two eye specialists in a hospital before but her problem still exists. Therefore, we decided to see a specialist outside the hospital. Dr. Tan was very friendly and listened to our problem before examining my mom's eyes. She looked in my mom's eyes and explained to us what might be causing the problem in detail. The doctors that we saw in the hospital never gave us such detailed explanations. She answered every question that we asked and explained it in a way that we would understand. She is very knowledgeable and very patient. She informed us of which eye drops to use for my mom's problem and showed my mom how to clean her eyes at home. After following Dr. Tan's advice, my mom's eyes are getting better. We are glad that we saw Dr. Tan. We now have a better understanding of what was happening to my mom's eyes. read more

Dr. Tan is as good as it gets! She is very personable, smart, and possibly the best eye doctor I've ever seen. She gave me lots of sample contacts (colors, daily lenses, and monthly lenses) to try. My visit wasn't rushed - she made sure I had perfectly clear vision before leaving her office! Thanks Dr. Tan! I would recommend her practice to anyone looking for an eye doctor in North County. OH - and some people might laugh at this - but I HATE that test they do in the beginning to check for eye pressure -- you know the one -- you're waiting waiting waiting PUFF that air PUFF shoots straight into your eye! She took the time to answer all my concerns with the condition I had and referred me to an excellent specialist for followup. I left a 5 star review in the past, and I'm here to do it again. In the past, Dr. Tan saw he for a retinal tear, which ended up in surgery, and other details that aren't relevant here. Suffice to say, a bad situation ended up very positive. I recently had a routine appointment and new glasses. As usual, Dr. Tan was wonderful; she always has the latest medical devices to better serve our visual health and make the appointment easier. I am difficult in particular to get a glaucoma test on; many techs have been unsuccessful in the past. With the newer equipment I can have it done easily. I chose my new glasses, and went on my way. I picked them up, and when I realized that they didn't have photochromic tint, I contacted them. I didn't think anything could be done, but they are switching out the lenses. for me. I would gladly return here for another visit since I had a very pleasant experience. Great place to have an eye exam. They have all the state of the art technology that you would want. Dr. Tan was very pleasant and easy to work with. The office staff was just as courteous and responsive to customer's needs. I wound up ordering my first pair of prescription sunglasses with progressive lenses. Super expensive but they came out looking really sharp and the prescription works well for me. Blue Mountain Optometry is awesome! The moment you walk in, you feel like you're going to get great care and customer service here. The storefront was spotless and gorgeous, and the receptionist was very nice and friendly. They have a huge selection of frames for every price range with all the bells and whistles, which you can browse during the (very short!) wait for your appointment. Moving on to the medical side of things, Dr. Tan was very experienced and professional while still being absolutely approachable and friendly. She obviously takes a personal interest in your eye health. I've been to some great eye doctors over the years at Scripps Green Hospital and Stanford Hospital, and Dr. Tan was more thorough and took more time to explain everything to me than any of my previous optometrists and ophthalmologists. The equipment at Blue Mountain actually looked more up-to-date, and Dr. Tan actually gave me more tests and explained the results thoroughly than my previous doctors had. She also seemed to be very on top of the latest developments in eye care (I mentioned some correlation my previous doctor told me about, and she was able to immediately reference what paper identified the link!). When the exam was over, Dr. Tan personally helped me select a frame for my glasses and gave me some great advice re: contacts, contact solutions, and other tidbits of info I had never really picked up over the years. I never felt pressured to buy anything, but I did absolutely feel like I would be getting the best quality in anything I did buy. All in all, I definitely felt like I was in great hands, and that Dr. Tan knew what she was about. I know this review is turning into a list of lauds, but I was really pleasantly surprised (blown away might be more accurate) by the whole experience. Went there to renew my prescription for contacts (monovision), as I didn't want to travel all the way from Cardiff to Carlsbad for LensCrafters, which had been my eye-care place for many years. Prices at Blue Mountain were very competitive (I actually paid less here), and the personal care was far better. Dr. Tan examined my eyes in great detail, spending more time.
